Character Creation Update

Oh dang! Starting 1st level. I can’t believe I made that mistake.

LOL. When I saw the original "4th Level" for char creation, I was like, "Wow. This is really going to be a homebrew adventure..."

Dotting for interest. :D

I'd be interested, as I have yet to play PF2 at all, either. Yep, another PF2 rookie, if that's ok.

I'm not overly-familiar with any of the APs you mentioned, though I am currently starting in a run of Return of the Runelords...but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be overly burdensome.

Will definitely be keeping an eye open for it!

That's the one that starts with Crypt of Everflame, yes? If so, I'd be interested. I've never had an opportunity to play that, either tabletop or through pbp.

Looking forward to it.

As to the question of rolling stats vs point-buy, I'm good either way.

But if we have to choose, I prefer rolling...there's something just fun and exciting about the randomness. Having to take and use what fate gives you to create a new adventurer and make it work. Reminds me of the old days when I was first starting. I'm not really concerned with balance between characters when I'm playing. Some of my favorite characters, (my own and other players) had only one or two good stats, and had to rp at least one bad one...and it made them more interesting.

Just my two cents.

Likewise, I think both themes sound fun, and are more than worthy of a game. I'm sure I could come up with a character for either setting. That said, my personal lean would be towards The Dalelands, since I have never actually played in a campaign set there. I've played characters from there, but never actually rp'd any time in any of the Dales.

* shrug * But Waterdeep is always cool, too.

SuperTumbler, as an alternative to changing the Dune Drifter to spend grit for a ranged Challenge, would you allow a renamed/reskinned Order of the Land? It doesn't give full Challenge bonus for ranged attacks, but it would give +1 for every 4 levels along with the usual melee bonus.
How about you take Order of the Land and you get full Challenge for ranged attacks as Luring Cavalier but not the extra +1/4 levels?

You strike a hard bargain, sir. LOL Love it! Thank you.

Question about the Dune Drifter archetype:

While I know the Cavalier class says it's for melee, would it be possible to get challenge damage on firearm attacks? Since it's a 'ranged weapon' kinda game, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Going to have to ponder that. It seems like a plain upgrade from challenge. Maybe it should cost grit or something?

I'd be cool with it if you went that route. Having to pick when it was being used would definitely make it more situational and thus more "cinematic". But it's not a necessity, obviously.

Thanks, Lapyd. I'm severely tempted, and would love a ranged challenge, but I like the feel of the Dune Drifter more.

Should have this character done tomorrow, methinks.

I was thinking of an order called the tin stars? silver stars? siccatite stars? Anyway a sort of national group like US Marshals, or Varisia only group like Texas rangers, or maybe independent like Pinkertons, but more noble. A way for someone to play the Lone Ranger type as a paladin or cavalier.

And of course the "stars" are sihedrons.

Obviously! ;)

I think I like Silver Stars.

Hey there.
After a lot of thought and consideration as to the amount of free time I have, and also seeing that you have no shortage of applicants, I'm going to withdraw from this.

I hope you have a great time!

Currently working on a Arcane Duelist-Bard 1 / Dune Drifter-Cavalier 2.

Raised in room over a saloon owned by his uncle, learning to play cards, drink, and the ways of the world, then eventually moved on to join with some Longriders (Think Texas Ranger types, maybe?) much as his father had, years before. Currently leaning toward Order of the Road.

Also, any chance you might snag 5 of us rather than 4? I'm seeing a lot of cool ideas in this thread...

Or that drifter Cavalier archetype; really there's a bunch of good options.

I dunno if it'd work with a gambler concept, per se, but DANG, that Dune Drifter is a cool archetype.

Now you've got me all wishy washy as to what to roll up. LOL

Aiming toward making a rogue of some type, (Need to look through the archetypes), with the stated profession of "Gambler".

Every good western needs one, right? ;)

Depending on how weird and wild you want to get with that concept, a Legendary Ninja or Everyman Games Unchained Ninja with shuriken reflavored as cards could be pretty crazy.
That magus archetype with the harrow deck would be awesome on the "gambler" concept, reflavored.

As awesome as those Ninja options would be, I'm seriously interested in the Card Caster-Magus archetype for this gambler. I mean, when else is this archetype going to make more sense??

Very cool idea. Bravo.

A5E. Hmmm. Hadn't heard of it.
I'd give it a go.

Skills I will be using Background Skulls.

Skulls in the background are creepy. Scary. Could even be used as foreshadowing...Very atmospheric. I like that. ;)

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Are you leaning more towards Dalelands or Waterdeep-ish? Or is that still undecided?

Much love for the Realms. I'd be interested.

* eats popcorn * Lovin' this thread. Not sure it's a recruitment-anything anymore, but it's interesting as hell.

I've never played that AP, so I'd never miss the "mythic-ness", and I'd be absolutely interested.

Likewise, I've never played Iron Gods either, so that'd be cool too.

...yeah, I'm AP deprived. Mostly our group adapted older D&D modules for Pathfinder and Homebrewed them. ;)

Interesting idea. Clever, even.

Phlynn here. Still working on my character crunch, but wanted to get Malhyn's concept onto the prospects list.

Human, Wizard, Divination school

Background: Learned Guard Prodigy
For some, the nuts and bolts of keeping the peace are practically second nature. Such is the case for you, a member of the Learned Guard with an incredible mind for investigation as well as a gift for understanding magic. You probably aren’t a hit with your peers, who find your intellect and natural gift of deduction perhaps a bit off-putting, but when left to your own devices you excel, and you get along with professors and mages such as those who work in Forae Logos or the Arcanamirium.

After no shortage of debating the pros and cons, you decided to transfer to the Edgewatch precinct. Sure, you have a keen understanding of the theories and principles behind law enforcement, but you’ve reasoned that in order to be a truly effective guard you’ll need some first-hand experience in a high-risk area nabbing suspects and protecting innocents - all the while taking fastidious notes and writing your grand thesis on the merits and shortcomings of Absalom’s laws.

Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Intelligence or Wisdom and one is a free ability boost.

You’re trained in your choice of the Arcana or Occultism skill, as well as Legal Lore. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Deception, Diplomacy, and Intimidation checks to interact with Learned Guards and with academics such as librarians and scholars. You gain the Recognize Spell skill feat.

Secret Background:
Malhyn.’s elder brother Mondas was once a member of the Guard, in the Edgewatch district, who was brutally murdered almost eight years ago. The crime was never solved. At the time Malhyn was an aspiring student at the Arcanamirium, but began to lose focus and ability to study with the loss of his sibling. Eventually he found solace in dedicating himself to finding his brother’s murderer, and in so doing, sought out instructors and mentors in the divination schools of magic. Though talented with a lot of potential, Malyn eventually left the school, much to his teachers’ dismay, and joined the ‘Watch, pushing to be assigned to Edgewatch..

Character should be complete within a day or so.

Quick question while I work on my wizard. Is magic missile automatically lethal damage in 2e? Can it be made non lethal? I imagine Edgewatch agents wouldn't be out to murder common thieves and drunks.

Personally, thinking Vulcan. ;)

"Fascinating." Definitely interested.

Consider me interested. :) Wizard, likely. More details to come.

Interested in this quirky looking AP. Haven't played 2e but would like to do so.

Question about PbP expectations #9:

Quote:

Participate in the Bot Tree:

Pledge to Bot the characters immediately preceding and following (and wrapping around) your character's alphabetical name in the event of a 24-hour space elapsing when they have been "up" - As a GM I will not Bot characters, so it is up to the party as a team to support eachother in this regard.

Not an objection or arguement, merely a question: It's an interesting idea, letting other characters, rather than the GM, to bot missing chars. How has this worked out in practice?

My submission for the game.

Tuong Kinh

A character concept: briefly explain who they are and what they bring to the party.
An initiate monk of the Order of the Stalwart Fist, Tuong Kinh is a talented martial artist, though he usually prefers diplomacy and introspection to lethal combat when possible. Admittedly, as a true student of the Seven Forms, the young monk does enjoy friendly hand-to-hand competition when the opportunity presents itself. Excited to be out and on his own after spending the last ten years of his life secluded at the Monastery, he is also very aware of his responsibility to live up to the high standards of his Order. As such, Tuong will strive through the use of truth, logic and discipline to act as a protector and advisor to his companions and those in need.

Backstory: A brief overview of your character's history, showing what motivates them.
Tuong Kinh is the son of a Tian scribe and a Qadiran herbalist from the Monastery of Seven Forms, a locale that over the years was subjected to both Tian and Qadiran rule, and in the eventual ceasing of hostilities, there developed an eventual interweaving of people and cultures. One of the Masters of the Order took note of Tuong’s natural abilities from a young age, and encouraged the boy’s parents to offer their son up for assessment and training in the Monastery of Seven Forms. Honored, the couple obliged, and have followed their son’s progress, albeit from a distance, ever since.

Why Heldren: Why is your character in the small town of Heldren in southern Taldor?
Quite simply, as his last official responsibility as an apprentice to the Monastery, and his first duty as a true brother of the Stalwart Fist, Tuong was tasked with delivering a wax-sealed scroll (containing a message to someone in Heldren, from one of the Masters of the temple. Message and contents to be decided by the DM.) As such, the young monk has traveled south from the Monastery of Seven Forms, a city built around a Tian monastery in the World’s Edge Mountains, At times on his own, and at others traveling with a merchant’s caravan, Tuong Kinh has only recently arrived in town.

A little crunch: This should at minimum be a race/class/archetype combo. I don't need full crunch at this time, but if that's your thing go wild.
Tuong Kinh, human monk of the Stalwart Fist.
At this time, I don’t intend to have him take any archetype, but rather, simply grow as a base/standard monk. I am, however, open to discussion on this. :)

(Note: Info for background found HERE, and subject to DM approval, obviously.)

Dot!
Submitting a cleric of some kind. Details to follow

Settling on Monk, methinks.
Have always wanted to play one but never had the opportunity.

Considering an Arcanist with the Adaptive Magic campaign trait.

That or some sort of survival-focused melee type (Ranger or Barbarian) since there seems to be an abundance already of casters likely to be submitted.

Awesome.

Will check out the Player's Guide and start working on character ideas.

Just an odd thought, but when was the last time Rise of the Runelords was run on the boards?

I'll be honest, I'm getting intrigued by this "reskinned without Mythic" version of Wrath of the Righteous idea. Haven't been interested in that AP, mostly because I've heard it gets too power-gamey. Fun, but over-the-top levels of powerful.

DM_Delmoth wrote:

Thanks for all the responses so far! The weighted tally has the top 3 as

1. Wrath of the Righteous
2. Carrion Crown
3. Hell Vengeance sorry I can't run this but Arjuna332 has decided to, lol.
3. Ironfang Invasion

I'll keep the tally going until the end of June and then put up the recruitment for whatever it is I finally decide.

All three remaining choices ware excellent, and among those offered, personally I'd prefer Ironfang Invasion.

That said, might I also suggest The Dragon's Demand? It's not an AP, per se, but it's long enough to be one. I've seen it and wanted to play it for some time. Just my two cents.
