Welcome, everyone!

After a good deal of thought (and time, sorry 'bout that) I have decided to treat this game the way I would if I were running it for tabletop. That is, I'm going to take more players than I had originally planned, because the submissions and their potential interactions were just too good to pass on.

So, what does this mean for you guys?

With this many of you, the game will, right out of the box, likely be a bit rougher than it's written, but that just makes it more unique and (hopefully) fun for everyone! Besides, who runs modules As-Is, anyway? ;) While there definitely is a linear story here, I've always been a fan of games that more of a sandbox kind-of-feel, anyways.

With seven of you, I'm hoping that:
a) the game will take on an almost epic-type feel... (i.e. Dragonlance or LotR)
b) we shouldn't have to worry about player/character dropout and re-recruitment as much as a 4 player game.

For right now, I'd like to have everyone check in, say Hi, and give a brief description of your character and some basics that would become apparent to the rest of the characters after a few days of traveling together by wagon.

From the "Player's Guide":
Silas is recruiting adventurers and mercenaries in the Taldan port city of Cassomir. You have been recruited as protection for what Silas described as a very delicate cargo that needs to be delivered on quite a tight schedule to Wispil, the Lumber capital of Taldor. However, your travels are interrupted when you arrive at the small town of Belhaim...

The actual game will start sometime this weekend, or on Monday(for anyone who can't post on Saturdays and Sundays). The characters will not quite have reached Belhaim, and will have a day or two of travel in which to interact.

In any event, Welcome, and thanks for your interest in what I hope will be an amazing campaign.

Tarrow can hardly believe his luck. At nearly the precise moment he was considering leaving Cassomir for a season to travel back to his homeland for some desperately-needed resolution, in walks that swell character, Silas. It was when the barmaid nearly doused the charming fellow in beer, saved only by the young halfling's reflexive interception of the unexpectedly air-born pint, that the dashing gentleman's interest piqued.

A day later Tarrow had gathered his few belongings and set out on the road with Silas' modest caravan en route to Wispil. Why not get paid to travel?

Though his profession as local brewmaster comes with the burden of having to sample much too much of his own inventory, for which he has gained a noticeable paunch despite his youth, Tarrow is surprisingly fleet-footed, having no problems with the pace of the group. He carries in-hand at most times a trusty shortspear that doubles as a walking stick for the ready, just in case. He's not overly chatty unless engaged, and then he can be quite amicable. Something clearly haunts his manner, but he breaks out of it easily and whatever thing troubles his mind disappears with a smile.

In the evening he makes quick work helping around camp, but the majority of his efforts go to the production of beer to supplement the nightly meal. You'll find he crafts a decent lager and can be pressed to make a stout, for those inclined. His methods involve an alchemy kit, and appear almost magical.

Hi and thank you!

In the days you all have spent with Braggi, you might have noticed he really a nice guy - not that he's a charity nun, but he wishes the best for his friends from the bottom of his heart. Honest and cheerful, he's had bad luck in the very worst moments, but he doesn't give up, even if he likes to complain.

In combat, if there's been any, you have probably noticed he throws carelessly into the fray, but he also keeps that spirit of companionship and tries to be useful if there's need.

His athletic - and enormous - body attracts many looks, though he's not too much into the complexities of social behaviour - at least not more than the basics - so he doesn't get all the juice he could from his potential.

Yeah, I know the last part about the juice sounded horrible, but well... :P

Sovereign Court

Thanks. I'm looking forward to stepping back into Svala's shoes. See below for what I mean by that.

Svala is young for someone so focused on the warrior ways, but she carries a confidence in herself that is almost infectious at times. She tried not to be arrogant, but sometimes she comes off wrong. She tends to avoid too much conversation, but it is mostly since she knows she is still young and doesn't want to give others a chance to treat her like a child. Around those who make an effort to treat her as an fellow warrior though she is quick to speak her mind and laugh along with their good natured jabs.

During moments of tension, Svala sticks mostly with those she feels need the most protecting. She leaves scouting to others and stays close to the caravan as she feels she is their last defense if trouble should arrive. She is not a coward though, as she will face off against almost any foe. She has found a special bound with her fellow Ulfen Braggi, seeing an almost opposite fellow to herself. She sees herself following his lead into combat, bringing the enemy down from opposites sides, both figuratively with their styles and truly in a tactical flank position.

Inspiration:
Svala was originally a PFS character, designed around the image I linked in her profile. While building her it was seen as odd to select two non-light weapons but the image just felt wrong for someone using shortswords, so I stuck with it. She ended up being one of the most fun characters I played. It will be good to see how she does in this format.

My sincerest thanks for the invite! Hoping for a very fun game. It's a somewhat short module and great for forums.

Muradin's profile has already the "meat" for his appearance, behavior, role and mechanics, so hopefully people can get a good idea for him from there :)

In a summary: Muradin is the quintessential grumpy Dwarf with a heart of gold hidden underneath several layers of "oompf". He's the guide for the expedition, a survivalist and expert tracker, but a man of few words, sharp with his bow. He's lawful good, worships Erastil, and constantly prays for the Old Deadeye, including his daily obedience rituals.

Thanks for the pick GM! You mention a few off the reasons you selected us seven. Would you be able to give us a brief idea of what you liked about the characters, that way we can play up those aspects.

Seven is an excellent number for an epic adventure! Sins, Samurai, Virtues, Wonders, Seas, Heavens... The list goes on. This may be brought up be Avogadro in the near future.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As the cargo is being loaded onto the caravan, a long spindly man in a tatty suit and a smart hat blusters up to Silas. He carries an equally tatty rucksack that has obviously been packed in a hurry, shirt cuffs poke out where it has been barely closed. The handkerchief he pulls out to mop his beaded brow turns out to be one of a long chain, multicoloured all, the man doesn't appear to notice.

"Good evening... morning... day to you. This machination is yours? Is headed for pastures new no?" he continues without waiting for any response "I have a splendid opportunity for you and all who sail... wheel with you. I, Avogadro the Astounding, shall travel with you. I am in need for the green grass of the other side and I believe you are the lawnsman for me. I shall sweeten the deal even further and add some coin to the coffer..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Avogadro will have spent the journey having overly verbose conversations with all of you, he is a talkative soul but is a good listener too. He has unique peculiarities in his behaviour, he is overly civilised, genteel, and careful in his motions. The most important thing to realise about Avogadro is that he absolutely thrives on social interaction, isolation would be an unbearable torture for him. He can come across as arrogant at first but this is just his manner, he is actually quite a vulnerable soul as things stand. Think Willy-wonka mixed with Skellig.

Magic is an ever present constant around Avogadro. He is constantly prestidigitating small gifts and nik-naks. Floating lights, like fire flies, flit after him at night. It is not entirely clear if his lack of 'concious' magic is all part of his act or if he really is unaware that he is the source of all the unnatural things that happen around him.

Oh and his figment familiar is a white raven (possibly a seagull...) they don't get on. I need to pick language for the raven, something Avogadro doesn't speak but someone else does.

Garrett tends to be rather quiet and often just seems to appear behind people, especially big people.

Absolutely. I didn't think folks would respond so quickly. That's awesome!

I'll post something tomorrow to get the caravan rolling.

Hi there! I honestly hadn't expected to get in, shows what I know. :P

My posting schedule will be kind of weird. I post in Pacific Time, but I also work graveyards 7pm - 7:30am doing a week on then a week off. I'll post from work as time allows, but the nature of my job is unpredictable. I'm also less like to make long/good posts on the days that I flip my sleep schedule around.

For the character, Bertrade took the whole idea of "self-perfection though continuous self-improvement" and married it to the idea of "people can't become better versions of themselves if they're dead". Hence her focus on healing and attacking only with unarmed strikes. This may lead to some instances of her stabilizing (or even healing) fallen foes, though she'll cheerfully sock them in the jaw if they act up again.

The first prologue post is up!

;)

@Muradin How do you see CHA 5 playing out, according to paizo you have the presence of a donkey. :P I was thinking of having Avogadro forgetting/not noticing your presence? Are you ok with that?

@Bertrade I think Avogadro may have a burgeoning little boyish crush on Bertrade this will probably manifest as blushing gifts and clumsy acts of service.

@Avogadro: Muradin is an ugly and grumpy dwarf. He's over 100 years old, almost middle aged for his race standards. He is not attractive by any means, not friendly, and doesn't seem to bother enough to be a threatening presence either. He's silent, nonchalant, contemplative, wise, and monk-ish. Outside of that, as players we should probably keep it healthy, so I'd ask to avoid any exaggerations.

For all that she likes to play matchmaker, she's not actually very good at determining what people want; no ranks in Sense Motive will do that! I'll have to figure out if it's more fun for her to notice it or give the "audience" the UST of the will they/won't they arc.

She's very service-oriented, though, so she often tries to actively fade into the background in social situations, or else provide her services as being "useful" in a crowd; i.e., she'll offer to cook for the group, or clean dishes, rather than engage in heavy banter or conversation. One-on-one, she gets surprisingly deep and philosophical.

I'm still here, but I worked 16 hrs night before last, and 12 tonight, and I truly can't think of anything Bertrade might add to the conversation at this particular point. Hopefully I'll get some restful sleep today, and work won't be so crazy tonight.

Despite Silas's snoring, perhaps she's dozing on the other wagon.
Thanks for the heads up. Get some rest, Bertrade. We'll be here.

Sorry for delay. Today was crazy busy with some family drama.
Posting tomorrow. Apologies.

I'm in the same boat - we had a pet in the hospital over the weekend, so I'm a bit more focused on trying to make sure she's eating and comfortable and all that good stuff. I'm still here, just might not have super amounts of brain power to add to things.

Folks, I must apologize. I was sincerely looking forward to this, but on Wednesday my father had the first of three strokes and died in the hospital later that night. I am numb, and more than a bit overwhelmed as my family and I are making arrangements and dealing with this tragedy.

I am afraid that I have to withdraw from this game at this point. I simply don't have the drive to play right now. I hope to return to play at some point in the future, but right now...I don't know.

I'm sorry.

That must be awful GM! Please don't feel you need to apologize to us. You need to look after you and yours in times like this.

Thank you for even starting to run this game. If ever you feel like you want to do anything on these boards again look me up. Even if it's just for a "hi" from a friendly face.

I'll be thinking of you.

Please take all the time you need, GM, and don't worry about this game. Thanks for the opportunity and for engaging to run it, and don't worry about having to withdraw - it's absolutely understandable.
