Doctor Toxic Remember you have an advance available. The group is now Novice 2.

Everyone With the advance comes the option to add an upgrade to the lair. Take a look at SPC3 pg 24-26 to get the details.

As far as upgrades Exotic Location will take a decent story and the Teleportation upgrade does not exist...yet.

Basic security like Karma was talking about will come along with the Self-Sufficient, Security Team, Hidden Entrance, Command Center, Brig, Base Defenses, or Advanced Firewalls upgrades.

Since we are advancing at an accelerated rate and each advance comes with a chance to upgrade the Lair, I'm ret-conning a team of OMEGA cleared construction folks who have been working on the place for a couple of months. The fruits of their labor will come online as you choose upgrades.

Note. Since you now have a work crew you can use an upgrade to remove the Crumbling complication.

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Should we voice our opinions on what upgrade we want here, or do you want us to role-play it in character?

Neither of Karma's suggestions are covered by the upgrade options. Can we create our own upgrades, or modify the details of existing one to what we want (like Trappings)? Like, Security Team could be a set of video cameras connected to the base computer, with software that detects moving objects, identifies them as humanoid or not, and sounds an alert when a humanoid object comes too close to the building.

And...you stressed option - what happens if we don't take the option? Do we get something else instead?

Alertness is never a bad option.

For the base, perhaps eliminating crumbling with some general repair?

I would vote for the Advanced Firewalls, Security Team, and Command Center, in that order.

I just looked at the V-map mission options. If we go with the moderate priority, we should think about how we can start looking for the 'Doghouse'. Karma can do her networking with streetwise. Someone with good research skills could perhaps try to find Internet mentions of the Doghouse to give her some leads on where to start.

Karma would be more motivated to look for the serial killer, however, just because she is driven to get vengeance of such scum (two of her hindrances). She would approach this by finding out who the killer killed and looking for clues at the locations of the murders.

Psiclops wrote:

Either, or both.

See my post just above the one I am replying to. "Basic security like Karma was talking about will come along with the Self-Sufficient, Security Team, Hidden Entrance, Command Center, Brig, Base Defenses, or Advanced Firewalls upgrades." Basically any security related upgrade can add the kind of things Karma was talking about.

Like nearly everything in Savage Worlds the upgrade options are just suggestions. Pitch a different idea to the group and see what they think. If it too out there at the moment I'll stick my oar in but, except for teleportation I am not pre-ruling anything out.

Psiclops wrote:

Nope like the candyman says "You get nothing!". You do not get the upgrade but you also do not get the secret complication that comes with it. So swings and roundabouts I suppose.

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Ah, I forgot about the secret complication...

Can you give us some idea of the magnitudes of the secret complications? Minor inconvenience to major story sub-plot threat we suddenly have to deal with? Or have you already (I have a terrible memory)?

Third rule of Librarianship: You don't need to know things, you just need to know where to find them.

Check page 26 in the SPC3. Most of these encounters/complications do not apply to this setting so I am applying creativity and a bit of violence to make them fit. But they should give you and idea of the scale of issue you might be dealing with.

That help?

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Yep, thanks!

Any ideas on a Lair upgrade if any?

Karma, Savant going shopping?

Anything you want to do as down time ends?

Rank 2 |Bennies: 2 | Current Card: TBD | Active: Speak Language, Heighten Senses, armor (10) | Toughness 6 (10) | | Map floor 4

What's the answer to Savant's question about funds? Since the upgrade is allowed by the lair, can we assume we have the funds to purchase the security equipment?

Can Karma use her persuasion ability plus streetwise to try to get a better deal, maybe something higher quality than what could otherwise be afforded?

I'd be inclined to go to the Shops location, unless one of the local sources is connected to the Family. She believes it will be good to try to become allies of the Family or at least help them with their struggle with the slashers.

Assuming Karma and Savant do the shopping, Karma will use her illusion ability to disguise herself.

If you take one of the upgrades mentioned earlier then the security gear is free. If you do not take an upgrade or take one not on the list then you will need to pay for it. Cost will be about $5k for new hardware or $2.5k for salvaged. This is before any negotiation/persuasion etc.

We haven't had much discussion about what upgrade to take. I've made some suggestions, but we'll need more from the other players to make a decision.

Karma wrote:

I agree. And it is looking like we may have lost Imagine. Atlas appears to have gone silent in late July.

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

I'm for taking Security Team and trapping it as the cameras, sensors, and program to alert us to anyone coming near the building as I suggested above, and what Karma elaborated on in her recent player post. Then there's no need to talk about money. I assume something as big as an Upgrade would allow us to get everything Karma asked for in her player post (and maybe more, or at least new, high-end equipment)?

Altho if there's a camera in my personal room I'll turn it off and leave it off...or maybe even blast it. :)

Atlas has only disappeared for a long time several years ago, but was gone for like a year or two. Hope whatever he's going thru resolves itself quickly...

I'm good with going upgrade to get security system. If shopping for that stuff is good for adventures or world building, let's do that. If not, we can montage it and move on.

Rank 2 |Bennies: 2 | Current Card: TBD | Active: Speak Language, Heighten Senses, armor (10) | Toughness 6 (10) | | Map floor 4

Suggestions on the next mission to attempt?

For convenience, here's the text of the moderate priority one:

Message from Dr. Destruction begins: “MindJack’s information has confirmed some persistent rumors. The V’sori are creating a new drone-hound that can track meta-humans. Identifying meta-humans is a complex problem but even a partial success would devastate Omega if these drones can be mass produced. The exact location of the lab is unknown. However, thanks to MindJack and several interviews with invader operatives we know two things. First the lab is called the ‘Doghouse’ among the human quislings who help supply it. Second, the lab is in Southpoint or Downtown. Find the lab, destroy the prototypes, kill every researcher you find there, and burn the place to the ground. I want nothing left.” Message ends.

I suggest we begin with research and networking rolls, looking for leads on the location of the 'Doghouse.'

I like it. Find it and kill it are goals I can get as a player. Savant will be a mess, but that is the fun.

I will be attending a Steampunk convention this weekend. I will likely have Internet and a laptop so I'll try to check to see if any posts are needed, but I won't have a lot of time for involved posting.

So have you decided on an upgrade if any for this advance?

We waiting on Karma to start pokinf at a new mission or other action. I am ready for whatever you want to do. Also open to Solo jaunts. Nothing says you cant do multiple missions at once.....

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

So far no one's suggested anything other than a security system, which 3 people have said they'd like to have.

Trapping the Security Team option to be equipment seems to be the best option (to get high-quality equipment), IMHO. And no one's said otherwise...

Come to think of it, there's only been 4 players posting lately. I know Atlas is MIA, how many other players are there currently supposed to be in the game?

Yup the only players left are Doctor Toxic, Karma, Psyclops, and Savant. I refreshed the recruitment thread but no bites so far.

So any unity on the upgrade if any?

It looks like you are all orbiting one of Self-Sufficient, Security Team, Hidden Entrance, Command Center, Brig, Base Defenses, or the Advanced Firewalls upgrade.

Karma seems to have voted no on Security Team.

Let me know.

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Ok, so discussion about the security system...

3 out of 4 of us have voted for some kind of security, with Doc Toxic voting to remove the Crumbling penalty.

PWGM said that it would cost $2500-5000 for equipment. Do we even have that much money? How much money do we have? I suggested that we sell the weapons we got from the last job, but no one followed up on that...

Karma, is there any reason you don't want to use the upgrade for a (probably) state-of-the-art security system? It does come with a pretty stiff complication, but that just adds spice to the game.

Important note: The Security system comes free with a related upgrade. I just need to know what upgrade you are piggybacking the system on to.

Defenses or Self Sufficient would be my pics (with security attached).

And I think we had a direction for what we were doing investigation/plot direction.

By the way, PWGM, Everyman is a much better name for Savant than Savant. I'll stick with Savant, but as a hero Everyman would be the perfect name.

Hi folks, happy to be here. It's a bit late for me now, but I'll put together the details of Gilgamesh tomorrow

PWGM wrote:

Well, that changes everything.

I would vote for Defenses.

"Savant" wrote:

Savant is a great name for your character 'Everyman' is more the name for your type of character. Like 'Brick' is for a strong/tough type or 'Blaster' for Pciclops.

Besides "Everyman" is taken. They are an early Cap America foe in Marvel and a more recent Green arrow foe in DC.

For getting The Super Powers Companion Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (AKA SPC3), and the Necessary Evil Players guide, where did you folks get them? Did you get the PDF's from the publisher?

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Yes. If you buy them from the publisher, you can download updated PDF's for free for eternity.

Their website is : https://peginc.com/

Yup that is the best place. I think they might be on drivethru as well but I recommend getting them direct. Esp the NE guide.

Upgrade

Doc: remove crumbling
Karma: No to security team, yes to Advanced Firewalls or Command Center
Savant:Base Defenses or Self Sufficient
Psiclops: Base Defenses

Any emerging consensus here?

Cell name
Fugu/Torafugu is the only proposal so far. Going with that?

Note: Unlike with the upgrade consensus is not needed here. Anyone can simply enter a name into V-MAP and it will be accepted. You might be able to change it later but you all have equal access here.

I realized the books I had were out of date, so I have acquired the more recent ones. Any tips or things I should know as I start building?

Gilgamesh wrote:

Dont worry about getting the newest NE-invasion book. The players guide you want looks like this

Rambling advice and notes:

.Take a look at the Campaign page especially the spoiler marked [/b]"Character generation guidelines, setting rules and advice, Gear."[/b]

This has the setting rules including the ones impacting character generation.

.Play close attention to the notes on Edges/Hindrances because some things have changed. For example in this setting Secret Identity is only a minor hindrance.

.Build the character as a novice and then add 2 advances and 5 extra power-points. Make sure that what you spent those 5 points on can be identified and reversed. It is unlikely but those points can be lost.

.Read the notes on Bloodthirsty and Wanted hindrances if you are considering either of them.

.There is no New Powers edge. You will get 15 power points as play progresses but more than that is unlikely. So build the character you want to be rather than something that you expect to grow over time.

.There are (probably to many) notes on gear. Remember you start with $1000. You may want to spend as much of this as you can because prices change as soon as you enter play. Some go down but most go up.

.Please note if you are wearing your OMEGA communicator or keeping it elsewhere.

.When creating your character keep track of what you can do/what your stats are without your superpowers. The V'sori have access to nullifer tech.

.Have a spoiler or other area under your alias where you track changes to your character. Advances and things like that. The goal is to be able to easily rewind your character to any point of their development.

.General design advice. I find it helpful when building supers in a point based system to take the total starting point total and divide it into 3 equal-ish piles in this game that is 15/pile. One is used for offensive abilities, one for defensive, and one for everything else. You are not restricted to these totals but knowing that you are taking points from say general to go over on offense gives me at least the chance to pause and make sure that moving those points in what you really want to do.
Mind you you can still build highly specialized one trick pony characters but this idea helps me to be aware of the choices I am making.

.Be careful if you choose to have a d4 attribute. I will exploit it.
.Be careful if you choose to take the Device modifier on any powers. At some point you will loose the device.
I am adding these notes so that you are not surprised/feel picked on when these things happen.

And finally remember that the V'sori are smart and they fight dirty.

Karma
We will likely need a map covering 3 floors of an office building and the roof. Size and design are up to you but it will need clean rooms/labs and some large empty-ish rooms. I found this that might be useful. but anything is great.

Everyone
And since I failed to do introductions. Welcome to Gilgamesh. They will be joining play shortly. No need to wait for them though so keep posting away.

I like Torafugu as the Cell name.

I am not overly attached to any particular upgrade.

3 Bennies Parry 5/14, Toughness 6/16, RATN 4/13;

Ok, let's try this : does anyone object to Base Defenses (along with a security system like Karma wants)? Speak now or forever hold your peace!

Ok, I think I have everthing. Haven't made many Savage Worlds character sheets, there is the chance I missed something, so I hope you don't mind reviewing for me. And as I write this I realize that there are probably a few things I need to double-check. Sorry it's taken a while, there's already been a lot of double-checking on my end, but I do think it's pretty much done

Karma is not so much opposed to the concept of a security team, but would prefer it be non-personal, accomplished through smart systems with perhaps computer controlled weapon mounts.

But before that, she would want the firewall so it will be harder to hack the system to try to use it to spy on us or attack us.

What are base defenses? Can it be trapped so no outside personnel be used?

Another loose end we maybe should tie up (correct me if I'm wrong). We need to designate a location for our base on the map.

I suggested we use the location marked Hazel Cannery, mostly because it's easy to find on the map and generally in the area we are working in.
