Esgean Eyre (Alias of Therenger) Human Female Druid 1
Therenger Thank you for that. stock Druid is still a very powerful force on its own. As much as I enjoy the Wizard class, I think Druid takes the full caster cake. Let alone they are full battle ready with the 3/4 BAB & animal companion.
Very true! In that spirit I did not try to over-optimize this character. She is battlefield control/buff + Animal Companion and summoned allies to support the front line fighters, providing flanking and a meat shield.
Crunch is mostly complete in the Profile; I'll be adding stats for her Bobcat shortly and then add flesh with personality, appearance, backstory and character goals later tonight.

Esgean Eyre |

Esgean is mostly complete and just needs a few odds and ends and polish. The following elements are also included in her profile.
Appearance
Willowy and tall with a bramble of fiery red hair, Esgean looks older than her fifteen years. She is fair but odd, and the young men of Kassen her age shy away from her. Some of that has to do with the wild cat that is always at her side. She has acquired a simple hide vest and chooses to wear skirts made of woven vines and leaves. She is usually barefoot, having learned how to step carefully.
Personality
Esgean is proud and occasionally brash, but her heart is good and true. She does not make friends easily, but she would give her life for her family and those she counts among her close group of confidants.
Goals
To be a better steward of the natural world, and to defend it from darkness.
Esgean shuddered before answering her younger brother. "Vultures, probably." The pale corpse floated idly at river's edge, face down. A tear in the flesh from shoulder to hip festered in the cold water.
Gael brushed always-dirty hair away from his eyes. "Have you ever seen a dead man before?" He seemed to Esgean to be strangely calm.
She swallowed bile and looked about for a large stick, finding one a few paces off at forest's edge. With it she pushed the bloated figure away from shore back into the current. The pair watched it float away in silence.
"We should go home and tell Daa."
Esgean pursed her lips. "We haven't caught anything yet. We can't go home without fish or we won't eat. Come on, we'll catch nothin' here."
She led her brother upriver another mile before casting her line among the rocks in the quicker action in the middle of the current. There, the Tourondel narrowed and the waters rushed over large round stones where trout waited for smaller prey. Her hands trembled, her mind fixed on the dead body. But then she felt the familiar tug on the end of her line. The fish leapt from the water, a good catch that would feed her entire family for the night.
"Esgean!" Gael's cry stole her focus and the trout spit the hook. Before she could muster a curse, her eyes followed her brother's unblinking stare. Across the river, not ten strides through the shallow water, a man glared back at them. Blood dripped from the fingertips of one arm, flowing from a nasty gash at the base of his neck. He glowered at them with a dark purpose. For the first time in her young life, Esgean knew the face of evil.
She grabbed her brother's hand in hers and they ran as fast as his six-year-old legs could turn. She didn't dare turn to look until Gael's hand pulled out of hers. The man was on them - he had her brother! She had forgotten to drop her fishing pole, and so she swung it at their attacker, snapping it off against the man's head. He leered at her, spitting curses. Then he picked Gael off the ground and looked as if he was about to take a bite out of the skinny lad. Esgean kicked at the side of his knee and the he buckled and hollered in pain, dropping Gael and reaching for her. She fell backward and he loomed over her, but then he stopped, his eyes veering beyond her into the forest. The man squinted and tried to clear his eyes with a bloodied hand as if struck dumb.
Esgean seized the chance, landing a solid kick on the open wound at the man's neck and the he howled and spun, grasping his torn flesh in agony. He stumbled and rolled toward the river, barely stopping himself from tumbling into the water. If he gathered himself up once more he would kill them.
The young girl sped past him and pulled a stone from the rocky shore with both hands. In one smooth motion she swung it high and brought it crashing down on the man's head, smashing his skull. Over and over she hit him until nothing resembling a face remained and she was sticky from ears to toes in red blood. At last she dropped the stone, stumbled into the river's edge, and sobbed while the cold water of the Tourondel rushed over her.
Gael hugged her tightly. "Sis, look."
Through tears Esgean raised her head and followed her brother's outstretched hand. There, at the edge of the wood was an incredible collection of animals. A pair of badgers sat next to a group of raccoons. A small herd of deer stood in a line watching the human siblings. A hawk perched on a low limb. There were skunks, squirrels, rats, birds of every feather, and lurking deeper was what looked like the shape of a black bear! But in the fore stood a bobcat, as if it had led the rest to this spot.
Esgean didn't breathe. She thought she could hear something over the thrust of the river, like people talking, but in a language she did not understand. Then it stopped, and one-by-one the animals retreated into the undergrowth.
Except for the bobcat. It lingered, and then it lay down and watched.
Now shaking, Esgean scrubbed at her hands. Gael helped clean blood from her face. She shivered as they started the long walk home. She told her father what had happened and he called for the town militia in case more bandits were gathered nearby. Later that evening, Gael tugged his sister's arm as they sat near the fire spit. Father had managed to trap a rabbit and it cooked slowly while the sun set.
"It's that bobcat," her younger brother said. Sure enough. There was the cat sitting and watching them from edge of the brush grass. "What do you make of that?"
Esgean didn't know what to make of it, except there was that strange talking again. "Do you hear that?"
"I don't hear nothin," said Gael.
"No one can hear it but you and me, dear." Esgean looked over to see Olmira Treesong standing nearby, her retinue of woodland creatures gathered about her. "That one sees something in you. The same thing I've seen since before your mother passed. Whatever happened to you today awakened the gift of the wood in you."
In the years that followed, Esgean would learn to wield her magic. Her bobcat companion, Rejke, was always at her side. Olmira was her teacher, but there was some larger mystery surrounding the older woman that Esgean could only guess at. She knew that one day Olmira would likely send her on her own to learn the deeper truths of the natural world. Perhaps then she would discover what it was about Olmira that seemed to transcend this world.
But before any of that she must journey to the Crypt of Everflame.

Odd Familiar question, for somewhere down the road should Albus get chosen.
Rather than summoning a whole new creature with the Improved Familiar feat, would you allow some sort of power up for the current one instead? There might be some way to do that already in place in the rules, but I've never played a character with a Familiar before, so I thought I'd ask. :D
Not an odd question at all. It is a really good question, and I like the idea. I would need to do some digging into the mechanics of it, but it is something I wouldn't say no to.
Everyone We have just over 28 hours until the submission deadline. We have a good variety of characters that I have been looking through and I believe that it is going to be a great time.

Joras Iggins |

Added a mandolin to Joras's equipment and did minor formatting.
@Dm Joseph Rauel The "Knights of Everflame" has nothing to do with the Crypt really, just refers to it vaguely once. The story starts elsewhere, apocalyptically, and ends up in Kassen with terrifying events.
Fantastic characters all, I'm hopeful but have fingers crossed.

11 characters, 9 of the Core Book 11 classes, and 6 slots.
Actually one of the best odds for selection I think I've seen on these boards. Right now, better than half of the applicants get in. Always interesting to see how the character creation rules affect the pool of applicants. <grin>
Based on how Dm Rauel has been talking about classes, growth, and the game, I'm not sure my battlefield control Fighter is in the range of characters he's looking for. That's perfectly fine with me. He should pick the characters he thinks he will enjoy having at the table. After all, if the DM's not having fun the game ends, and everybody loses out.

Esgean Eyre |

Well said, @hustonj. I forget who said most games that sputter out do so because of GM apathy, but everyone who's actually GM'd knows that only happens when the players aren't putting in the effort it takes to stay active in the game. RL is RL, stuff happens, but the thing that gets me is when someone just disappears. That's what kills games.
I never regret the time I put into creating a new character. I only wish I'd thrown my hat into the mix sooner. If nothing else I'll have a druid ready for next time. Good luck, all!

I really enjoy core only games, the classes have specific roles and there is less stepping on peoples toes. It's simpler and hopefully causes people to focus more on the character and their story.
Everyone There is still time that a submission can impact my decision, but I am starting my first draft of those who will be at the table.
Question for those who have submitted their PC already, and you can only choose 1:
Option 1: Play all 3 of the Price of Immortality series (Crypt of the Everflame, Masks of the Living God, and City of Golden Death) Home-brew game would not be off the table
Option 2: Play Crypt of the Everflame then go into home-brew game.

Yeah . . ..
Kinda like the common thought about how underpowered Fighters are . . ..
If you ignore all the bonus cruft that has built up over the years (remember that PF1 STARTED with all the 3.0/3.5 cruft in place) and look at what the Fighter Class was built to do (not what people want it to do), it is amazingly versatile.
Almost any weapon, any armor, any shield in any combination.
Serving as wall, damage contributor, or battlefield control and swapping between roles sometimes between attack rolls, not requiring full refitting or overnight preparation to do so.
No, the Fighter does NOT do the most damage to opponents. The class is not intended for the race to zero crowd.
That's the primary reason I like the Elephant in the Room rules concept: They try to streamline the cruft to reduce the selections back to the point that the Fighter can regain the versatility and utility it was designed to have in the first place. All the cruft expanded the options by a factor of 5, when the core material still provided something like 5 times the options that a single Fighter could ever train in. The cruft of additional options makes it impossible for the Fighter to be perceived as covering very many options. But nobody else can cover as many options as effortlessly and seamlessly, even with the cruft.
Edit: Using the PFSRD20 Feats Database sorting/filtering options, it appears there are currently 555 combat feats and the core book contained 109. So, a PF1 Fighter, Core Book Only, could come close to covering 1/5th of the Combat Feats. Now they can come close to covering 1/25th of the combat feats. The ever-expanding options used to sell books have made it impossible for the class to cover as much of the option space as it originally did.
And corrected the off-the-cuff ratios to match the discovered numbers.

just in time maybe :)
Miron Belodor: Male Human Boreal Sorcerer
mentor: Moltus Vargidan
Miron was born to simple farmers and had fate not intervened would have grown up to be a simple farmer too. But during the harsh winter of <a few years ago>, the worst that any one could remember seeing, Miron disappeared while walking home one night from the town proper. Due to the severe blizzard, a search party could not even be organised until a few days later, and it wasn't until a week and a half after he disappeared that he staggered home, shivering, but seemingly unscathed. Miron himself could not say where he had been - all that he knew was that he had lost his way in the snow, collapsed under a tree and fallen unconscious. He had no memory of the lost time, and did not know who or what had enabled him to survive - all he knew was that he felt cold.
As winter turned to spring, and spring to summer, still Miron felt cold. At midsummer he was still rugged up in his winter gear, shivering despite the sweat. The town healers were unable to help, what was affecting Miron was not natural - it must be some strange magical affliction. He was bounced around between a few of the smart residents, until at one point old Moltus Vargidan got a look at him, who, in a rare moment of lucidity and frankness told Miron, "Don't know who put it in you, but the ice is part of you now, boy. You can let it out, but you can't get rid of it - you'd be getting rid of yourself." He offered to watch over Miron, then promptly forgot about it. Still, Miron found he was welcome at the Vargidan grounds, and found out - through hanging around with Moltus's various children - how to produce some magical effects. Producing magic finally gave Miron some brief respite from the constant cold he feels, but it is brief, and the terrible chill returns each time.

@GM, it was your fond epic memory of the homebrew campaign that piqued my interest but I would happily play either option. (Strong preference to your homebrew) FWIW, I ran my own homebrew Star Wars campaign here last year and it didn't translate. I had created a dense open-world environment and asked the players to choose how they wanted to proceed and it was like dead air. I had to switch gears and put them on rails to make headway. I don't think you'll suffer from unimaginative player involvement with Pathfinder and the pool of submissions you have here - many very good ones!

Hey there, this Recruitment was billed as option 2, which is my preference as homebrew is what appeals to me the most. I feel like Adventure Paths are not a good format for PbPs, and I wonder how much a series of linked adventures would run into the same problems.
It looks like each of those adventures takes PCs through two levels, so the group would be 6th or 7th level at finish? That's not too long. A heavy dose of homebrew antics would be welcome if the group goes with option 1, however. The less "filler" encounters that are there just to keep PCs on the right experience track, the better.

Roya Tani |

Either option would be fine for me, with a slight preference for Option 1.
Simply because I've never played them.
I definitely do want to transition into homebrew, but doing that after following a full story 'arc' seems perfectly reasonable considering the scope of those adventures.
(unlike "regular" AP's that take you to around level 16, where there's little room for advancement left before you enter into epic territory.)

Option 1 sounds good to me but the GM should have his fun too, and if you want to do some homebrew I'm good with that.
Just so everyone is aware, I will always add home-brew elements into whatever I run. Which would lay groundwork for something beyond the adventure(s).

I am not a fan of filling things with random encounters for the sake of being on track for experience, it doesn't tell a story.
And, if I am being perfectly honest, I really like the characters that have been submitted. I have decided to run two tables. One for each option. I can use all 12 of those who have submitted, and we have people who like one option of the other, or who just want to play.
I am going to take Miron Belodor as the final submission, and continue with the table selections. Please answer the above campaign option question if you have not yet. Choose which option you'd really prefer and we will take care of the party make-up in game.

Joras Iggins |

Thanks for that GM; after Miron posted I did think that's enough for two tables but lazy moochers like me shouldn't tell someone willing to put in the massive effort GMing involves to double their workload. I'll do my best to put at least 1/6th the effort you are though, your enthusiasm and thoughtfulness requires it.
Edit: While option 1 is preferred if you need someone to fill up the other table for balance or any reason at all, I'd still be honored to join.

Andostre |

Mostly for my own benefit, I've taken the GM's roster, updated/added Miron and Esgean, and prefaced each entry with option 1, 2, or Either (recognizing that most people implied they'd also be fine with their non-chosen option.) Apologies to Miron and Esgean, I'm not going to presume to classify them into the GM's categories. They're at the end under "Recent."

Awesome.
Great news for everyone. As for my preference, I'd be willing to play Aldmus at either table, with a bit of a lean towards playing through all three modules AND homebrew. Reminds me most of my early days of gaming in high school, and how we did it. That said, though, more than willing to play just the Crypt and then into homebrew.
Seriously looking forward to this.
Thanks, DM JR!
