Okay to answer the question is a Shield considered Armor, I say yes as it clearly states that is if you look at the guidelines, especially under the Figther
Armor: All armor and shields
So armor and shields are both considered to be Armor to which a Fighter can choose any type of Armor which shields are and get a +1 AC from that Armor. Although armor is usually all facing, while a shield is front facing and one side (left if you are right-handed and right if you are left-handed -- default is left)
As for Hit Points -- no the guidelines specifically state you get one roll at first level which is what all the other players have done. Well except the Dwarf because they get to roll hit points with Advantage as part of their Ancestry.

Cool. My Advance armour feature is +1 AC when using shields.
As to HP’s, I rolled them earlier (4) but wanted to double check.

Okay well we lost a player to RL and so I am posting to see if anyone might be interested in joining in.
I plan to tweak the game to allow for a more heroic style game as not many folks are into the less forgiving old school style of play.
I am also asking the players for input on what they would like to see going forward and what they might not like to see as well what they feel is fun over all and whatever other input they would like to provide.
Veterans and newbies and anything in between are all welcome, tests no qualifications other than a willingness to role play and be part of the fun.

First if you are at all familiar with 1st-Edition DnD then you will be very familiar with Shadowdark -- however if you are familiar with DnD at all then you have a solid grounding in Shadowdark and simply have to learn the specifics to this version of the game. Basically it is much simplier than the later version of DnD but DnD none-the-less.
Next the current party, assuming it does not change, consists of a Wizard-1 and a Fighter-1.
Now depending on what happens I might bump the group to Level 2 or 3 depending on the response of the current players (and new players expressing interest are considered current players) to what they want to see going forward. My purpose is to make it fun for all the players so pay attention to the feed back I get from others as well as providing feedback of your own.
Keep in mind the more feedback I can get from the players the better I can make the game.
Now going forward, depending on the size of group, I can augment the group with NPC Fighters sort-of hierlings and maybe a single Cleric focussed on healing but the Wizards and Rogues will be limited to PCs
That being said the ideal minimal crew would consist of a Wizard and Rogue with the 3rd perhaps being a full Cleric. Still I am not requiring anyone to play anything they would not have fun playing if someone wants to play a Fighter (perhaps the leader of the NPC fighters) I will go with that. Just keep in mind this particular game is steeped in Traps, Magic, and Combat generally in equal messures.
Just ask the original crew what happened in their first significant encounter or simply read up on it and you will see what I am talking about. Those creatures were basically push overs for the original crew but they made several mistakes that gave the advantage to the opponent and paid a hefty price for those mistakes.
