"Bah! Friends don't need permission!
"Although..." he makes some ridiculous gestures and dances around in a small circle.
"There, now your bones won't explode out of your body when you step across the border. You're welcome."

Much appreciated... rallas says as he heads into the grove. He collects a few sticks to boil a pot of water for tea.
Out of honey though...usually helps with the tea..but this stuff doesn't need it..has a sweetness all its own...jasmine I think it is...can't read the package...the merchant said that's what it is...

Sorry friends. My life really really got away from me there
I do prefer my bones within my body. I am glad for your intervention.
The Ganzi confidently steps into the grove, almost ignoring Vinst and looking about the rest the rest of the clearing for other, less obvious, threats.

EbonFist |

"Oh, honey? I've got honey," Vinst leaves the circle for a bit leaving the group with a rather large bear that growls and grumbles at them but doesn't attack.
When the druid returns he has a piece of honeycomb with a couple bees still buzzing around it.
The honey that drips off of it is so dark orange that it verges on being red.
"You can really taste the iron from the assassin vine flowers," he comments.

"Oh? Really? Well, when you have to go, you have to go. Hopefully you won't HAVE TO GO," Vinst says.
"If you're coming back this way on your way back, drop in. I'd love to chat more.
"Make sure you take a left at the old oak tree. Oh and watch out for the quicksand after the brush pile," he continues, providing what proves to be useful advice.
"If you're going to find Firhalaz, I've heard he lives in a swampy area that's infested with leeches, so be careful.
"Before you go, you don't look so good," he says to Rallas. He uses some of his magic to help him.

The damp yet firm ground of Tanglebriar gradually descends toward expanses of standing water. Although suspended sediment and matted heaps of decaying plant material obscure the swamp’s bottom, trees and reeds are still numerous here, suggesting the water cannot be terribly deep. In places, concentrations of plants have trapped silt and organic matter to create miniature islands amid the dark expanse of water.
You slog your way through about 400 yards of swamp before...
An immense slab of rock covered in algae and lichen protrudes through the suffocating canopy of leaves. The trees that grow near it sway intermittently as if pushed by a strong wind, but the movement is actually caused by the convulsions of a half dozen four-foot-long chrysalises of gooey, gray silk that hang from the tree boughs. Hanging from other branches are pieces of elven armor, broken weapons, and other trophies
from battlefields. Several mementoes are still slick with partially congealed blood and buzzing with flies.
Please place yourselves on the western edge of the map. You see a giant leech and a swarm of smaller leeches before you. You also see the 6 chrysalises. Dark green areas on the map are silty hummocks that are not difficult to navigate. Likewise, the rock easily supports your weight and doesn’t restrict movement. Areas marked in yellow on the map are deep bog. All remaining squares are considered shallow bog.
Bogs: If a square is part of a shallow bog, it has deep mud or standing water of about 1 foot in depth. It costs 2 squares of movement to move into a square with a shallow bog, and the DC of Acrobatics checks in such a square increases by 2.
A square that is part of a deep bog has roughly 4 feet of standing water. It costs Medium or larger creatures 4 squares of movement to move into a square with a deep bog, or characters can swim if they wish. Small or smaller creatures must swim to move through a deep bog. Tumbling is impossible in a deep bog.
The water in a deep bog provides cover for Medium or larger creatures. Smaller creatures gain improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves). Medium or larger creatures can crouch as a move action to gain this improved cover. Creatures with this improved cover take a –10 penalty on attacks against creatures that aren’t underwater.
Deep bog squares are usually clustered together and surrounded by an irregular ring of shallow bog squares. Both shallow and deep bogs increase the DC of Stealth checks by 2.

The team bombs and bows the demon into submission, its hands loosening their death grip on Kal'Ryon as it falls lifelessly to the ground.
With Firhalaz and his pets out of the way, it is easy enough for the group to cut down the 6 chrysalises and free the elves within. Fortunately enough you got there in time to prevent any of them from transforming or being slain in the attempt.
Lanverel is one of the last elves you free. The leader of the Uprooters first checks on his fellow rangers before thanking you.
The words of gratitude are quickly followed by a pointed question.
"Much as we appreciate the assistance, who is responsible for letting mercenaries such as yourselves into Kyonin? Why weren't we rescued by proper elves?" he demands.

Diazepane offers to put them back in the chrysalises and revive the demons so that proper elves can rescue them.

As the creature drops him, Kal struggles around for a thin, black, polished wand before tapping his thigh with it. As his substantial wounds slowly knit, he wanders back to find the other wand he dropped.
"We aren't mercenaries, though if you are looking for some..."

Less sarcastically, Diazepane relays their mission.
"We are from the Pathfinder Society and have been sent by General Tenasi to recover the six missing Uprooters - you. This mission was assigned to the Pathfinder Society, who is trying to negotiate reciprocal aid in kind on the northern front, in the Worldwound.
Alas, it is us who are in need of your services, to reach the Sky Citadel - after ample recovery time, of course."

Proper elf? These aren't fake ears, my friend... Rallas says with a sly grin.
And as my friend here said, we are from the Society... he says as he fishes out his wayfinder made of jade.
Any of you hurt?

Almaas nods after the others explain themselves.
He formally addresses the elves with a speech.
“Be glad that you can rejoin your community for a certain time before you travel with us to the worldwound! Seeing family and embracing friends is something that every person cherishes … and you not becoming demons should be what you should be thanking your gods for! Do not let bitterness into your heart because we are not elves but let your gratitude towards us flow!“ he says admonishingly.
He then explains what happened in Kyonin and what the group went through to finally rescue them.

Lanverel listens to Diazepane's explanation then sneers. "Saving people so that they will do something for you in return? Mercenaries.
"General Tenasi, eh? What other officers were involved in abandoning us here?"
He shakes his head and sniffs in response to Rallas.
"Demanding gratitude for yourselves? And for those who abandoned us here? You're getting a little ahead of yourself if you think we're just going to travel to the Worldwound with you! There are things in Kyonin which must be addressed!" Almaas first words clearly infuriate him even more though the more the dwarf talks, including as they are departing, the calmer he seems to get.

Almaas feels that the pain has subsided.
He bites his tongue to say nothing more to anger the Calistrian.
"I am truly glad that you are all alive. Hopefully, we will get back without incident."

"Saving people so that they will do something for you in return? Mercenaries.
"General Tenasi, eh? What other officers were involved in abandoning us here?"
"Marriage of convenience, perhaps, but the elves need our help as much as we need yours. Might I suggest that, after thanking us, you consider channeling whatever residual anger you have towards the demons that have harmed both of our peoples, rather than your own leaders or your own rescuers?"
"There are things in Kyonin which must be addressed!"
"No doubt. You may settle them when we get back."

Mercenaries? Hardly... Rallas says, a bit offended by being labelled as such. He holds back his response so as not to make things worse.
Aye..as Master Ketal has said...we should focus our attention on the demons. Do you know if your weapons are around here? I don't carry an arsenal with me...but do have a spare blade and bow...

With Fihralaz defeated and with the assistance of the surviving elves, you have little difficulty escaping from Tanglebriar and reuniting with the Uprooters at Mount Armiya. Another group of elves arrives soon thereafter to receive a report of your success and escort the victorious outsiders safely out of Kyonin. Waiting for them at the border is a messenger who informs them of General Tenasi’s appreciation of their service and the promise of elven allies at a time and place to be named by the Pathfinder Society. The society also rewards you by paying a monetary bonus for a job well done.
