So what does this jet rat look like and how big is it? A black statue of a rat made of jet I presume.

And derros ... deep dwarves if I'm not mistaken. Gonna need darkvision as well I suspect

"A small, shiny black rat statue is the best description I can give of the artifact," replies the Venture Captain. Themis answers patiently, carefully, and spends a great deal of time thinking about her answer before giving it. "As for the derros, they are indeed dangerous. But, Arieta never saw more than a handful together. Pathfinders of your stature should be able to easily dispatch them and recover the artifact."

Nightkit wrote:

The recovery is not as quick as she would like, but Nightkit eventually overcomes the filth fever. In the weeks that follow between trips to and from Absalom and Cassomir, Nightkit regains her full abilities.

"You’re Pathfinders, not stumbling fool adventurers. I’m sure you’ll use your wits, skills, and brains to figure that out for yourself where Arieta was held.”

Venturing into the Cassomir Sewers, you find that they are large, vaulted affairs with tile ceilings, brick walls, stone walkways, and make-shift wooden bridges.

Knowledge (local)(DC12):
The current Cassomir sewers are actually the third incarnation of a sewer system beneath Cassomir. As the newest, they are a bit more spacious and accommodating than its predecessors.

The sewer waterway itself is a combination of rain water, tidal salt water from the harbor, human and animal waste, and the city’s other refuse. The water is 10 feet deep and moves rapidly, advancing anyone who falls into it 5 feet per round toward the east and south. The water in most places is 5 feet below the level of the adjacent walkways.

The sewers are completely unlit and you will need to provide your own illumination.

Opening a sewer grate at street level during the day, allows sunlight to enter the otherwise completely dark room below. As a result, the room has dim illumination.

Murky puddles dot the tile floor below, which gently slopes toward the room’s center where some of the puddles are very slowly draining into a large, 10-foot-by-10-foot drain. Thick, sticky webs cover most of the corners of the room, and several large vermin appear to be caught in the webs. The sound of running water can be heard to the north.
Map now revealed on Slides.

Among the dire rat corpses in the webs is the bloodless corpse of a derro.

Despite the dim light, the sharp-eyed Seebonickk spots a giant spider that is 20 feet off the ground in the northwest corner of the room!

Knowledge (nature) (DC 13):

Okay, let's see if we can get back up to pace...

Thank you for placing PC tokens. I have moved Ashtoret's token "up" on street level to give line of sight on the spider and I have moved both Seebonick and Theron "down" into the chamber, placing each next to Menudo updating their positions on the Map.

As the numbers of potential meals within the chamber grows, the spider (shock!) strikes! It shoots a line of webbing, hoping to ensnare the nearest target, Theron.
Ranged (web) v touch, range: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 14

I honestly don't know how people move things around on this *&^$ing slide system. I also don't understand why people don't just use Roll20, even for pbp. Anyway, since I can't move myself, I want to move north, north, north, then northeast. Drawing, then throwing, a throwing axe as I go.

I have yet to find a perfect VTT. As for Slides, I am a creature of habit, I suppose, and find it the better/more accessible method for me than any other I have tried for PbP games, including Roll20. I have moved some of the overlays that are no longer necessary and "re-pasted" the PCs to the top "layer", which should help ease navigation for you all, at least somewhat.

Each Pathfinder misses their mark. The spider is unscathed.

Merida is clearly hurt, but not frightened at all. She angrily shakes off the poison and 5-foot-steps back. (hopefully out of reach)

Updated on Map.

Menudo misses.

Though some of the splashing acid hits the creature.

@GM Valen: Shouldn't the spider have more damage? Ashtoret hit it for 4 damage with her ready action...

Oops. Correct.

But moot.

Merida's second shot drops the spider instantly.

COMBAT OVER

The derro that the giant spider killedstill carries the following
gear: 2 potions of cure moderate wounds, leather armor, short sword, and a repeating light crossbow with 10 poisoned bolts, perhaps with spider venom.

Anyone attempting to remove the poison sack must succeed at a DC 20 Heal check or the poison sack is irreparably damaged.

Anyone who wishes to check out the grate in the center of the floor of the room may attempt a Perception check.

Beyond the chamber lies the rest of the sewer, which consist of large, vaulted affairs with tile ceilings, brick walls, stone walkways, and make-shift wooden bridges. The sewers are completely unlit.
PCs will need to provide their own illumination.
The sewer grates at the end of each “dead end” lead to smaller and smaller pipes that eventually connect to the storm drains throughout Cassomir.

The sewer waterway itself is a combination of rain water, tidal salt water from the harbor, human and animal waste, and the city’s other refuse. The water is 10 feet deep and moves rapidly.
Advancing anyone who falls into it 5 feet per round toward the east and south.

The water in most places is generally 5 feet below the level of the adjacent walkways. All along the waterway, however, there are well-maintained ladders recessed into the wall, spaced every 10 feet or so The sound of running water throughout the sewers causes a –4 penalty to all sound-based Perception checks.

At the sewer junctions, the gaps between the waterways are bridged by makeshift wooden structures, nothing more than a few thick beams tossed across the sewage.

Anyone moving normal speed can cross these bridges without any trouble—crossing them at any faster speed requires a DC 15 Acrobatics check to avoid falling into the water. PCs who fail this check can make a DC 15\ Reflex save to catch the bridge as they fall; otherwise they splash into the water below.

More of the map is now revealed on Slides. Feel free to move your tokens accordingly.

Merida. It was fantastic. Ashtoret looks at the archer with the sincere admiration of a little girl.

Can I assume that outside of a combat situation I calmly secured the rope with knots and took 10 for climb?

Nightkit steps over and cuts Theron out of the webbing, sighing I hardly ever get a chance to show off on adventure ... by the way ... can you play the lute?

Yeah ... Merida ... you go girl ....

She then goes into 'hide and sneak mode' checking the corners ahead.

@party: None of us seem to have ranks in Heal (but I do not have access to Menudo's character sheet). Therefore, the one with the best chance to succeed at a DC 20 Heal check to remove the poison sack is actually our fighter Theron.
@GM Valen: Would it be possible to try and aid on that check? For example, looking over his shoulder and telling him where to (not) cut?

"Thanks, everyone. Still, that dumb bug got me good. I think I need to buy a helmet!"

Merida stows her bow, draws her wand of infernal healing and tries to activate it.

She uses the time until the spell is finished healing her (=10 rounds) to check out the grate in the center of the floor.

Merida then stows her wand of infernal healing and draws her wand of CLW.

The only time I've used a lute was to bash some idiot over the head in a brawl a while back. I figured I can make a few coins if I tell a skald the strings were made from spider guts. Theron says as he cuts himself out of the web. He nods to Merida.

Nice shot...remind me to not get in the way when you're shooting, yeah? he says with a wink. He eyes the stuff the derro left behind.

Sword is a good backup...never seen a crossbow like this...anybody know how to use it? he scratches his head as he looks it over.

Oh..wait...it loads itself? Must be gnomish.

I'll wait till Menudo is on to see if he can salvage the sac...

Nightkit grins when Theron describes how he 'plays' the lute.

Spider silk makes good rope too she comments.

Yes.

Yes, since anyone may attempt a Heal check untrained. I am fine with everyone aiding, if they wish.

It certainly brings new meaning to the phrase, "lute the bodies".

Nightkit wrote:

But Nightkit knows that such crafting a process that would take considerable time, particularly as the silk needs to dry at the proper temperature.

The rest of the sewers await. Please feel free to attempt any skil lchecks and move your tokens accordingingly. Also, please indicate which PCs have a light source (and what it is).
