Heading up the steps, Corey encounters a closed door at the top leading into the interior of the stone archway.

Door now revealed on Map.

Theron tries to hold the line.

Merida's first arrow drops one of the undead (yellow), causing it to explode in a burst of decay!

Her second arrow pierces the carrion golem but is somewhat dulled by the creature's thick skin.

Nightkit's blade fails to connect with the undead.

Command Undead: As a standard action, you can use one of your uses of channel negative energy to enslave undead within 30 feet. Undead receive a Will save to negate the effect. The DC for this Will save is equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Charisma modifier. Undead that fail their saves fall under your control, obeying your commands to the best of their ability, as if under the effects of control undead. Intelligent undead receive a new saving throw each day to resist your command. You can control any number of undead, so long as their total Hit Dice do not exceed your cleric level. If an undead creature is under the control of another creature, you must make an opposed Charisma check whenever your orders conflict.

Theron lkashes out at the last unfriendly creature.

The last unfriendly is red. I am not certain what weapon Theron was using or if it had reach. If not, Theron would have to move to strike in melee.

Regardless, this fight is over.

With a single blow, Theron cuts down the last of the uncommanded undead. As he does so, the undead explodes in a burst of decay.
All creatures adjacent to the unsead are exposed to its plague as if struck by a slam attack and must make a DC 13 Fortitude save or contract zombie rot.

COMBAT OVER

Need Fort saves from Nightkit and Theron if he did not attack with a reach weapon.

The winds continue to gust about this small courtyard, filling the air
with fine grit. Yet, with no additional undead posing any immediate threat, the Pathfinders are free to explore further.

Additional portions of Map now revealed on Slides.

If you explore the overhead walkway (B2):
You find a small, enclosed guard post above the gate that offered protection from the elements. The wooden doors are loose on their hinges and fall with a loud crash if not opened with great care. A stone cabinet served as a weapons locker, while a tarnished bronze brazier dominates the center of the room.

If you search the weapons locker, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
A search of the weapons locker reveals five +1 seeking bolts.

If you explore the westmost door in the courtyard (B4):
You find that this modest brick building provided housing for a caravan’s beasts when the fortress was active. Only the stone has survived intact, with empty sockets for lanterns at even intervals. Ancient tools for leatherworking sit on a table to the south, next to an empty stone trough. Barren stalls line the north wall.

If you explore the northeastern door in the courtyard (B5):
You discover that this room served at times as a smithy and at other times as a storage facility over the course of the fortress’s occupation. The chimney that rises from the small forge in the southwest corner is clogged with grit from centuries of storms, and the smith’s tools lie nearby under a thick layer of dust. The south door is cracked in places, and scattered crates are all that remain of some sort of barricade. Most of the contents of this room are spoiled and worthless, though you manage to find two sealed vessels full of salt crystals, each labeled in Osirian.

If you are able to read Osirian, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:

One container is labeled as holding an application of silver weapon blanch and the other's label suggests that it contain one measure of ghost salt.
A PC may attempt a Knowledge (arcana or nature) check to know more about ghost salt.

If you try the closed, stone doors to the east in the courtyard (B6):
Despite their size, you find that these doors open easily.

Here, a profound quiet has settled over this timeworn hall. Elegant stone columns line the passage, and hieroglyphics and colorful art depict scenes from a distant age. A small wooden door stands at the east end of the hallway, while a larger door leads south. The sound of steady splashing water is audible through an open passageway to the north, and large stone doors lead outside. One of the pillars has collapsed, and a crushed human corpse lies pinned underneath. The distinctive shape of a wayfinder peers out from under the body’s hand.

The art on the walls is decorative, with fanciful depictions of a royal barge sailing on the River Sphinx.
PCs may attempt a Perception check and/or a Knowledge (history) check.

If you search the corpse, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
The corpse is holding a broken wayfinder. The inside is engraved with a scarab and an inscription that reads “Congratulations, Asha. —V.L.” Most of what remains of a backpack is crushed, but a steel canister containing a labelled oil of greater magic weapon along with what appears to possibly be a stone of alarm have survived.
Appropriate spells and/or checks to identify specific items may tell you more.

Knowledge (nobility) makes sense.

Considering the royal barge among the artwork, Ashtoret discerns that the wall art depicts the god-kings of Ancient Osirion each taking their turn captaining the barge, from Azghaad to the Song Pharaoh.
Any PC considering the artwork may attempt a Perception check.
Perception (DC 15):
You notice that each of the pharaohs bears three jewels on his or her head regalia: an emerald, topaz, and ruby.

The corpse is holding a broken wayfinder.

If one examines the wayfinder:

The inside of the wayfinder is engraved with a scarab and an inscription that reads “Congratulations, Asha. —V.L.” Most of what remains of a backpack is crushed, but a steel canister containing a labelled oil of greater magic weapon along with what appears to possibly be a stone of alarm have survived.
Appropriate spells and/or checks to identify specific items may tell you more.

Four sets of doors exit the entry hall where Ashtoret is examining the corpse. A pair of doors roughly due north, another door roughly due east, a pair of larger doors located roughly due south, and the large stone stones due west through which Ashtoret entered the room.

The bard recalls having seen, at least in passing, a reference to a female human ranger named Asha Sandwalker, who was a Pathfinder years ago and who matches the recognizable features of the body. However, he does not recall there every being any mention of her resignation nor her name being included on The Wall of Names at the Grand Lodge, which memorializes those lost while in service to the Society.

By my reading, areas B2 and B5 have not been explored; if a PC wishes to do so, they may open the spoilers in the prior post and post any outcomes accordingly.

"Magical ammunition. Niiice."

There was an official ruling years ago in PFS that any ammunition that you came across in an adventure can be replaced for ammunition that matches your weapon. So in this case, those crossbow bolts can actually be arrows, if any of us with a bow needs them.

Say the word when you guys are ready and I'll open the door...

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

As Theron opens the doorway from the south (room now revealed on Slides), the relaxing splash of water echoes throughout this tiled room. A large, pristine pool occupies much of the chamber, and a statue of a warrior-maiden serves as the centerpiece, endlessly pouring water from an ornate jar.

A large carving on the east wall depicts a frightening man who stares at the viewer, with half his body burnt and ruined and the other half young and healthy. A withered corpse lies in the northwest corner.

If you investigate the east wall with the large carving:

The carved man is depicted with half his body burnt and ruined and the other half young and healthy.
If you succeed at a DC 10 Knowledge (religion) check, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
You recognize that the man depicted on the large wall carving as the god of magic, Nethys. His split form shows the creative and destructive potential of magic.

In addition to the wall carving, you find that there is a series of cartouches on either side of the carved figure.

To see the cartouches, you may now Reveal this Slide.

Each hand-sized cartouche can be removed from the wall, and the stone panels can be rearranged easily.

If you can read Ancient Osiriani, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
The hieroglyphics on the cartouches proclaim the magical powers of a god.

Any PC wishing to attempt to translate the cartouches may attempt a DC 25 Linguistics or Knowledge (religion check). A PC who can read Ancient Osiriani gains a +10 competence bonus on this check, and they can attempt the check untrained.

Any PC may attempt a DC 20 Perception check; if successful, the PC may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
You can spot a seam in the wall indicating a hidden passage behind the carving, though there is no obvious latch or handle for opening the door.

If you investigate the withered corpse:

The body of a male elf lies huddled in the corner of the room. The wall next to body bears a multitude of scratches as if indicating the passage of time, and a chewed piece of leather next to him bears a nearly illegible note that curses the writer’s companions for leaving him to drown in a desert.
A PC who succeeds at a DC 15 Heal check may open the spoiler below:
Spoiler:
You can determine that the elf died of starvation.

If you investigate the fountain:
This large fountain is of the kind to used for for bathing, relaxation, and clothes washing by visitors. Most likely it was once filled regularly from the well in the courtyard (Area B3 on Map).

The pool is currently six feet deep, suggesting that it has recently been filled in some manner.

A PC may attempt a DC 18 Perception check; if successful, you may open the spoiler below:

Knowledge (arcana or nature) (DC 20)to know more about ghost salt:
Ghost salt is a gritty alchemical powder and a weapon blanch made from exotic minerals mixed with an infusion crafted from the ectoplasmic remains of destroyed incorporeal undead. When rubbed onto a weapon that is then placed over a hot flame for a full round, ghost salt melts and forms a temporary coating on the weapon. The blanching gives the weapon the ability to do full damage to incorporeal creatures, even if the weapon itself is nonmagical. An application of ghost salt remains effective until the weapon makes a successful attack. Each dose of weapon blanch can coat one weapon or up to 10 pieces of ammunition. Only one kind of weapon blanch can be on a weapon at one time

Corey detects multiple magical auras.

The bard detects a moderate aura coming from the fountain itself.

The aura from the sword is moderate universal (with a note of conjuration?).
If you succeed at a DC 23 Knowledge (arcana or religion) check, you may open the spoiler below:
Spoiler:
There is an ongoing magical link between the fountain and the elemental plane of water. The fountain refills itself from this infinite source and can provide thousands of gallons of pure water each day.

He detects a moderate aura coming from a sword held by the statue of a warrior-maiden.

Spellcraft (DC 19):
The aura from the sword is moderate conjuration.

A faint aura radiates from a circular object, similar in shape to compass, sitting at the bottom of the fountain's pool.

Spellcraft (DC 18):
The aura from the wand is evocation, which is consistent with a wayfinder.

Next to the object, he also catches a faint, strangely diffuse aura glowing from what appears to be a wand.

Spellcraft (DC 19):
The aura from the wand is conjuration.
If you succeed at a DC 20 Knowledge (arcana or religion) check, you may open the spoiler below:
Spoiler:
The diffuse aura from the wand suggests that its magic has been leaking out slowly, affecting the water and likely anything within it.

Corey identifies the strange creature as a water elemental, though one somewhat advanced in ability, making it fiercer and more powerful than its ordinary cousins.

In short, it is possible.

My understanding of the charm spell is that it makes the targeted creature regard the caster as a trusted ally. As written, the spell does not necessarily alter the creature's attitude toward your allies. I believe the community consensus is that it is up to GM interpretation, particularly with respect to the creature's views of your allies.

First, while under the circumstances, Kura would not attack the caster while charmed, she may choose to attack members of the party while she is charmed charmed. She doesn't consider the entire party her friends, just the caster.

Second, it may be worth remembering that Kura had a readied crossbow. However, she spent her turn reaching for and used a thunderstone. Under the circumstances, one might think that Kura has something else in mind beyond simply attacking/murdering the caster's friends.

Ok, cool.

I thought i have to make an opposed charisma check to get her to do something that would be harmful to her. Let me look at the spell...

Quote:
You can try to give the subject orders, but you must win an opposed Charisma check to convince it to do anything it wouldn't ordinarily do.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

As we await what task the PCs will choose next and how the current encounter will be resolved, let me take care of some housekeeping.

I do not anticipate that this table will complete before the end of Gameday XIII, which is November 17, 2024. However, I will need to report the table before then.

To do so, I need the following from each of you:

1) Make Sure Your Reporting Info is Correct:
I will reporting with RPGChronicles, the link is here. Please make sure the prefilled chronicle information is correct, including PC Name, PFS No., Faction, and Slow Track (if applicable).

Per below, if you want to be considered for a doorprize, make sure there is correct email information. You are free to provide any other missing info, but it is not necessary.

2) Provide/Confirm a Valid Email for Door Prizes/Boons:
Paizo has graciously offered up prize vouchers for Gameday. Winners will be randomly drawn from a pool of all players and GMs for reported games. These vouchers will need to be emailed, so players are encouraged to fill in their emails when signing up so that they can get their prizes when they win.

3) Roll for a PFS1 Boon:
A set of boons is available for winning PFS1 players. Each GM and Player of a PFS1 game has a 10% chance to win one of the lovely boons at random. Everyone at your table may roll a d20 and a roll of 1 or 20 wins. Winners will be asked to select the prize won (which I will provide in a dropdown field on the RPGChronicles report if there are winners. Winners must fill in their email addresses so the boon can be sent out to them.

I will get us started on the boon rolls:
Boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 17

I plan to report the game this weekend for Gameday as I have been instructed, although we still have more encounters to go.

Please note that you may not play this PC in another game until you receive the chronicle sheet, which I will not distribute until the table has completed. I anticipate that could be sometime in December as I will be traveling over the American Thanksgiving holiday. However, I also anticipate that it won't be an issue as I assume you are all planning to stick around for Part 2.

I'll be sticking around for parts 2 & 3.

Same.

I am dramatically reducing the number of games according to the current workload and will be able to participate more normally in those games that will remain - and this trilogy is exactly one of them.

Sorry I'll put up a post tonight. Busy Thanksgiving and just getting over a bad stomach virus.

Guys, I left for a retreat today. I will do a lot of meditation and a little more yoga there. I'll be there with absolutely no connection (we're giving away phones for the duration of the event). So I'm saying goodbye to you until January 13-14 (I'm returning to the world on the evening of January 12, but I'm not sure if I'll start playing games before checking my family and business status, hehe). Have a nice New Year, everyone!

I'm keeping an eye on this thread to watch for when the next game starts.

Enjoy your retreat, Ash!

Happy New Year! Assuming everyone is back, refreshed, and ready, I am looking to begin part 2 on January 14th.

For those making plans for their PCs, part 2 starts in Eto only hours after the conclusion of part 1.

Which means Nightkit is still probably 'drowning her sorrows'.
