Ah, good. Yanndu had come up and turned the air elemental invisible (easily pierced by his see invisibility, but helpful for unenhanced vision.) Lichaam has the elemental remain near Yanndu for the moment.

With news that the final skeleton has been found, Lichaam opts to conserve the powers of the Opal. Instead, he moves forward, drawing a scroll as he goes. If the telepathic directions were valid...

Use Swift Scroll ability to draw scroll of Gust of Wind during movement.

A gust of wind shreds the fog in a line between Lichaam and the skeleton.

Lichaam looks around the entryway. "Nobody else on this side of the fog" he replies. "The entrance we used was blocked off, so I'm not sure why they would be guarding this route. We are close, though, so... maybe Ymeri simply had skeletons to spare, and stationed them here?"

Taking a quick moment to wand himself again, Heightened Awareness he then floats into the fog. Stopping halfway over, he makes sure to point out the damaged sections of flooring.

While there, Lichaam searches what thermally-compromised bodies are left.

Moving forwards (and upwards) to the other side of the fog, Lichaam takes a good look at the chamber. Was the damage all from the Trueflame discharge, or had this area become geologically unstable over the centuries?

You heal yourselves and after a while realize that there are two sets of wings of the gargoyle in the cavern.

The pepperbox musket of the undead gunslingers melts away soon after their demise.

HEART OF THE PYRE

Lichaam analyzes the interior of Kandirion’s Pyre and realizes that all these tunnels are networks of passageways that house arcane conduits, planar calibrators, and elemental pipes that together channel and control blasts of trueflame from the surrounding region for use at the forge.

Its ceilings are 40 feet high, its walls are magically treated hewn stone (Climb DC 25), and its stairs rise at a steep angle that is considered difficult terrain. This area uses Pathfinder Flip-Mat: Mythos Dungeon, though areas that depict water are instead filled with
magma.

The statues mostly represent fanciful metal sculptures depicting living creatures composed of fire.

This hallway leads to an unworked series of passages and lava tubes.

The elemental also benefits from Caduceus' healing... but the rapidly-narrowing passageways soon start causing problems of their own.

"Who can use the wings?" Lichaam asks, looking around for people without a working steed. "They should provide protection against physical blows, but the design prevents them from working in tandem with standard protective cloaks."

He takes the time to examine the conduits on their way, consulting with the other scholars. Determining the direction of energy flow in the system should lead them to the Trueflame-emitting artifact, assuming it survived the destruction of the rest of the pyre. If it didn't... the Pathfinders might need to improvise.

Fendahl stops Rajah and indicates that opening chamber ahead of anyone more stealthy or nimble elemental wanted to scout.

Following the completion of combat, Kyron takes out his notebook and jots down a few more observations along with collecting some samples for later study.

Once the party reach the Pyre itself he uses a pearl of power to recall Heightened Awareness which he recasts on himself before continuing on.

D2. THE SMITHY’S SHORE

You look around and the academics in your group are sure that the gout of trueflame that scoured much of Kandirion’s Pyre above also blasted away one of the walls in this room, leaving a broad shore along a magma lake.

There is nothing else of note in this room except of the heat and the lava.

Please remember that the water on the map is actually lava.


You look up the stairs from your position. The stairs lead up to the heart of the complex.

D8. KANDIRION’S FORGE

A massive, twenty-foot-tall brass statue of a three-headed ibis nearly reaches the ceiling at the back of the chamber. Six curving wings extend from the statue’s back, resembling sculpted flames.

Each of the ibis’s three avian heads stares down with an open mouth at a ten-foot-wide stone basin at the statue’s feet. An Ignan rune on the basin’s rim glows like hot metal.

He also considers the effect that summoned the elemental, and what would happen if the Opal was destroyed before the elemental was dismissed. Would the elemental still retain the power initially granted it, or would that power (and the elemental) be revoked?

In Auran it nods. “I am old. Very old. Long before the rise of human civilization on Golarion, eight elemental lords reigned over the Elemental Planes, with a benevolent ruler and vile tyrant vying for supremacy on each of these four planes. The sinister Kelizandri, lord of water, forged a temporary alliance with his three evil counterparts, and together they overpowered each of the good-aligned rulers and sealed them within nearly indestructible gemstones. The Duke of Thunder Ranginori is one of these imprisoned demigods, and for ages he has wallowed within the Untouchable Opal. You hold the opal now and with that can command me as Ranginori‘s essence is shaping the power to summon me. You seem to be here to free Ranginori. I am loyal to no moral authority. I am the essence of the plane of air. Once I’m free of my bonding to the opal, I will return to my home plane!“

You put your heads together and realize that the statue depicts the lost elemental lord of fire Atreia, the Lambant Prince.

The Ignan rune at the basin’s base is one of the language’s several words for “ignition,” carrying the subtext of starting fire to begin a grand endeavor.

You also realize that Kandirion’s forge is deactivated.

After all, how many times had they heard of a wizard losing control of his conjurations, who killed him? Or his mind-controlled servants, or his magical beasts, or undead... or golems. So many golems. Why did people keep building them with such a glaring flaw apparently inherent to the craft? Maybe he should look into it, see if he could fix that flaw. But that was a question for later.

"Shall we search for the problem, then? A safety might have tripped during the catastrophe, which would explain why this place isn't still filling with trueflame."

No, I really don't like that plan and I think you moved way too fast on this part without allowing time for players to post.

"We should do these simultaneously, not sequentially," Daathiel says. "Our spells of protection are of limited duration and some will expire if we do these in sequence. As well, more enemies could arrive. We should split up. Or I will, anyway."

Without waiting for a consensus, he heads off to recalibrate one of the systems. "I do not believe I will require any assistance with this." He will not accept any Aid Another, nor any MW books. He gets the +2 for speaking Ignan and the +3 for making the DC 35 Knowledge check during the briefing.

He will proceed to area D7 and attempt to calibrate the Metaplanar Engine.

You approach the last room in the far north-eastern corner.

A shimmering cube of force ten feet on each side hovers inches off of the ground at the back of this ancient chamber.

Seated crosslegged inside the cube is a horned, crimson-skinned creature covered in golden runic tattoos. Deep, jagged scars mar some of the creature’s tattoos, and its wrists are bound by a thick pair of cold iron shackles covered in blazing blue sigils.

This is an Efreeti and you can roll kn planes to learn more about their abilities.
