Seemingly disappointed that none of the other Pathfinders approached the rocks, a pair of impatient gnolls appear from behind the rocks. Rushing forward, each has a spear in hand.

The first to appear is greeted by one of Merida's arrows. Each then hurls a spear at Theron.

"Gah! More of them!?"

Ashtoret walks a little forward to get a better view of her foes and sends magic projectiles from her wand into one of the gnolls.

The combined firepower brought by the Pathfinders causes the last of the gnolls to drop.

OUT OF COMBAT

If you search the bodies of the three gnolls:
Each was wearing studded leather armor and carried another spear.

With the dust digger and gnolls defeated, the party has a safe location to rest before continuing to the ruins.

If you search the area around the oasis:
You find that the gnolls maintained a poorly hidden cache of stolen goods near their hiding spots. In addition to a silver cup worth 60 gp and a hodgepodge of coins, their ill-gotten gains include alchemical supplies from Thuvia that consist of an alchemy crafting kit, a vial of antitoxin, and two flacks of alchemist’s fire. There are also two flasks of liquid ice, a potion of blur, and a potion of haste, each labeled in common.

Here, a weathered, partially buried marker about 100 feet west of the oasis matches the description in Grandmaster Torch’s notes. During the hour before dusk, the setting sun’s light causes a weathered hieroglyph depicting an arch to glow. Even as the sun sets, the long shadow cast by the stone never shifts, always pointing to the northwest with exactly the same bearing.

I will assume the party rested for the night unless otherwise indicated.

Traveling in that direction for several hours leads the party to the ruins of Seeker’s Folly.

The remainder of the journey through the desert proceeds uneventfully, with only the rise and fall of the dunes to break the monotony. A low, uneven hill of granite appears on the horizon to the northwest, presenting the only shelter for miles around. Although the crag appears solid from a distance, on closer examination there is a wide fissure in the rock sealed by a heavily weathered stone wall fitted with a large iron door.

The ruins that Grandmaster Torch calls Seeker’s Folly appear to have sat virtually undisturbed for centuries. The khamsin storms have worn away the carvings that once decorated the outer wall, which serves as a barrier against the abrasive sand, leaving the courtyard relatively protected.

The wall stands 30 feet tall, and a 15-foot-tall set of iron doors keeps out the weather.

An iron gate, which seals the entrance, is heavy and partially buried by sand, yet it is unbarred and can be opened with sufficient effort.

Strength check (DC 18):
You are able to open the gate and enter an archway. The archway’s ceiling contains a recessed inscription in Ancient Orisiani that has avoided the worst of millennia of erosion.

A PC who succeeds at a DC 20 Linguistics check, may open the spoiler below:

The inscription is a message welcoming travelers and offering them safety from the winds.

If you read Ancient Osiriani, you may attempt a Linguistics or Perception check.

The stone wall is 30 feet high and worn smooth, however, the canyon wall is uneven.
Those wishing to climb the stone wall or the canyon wall (please indicated which), may attempt a Climb check.
