A quiet (almost to the point of obsequiousness) male halfling wearing clothes of muted colors over leather armor walks silently down the gangplank of the ship that carried the party to Sedeq (at least, I'm presuming that we took ship from Absalom). His habitual reserve cracks for just a moment as he takes in the sights, sounds, and smells of the port, so similar to and yet so different from Absalom. A rapier and dagger hang from his belt, and an unstrung shortbow is strapped over one shoulder. "I believe we should find the abandoned lodge first."

A small, somewhat distracted looking, gnome wanders aboard the ship. They look around, as if surprised to find themselves.... here.

"But will it be abandoned if we find it?" they ask, curious.

During the trip you have likely managed to wangle out some information from the gnome, who appears to be called Slipp. There is a faint odor of burned wood that seems to cling to them. That and an aura of menace. Though quite why such a seemingly oblivious gnome would send the shivers down anyone's spine is a surprising question in its own right.

As you travel to Sedeq, you think about what you know about genie binding.

Nic Blackwillow, Junior Peppers, and Hui Kong remember:

Genies are particularly prized by the nobility of Sedeq. Wish-granting genies, from bottled djinn to amber-encased shaitans, command an exorbitant price in Qadira’s markets. Binding these incredibly powerful creatures is a sign of great power in Qadira.

Hui Kong also recalls:

Deena al-Parishat, Shahiyan of Qadira, is supposedly working to end the heinous practice of genie binding, among other injustices.

Hui Kong appears to be a Tian-Shu humanon first glance, albeit one with uncharacteristically white shoulder-length hair. Upon a closer look, you realises that he is an aasimar. Although white hair is unsurprising on a middle-aged man, it is a tad too white to be almost glimmering. And of course, no human would have eyes of silver pupils. If not for all that, Hui Kong would look rather nondescript, if rather well-built. Under his dust-covered long cloak and robes appears to be a breastplate, but other than a long and stout walking stick and a dagger by his belt, he doesn't seem particularly well-armed.

"And hope the lost Pathfinders are there somewhere, hopefully not embroiled with the genie binders. Genies are particularly prized by the nobility of Sedeq. Wish-granting genies, from bottled djinn to amber-encased shaitans, command an exorbitant price in Qadira’s markets. Binding these incredibly powerful creatures is a sign of great power in Qadira. If they had crossed the path of the binders, rescue might prove difficult."

He pauses here, pondering, before he adds, "The inn keeper where I was lodging heard I was heading this way, and those me about Deena al-Parishat, Shahiyan of Qadira. They are supposedly working to end the heinous practice of genie binding, among other injustices. Might be an ally we could reach out to."

A confident Elf hustles down the gangplank as it docks in Qadira "Yes, let's not waste any more time on board, we've some sights to see!" As you've all learned during the voyage, Junior Peppers, or JR for short, doesn't like to waste time. He enjoys all manner of distractions, especially fine clothes and food. Solving a good puzzle or planning a mission really get his blood flowing. Padded armor and a satchel filled with throwing weapons removes the mystery of his role in a fight.

He nods in agreement with Hui "I've heard some of the same. We'll need to track them down, and figure out just where the Lodge is. Should we stop off at an inn to take a quick bath get a bite of fresh food? We could use the opportunity to gather some information."

As a mastermind rogue JR has all the skills trained, and is always eager to use them. He's also multi-classed into Investigator, but only have the Pursue a Lead activity and Clue In reaction so far. This is my first investigator so I'm a bit novice at the mechanics. At this point I'll be investigating the Lodge. Feel free to correct me if I've got something wrong.

You arrive in Sedeq and disembark from the ship. It is fairly easy to find your way to the location of the Pathfinder Lodge.

The imposing lodge stands, quiet and forgotten, at the end of a narrow road. The gardens surrounding it are choked by weeds, and the impressive fountains have long dried up. A cobblestone path leading to the entrance is barely visible through tall grass growing in the cracks in the path.

A massive brass door stands partially open, its hinges unable to hold the weight of the metal.

As you look around the outside of the Lodge you can see through the dust-caked windows that the rooms are filled with formerly elegant furniture, now decaying. A thick, undisturbed layer of dust covers everything, giving the rooms a muted appearance.

Luz definitely gets the vibe that something is going on here.

Since Luz's ability triggers on "When you enter a new location" and Nic seems to be looking for tracks inside, does this mean the party is entering the lodge?

As you walk into the first room, you hear a voice

“Do not enter as uninvited guests, lest I must assume you are thieves or scoundrels.”

Strong winds coalesce in the form of an elegantly dressed djinni wearing multicolored silks. Their azure skin is draped with jewelry of gold and bright lapis lazuli that jingles briefly as the winds dissipate. Along the djinni’s arms, the thin gold jewelry is elegant, but its purpose is clear: these are chains of gold, but chains, nonetheless.

“I am Safa, and I bring you a chance to save those who came before you and reclaim your lodge.” Safa extends their hand to create a translucent orb. Six figures sleeping on comfortable pillows are visible within.

“He who has bound me demands you complete three tasks in exchange for your friends. Fail, and your friends shall share my fate, becoming bound to the one who commands me,” they say, joylessly, before dismissing the orb.

“First, he wishes you to bring ruin to his rival: Azam ibn Bashemi, a historian seeking patronage from the illustrious Avisha al-Isman of the Satrapian Guard. Sabotage his feast in the nearby parks, and replace his gift for Avisha with this trinket, and his humiliation is assured—but try not to draw attention to yourselves.” The djinni reveals a small toy soldier.

“Second, he demands you acquire a brass stopper, a silver chain, and a cold iron container from the Overmarket. He asked me to ensure you acquire these objects, so acquire them you must.” They pause with a cunning smile. “What you do with them once you acquire them is not my concern, but I urge you to seek Raha Shul so that the purpose of these objects may become clear and you can make the right choice.”

Safa creates a small glass orb filled with moving smoke resembling a brewing storm. “This valuable bauble may help you in your trades, but a kind heart or a sharp wit may help you more.

“Lastly, he demands that you punish the hobgoblins of the Iron Ring for defying his will. Slay Tadrun, the captain of the Swift Huntress.” Safa pauses, and lowers their voice to a whisper, which somehow is as clear in the mind as their normal voice is in the air. “There are those on board the ship I hope you can free from imprisonment. Find Zoha, an undine walking in Sarenrae’s light, and ask for his help to board the ship, which is undergoing repairs. Free the ship’s captives, and prove that the Pathfinder Society has sympathy for those sharing my fate. Then—once they are free—burn the ship.”

Safa speaks once more in their normal voice. “It is just after sunrise now. You have until sundown to complete these tasks in whatever order you choose. Then return to the lodge. I am sure you have questions, and I shall try to answer.” The djinni whispers once more, “After all, I am on your side.”

Junior realizes:

If you listen carefully to Safa words she is not a willing participant in this exercise and is giving you hints on ways to meet the letter of the taskings but violate the spirit of them. For example she tells you "What you do with them once you acquire them is not my concern, but I urge you to seek Raha Shul so that the purpose of these objects may become clear and you can make the right choice." You might assume you have to acquire the items and return them to Safa. Safa is telling you the only task is to acquire the items and you should ask Raha Shul what the items do before you decide what to do with them once they are acquired. There is a similar hint in the task to slay Tadrun, the captain of the Swift Huntress. He apparently has a number of prisoners on his ship and Zoha, an undine walking in Sarenrae’s light can help you free the good folks.

Your friends were entrapped as soon as they set foot here, by the orders of my master. His words were direct and not subject to interpretation, save I saw to their comfort as best I could. You recall seeing "Six figures sleeping on comfortable pillows"

I can't do the recall knowledge right now, so will post again in a few hours.

Safa responds to Hui Kong
The time seems like an eternity but has not been nearly so long in reality. You can do nothing to free me now, save give me the joy of seeing my master's face when he realizes the actual results of his tasks. Fear not, there are other efforts in areas you will not see.

The round plaza of the Overmarket is crowded but well kept. Long, curved stalls surround an imposing fountain in the middle of the market. Be glad you came to the fabulous Raha and not some charlatan from the streets. Raha’s expertise alone can reveal that these items are not valuable by themselves but can be used together to create a prison for genies. Such a bottle allows even the untrained to trap a genie, but making the binding permanent requires expending considerable additional resources—and no small amount of willpower— to create a powerful genie seal. Without it, the bottle is just a snare for unaware genies, who tend to seek quick vengeance against the would-be prankster who tricked them. Raha grins proudly as she expounds on the subject, obviously pleased with herself.

On the way to the market Junior shares his observations of Jasa to the group:

"If you listen carefully to Safa words she is not a willing participant in this exercise and is giving you hints on ways to meet the letter of the taskings but violate the spirit of them. He apparently has a number of prisoners on his ship and Zoha, an undine walking in Sarenrae’s light can help you free the good folks."

Surprised at the little guide, but also a bit relieved, Junior follows their lead to Raha's shop and listens to the woman's knowledge "Very interesting indeed! Do you happen to sell any of those items?" He inquires.

Hui Kong takes a glance at the slip of paper.

"Possibly the Glittering Prisms? The items are all metalware. I mean, we might find them also at First World Metalworks, but I doubt the fey would carry stock of cold iron."

Raha chimes in Alas, I do not carry any of these items myself. As for finding them, I saw an unusual carafe in Ary’s stall, which is not far from here. And Jalal the bookseller wears a fine chain, Perhaps you can speak with him.

And of course if you acquire the items and bring them back to me, I can provide you compensation in the form of 2 lesser healing potions and 2 moderate alchemist’s fires.

"Well, that would seem to be a good solution. We acquire them, and then dispose of them again." notes Slipp.

They offer the helpful Raha a smile. "Thanks so much!"

Directing their attention to Melika "Can you take us to Jalal the bookseller?"
