Welcome all to the Table. Hope your dice are good and warmed up. Age of Ashes, especially Book 1, has a bit of a reputation as a meat grinder, so be prepared.
While we wait for everyone to get here, please do a couple things:
1) Work on your story of why you are in Breachill (note one H in Breachill, my fingers want to add 2....)
Some may be from here, some may be passing through, or have other reasons, but everyone has heard of the Call for Heroes, a once-per-month event put on by the Breachill town council where they hire would-be heroes for odd jobs around the village.
2) Verify your equipment and left over coins. Everyone should've started with 15gp (150sp). If you bought the class kit, please let me know as the prices don't always jive. We will have a loot tracking spreadsheet at some point, and I just want to know the starting entries
3) Look over the Breachill primer in the Players Guide to establish some familiarity with NPCs, places, and things. We wil open scene in the Wizard's Grace tavern, which is a favorite place for adventurers to gather before the monthly Call for Heroes begins.
Congratulations on making it here! Look forward to story-telling with you for a good long time to come. The first step is not far away!
Valdrin |
Thank you again for selecting me, as I look forward to help keep everyone alive and spread a little faith in the redeeming goddess.

Mr Serpens checking in.
Everybody wants to be naked and famous - but I am quite partial to my clothes, so let's just settle for famous.

I did buy the rogue kit, plus thieves tools and a disguise kit. There's a few gold leftover from it--let me know if I need to adjust.
Trista Lortella |
Updated by inventory. I did do the adventure's pack. Poor Trista only has 6 sp to her name, but that's the life of a runaway noble's daughter.
The Call to Heroes seems to be the most unusual thing in town, so Trista would be there looking for clues about her visions.
Elise "Finch" Grimms |
Okay, my Alias should be fully updated now, including inventory.
Some stuff about Elise, if anyone wants to make connections and stuff before the game begins :)
* Her alias, Finch, is not public knowledge. Mr. Serpens is the only one who is aware of her alias as of the beginning of the game.
* Elise is born and raised in Breachill. If you've lived here for a while or been in town for any length of time, Elise has probably tried to get to know you.
* She works closely with Mr. Serpens and is often seen in his company.
* She frequents the three major taverns in the town, depending on what kind of trouble she's looking to get into or things she wants to overhear - she is partial, however, to The Wizard's Grace. Her family home is nearby.
* She's familiar with Morta Valaskin as a point of contact for town gossip.
* She has a reputation as a flirt around town & it has caused a problem or two in the past.
Fentus Mourncrag |
dotting, I'll follow up here later today. About to go on a 6 hour hike but I wanted to make sure I jump in and say thank you again and I'm excited to play with y'all!
Olaf, Son of no-one |
Checking in.
Out of town today so I'll get my profile all set up and the final purchases and character touches finished tomorrow or tomorrow evening.
Pretty excited to run this AP!
Valdrin |
As somewhat of a newcomer to the town of Breachill, Valdrin has spent the past few weeks doing the following:
* Establishing a working relationship with Narine Howerdell and the loggers of Breach Creek Lumber by helping treat medical issues for incoming and outgoing loggers.
* Moves between Cayden’s Keg, The Great Dreamhouse, and Shelyn’s Smile to help with daily chores and services.
* Every morning and sunset can be seen offering prayers to Sarenrae.
* When he has free time, Valdrin will frequent Wizard's Grace to hear the stories of travelers, and tell those of his own.
* For sleeping accommodations, he will offer to help out at one of the temples of the town for a night's rest.
All in all, he's very visible around town, not as a local, but someone of good nature who cares about the well being of those he meets.
Elise "Finch" Grimms |
Nice - it sounds like Elise would definitely be passingly familiar with Valdrin from seeing him around Wizard's Grace, if nothing else. They might have even chatted a few times before, if you (the player) are open to it!
Valdrin |
Sounds good to me Elise! Valdrin loves to hear stories and talk with others.
As a side note, for equipment I got the Cleric's Kit, Healer's Tools, a dagger, a staff (Walking stick), a healing potion (minor), and have 3 gp and 6 sp left over.

Olaf, Son of no-one |
I plan to have Olaf be a newcomer to town, chasing the call to heroes and the birth of his own legend.
Or so he hopes.
Trista Lortella |
While waiting for the Call, Trista would be investigating the town archives and spending downtime in the Wizard's Grace, which is the closest tavern.

I looked over Elise in detail and the build looks A-ok. I do have questions about the money however. If you started with 15gp, and bought the rogue kit (7.4gp) and the disguise (2gp) and the Tools (1gp), you should have 4.6 left. You show 3.8. Just want to be clear...
Also, you have no ranged weapon except thrown daggers. It's fine just want to make sure you are aware.
Anyway, unless you adjust something, Elise is good to go.

Pathbuilder/Archives of Nethys has Rogue Kit listed as 6.2 gp, disguise kit 2gp, thieves tools as 3gp, which leaves me with 3.8gp. I can go with your prices, no problem, though.
I added a shortbow and 20 arrows. (3.2gp total)
DM DoctorEvil |
Mr Serpens checking in.
The actual build detail for Mr S is a little light. I have his ancestry as Ancient Elf, but that opens up a archetype dedication (think multi-class) you mentioned dipping Rogue, so I chose that, which gives you Surprise Attack ability. Is that right?
I also can't tell a Background that you chose, which adds to ability boosts etc.
I also don't see a Skill or Ancestry Feat listed. Think you'll want to select something there. If you have its not clear from your profile.
Still work on Equipment

Interesting, but I have been using Hero Lab Online, and it has a different (lower)price for the rogue kit. Guess we can say you just knew someone who got you a better deal. With the bow and arrow, I have you at 1.4 to start.

Valdrin seems to be in order as well. The discrepancy in class kit shows up again. But we will go with your number to start at 3.6gp.
No armor is an interesting choice, we shall see if that stays as part of his build once the dice start hitting the table in anger. Again, just a dagger for ranged weapon (know he's not built for that) so might have limited options if you get in a fight later.
Fentus Mourncrag |
Hey, DM Doctorevil, finished setting up my character sheet. I wanted to point out that I was chosen as the Arcane Spellcaster but Diabolic Sorcerer's use the Divine Spell List unfortunately.
I'm not really familiar with how different those spell lists are in PF2 but in PF1 they were very distinctly different. If you want to let me use the Arcane spell list instead of Divine I'm cool with that too. I'm not sure if it was a flavor decision on Paizo's part or a Balance decision.
__________________________________________________________________________
* Fentus has only recently arrived in town, a non-descript traveler from Absalom. He stayed the night at Cayden's Keg the first night in town but has otherwise been sleeping in what alleyway's he can find.
* He's been seen asking around if anyone remembers a woman named Jillain, but hasn't had much luck.
* Recently decided to attend the local Call for Heroes, hoping for a chance to ask one of the town councilor's if they remember his mother and can give him anymore information about her or who his extended family might be.
* Spends most of his nights dicing and playing cards and betting on fights at the Pickled Ear.

As a Cloistered Cleric, I don't get armor proficiency, but instead I get Domain Initiate for free, which will help out in the healing. Also, if we think that we might end up in a jam, I can change my spells out after every morning's prayer. I'm going to go almost full support with access to a few fun spells later on. As for the discrepancy with the Class Kit, I wonder if Herolab is using a different number. I can check into that, and talk with one of the people that works on tickets, so I can see which is the correct number.
Valdrin |
Question, is Hero Lab adding Hide Armor for the Cleric Kit? I see the cost in the core as 2.2 gp for the kit, while Hide Armor adds 2 gp to the cost.
Olaf, Son of no-one |
Ok, profile should be updated. Didn't buy any kits, just the adventurers pack and some weapons and whatnot.
Did give myself a spellbook free since its said I get one with the class
Olaf, Son of no-one |
Oh, in case it’s not obvious, I have 2 steel shields. Shields break stupid easy in 2e, but shield block is really helpful so I have a spare and Quick Repair skill feat.
Hope it works out.

As we work on finalizing characters, I am pleased to say the initial Gameplay post is now up. You may post there in character as the town, and prospective heroes, gather ahead of the Call at Wizard's Grace. You may know some of the people, meet others, and generally have a good conversation before the actual Call for Heroes begins.
Thanks to GM Fern from whom I copied the basics of the intro post, with some alterations.
Go on in, interact, ham it up or whatever. Serious events are coming your way, but for now, it's a tavern, what's the worst that could happen?

Haha, that's great. GM Fern is a good friend of mine IRL.

I was chosen as the Arcane Spellcaster but Diabolic Sorcerer's use the Divine Spell List unfortunately.
Ok, you're fired then....While I didn't know that specifically, the sorceror still fills that main spellcaster role, you'll just have to be creative in how you fill it, which is fine. also, there is a magus to backstop arcane stuff if needed (and a thaumaturge if needed).
I assume its for flavor, and it may make a difference when we find arcane scrolls, spellbooks, and the like, but will try to cover it as best we can. Let's keep it with Divine list.
The Pickled Ear is pretty rough crowd, so watch yourself there. If you've really been sleeping in the streets, you've probably been asked several times, "Just come in an' sleep at our place. We gots plenty o' room and the weather's turnin' to a bit of cold, dontcha know. It's not trouble now, I insist..." and the like.

That's small-worldy...I was just looking at few threads of AoA to see how others kicked off, and thought hers was smashingly good. I read several pages of their game, and it looks really cracking. Tell her I think her style is awesome!
I did not tell her I was copying, but did at least cite sources, so maybe partial credit?

Per HL Online, the cleric kit does not contain armor, perhaps because of the Cloisterd option? But the rest of the kits do, if the class allows it, far as I can tell.

Okay, that’s what I thought. I was just wondering what the price discrepancy could be, lol.
Trista Lortella |
Trista can eventually cover scrolls (of any tradition) as well, if that's something we decide we want. I don't really have her built out; going to try to just organically develop her character based on what happens to us.
Elise "Finch" Grimms |
Relatable. I have an idea for where I'd want Elise to go, but I also try to do the same - the organic development. Plus, Elise and Trista have some overlap, so when they start working together, they can figure out and focus on their strengths. :) I'm looking forward to it.
Olaf, Son of no-one |
I do plan on going Wizard dedication with Olaf, it’ll take a while but he will eventually have some wizard spell slots for utility spells.
Also, pretty happy to see a Thaumaturge in the group, it’s the other class I’ve been really wanting to play so I can see someone play it and live vicariously. Win win.
Fentus Mourncrag |
Btw, the TLDR of Fentus' backstory is his mom got knocked up by a Hellknight who mysteriously disappeared before they could get married. She fled the village to Absalom where she raised Fentus' as a single parent. She recently passed away from an illness that they didn't have the money to pay for to cure her.
On her deathbed she said she was from Breachill and that his father was hellknight. Yada Yada, now he is in town hoping to find some of his lost family/cousins/what have you's and hopefully the chance to explore the Castle to find out more about his missing father.
His sorcerer powers only recently awakened, rather late in life for a sorcerer, it be like that sometimes. Fentus is 27-ish.
Out of character, Fentus was a homeless bum who went from scam to scam to earn enough money to get drunk for the night. Very Chaotic Neutral, this journey will hopefully see him learn to grow and reform his ways into a Lawful Neutral Diabolic Sorcerer as he learns to use the powers of Hell for hopefully good.

I added a Loot Tracker to the top margin. Tab1 is where loot etc found by the party will reside before its appraised or distributed or sold. Tab 2 is cash on hand by party member. I updated what I show using HL online, but those amounts may vary from your. Please LMK what your total is, and I will just make the adjustment. Tab 3 is where claimed or distributed items reside so you can see who has taken a "fair share" or holds what things.
I made each of you viewers of this file, but not editors.

Elise, I gave you some spoilers in the tavern interaction to share what you might know about this people since you are a prospective information broker. You can choose to impart what you will to the group however you see fit, if at all.
That should set a few hooks for you to interact off of as you see fit before we move the story on. Welcome to Breachill!
Valdrin |
Rolling a 4 doesn’t help with some of that, but then again, Valdrin is new enough in town to not know all the going ons as of yet, hehe.
Elise "Finch" Grimms |
Whew, I'm going to have to keep some kind of Google Slides thing or something to make a "Case File" for all this information. :P

For sure - this is mostly for me keeping track of what Elise is picking up from everything + some of the player's guide stuff. Trying to keep it more in-character-focused, and it has some of her own assumptions about things in it. Honestly, it's just me being kinda extra :)
