Found Journal:
Entry Eleven: The track down the Sellen River was unbearable. Although Captain Shearwart did his best to accommodate our clergy, the trip was tedious. Luckily, we didn’t encounter any of the river patrols that we thought might come across our path. Once we reach Cassomir, we should be boarding a sea vessel large enough to accommodate our trip to Korvosa. We haven’t heard anything from our contacts from that regen for quite some time but the shipping lanes in that area are flush with potential. I suspect, after greasing the wheel a bit, we can pick up a few extra girls Korvosa. After resupplying, we will head to Magnimar, where Jonavan has arranged for four new girls. The pickup should be smooth, considering the area is well off the beaten path. From there, we will head to Sandpoint and meet with Gidra. Her and her crew should have a solid number for us.

Entry Fourteen: We have brokered a deal with the curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Darrick Humphry. He heads one of Caliphas’s underground gangs, which governs the city’s sewer system. The oversized system should take us directly to the temple without having to navigate through the city with the girls.

Entry Twenty-Three: We have collected fourteen girls in total, which should be enough to justify this trip. Adding these girls to our total should please Lord Eastabon. Assuming he doesn’t eliminate any of them, we should have enough to attempt the Gulden Ritual. If the ancient text is correct, this could free Tar-Baphon.

Entry Twenty-Seven: After investigating a disturbance that took place late last night, we have concluded that Sandpoint is aware of our operation. This could undermine our plans if they choose to pursue things further. I have decided, at no small expense, to attempt an old ritual called the awakening. If successful, it will leave Sandpoint with enough on their plate to keep them occupied for quite some time.

Entry Twenty-Seven: is the last entry within the journal.

Copied Ledger Note:
“Lost Minimum Wage Guy:” On the seventh page, second entry: The curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Museum, which is a subdivision of the archive, is requesting help locating a missing assistant. The contract offers round trip accommodations aboard a merchant vessel to Caliphas and four paid nights at a location of the group’s choice. The contract offers 1,000 gp on completion, with another 1,000 gp if the assistant is returned. The contract is sponsored by the Quarterfaux Archive. The listed contact is the museum’s curator Cynthia Nail.

“No More Squatters:” On the sixth page, first entry: A request to investigate and eliminate suspected cult activity north of Caliphas, in Ustalav, stands out as one of the higher paying contracts. The contract provides comfortable round-trip travel and accommodations at the Vodavani Lodge for the group’s entire stay. The contract offers 2,000 gp upon conformation of the cult and another 6,000 gp if they are eliminated. The sponsor for the contract is the Royal House of Ordranti. The listed contact is Lord Leopold the III.

Dotting. I got a couple of ideas floating about in my head, like an armiger (fighter archetype) of the Order of the Pike or Torrent, or a cleric of Asmodeus. Do let me know if the latter would be a problem :)

I'm going with no on the cleric of Asmodeus. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a Hell Knight IF the backstory strongly supported a reason why they were seeking independent adventuring. Keep in mind that I strongly lean towards non evil alignments unless I have some sense of the player and their ability to RP an evil alignment without breaking the game.

Hello All!

I have been following this Thread with no intention of applying (even though I am interested), but I continue to think that my little Rogue would be fun to play again.

He was previously involved in a little thing called The Ironfang Invasion, but could of since fled the scene to Magnimar possibly...lol!

I get that there may be a bit of a restrictive Ancestry, so.....

Ahmose; the Blue Whisper

Thank you for running!

Check! I'll let my mind wander for the next couple of days and see if anything hits me.

I like to let the setting inspire my character choices, so I'll do some digging into Magnimar.

@GM Nightfiend: I've got a few requests. Could I take the Intense Artist Trait from Inner Sea Gods and Faiths of Purity and the Sheltered drawback from Quests and Campaigns? Both fit Talienda and her backstory. I don't think either of them will cause any issues as far as balance is concerned. (Speaking form experience, having the Sheltered drawback can be brutal in combat.)

Also, would Rich Parents be too much? Most of it is probably going towards her wardrobe.

Lastly, what is your policy on NPCs? I wanted to know if Talienda having a maid would be okay.

I have not yet picked spells but Mary Anne is about ready.

Curious, what placeholder level 20 feat are you considering?

Pin Down. Turns 5' steps or withdraws by people around me into provoking actions.

The full list (cut'n'pasted from my working document):

** Feats **
S1 Weapon Finesse (Rapier only)
S1 Weapon Focus (Rapier)
1 Fencing Grace (Ultimate Intrigue - Source Exception)
3 <Combat Reflexes>
S4 <Weapon Specialization (Rapier)>
S5 <Improved Critical (rapier only)>
5 <Combat Expertise>
7 <Improved Disarm>
S8 <Greater Weapon Focus (Rapier)>
9 <Critical Focus>
11 <Bleeding Critical>
S12 <Greater Weapon Specialization (Rapier)>
13 <Penetrating Strike>
15 <Greater Disarm>
S16 <Greater Penetrating Strike>
17 <Disruptive?>
19 <Spell Breaker?>
S20 <Pin Down?>

** Traits **
Basic: Combat: Vigilant Battler: +1 trait on Sense Motive, +2 vs Feint
Basic: Social: Friend in Every Town: +1 trait Knowledge (local) & Diplomacy. One becomes Class Skill.

Added note: Both Knowledge (local) & Diplomacy are already Class Skills, so that bit is kinda pointless, but it is an aspect of the trait, so . . ..

There are so many other options, including additional Critical Feats, that once you cover the obvious hits, figuring out which of the rest to take when becomes an unsolvable puzzle. Swordplay Style, for example, seems a very thematic choice, but I won't have the pre-reqs until Level 5, and then unless I want to forego the ALSO thematically appropriate disarm feats, I won't have a slot to take what amounts to a +1 shield bonus feat until Level 17 . . .. Though ignoring the Combat Expertise attack penalty on the first attack of the round is ALSO a really nice benefit . . .. Probably the better benefit, really.

There would be much less difficulty picking Feats if Swashbuckler didn't include the statement that Swashbuckler levels count as Fighter levels for Combat feats . . ..

The rogue looks good but would need to be reworked away from kobold. The feat Circling Mongoose is acceptable. I could see this being a solid rogue tactic.

The game could, and likely will, move around a lot. It is starting in Magnimar, but, depending on the choices the group makes, could literally send you anywhere. I look forward to seeing your submission.

Yes on both the trait and the draw back. Both are reasonable. As fare as the maid goes, it will depend on if she is a slave-maid, or a paid-maid who requires an out-of-pocket expense. It will also vary a bit depending on the region you end up adventuring in. Slave + Andoran = Bad / Slave + Katapesh = No one cares, etc.

Rich parents, if it fits into the character’s backstory, is acceptable.

Marry Ann looks good. With a bit of a background in paid adventuring and her wanderlust, she will enjoy mercenary adventuring.

Pin down is acceptable. As for your other choices...(small-grin)... it sounds like a comfortable place to be in, when you have to many good choices. Once you narrow it down, if there is a feat that falls outside the available material, let me know and I'll review it.

She'd be a paid maid, definitely a paid maid.

Also, we're starting in Magnimar, right? Just want to make sure.

I'm putting something together (reworking an old rogue concept into an investigator) and will post before your deadline pending acceptance/rejection from another pending application.

Sounds good.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I could draw him up as an Elf, although just be a totally different character at that point.
I have been wanting to play a Jaraxle type for a while....

Oh lordy, Jaraxle and Tali in the same party? The poor girl's got enough on her plate without adding "Being seduced by smexy elf scoundrel" to the it!

Elf would be acceptable.

Warning: There are spoilers for the module Hangman's Noose in Talienda's background. I can't avoid spoiling the end of the module since it has some pretty major developments for Talienda as a character.

Background:

Some of Talienda's background is based on a previous game she was in. I'll be adapting it to help streamline some things and give her some enemies to chase her out.

For most of Talienda's life, she thought she was just like any other girl in the Petals District of Absolom. She was born to loving parents. Her father saw to it she had the best tutors and learned to be a perfect lady. Her mother taught her the finer points of behavior and helped her when she was feeling down or upset.

The first crack appeared when Talienda's mother died. It was ruled a mugging gone wrong, but something about the set of her father's jaw told her that something else was going on, even at the young age of six. Diago, Talienda's father, grew distant after his wife's death. He would shower her with gifts, such as the day he brought her kitten home, but the love that was there seemed to be trapped behind ice. Her tutor, Felrial, stepped in, acting as a surrogate father to her. When her father was around, he was often accompanied by a barrister, one Alastir Wade, that quickly became her Uncle Ally, though she wouldn't suspect why Felrial was so cold to the man until much later in her life.

About a year after Talienda's mother died, Alina Cailean, a young orphan that Diago took in to be Talienda's maid, came into young girl's life. They learned from Felrial, who doted on Alina no less than he did Talienda. Station meant little to the pair of them, and they became thick as thieves in their escapades, Echo always there to help them stir up trouble.

Things continued for several more years. Telrial's tenure as Talienda's tutor ended when she turned fourteen. They promised to write, but after six months and two unanswered letters, Talienda supposed the elf forgot their promise. New tutors were hired to help her become the very example of a young lady. Diago often said he was proud of her, and Talienda always noticed the way he seemed to look past her to something only he could see when he did so.

Her life started to fall apart the night her father died. Diago and his bodyguards were brutally murdered late one night. Investigations began and the once cheerful Talienda feel into a state of shock and depression. Alina did her best to help Talienda through the next week.

A week to the day, Talienda was abducted from one of the gardens on her estate just after receiving a letter threatening her life and brought with several others to the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse, the site of the crimes that Jarbin Mord was framed for and died because of, in no small part because of her father's hand in the matter.

It was a night of horrors that began with a street thug, Malgrim, that had been a juror sitting on the case of Jarbin Mord and one of Diago's enforcers asking if anyone knew of Diago's kin. It was then that Talienda learned of the bounty on her head.

The terrified young woman looked around the rest of the courtroom she found herself in, wondering who she could trust. Echo, her cat, appeared and lead Talienda to Rissi Than and Talib Adb Al-Abadar. It was fortunate that she did so.

One by one the jurors died. One was a victim of her father's schemes, a half-orc smith named Halgrak, and Talienda wanted to save him, and get him and his family out from the looming debt he'd accrued at one of her father's gambling dens. His death hit the hardest, and not the least because it was Talienda that almost killed him.

What may have been more cruel was the revelations that Talienda had that night. Each piece of evidence and word spoken by the other jurors revealed that the man Talienda knew was a lie, and her father's true nature was that of a monster.

As the night of horrors came to a climax, a maddened knight of Iomedae, Rekkart Cole, attacked Talienda, egged on by a woman named Patrissa, who had figured out who Talienda was and had been bribed by Alastir Wade. Patrissa's own wickedness became manifest and she turned into an undead monstrosity that slew Rekkart before trying to do the same to Talienda and her companions.

It was only through divine grace and more than their fair share of luck that Talib, Rissi, and Talienda survived the encounter. Exhausted, they ran across the last two players in the macabre farce, Silman Trabe and Alastir Wade, both of whom were in the middle of an argument when the trio of survivors, and a cat named Echo, happened upon them. Confronted with the evidence Talib presented, Trabe admitted his part in the crime.

With that admission, the specters of Jarbin and Melene Mord appeared. Hundreds of nooses hung from the ceiling. Alastir tried to persuade Talienda, but as she had learned of her father's crimes she too had learned of Alastir's part. She confronted the man with the truth, and Alastir showed his fangs to her. He knocked her to the ground, sparking a berserk fury in Echo. The man knocked the cat aside, but was too late to do anything about Rissi tripping him. He hit the floor hard enough to be dazed, and unable to fight back as Talib put the noose around his neck.

The night of horrors ended with taking Trabe to the Bank of Abadar where he was put into custody while the bank worked with the magistrates to investigate the corruption he was part of. Talienda was broken after that night. Her world had been built on a lie, and it had shattered when the crimes of her father and Uncle Ally were revealed. She paid off Halgrak's deaths and sent his widow and children more than enough money to go anywhere they wanted to go and live comfortably for years. She couldn't bring herself to face them.

Sadly, Talienda's troubles were only beginning. She and Alina moved into a smaller house that her father had owned to throw off any potential reprisals. The effort was in vain. Barely a month after surviving Jarbin Mord's vengeance, a crazed elven assassin calling herself Hecka Heckles attacked the small garden home. Two of the guards hired to keep Talienda safe died covering her escape.

She and Alina ran to Talib, who was working with Rissi on Diago's murder. The two of them worked quickly, Talib chartered a place for Talienda and Alina on a merchant ship, the White Rose, and sent a message on ahead to Magnimar, the ship's last port of call on its trip. Rissi guided Talienda and Alina to the ship with the remaining two guards watching their backs.

It was fortunate that they did. Hecka Heckles found them and attacked. The guards held her off while Rissi, Talienda, and Alina ran for the docks. Along the way, Talib ran into them and guided them around an ambush that had been set up to catch them. They made it onto the White Rose and Talib told the captain to shove off. He and Rissi disappeared just as the ship left its moorings behind. Less than five minutes after setting sail, Hecka Heckles skidded onto the pier the White Rose had been anchored to. Seeing her quarry had gotten away, she laughed and called out to the ship, promising to get Talienda next time.

The last Talienda saw of Absolom was the glittering of the lights as they sank below the horizon.

The voyage was long. Talienda spent most of her time in the cabin she shared with Alina. Alina helped her work through the grief and guilt Talienda suffered under, at least she helped her start working through it. It wasn't until they were passing the Lady's Light that Talienda worked up the energy to leave the cabin and come on deck. The captain of the ship invited her to dinner that night and commented on how glad he was to see her doing better.

When the ship docked in Magnimar, Talienda, Alina, and Echo found two new friends waiting for them. A bright, energetic mage named Tera Flinders, and a more reserved, but no less cheerful paladin of Shelyn named Joanna Whitehall, the daughter of the man that owned the White Rose and the Whitehall Mercantile Company. The pair hit it off with Talienda and Alina almost immediately as they escorted them to the Rusty Flagon Inn. As they parted ways, Tera and Joanna promised to come see Talienda and Alina soon.

It was, Talienda thought, a great way to begin things again.

Appearance:

Features:
Age: 16
Height: 5 feet
Weight: 90 lbs.
Skin: Alabaster White with cool undertones
Eyes: Blue speckled with silver
Hair: Long, curly, raven-black with blue-white highlights

Talienda is a small, young woman with delicate features. Her hair is worn long and often done up in different styles as the mood takes her or Alina. She favors simpler clothing when at home, but wears clothes more fitting to her noble status when out and about or planning on meeting someone.

Personality:

Motivation: Talienda is looking for a place she can call home and friends she can trust.

Talienda is a kind, quiet girl who's recent experiences have strained her emotions and self-control to the breaking point. She is a stranger to violence and the world her father operated in, and finding out about that side of him has left her questioning everything she knew about him.

Before the death of her father, she was being tutored and raised to be the image of a perfect lady, and as part of her teenage rebellion, she and echo often snuck off and explored the gardens around her home. She has a whimsical side that delights in silly tales and wordplay, a side that Echo is all to eager to aid and abet. She enjoys painting, drawing, singing, dancing, and playing the flute and violin. Her newfound abilities still worry her a little, but she is growing used to them with practice.

Violence does not come naturally to Talienda. Her first inclination is to talk and try working out a solution that doesn't end in a fight.

She cares very much for those close to her. Even if they are there to help her, she tries not to burden them with her troubles or put them in harm's way.

Since the incident at Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse, Talienda has been suffering from bouts of depression and nightmares.

Echo:

Echo is a white cat with long, fluffy fur that has been Talienda's companion for the past ten years. She's four feet long from nose to the tip of her tail. Echo got her name for how she always seemed to be right behind Talienda when she was running around the house and the grounds. When Talienda was kidnapped and taken to the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse, she slipped out and tracked her master down. The connection between her and Talienda deepened as the sorcerous power in the young girl awoke, and while she's always been intelligent, there's a hint of something more now.

And don't let her prim and proper mask fool you, she is a mischievous minx through and through.

NPCs:

Friends
Alina Cailean, NG Female Human Expert/Bard? - Talienda's maid and confidant, Alina has been with Talienda since the two of them were seven. She was an orphan before Diago Blackhorn took her in and gave her a place as Talienda's maid. The two became close once Alina broke through Talienda's shyness. Their misadventures when they were children were the talk of the servants of the Blackhorn family.

Talienda sees Alina as her sister in truth if not by blood. Alina had been resistant to the idea, but seeing how broken Talienda was after the horrors and revelations she endured in the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse, Alina gave in. While Talienda insists on paying her, the pretense of a master and servant relationship has grown increasingly threadbare, especially with Talienda trying to learn what she can to help Alina out with the chores.

Rissi Than, NG Female Ratkin Bard - The granddaughter of one of the jurors that condemned Jarbin Mord to hang, Rissi is one of the reasons that Talienda survived that night of horrors in the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse. Rissi's family had sent her to Absolom to see what became of her grandfather, Rikkan Than. While she had little luck in finding out what became of the old ratkin, she did save Talienda's life and helped her through the traumatic awakening of the sorcerous power she held. While she didn't really like Echo at first, the charming feline was slowly winning her over before Talienda had to flee Absolom. When that night came, Rissi was right there to make sure Talienda made it safely on the ship leaving the harbor.

Talib Adb Al-Abadar, N Male Inquisitor of Abadar - The grandson of one of the jurors that condemned Jarbin Mord to hang, Talib was instrumental in solving the decade-old case and keeping Talienda alive. While lacking in social graces, his tough-mindedness helped keep Talienda from losing her sanity. He had been investigating her father before Diago was murdered, and after learning that Talienda was ignorant of the man's many crimes, secured protection for her. Unfortunately, Diago's enemies were stronger than the Collector anticipated, and it was only with his and Rissi's help that Talienda and Alina escaped with their lives.

Tera Flinders, CG Female Human Arcanist - Third daughter of the head of the Flinders family, Tera is a free-spirited young mage that is content to while away her time in libraries and casting illusions for the amusement of children. Her seemingly foolish personality hides a keen business mind and sharp instincts when it comes to dealing with people. She, along with Joanna, met Talienda and Alina on the docks and has resolved to be their friends since then. A task she made considerable headway on the trip to the Rusty Flagon Inn.

Josephina Annabella Whitehall, LG Female Human Paladin of Shelyn - First daughter of the House of Whitehall, Joanna, as she prefers to be called, is a young paladin in training. Her father is one of the nobles of Magnimar and owner of the Whitehall Mercantile Company. She, along with Tera, met Talienda and Alina on the docks when they arrived. Like Tera, Joanna made no small amount of progress befriending Talienda and Alina on the way to the Rusty Flagon Inn.

Family and Servants
Diago Blackhorn (Deceased), NE Male Human Aristocrat/Rogue - A kind, if distant, businessman to his late wife, only daughter, and the household servants, Diago had a dark side that he hid from those he cared about. Diago made his fortunes as one of Absolom's merciless crime lords. Gambling dens, prostitution, slavery, drugs, real estate, racketeering, extortion, and anything else that had money to be made was Diago's purview. He was involved in the framing of Jarbin Mord for the murder of his wife and infant son to protect Alistair Wade, a barrister that Diago had put on retainer. He was on the jury that voted to hang the man, and after his death, doomed Talienda to take his place when Mord's vengeance was to be enacted.

A week before the events at the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse, Diago was brutally murdered, along with his bodyguards. Who had done it and why were never learned before Talienda was forced to flee Absolom.

Emeralda Dalcine Blackhorn (Deceased), NG Female Aasimar Aristocrat - A distant relation to the Dalcine noble family of Taldor, Talienda's mother was widely considered one of the most beautiful women in all of Absolom, and one that many have compared Talineda to as she has grown older. Emeralda was, as far as Talienda can remember, a kind woman that loved to play with and teach her daughter. She was murdered, persumably in a mugging gone wrong, when Talienda was only six.

Dalton Blackhorn, NE Male Human Aristocrat/Rogue - Diago's estranged brother, Dalton was always jealous of his brother's success and swagger. The one time he and Talienda met after Diago's death is not a fond memory for the young woman. Many of the Blackhorn holdings are currently locked up in Absolom thanks to his efforts to take them from Talienda through the legal system with Johann Stradius' backing. He is a petty man, and while he isn't above having Talienda killed, he would much rather see her in chains as his personal pet.

Felrial Brightmoon, NG Male Elf Bard - Talienda's main tutor while she was growing up, Felrial is a bard with a wealth of experience and knowledge from his studies and adventures. Talienda would often trick him into telling her a story from his adventures instead of teaching her the lesson he had planned when she was a little girl. After Emeralda's death and increasing coolness Diago showed Talienda, Felrial stepped in as surrogate parent for her and then Alina when she joined Talienda in her studies. After Talienda turned fourteen, Diago ended the contract he had with the elf. The two of them promised to write letters to each other, but after six months and two letters of her own with no reply, Talienda figured that her old tutor had forgotten about their promise and gave up.

Herbert Pendarast, LN Male Human Expert - Herbert is the head butler of the Blackhorn household. He is loyal to the head of the house, but has made no effort to hide his feelings about Talienda being in that role, namely that she is unfit for it. He has agreed to keep Talienda informed of what is going on, but little more than that.

Enemies
Alastir Wade (Deceased), NE? Male Human Expert? - Uncle Ally to Talienda, Alastir Wade was a barrister that Diago Blackhorn retained the services of. Diago Blackhorn arranged to have Jarbin Mord framed for his crimes, but ten years later, Mord's specter saw to it that Alastir paid the price for his part in the tragedy. Unfortunately, his death didn't come before Alastir revealed his true nature to Talienda in all of its ugliness. The revelation was only one of many that night, but it stung no less for it.

Johann Stradius, LE Male Half-Elf Aristocrat/Fighter - One of Diago's business partners, Johann was the one that put out the hit on Diago and the bounty on Talienda's head. He is working with Dalton Blackhorn to wrest the family fortune away from Talienda, and isn't above killing her to do it. He is an intimidating man at well over six feet tall and built more like a chiseled statue than any mere mortal. The only thing more well developed than his muscles is his ego. He believes that he cannot fail, and Talienda's escape is only a minor setback.

Hecka Heckles, CE Female Elf Rogue/Assassin - One of Johann's favored wetwork specialists, Hecka is an elf that grew up hard and fast on the streets of Absolom. She wasn't above killing, and rather enjoyed it, before a cult to Norgorber found her and tried to use her as a sacrifice in a deranged ritual. Things did not go as planned. The cultists were slaughtered by Hecka as her old name was wiped away and her mind broke. From that day forward, she became Hecka Heckles, mad elven assassin. Johann promised her a steady stream of interesting work, and he's lived up to his promise so far. She rarely misses her mark, but she is certain she will kill Talienda next time she sees the young woman.

Dekkard Cole, LG Male Human Priest of Iomedae - The younger brother of Rekkart Cole, Dekkard blames Talienda for the death of his brother during the Beldrin's Bluff Courthouse incident. Talienda was chased out of Absolom before he could track her down, but he has vowed to bring Talienda to justice and will stop at nothing to see his vow fulfilled. He is a stolid sort, with an inflexible will and uncompromising morals. How likely he is to listen to Talienda when he finds her is anyone's guess.

Build Notes:

Talienda is going to be mostly a blaster, but with some face skills and sneaky skills thrown in. Plan is to dip into bard for a level or two then go Sorcerer the rest of the way.

The 900 GP from Rich Parents represents all of the wealth that Talib was able to get out of her holdings at the Bank of Abadar on such short notice. Figured with Talienda running for her life, the notice would be very short.

Talienda has the sheltered drawback because that is exactly what she is. Up until a little over a month before the start of the adventure, she didn't even know that she had any magic powers.

Warning: There are spoilers for the module Hangman's Noose in Talienda's background. I can't avoid spoiling the end of the module since it has some pretty major developments for Talienda as a character.

Very long and juicy background. Funny thing is, I considered the Hangman's Noose for the lineup, but after reading it, I found it to be a little to investigative. I was worried it might be to slow for players and ended up removing it.

Anyway, the character looks good. I have a question regarding Alina. Is she someone you intend to leave behind when adventuring, or is she someone who you intend to participate? If it's the latter, assuming the character is accepted, you would need to provide a crunch for her. Secondly, is Echo simply a pet, or are you intending it to become a familiar?

1. Alina isn't supposed to be an adventurer. She's Talienda's friend, but she's supposed to be an attendant and lieutenant (in the original sense of the word) for Talienda. While I'm sure that Talienda going off and getting hurt during her adventures is going to worry Alina to no end, I didn't intend for her to be an NPC adventurer for Talienda. Basically, it'll be up to you as the GM if she winds up joining Tali on her adventures. I could see that happening if Talienda just barely makes it back alive from one.

2. Echo is Talienda's familiar. Tali is a Crossblooded sorceress with Elemental and Arcane bloodlines. I picked familiar for the Arcane Bond. Sorry if that wasn't clear in the background or the crunch.

Hangman's Noose is fun with the right group. I loved the play through I was lucky enough to be in a few years ago, and when this came up and I was reminded of the game recently thanks to one of the players (Chapel), I thought Talienda after the conclusion of the module would make for a good character to submit. I've reworked her a bit and changed the narrative some to clean it up, but it's essentially Talienda after we finished the module.

Talienda is definitely not the kind of character I'd bring to a murderfest. She's a good fit for games with some intrigue and lots of roleplay.

I am happy to hear that you like the background. I did try to give her a pretty varied rogues gallery that you could throw at us. I fully expect Tali's troubles to follow her to Magnimar from Absolom.

I probably missed the familiar part while focusing on the lush background. Anyway, I had suspected that was the intent even without noticing it. So, in regard to Alina, if your character moves forward, I suggest a basic crunch on her just in case something happens where her involvement is unavoidable. That way she can act and not just be a narrative victim of circumstance. I can tell, based on the character's background, that she is fairly important and might be involved more than a simple NPC would. It's fully understandable though, to see if she is selected before doing the extra work.

If Alina ever gets class levels majordomo investigator might be a good fit.

Still working on my bard. I should have it. Done this weekend.

Majordomo investigator seems to be right up Alina's alley, actually.

GM, give me the build rules and I'll whip up Alina's stats.

I'll work on getting an update to the submissions list sometime in the next 24 hours.

EmmmHmm, Let's see. How much are you paying her pr-day.

Hello, putting my hat into the ring with Muziel Moreau, a dwarven earth wizard! Details are in the alias. I did my best to keep within the listed sources and deviated only with respect to certain traits/drawbacks and dwarven racial traits, all of which are intended to fit with Muziel's character background. Happy to make any changes or answer any questions.

I think the applicants have been on the caster-heavy side but are distinct from each other; for example, Muziel is more of a controller while Taliena is more of a blaster.

Thanks for your consideration!

OK, wow, my first reaction WAS A FIRM NO when it come to the dark elf spell book and the dark elf encounter, etc, etc. The year is 4712 AD and the none-elven people of Golarion have only known about dark elves for three years, which happened in 4709 AD. After reading the full backstory, which was written extremely well BTW, I’ve changed my mind! The character is solid, and the backstory is well designed. There is nothing stating that, as a dwarf of Janderhoff, he couldn’t have actually had that rare experience. Just keep in mind, if Muziel is accepted into the game, your background is fare from common in the world. Any talk about a dark elf encounter will bring lots of attention. Not to mention a spell book that belonged to one of those guys. Anyway, your character is fully acceptable, which includes his traits and feats.

The reason I asked about her wage is because I believe it should reflect how good of a hireling she is. The more daily income, the better the stats, skills, etc, etc.

I'm guessing about 100gp/month, around 3gp/day.

Never really looked into that before, so I'm kinda flying blind here.

Here is a base chart on hirelings. If accepted , I would recommend starting with something like (3) silver a day. That would reflect non-hazardous pay. I could see her having a class level within the allowed content with a stipulation that she is not going on calculated adventures that would deliberately put her in harm's way (Mostly fluff). I would consider a low fantasy stat acceptable. A (10) point buy and a level progression that is 1/3 yours. In other words, she gains a level every time you gain three. So, when you hit (4) she turns (2). This is just off the top of my head, without doing too much reading. Oh, and her price doubles every time she levels. So, 6 sp a day at level 2, etc, etc.

Okay, that works for me.

I also kept the background relatively light, with just enough to give an idea of what she is to a sense. The idea was that background could be fleshed out through rp primarily.

I find your background to be acceptable. A lot of what makes a character shine is the group dynamic, the role-play, her personality, and her accomplishments.

Sovereign Court

At Adam's suggestion, I wanted to take a look.

GM, I have a character that I would like to submit but I wanted to ask about a source first. The character uses the Black Powder Vaulter archetype which comes from the Martial Arts Handbook.

This wouldn't happen to be a certain cyclopean gunman with an appropriately alliterative appellation, would it?

What? No. Why? Who?

Aw, darn. I was hoping see Mylock again.

Yeah! I know! I was being coy. That's absolutely who it is.

Yay! Do you want to make the Hangman's Noose game canon in your background as well? I can edit it to add Mylock in.

Sovereign Court

I wouldn't be opposed to that but I would also like to hold off for Nightfiend's response lol

Here is my character submission for Nightfiend's Golarion campaign. Meet Wayilant Arden, aasimar cleric of Cayden Cailean.

This will be Dorian Grey's work in progress.

Any questions, concerns, comments are welcomed.

Thank you for consideration!

I’m going to say no on the martial arts handbook. In general, I tend to lean away from firearms as a whole.

The character and background look good. If selected, I could see General Arden being involved with the Mendevian Crusade in some way. I’m ok with him tending bar for the Rusty flagon inn. That would give him some insight into its history, which I would provide at a later point.

Thank you, sir!

With that, I'm going to elect to not submit. You have a lot of really great characters to pick from already And I honestly don't have the mental capacity to come up with a brand new character again right now.

I hope you all have a really fun game!

Some math to help me with the background I'm working out . . ..

In 4712, Magnimar is 104 years old.

So, any human descended from a Founding Family should be roughly 5th generation since founding. Older characters could still be 4th generation and it is POSSIBLE for someone to be 6th generation and old enough to adventure, but their family would have had to reproduced faster than what we think of as standard.

Hunh. Random starting ages for Aasimar suggest a seriously extended youth, but they reach age categories at the same rate as humans. Maximum random age for a starting human rogue is 19. For an Aasimar, it is 44. Both reach Middle age at 35. Maximum random starting age for a Fighter is 21 for the human but 56 for the Aasimar, with Old Age settling in at 53. Heck, minimum random starting age for that Aasimar fighter is 26. For an alchemist the maximum random ages are 27 and 68, with the venerable age category starting at 70 . . .. I think the Aasimar starting ages assume a longer life span that was never included in the books anywhere else.

Meh. I'm not going to go with a random starting age, anyway. Guess I'll plan on being 4th generation, though . . ..

Now to pick a house. Already dropped it to 3 options. Deverin, Valdemar, or Versade. I like all 3 for different reasons. And, no, he's not going to be anywhere near in-line to become the family leader.

If I remember right, in the Blood of Angels splatbook it says that aasimar born of humans live as long as half-elves or elves, can't really remember.

Personally, I think most of the starting ages and younger age ranges for the longer lived races are kinda dumb and tend to ignore them. I could go on and on about it and how it makes no sense, along with a lot of other gripes I have about the system. I won't, though, and spare y'all the wall of text.

All three houses have interesting histories. It will be intriguing to see what you come up with. As fare as age goes, there is nothing dictating that average age is required. I could see an older or younger age depending on their life scrips.

I posted this up in the [Interest Check] thread and though I would post it here as well in case it helps with timelines and background creation. It's an interesting tool. To move the timeline, click it and drag it.

Which means Cirok needs to allow for his initial 16 years....elves!

Aasimar and Tiefling ages are not presented correctly on the published tables. In both cases age progressions are the same has the mortal parent's race. There was an errata published it seems, but few people ever see those.
