I'll try the barricades again.

Elemenar can't believe how poorly the villagers follow instructions. When trying to flood the fields he kept directing the villagers but they ignored him. Rather than wasting another frustrating day, Elemenar returns to the barricade. Maybe, without the villagers in the way, he can make heads or tails of what's going on.

To-to, Sakura, and Ki Chin all help out in scouting the area, and are able to pin down with great confidence that the attack will come a day earlier than first anticipated, and will be on day 9. You are certain that this is the actual day that the attack will come, but one more successful day of scouting will further help nail down time of arrival, better estimates on numbers, armaments, and the like.

The villagers in the fields finish flooding them. This will slow their approach, tire troops and mounts, and limit their angles of attack. +2 Defense Points.

With a sufficient compliment on the barricades, and Elemenar getting some time to work alone on the barricades form previous days' work, the barricades make good progress. The improvements are nearly a third complete. Elemenar's continued involvement means that if he keeps helping on the barricades he can make a Craft (Traps) or Disable Device check on barricade completion, but only if he stays on this task until the end. Elemenar feels like if the pace of today keeps up, it will be done in two more days of work.

- Archers can still take 2 days of training, and then can craft arrows with PC assistance.
- Melee troops can receive a total of 5 days worth of training (in parallel) with one unit capable of the advanced training from a successful intimidate or prof soldier check.
- The barridcades take 30 villagers still, but can be sped up either with more villagers or Elemenar's successful checks, and if Elemenar stays on the barricades until completion he can at the end make a check for trapping the barricades.
- One more scouting success would be helpful.

Day 6 Summary:

Kiyoko finishes drilling the archery team. These 10 can now use their crossbows for the defense as well as can be expected in this small window. They can increase their effectiveness further by crafting arrows, under guidance of a PC making a Craft (Bows) check with the 10 archers.

To-To does not find any new useful information in scouting. More success is possible, but the check is high.

Ki Chin delivers more training to the infantry. Its effective, though not overly inspiring work. No more bonus checks are possible, but 2 more days of training will still improve some of the melee units. Or 1 day with 2 PCs doing the work. No checks needed, just a PC for each 10 villagers.

Elemenar, Sakura, and 30 villagers are decently productive on the barricades. wo more days are still needed at this rate, though one extremely productive day would perhaps suffice.

At the end of the day Elemenar examines his handiwork. The barricades are coming along but he still shakes his head. If the villagers had been more helpful he could have finished this days ago. But that is the way of things. The next day he again focuses on directing the villagers.

Sakura works with the archers to make more ammunition, and of a higher quality than the villagers otherwise would have.

Much of the party helps scout, along with 10 of the villagers. They can't get any new information helpful to the defense, but do confirm that the attack will be tomorrow.

@Elemenar since Disable Device is trained-only and craft is not, the craft is the only one you can make anyway.

The barricade improvements are finally in place. Elemenar's tireless efforts and sometimes-successfull leadership have resulted in the integration of traps throughout.

That is the final day of the defensive preparations. Tomorrow the attack will commence, but in game and in real life.

You will take point in the battle to come. The village and its defenses won't be part of the initiative and rounds of combat, but have the effect of reducing the enemies that you all have to face, and give you a pool of bonus that you can add to your own rolls. 17 defense points grants each of you your own separate pool of defense points to use on your own rolls. At any time, a PC may choose to spend a number of these points as an immediate action. They can be added to any single attack or damage roll, ability or skill check, saving throw, or can be used to grant the PC a dodge bonus to his AC. Points used only apply to a single roll. More than 1 point may be spent on a roll, with a maximum equal to the character level of the PC. A player must decide to use his Defense Points in this way when he announces his action and before he makes the roll the bonus will apply to.

Elemenar looks over the barricade to where the enemy is expected to approach from. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

The day has been long and tense, as Nesting Swallow finds itself waiting for the sword to fall. Villagers spend shifts keeping watch over the hastily erected, crude bamboo walls surrounding their village, and constant reports of the enemy riders’ movements filter back and forth between the barricades. As the sun sinks below the western hills, the sharper-eyed among those manning the barricades report a number of riders forming into groups along the roads; these reports are soon proved true as the sound of hammering hooves comes out of the twilight, and the dusk erupts with tengu warriors riding toward the village. And so the battle begins.

The attacks are somewhat restricted as the tengu have limited options for approach from the flooded fields.

This first round the riders are just charging toward the gate, consider them still about 50 feet off the map.

The barricades are 6 feet tall, so provide a lot of cover if you are behind them. Uou can stand on top of them, which would lose your cover but let you melee anyone right on the other side with a +1 to attack for the high ground. Sakura, being atop your horse means you have no cover from archers.

There are villagers on the map, but they essentially are handled through events and you don't have to worry about them or their positioning. Attacks are happening from all directions, you only need to concern yourselves with the north at this point.

Arrows fly over the gate from the tengu, targeting anyone on the barricades, but the town's archers are returning fire.

You can each take a turn now, and on this round take a couple extra move actions to get where you would want to be or cast an extra buff, but only get one attack against the tengu if you so choose. We are on the map on slide 6.

Elemenar moves to where he can peer over the barricade. The invaders are conveniently grouped together. He makes some gestures and speaks a few magic words then a small bead of orange flame shoots from his finger towards the horse and rider in the middle back.

If it wasn't clear, the barricades are essentially solid and you have to climb atop them to shoot anything, unless you are on a horse like Sakura.

Elemenar, do you climb on top of the barricades for that fireball? It's too tall to peer over.

Kiyoko is actually going to ride the horse she took when we defeated the tengu bandits before arriving in the village.

As the bandits approach, the Tian-Min sword saint unshoulders her shortbow. Kiyoko then coaxes her 'borrowed' horse nearer to the northern barricade. Nocking an arrow to her bow, she sends it flying at the nearest of the bandits.

Looks like it should be a DC 5 Climb check to get up top from your side, but i think you can take 10 on it until enemies get like on or through the wall. Regardless, Elemenar is good on this one. Sakura you don't need to help if you'd rather shoot a bow or something.

Elemenar's fireball lights up the battlefield, blasting two of the tengu riders off their steeds, dead, leaving the other three wounded.

Kiyoko's shot from horseback misses badly, but her training of the local villagers pays off as some of them find their marks and finish off two of the fireball survivors. (Defense points you and the village earned have resulted in killing off two of the tengu in your zone)

One injured rider remains.
