You set out the next morning. The journey back to the portal takes 2 hours and you come upon a scene of utter chaos.
The open cavern in front of the portal is filled with dozens of bizarre creatures tearing each other apart, seemingly to reach the portal themselves. Horrific and alien noises ring out and echo back. The floor is slick with blood, and the air burns with acrid fumes.
The magic of the portal has attracted many bizarre Darklands monsters. Much like the deep gnome villagers, these creatures have been cut off from the rest of the Darklands, and they want to see what else is out there. However, the magic and excitement, along with the aggression of many of the Darklands residents, has led to an enormous battle. The monsters are mostly holding each other at bay, but as you watch, a couple of gogiteths break free from the chaos and soon, their long legs disappear through the portal! The portal starts to flicker dangerously. You have only moments to get through!
You need to cross approximately 120 feet to get past the battlefield to the portal. You each must choose one method to get across the battlefield. You can use a skill appropriate to your method:
Acrobatics to avoid attacks
Athletics to shove monsters out of the way
Survival to find a path around the battlefield
Melee attacks to fight through.
We're not in initiative. The melee attack is like any other skill check
Success means you get to the portal unscathed
Failure means you get to the portal but are targeted by a melee attack.
Teleportation or similar spells - no check required, automatic success
Flying/Burrowing: +5 bonus to your check
Shaine and the other Pathfinders easily get across (of course!)

Gorm Greathammer bellows something in Dwarven at Red. For some reason, Red is more affected than it should.
Red suddenly sees three arrows materialize out of nowhere and head straight for it. Fortunately for it (or unfortunately for the shooter), it dodges all three arrows.
Durg goes into huge carnivore mode and manages to take an equally huge bite out of Red (Wonder if it tasted good...).
