As of this posting, early access seating for other Outpost GMs is open (but if you're one of those you probably don't need me to tell you).
General seating opens for all February 10th.
The convention starts March 7th, so the game itself will start in... almost exactly one month!

I have several Possible Character ready, but need someone to look over them for errors. Particularly the items my....Pathfinder society school loaned me, and I am unsure of my spell selection.

The school item is one consumable, and the default choice of a healing potion is a fine option--you don't have to pick a school yet.

This is a slightly unusual time because everybody is getting ready for the con. There's a lull in recruiting (really not, it's just happening on the Outpost spreadsheet instead of the Lodge thread) and in new games starting (but a whole bunch will start all at once on March 7th).

While paizo.com is known to be, shall we say, "quirky"? It does have some nice pbp features similar to those you see on some dedicated pbp sites like Role-Play OnLine or Myth Weavers.
First of all, just the ability to create a campaign like this that links several types of thread together. Another is your "Campaigns" screen that shows all of your current pbp games. To add this game to your Campaigns list, you just have to post in the Gameplay thread. People all this "dotting" on this forum--that slang predates my participation here, but I'm pretty sure it's just because threads you've posted in are marked with a dot.

I suggest dotting in the gameplay thread with the character you intend to play (so that the correct character is listed) and then immediately deleting the post (which won't remove the dot, but will keep the thread neat since the game hasn't actually started). If you don't know yet, you can use your main handle--that doesn't hurt anything, it'll just list that as a character you're playing when you look at the campaign in your menu.

The other useful feature is aliases. You can see that the other players above posted as their characters, and that I'm using a GM handle here. While you can create other aliases (like said GM handle), your Society characters are automatically available as aliases for posting.

Standard practice is to use that to post for that character, to include their character sheet and records in their profile*, and to include a basic statline with things like AC and saves in your name and gender lines (since those show up in your posts).

That's... probably a lot already, so I'll stop there for now. The advantage of joining up before a pbp con is that this game is scheduled in advance. We've got time.

*Note that when I say "standard practice" here, I'm referring specifically to playing pbp games on this site. If you're not doing that with a character, you do not need to include any of this in your profile and chances are very good that nobody will ever look at it other than you. Though you're still welcome to use it for record-keeping if you want (personally, I use a spreadsheet).

I've been working on helping Ramlatus format Pipzil's character sheet. But one thing we should discuss is Mentor Boons. Pipzil will be playing a Level 1 character in a high-tier game.

Everyone else, what mentor boons do you bring? Remember, Mentor boons are free! You can download them for your faction. Having some mentor boons on Pip will greatly help him in this game!

Oof, didn't think of that. Not ideal for your first game, but easier online than in person--you can just add the adjustments to your sheet instead of needing to add theme every time they come up.

Ramlatus, both of those things are presumably new to you. RPG Chronicles is a tool that will help me create and distribute your Chronicles--records of the game. These are pretty simple in person (just fill out the sheet) but can be a hassle online. The website is a big help, and for this game the event coordinators are having all GMs use it so they can gather reporting information that way.
And we'll use the Google Slides as a kind of table top. I'll put any images and handouts there, and at some point I'll add a map you can move your tokens on.
The links to both things will always be available from the top left of any page in any of this games threads, although you'll probably only need to access the RPG Chronicles link once (that one's posted mostly for my convenience, since I'll need it again).

If you have any questions about either, just let me know.

They are Boons you can buy from the Boon store. They're free, but require 20 Reputation with a faction--so most characters should be able to get them before hitting level 3.

They don't actually benefit the character who owns them, but a lower-level character in their party who is getting a level bump. They improve the level bump.

I'm adding some information to the Slides (though tbh I stole it from Hmm).

Right, I grabbed the Vigilant Seal one.

While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide pointers and lead drills that ensure your newer colleagues’ attacks strike true. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to attack rolls to 2.
Normal: A Level Bump increases a PC’s attack roll modifiers by 1.
Special: A PC can only benefit from two mentor boons

Also, I have been informed that the con will offer door prizes! These prizes take the form of Paizo online store vouchers and will be delivered via e-mail. That means that to be eligible to win you must include your e-mail address when you fill out the RPG Chronicles page.

...basically everybody does that anyway, and thank you because it's the easiest way to deliver Chronicles after the game. But now you have extra incentive in case you weren't gonna.

I'm planning on going for the happy medium that "assumes a group of players that approaches the mysteries in a serious but skeptical manner," but if anyone has other preferences now's the time to say so.

Right, we have a player new to pbp. I should probably give a quick rundown on what's up with that?

So! One of the way most pbp GMs deal with the fact that we're all posting at different times is sometimes called Block Initiative. The exact details of how it works can vary a bit between GMs, but the general summary amounts to grouping PCs who act back-to-back and inviting you all to post.

So if we had a case where it's Anna's turn and then Bob's, in real-time that's no trouble at all. Go ahead Anna.
But in pbp, what if Bob is online now checking the game, and Anna is asleep and doesn't check in for 10 hours or more? And then if Bob also thinks he should wait for the GM to resolve Anna's turn, but the GM doesn't get to it for another large number of hours. And then Bob isn't on for the next large number of hours. And then the next player also waits for the GM...

Waiting one-by-one for specific people to post can take days, whereas if Bob had just posted when he had the chance the whole thing would have been a lot faster. And they're on the same team, does it even make a significant difference if Bob jumps Anna's turn? It might, but in most cases it doesn't. Most players agree that avoiding that delay is worth it.

So, Block Initiative. The important part is that the enemy got a good Initiative result and acted before most of you. All players now get their turns, so whichever one is on next can post.
You can, of course, post that you're holding off until you see a certain result or delaying for a certain ally--you just don't have to.

I've not used battle medicine yet, that was Haka. The wording of battle medicine makes it look like it is only your own battle medicine that characters are immune to after use.

Really appreciate Pik's magical weapon spell, but Mindartis' longbow is already a +1 striking longbow. I didn't point that out in my attacks because of too much typing. But the stat already includes the bonuses.

The shoving part is possible, but creating the portal takes too long to do in combat actions. That's why they needed to be distracted first to pull it off.

And I don't know why I'm bothering to roll the chaotic damage.
