I think it only matters with special materials like cold iron, silver, adamantine, etc.

Does the Grade of the special material determine what strength of Runes may be etched onto it?
GM Zoomba |
Yes: low-grade material can hold runes of 8th level or lower. Standard-grade materials are needed to hold runes of up to level 15
Teja Khellekdottir |
Guess I'll stick to low grade.
Question: Can I use a higher level spell slot to cast comprehend languages as a 3rd level spell and thus speak Jikstan, or would I need to have it as a 3rd level spell, or signature spell with it?

As a bard you need to either have learned it as your choice for a 3rd level spell or have it as a signature spell. Can multiclass casters even get signature spells?
rainzax |
Just to confirm: the above rolls are Jakoby trying to use Nature to Influence Star as part of their second ‘round’s worth of actions?
Confirm.
I realize it's a risky move, and accept the scenario's outcome.

I have picked up the Ventriloquists Ring, but I don't think I heard an answer about purchasing the scroll of Honeyed Words.
We are out in the sticks, so I'll understand if the answer is no.

Basic bardic (or any for that matter) spellcasting gives you a signature spell.

In that case you can choose comp languages for your signature spell if you like. Personally I'd prefer to take one that is overall more useful like soothe though. A 30 gp scroll of comprehend languages does the same thing and being able to speak a language isn't something you're going to be able to use every adventure.
If you plan to take the next level of spellcasting then invisibility as a signature spell would be fantastic as a rogue.
edit-Looks like you can't take expert spellcasting until level 12 and that gets you a second signature spell anyway. Something to think about for the far future though. I doubt there will be too many scenarios at levels 12+ if any.

Apologies: given you brought it up at the same time, I'm willing to say you could have purchased one in Absalom before departing
Teja Khellekdottir |
I've already taken soothe... for that exact reason. I'm still coming to grips with spellcasting in 2ed. In some ways simpler that 1st, and in others more complex.

Happy Thanksgiving (USA) or Thursday (International) folks,
One month heads up: I will be traveling December 20th to 27th, so my posting may be spotty during that time. If I am GMing for you, expect more minimal than usual posts (perhaps a pause if there is consensus), if I am a Player I will try and make sure my characters have sufficient Botting instructions and will try and check in every two days or so (perhaps more), but may need assistance with Maps and other technicals.
Cheers!

a) Sorry - slightly longer pause post-Turkey Day than expected! but got to see and enjoy some very different character attitudes towards messaging :)
b) Whoever decided 9 years into her presence that Aslynn suddenly rhymes all the time like Gruntilda now...well it makes it a bit slower to type those posts :p
Teja Khellekdottir |
Or ten even. She was a mover and shaker back in season 5...

I recently played one of the Dark archive adventures on these boards with my ranger. I got cursed to only speak in poetry for the adventure. It was challenging. Very fun, but challenging all the same. I tried several types of poetry including one that didn't rhyme before finally settling on simple aabb or abab rhyme schemes.

Apologies. My wife was admitted to the hospital today and won't be released until at least Monday. I may be a little slow to post but will try to keep up.
GM Zoomba |
'Apology' not needed; while keep us in the loop is appreciated, never worry about engagement in a simple game being lower on the priority wheel than actual life and loved ones.
I too hope everything turns out well.
Teja Khellekdottir |
Likewise. I'm real happy to hit pause while you look after her.
Drak Cicero |
No need to pause. She isn't in immediate danger. She is chronically ill and we have urgent issues like this several times a year. She needs a procedure that will hopefully be scheduled today or tomorrow. We spend a lot of time waiting, and there isn't that much for me to do other than wait with her. I may be posting from a tablet, which is a little awkward compared to a laptop or desktop, and I will probably be just a little slower to post.
GM Zoomba |
Oh my: we’re already at initiatives and I haven’t given out any happy Hero Points yet. That won’t do.
Let’s grant one to Astrid for her agressively excited attitude towards smacking the hag (and pre-naming some special weapons just for the occasion) and another to Jakoby for her their insights into Allie’s and friendship (and in case Ro eats one by mistake)
Fortiva |
Hmmm... we went straight into initiative, but her showing up with allies isn't exactly unsurprising.
I'm tempted to delay, and give them the chance to fire the first shot.

I use it to "hook" my character's alias into the thread so I can click on it and remember what they can do. Then I make the post in the edit window. Copy/Paste and Submit. Sometimes spelling check if I have time.
Lazy posting style gone wonky.
=)

I have pickpocket, which allows me to get around that, albeit at a penalty.
Though given the results of the RK, I don't know that it's necessary.
rainzax |
Ulfen women are hard to tell apart.
Jakoby gives a whistle and Ro gives Fortiva some support pecking at and tearing a piece off of the dream. But Aslynn easily dodges the swung katana, cackling "Such fancy tricks but you miss with your sticks. You should be sick" as she swipes right back with a claw that drains some of Jockoby's energy as it slashes into her.
[dice=Strike]1d20+22 for [dice=Void]4d8+2
Astrid, can you give me a DC 28 Fort save?
You wrote Astrid, but put Jakoby in the tracker - Going to roll my Fort save vs Aslynn!
Fortiva |
Ok, is there a trick with those mechanical birds?
Can we contact the scholars to open the portal back up?
Parsing the complex plan now in light of this new wrinkle!
=)
Yeah, I'm a bit at a loss. Zarta is in charge of the portal, and closed it from her side (unless the RK gave us totally incorrect info, but it makes sense).
I don't know what the scholars can do, or if we really need to get the chalice back and reopen it - but in doing so we would have to somehow con Aislynn into thinking we were going to escape through it and that it would benefit her to jump thru first.
Soo ... yeah.
GM Zoomba |
there is indeed quite a lot of unknowns in play for you all at the moment - and in the heat of combat.
A Seek action could perhaps also help reveal something more...
Fortiva |
Nope. Just trying to grind through the dreams atm.
Drak Cicero |
I have a suspicion. Doing Knowledge Checks on the Portal. My current theory is that we might have been transported along with Aslynn, or something similar, and not be where we started.
Fortiva |
That makes a little more sense - she was here and went in. She's in there duking it out with Zarta and will reappear in X rounds, hopefully after we've dealt with her friends.
rainzax |
Or!!!
She had spies listen in on our Plan, never actually came, sent her Dupe in her stead, then forked around to go straight for Zarta while sleeping, sidestepping her lain traps, and stands ready to jump through from the "wrong" side to deal with us, kill us, grab the draught, and escape through the "front" side!
Okay, probably what you said... maybe...
Either way, we fell for the oldest trick in the book!
Teja Khellekdottir |
Bah, I noticed my level 8 skill feat was Scholastic identification which, actually I'm not able to take as it requires the archeologist dedication.
I'll swap that out for ward medic, but figure I probably can't use it in this game.

In 'live' game tonight, so next post after/tomorrow AM.
And for Astrid's very fair question about 'why not just use the Draught again ASAP to get into Zarta's head: the Draught cannot be used to link to an individual's dreamscape multiple times within the same rest. Until Zarta awakens from her current slumber, it will not open a doorway into a dream it has already breached. And you get a Marvel No-Prizetm :p
GM Zoomba |
I addition to the IC thread post, from you're research and preparations you all are entering the dreamscape with DREAM POINTS! Specifically you as a party are entering the dream with 13 Dream Points - how lucky!
A Handout has been added to the Slides to describe the various ways you can spend these points. Again, the points are collectively held by the party (not 13 each person) but can be used at any time by any of you.

"Oh, and I also found this: perhaps it will help you. I suspect should you succeed and all re-awake then we may need to confront Aslynn quickly."
Was there something that went along with the "this?"
Or were they referring to the info?

I forgot to check, did we assign mentor boons at the start of this, given a number of us are low tier and we are playing high?
rainzax |

Unfortunately, You can only mentor the lowest level for a scenario's tier - in this case 7th level character. I think we are all 8th, 9th, or 10th.
Imho, it should be "You may mentor anyone character two levels lower or more than you" but oh well!

Apologies: Waterfall gave you a set of boots of bounding
And yeah - mentor boons would only apply to level 7’s playing up here
