Toki Sigurdson |

Oh, are we doing special crit rules? ^_^
Toki feels the surge of vitality, secure in the knowledge that Valkur smiles down on him!
Second Wind: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Back to full, with 12/12 hp.

Jaylen Greystone |

Jaylen gestures with a fist opened enough to blow through. With a deep breath and exhale frosted air blows out the opposite side of the fist. Witwulfs skin begins to freeze. unless he makes a con 13 save, he takes Frost Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 and disadvantage on the next weapon attack roll.

DM Paguroid |

@Toki: RE: Critical Hits: Oh yeah, I mentioned a little while back -- so, normally for crits, you roll the damage dice twice. What I do is roll the damage die once, and the other die is maxed. That way you always feel like your crit is doing something, even if you roll a 1.
@Jaylen: I think this is Frostbite? Please let me know the spell name when you cast -- I don't have Xanathar's, so I'm having to guess a bit.
CON 13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Jacka-Lope's magic slaps Witwulf across the face, and Toki scores an incredible strike to his side, but the rotting hero of old just shrieks: "I cast Sleep!" as he shrugs off Gideon's arrow and the effects of Jaylen's spell before striking, first Braith and then Toki on the backhand:
Witwulf vs Braith: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Witwulf vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Round 4
Jacka-Lope
Braith -6
Witwulf -28
Toki -10
Gideon
Jaylen -4
Everyone is up!

Toki Sigurdson |

Toki tries to hook Witwulf's 'spellbook' with his axe, yanking down and then swinging up to slash across the zombie's face!
handaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
But the brute yanks the axe from Toki's hand, sending it flying!

Braith Ablewillow |

Reeling from the hit, Braith spins around and...
Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
...manages a hit but to a well-protected spot on the zombie.
If he hits me next round, I will cast Shield as a BA, which is +2 to my AC.
HP: 4/10

![]() |

Gideon slides down to give him a better view of the target and looses another shot from his shortbow... hoping for better results.
Wow! I need to practice.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 Shortbow
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Arrow

Braith Ablewillow |

Isn't shield +4 to AC? Shield of faith is a bonus action that lasts a minute or something...
I use DndBeyond for my character, and it says +2. "A shimmering field appears and surrounds a creature of your choice within range, granting it a +2 bonus to AC for the duration." It lasts 10 minutes. Pretty sure the rules changed in the newest edition? But I'm rolling with what the site says.

I think Toki was just pointing out that the spell you are referring to is Shield of Faith. Shield is a Sorcerer / Wizard spell (+5 AC, Reaction), whereas Shield of Faith is a Cleric / Paladin spell (+2 AC, Bonus Action).

Toki Sigurdson |

Aye, so Braith could use her bonus action to cast it and it will last the duration, but cannot use it as a reaction, i.e. - if I get hit. ^_^

Braith Ablewillow |

OK ok Reaction vs Bonus Action, got it. Yeah I was definitely confusing the two. I would instead go ahead and cast that as a bonus action if that's an option; if not, no worries. Thanks for clarifying all!

DM Paguroid |

No worries! Thanks for clarifying -- so, that puts your AC at 19 for ten minutes, unless you break concentration.
Okay, I guess I'll bot Jaylen and just repeat his last round:
Frostbite: 1d6 ⇒ 4
W CON save, DC13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Only Braith manages to hit the ancient hero, and with only a glancing blow. Witwulf begins to chuckle in a creepy, desiccated sort of way, now swinging his hammer with a flourish!
Spellbook vs Braith: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Spellbook vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
In spite of her protective spell, the warhammer connect with her jaw, and she spins to the ground, unconscious. "YES! Go to sleep!"
Unfortunately, Witwulf spends too much time cheering and is unable to make very strong effort on his backswing, missing Toki.
Round 5
Jacka-Lope
Braith (unconscious)
Witwulf -31
Toki -10
Gideon
Jaylen -4

Jacka-Lope |

The bunny folk thinks are getting serious now as the bald lady goes down in a heap as the zombie hits her with his big hammer.
The bunny yells out, Hey! Homey don't play that! as he wiggles his nose and summons a beam of crackling, blue energy lances out toward a creature within range, forming a sustained arc of lightning between you and the target. Make a ranged spell attack against that creature. On a hit, the target takes 1d12 lightning damage, and on each of your turns for the duration, you can use your action to deal 1d12 lightning damage to the target automatically. The spell ends if you use your action to do anything else. The spell also ends if the target is ever outside the spell’s range or if it has total cover from you.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 witchbolt
1d12 ⇒ 10 lightening damage

Toki Sigurdson |

Toki curses, Valkur's nether beard!
The warrior spins and attempts to chop at the zombie's leg, hoping to make it unstable!
Handaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Jaylen Greystone |

Moving around the corpse of the zombie, Jalen positions opposite of Witwulf to pull Blaith away from the dangerous Northman. Grabbing her foot and arm to and pulling hard. attempting to drag Blaith a square or two away from combat before healing her. If that doesn’t count as an action, Cure Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

DM Paguroid |

I think I would call that an Action (esp if you don't want an AoO against yourself). On the other hand, if you want to heal Braith, she could then move herself out of combat

![]() |

Gideon readies another arrow and fires Witwulf.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Bow
1d6 ⇒ 6 Arrow
I'll give it one more try before I get angry and go stab this thing.
Gideon will use his move action to try and get the creatures attention and draw it away from his fallen friend.
"Hey Lunkhead. Come over here and play with someone your own size".

DM Paguroid |

Toki's downward swing is blocked by the twirling warhammer and Gideon's arrow deflects off the chainmail.
Jacka-Lope's lightning blast catches Witwulf in the side of the face...
CON DC15: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
but, even though the blast tears off a cheekbone, Witwulf croaks out another laugh: "I am invincible!"
W v Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
W v Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
That being said, he also cannot manage to land a hit on Toki.
Round 6
Jacka-Lope
Braith (unconscious)
Witwulf -36
Toki -10
Gideon
Jaylen -4
Everyone is up! Jaylen, unless you say different, I'll take that Cure Wounds roll for this round, which will bring Braith to 9 hp (conscious but prone) for her turn

Braith Ablewillow |

HP: 9/10
Mace att: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Suddenly feeling right as rain, Braith pops up with her mace still in hand, taking a wild swing as she does. Missing, she steadies her stance and recovers.

DM Paguroid |

@Jacka-Lope: That's an Undead Fortitude save, not against the Witchbolt (which is a crazy powerful spell for 1st level!).
Speaking of:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Lightning continues to arc from Jacka-Lope to the undead warrior, but if anything, it just seems to be animating him!
Still looking for actions from Gideon and Jaylen

![]() |

Gideon tired of his bow's inaccuracy drops it and moves to flank the Zombie drawing his rapier as he goes.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Rapier
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Rapier (Advantage - Sneak Attack).
NOTE: I should have been attacking with advantage since the enemy was engaged earlier. Too rusty on 5e :-)
1d8 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (7) + (2) + 3 = 12 Piercing Point "Total of 19 points piercing damage.
1d8 ⇒ 7 Critical Damage
"Your time is numbered bag-o-bones. You shall meet Trinity... Needle of Blood".

DM Paguroid |

lol no worries! But yeah, a crit negates the undead fortitude roll
Gideon moves behind Witwulf, stabbing him in the back with his rapier, severing the ancient warrior's spine. Witwulf collapses in a heap.
End of combat

DM Paguroid |

Gulli and Yrsa, who have been sort of clinging to one another once they used up their magic, approach cautiously:
Yrsa: "You and the cleric seem the worst off -- are you okay?"
Gulli: "What was that thing anyway? It just wouldn't die!"

Toki Sigurdson |

Toki laughs it off, I'll be fine, just give me a moment to catch my breath! Braith? How about you? If we have the time, I will burn my HD.
HD: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Back to full, if we are able to take the rest!

Braith Ablewillow |

Braith examines herself, rather surprised she seems more or less okay, and then turns her attention to everyone else. Anyone really down still?
What are you even doing here? an exasperated cleric sharply asks the children. You could have been killed!
Shaking her head, she looks around for the spellbook.

DM Paguroid |

Gulli and Yrsa reach out for Jacka-Lope's extended hands, but they only spin a couple of steps around before stopping. Y: "Maybe now's not the best time? Sorry..."
Gulli looks sheepish at Braith's harsh words: "We... we were looking for you. We need your help -- it's just not safe for us in Blodvahrer."
Yrsa: "And... maybe we could help? Like we did against these things? At least, for now."
G: "Maybe you could take us to our parents. They're in Olafstaad. Y'know, on your ship? Please?"
The regular zombies don't have anything of value. Witwulf is wearing salvageable chainmail and has a small pouch of gems (100gp value). Braith and Jaylen lay hands on the iron warhammer 'Spellbook' at roughly the same time.

Braith Ablewillow |

Unless there's some sort of magic effect from grabbing the warhammer, Braith will just nod to Jaylen to take it and the other stuff.
Turning to the children, she asks the obvious question of why they are not safe here. Mostly, she's looking to make sure they understand what they're asking. And she will insist that they go back to their guardian's to ensure that such travel is okay. Another tasty pastry would be nice, too. Braith looks to the others to see if they are on board with this? After all, we've completed the first "mission" she would point out.

![]() |

Gideon pockets the gems. "There's a few baubles in here. I'll keep them safe for us if it pleased you. You can always trust a Dawnbringer".
He then turns to Gulli and Yrsa.
"First of all why is it not safe for you here? Is this due to the bullies? Secondly what would your relatives say if we were to just whisk you off somewhere"?

Toki Sigurdson |

Toki just laughs, Perhaps, we can check in with their aunt? We do have a quest to finish first, but they might be safe with the ship until we can finish at Farheight Peaks? We don't know where we can find the goblin and the last alien thingie...

DM Paguroid |

The twins look uncomfortable, Gulli shifting his feet and Yrsa twisting her hands, as they mumble:
Y: "You know -- be... because of the magic stuff."
G: "You saw what we can do, even... even if..."
Y: "Even if we don't really know how it happens."
G: "Yeah... And, that stuff with Bjorn at the tavern? It's been like that for a while. And now..."
Y: "... after what I did... And the adults saw it too? Oh Earthmother..."
G: "Things are going to get worse. Again. This is why our parents had to leave."
Y: "Auntie Gudrun won't mind -- she thinks da should have fetched us by now anyway!"
G: "Yeah, she just got grumpy with you because she didn't know what you were up to. She'll be thrilled if the plan is to take us to Olafstaad!"
fyi, Olafstaad is just around the peninsula to the south. The two prophecies that you know about (Daughter of the Mountain and Eye of the Goblin) are back on the other side of Alaron, so it would be a short detour, but faster to drop them off first.

DM Paguroid |

er... no, sorry. I was just quoting the first couple of words from the relevant stanzas in the prophecy you were given. If you look back to the start of the adventure, Captain Poppie gave you some clues. The Daughter of the Mountain part will take you to Highrock, and the Eye of the Goblin part will take you to Lehigh. If you look at the map, these are both fairly close to Caer Caldyrr, where you started.

Braith Ablewillow |

Braith digs around in her pack for her copy of the prophecies. "Two-fold child" eh? she asks no one, looking pointedly at the twins. Looking at the others, Yes, reuniting these two with their parents does sound like a good idea. Are we wrapped up here?
Low charisma reminder!

DM Paguroid |

Okay -- so, sounds like you are taking a short rest here, among the graves, and then are heading back to town with the twins?

![]() |

"I guess we are destined to travel together for a short while it seems. We are headed that way anyhow, so might as well earn some good fortune while at it. Can you have all your things ready to travel by tomorrow morning"?
Sounds like a plan.
