Lin Ki Chin |
"Missiles away!" Ki Chin shouts as the spell erupts from his wand. Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
GM Lupulus |
Ki Chin, Kiyoko, and Sakura's horse combine to take down the last raider in the immediate area.
The battle is waning as the sounds of clashing blades and shouts begin to slow. You have a few moments to get any healing or buffs back up, and probably want to withdraw inside the walls to regroup and take stock of the situation. The battle is not over, but at least in your area you can catch your breath.
-> Elemenar
-> Kiyoko
-> Sakura
-> Ki Chin (-1)
-> To-to (-21)
You don't have to worry about the villagers as they are taking care of themselves admirably with your preparations. Take up to 2 rounds for whatever healing or buffs you need. Just post what you want to do those two rounds if anything. If you just want to move yourself back within what remains of the barricades please post so.
To-to-obika |
To-to heals himself as he is only one who is severely wounded.

Sakura Kian Fane |
Sakura looks at the barricade and the villagers.
“You are all brave!! You are defending your home!! Let us show them that we don’t bow to bullies!!“ she shouts.
She then waits patiently and attentively.
Kiyoko Tamahi |
Kiyoko circles her horse back around to block the remainder of the fallen barricade.
Lin Ki Chin |
"Hai ya." Ki Chin lets out a soft sigh as he looks himself over. "All good here. Just a slight burn. I am lucky they have lousy swordsmanship and they are barely passable riders." Dusting himself off the magus readies his wand to shoot at the next wave.
GM Lupulus |
To-to gets some healing and the party moves inside the town again as the fighting quiets down on your north front.
In the aftermath of the battle, a hush pervades the village; a few cheers erupt but are quickly muffled by those wise enough to know the fighting is not yet done. For the most part, the farmers prepare themselves for further combat; their fallen comrades are respectfully moved away from battleground, crossbows are reloaded, and what repairs can be made to the barricades are attempted. This prudence is soon proved correct; from the eastern edge of the village, a low growling sound grows in volume. Suddenly, a loud crash comes from another barricade, panicked villagers come running from that direction. “A demon! The crows have brought a demon down upon us!” one of the farmers screams, throwing his spear down as he runs.
Through what has turned out to be the weakest flank of the village's defenses has crashed a massive owlbear, far larger than a normal one. It has taken out several villagers and sets its bloodthirsty eyes on the party.

Owlbear

Ride check to avoid damage from AoO, if necessary: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Kiyoko brings her horse around to close with the owlbear. Thumbing her katana an inch out of its saya, she clears the blade of its sheath with blinding speed in an iaijutsu quick-draw that leaves a sizeable gash in the abomination's hide.
"Bears are bears, and owls are owls! This is no demon!" she calls. "Stand your ground!" Even as she shouts the rallying cry, she thinks to herself, What IS that thing?!
Swift action to challenge, full-round action to iaijutsu strike--horse's move action will bring her in range. Kiyo's AC is currently 14 for the next round, but she has DR 2/- against the owlbear.
Lin Ki Chin |
"Pew, pew beast!" A bolt of magic leaves Ki Chin's wand heading to the owlbear.
Magic missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
A look of surprise appears on the magus' face. "What did I just say?"
Sakura Kian Fane |

GM Lupulus |
Fort: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
The owlbear is unaffected by Elemenar's gaze, But the missile and blades are devastating. The creature remains upright but is beyond bloodied, and continues to assail its chosen prey - Sakura.

claw: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 1 = 30 Damage: 1d8 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 1 = 11
The creature's claws rend Sakura and she drops and starts to bleed out.
With its foe fallen, the owlbear moves on to a new target. It seems completely uninterested in attacking To-to, perhaps the wild creature is trained just enough to not attack Tengus?
It snaps its beak at the second samurai, Kiyoko!

ROUND 1
Owlbear (-57)
-> Ki Chin (-1)
-> Elemenar
-> To-to (-3)
-> Kiyoko (-12)
-> Sakura (-41, so bleeding out with -8 HP)
Sakura is slumped over the side of her horse, in desperate need of healing! The beast is brutal, but appears near its own death!
Everyone is up! *except Sakura, who is down, but may have things to do on her turn anyway.
Kiyoko Tamahi |
Ride to direct her horse to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Horse attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Horse dmg: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Recalling that her “borrowed” horse was of the same stock as the other horses the tengu bandits ride, and thus probably combat-trained, Kiyoko attempts to goad it into attacking the owlbear. (If the horse isn’t actually combat-trained, she won’t attempt this.)
The samurai then switches to a two-handed grip on her ancestral katana and slashes at the owlbear.
Kiyoko’s AC is now 18.
GM Lupulus |
Kiyoko's slash finishes the beast. The massively oversized owlbear collapses to the ground with a resounding thud.
If you want to know more about it you can make an Knowledge (Nature) check.
Take a moment for healing, especially of the fallen Sakura.
I will wait on action from the injured and the healer - Kiyoko, Sakura, To-to.
Sakura Kian Fane |
Sakura slowly opens her eyes.
“Arghh … that … that creature hit hard. Thanks for saving me everyone!!“ she says and looks at the whole team with a rare smile.
She pets her steed and looks around at the carnage.
Kiyoko Tamahi |
Kiyoko clears her blade of owlbear blood with a chiburui slash and gazes off in the direction the beast came from. The barricade over there was ruined, debris strewn about liberally nearby. “We are not finished here, I think,” she observes. The white-haired sword saint resheathes her katana and produces a wand, which she passes to To-to.
“Onegai,” she says. “If you please.”
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
If To-to uses her wand of Cure Light Wounds on her, that should put her at full HP again.
Sakura Kian Fane |
Sakura nods to Kiyoko.
She also gives To-to her wand so he can heal her.
clw : 6d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 8, 8, 2, 1, 3) + 6 = 33
GM Lupulus |
Battle is still happening, mostly from that eastern front where the owlbear crashed in. Some villagers lie dead in various places, but that eastern breach seems to have been a weak point and is heavily targetted by the tengus.
To-to heals up the party so everyone is full, except for Sakura who has 1 HP. You can have two more rounds of healing before the next initiative rolls.
GM Lupulus |
A bloodthirsty screech erupts from beyond the barricade. Several more tengu break through, trampling over and past villagers who still stand in defense. Cheers from outside, the tengu calling the name "Kwankhonu" in support of their apparent leader. The so-called general rides not a horse, but a fearsome axebeak. Setting eyes on the outsiders who have foiled his plans, he and three bandits have broken through the line and charge in. One is tripped up by one of Elemenar's traps, and villagers quickly finish him as the bandit falls, and another stalwart pair of defenders sets their spears and impales another bandit who had broken through. Only the general and one of his soldiers remain inside heading your way

Mount's move action to get her in range, then her own swift action to challenge and full-round action to Iaijutsu Strike.
Kiyoko's AC is currently 17 against the leader if she is only adjacent to one target, and 14 against everyone else, until her next turn. She also has DR2/- against the tengu bandit leader.
HP 33/40
Kiyoko Tamahi |
*facepalm* I just realized I didn’t add in the damage bonus for Power Attack again. So that’s another 8 damage from the critical hit to Kwankhonu, for a total of 44 from me.
To-to-obika |
To-to finishes a short prayer, which makes a faint glow emanate from him momentarily. He immediately sprints closer to fight. Shield spell, AC 22 now
GM Lupulus |
It's been long enough that To-to's prayer spell is down. Kiyoko's crit is not confirmed, so it is a normal hit, but with power attack so that's 24 damage I believe.
Kiyoko realizes as she her little horse rears up right next to the bandit leader, that she is not adjacent to just one enemy. The axebeak is a formidable foe itself. (so Kiyoko AC 16 vs boss, 14 vs others I think, correct me if I'm mistaken

Kiyoko Tamahi |
Immediate action: use the Ride skill to use Kiyoko’s mount as cover for a +4 AC bonus.
Ride, DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
With her AC at 20, it looks like Kwankhonu’s bite misses, which reduces the damage taken total by 7 and leaves Kiyoko conscious with 3 hp remaining. I don’t know if that changes the axe beak’s action or not. Heck, maybe her sliding down the side of the horse for cover would make the tengu leader think she was sliding off it unconscious xD
Kiyoko leans away from the tengu general’s attacks, using her borrowed horse for cover.
GM Lupulus |
Yeah the mount attacks his target, so the axebeak bite would down Kiyoko instead.
Kiyoko's cover protects her from the general's bite, but she meets the axebeak's bite instead. At least her horse is unharmed.
