Jim tries to eavesdrop.

Ratel Dier |

Yes I was, I was going to bypass the door unless you've already taken care of it Ciri.
Ciri has not taken care of it. Hearing the talking on the other side of the door, Ratel frowns. Turning towards Thoron he asks, as he retrieves his spear from where he'd leaned it. "Did you say you could melt the stone around the door?"

brvheart |

He can stone shape the wall to the west. The converstation is coming from the door to the north. You hear a voice you think you recognize Jim, but not sure.

Terodius Mitrakin |

"Shhh! Terodius tries to get everyone to be quiet, whispering "If we can hear them, they might be able to hear us!"
He reshapes his anytool into a masterwork ear trumpet, and hands it to Jim to listen at the door.
He starts expounding a plan (still whispering) "I can try to break the binding spell on the door. Fralk, you get to lock picking. Everyone else get ready to bust on through..."
Plan - Jim listens at the door. I cast dispel magic on the arcane lock. Fralk picks the lock. We jump the people on the other side. Everybody keep very quiet so the other side doesn't get a chance to get ready.

I know I am old and all, but let me try this again. The west wall has the door with the arcane lock on it. The north door appears to be unlocked and is the one that you hear a noise from. Which is a good thing because you aren't getting anywhere rolling a 1.

brvheart |

Several of you, at minimum Jim and Ciri will recognize Aphis, a local merchant here haggling with three trolls. You have had some minor dealings with him in town.

brvheart |

Is this the same person that runs the store by overcharging everything?
That's him Thoron,

Seeing the light of recognition in Thoron's eyes, Ratel pauses in the doorway. The idea of 'treating' with trolls turning his stomach, Ratel knows his friend Thoron is honorable and would not dishonor them or put them in danger. Trusting that, Ratel looks down at the dwarf and asks, "Friends of yours?"

As you just got here you would really have any info about the locals. He does look human and is wearing a robe so no visible armor or weapons.
Upon the door opening the trolls leave the room and from it sounds they enter a nearby room.
"Yes? Was just conducting a little business for the Trade Monopoly. Some time you have to deal with unsavory types."

noting the foul look Thoron gives the merchant, Ratel shakes his head, "Overcharging may be reprehensible, but it is not a crime."
Not sure where they are, or why there is a merchant here, Ratel looks towards the merchant. "You there, do you have a key to the door behind us?"

brvheart |

You see a momentary look of fear in his eyes at the question, "Key, I have no keys here. I must go and attend my shop." With that he starts to walk out.

Terodius Mitrakin |

Terodius's voice is quiet, almost conversational, yet the weight of intent behind the words ...
"What is your creed, trollfriend? Confession is good for the soul."

Yes, the Mitran inquisition is in the house...

"Slim" Jim |

Jim doesn't add anything but he gives the greedy merchant a dirty look.

Ratel Dier |

Which direction is the merchant going?
Unsure what caused the look of fear in the merchant's eye, Ratel smirks, when Terodius begins his inquisition. Turning towards the others, he see's the dirty look Jim was giving he merchant. The merchant being a blatant reminder that Ratel clearly had missing gaps in his memory.
As he considered the implications, he turned towards the goblin. "No-me-name, you joined the team while I was 'away.' I mean no offense, but most goblins are untrustworthy. this is obviously not the case with you." He gestures the general direction of the three trolls, not sure how to ask if all the monster races in this evil place may be different as well. "Do you know if other creatures from below may be trustworthy as you are, or are you the 'exception to the rule'?"

brvheart |

"I am high priest of Set. I must thank you all for killing my father, saved me the trouble!"
With that, his bat wings become visible and he flies out the north door.

He was in the northern half of the room with the trolls when you came in the southern door.

Fralk ibn Sabbah |

The goblin looks up at the large man. Left on monastery steps... I no raised in goblin tribe. Me just... me.
Yes other people look like act... strange. I get here falling into sand pit, run from sand monster. He looks at the trolls.

Terodius Mitrakin |

Ok, so both the 3 trolls and the high priest of Set buggered off through the door into room 13 (on the map)... I have put a red arrow on the map to show the general movement for everyone's convenience...
And this all happened without init rolls, because of story beat (and likely big set piece fight in the next room). I presume we will pursue.
"Get that bastard!"
A quick prayer to Mitra for his aid, and Terodius is off in pursuit...
Standard - cats Heroism, extended with rod
Move action - follow the high priest

Ratel Dier |

Realizing the goblins story explained a lot, Ratel is about to respond when the merchant produces wings and heads north. Reacting as Terodius yells 'Get the bastard' Ratel, moves forwards shifting his spear to both hands.
that's a 20ft move for ratel, will wait on the second half of the round until he learns what or where things are at in the room he entered. hm, golem mode is - 8 dex so a - 2 to init. so maybe ratel's reaction isn't first :)
init: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 or maybe it is, well see.

The priest who is flying a lot faster than 20' flies through a passage to the NE.

Seeing the 'merchant' flee towards the north And Ciri disappear after him, Ratel keeps hustling forwards as quickly as his Golem shape will allow.
Double move 40 ft

Ratel Dier |

Yep, didn't read down far enough, half speed so 20 ft. I'll fix his location on the map.

But you double moved so 40' was right. I moved him back.

"Slim" Jim |

Worried about where the high priest was leading them, Jim rushed after him.
Double move, I think that's about 60' Jim moved.
