There are 2 wizards in Sandpoint: a gnome wizard named VEZNUTT PAROOH, proprietor of the Way North, a local repository of maps, and a human wizard named ILSOARI GANDETHUS, headmaster of the Turandarok Academy, part orphanage, part school. The latter is higher level, if that matters.

I think that Ilsoari would work perfectly, mostly because I'm hoping to take the Academy Dropout background. Perhaps my wizard grew up in the orphanage and eventually became a student? Would that be acceptable?

Question: Is there a Wizard NPC in Sandport that a wizard could have apprenticed under?

Leaning hard towards a Wizard...just an FYI

Been waiting to play this AP since forever. Haven't played 2e yet but will quickly brush up on it.
...in other words, Interested! Will get working on a character breakdown right away.

You know, I think I'm going to withdraw at this point. Today's gotten busier than expected, and you seem to have the bases covered.

Have fun!

Crypt of Everflame AND Abomination Vaults??
Definitely interested.

I only just saw this recruitment this morning, but would love to play. That said, I have yet to play any of the 2e stuff, and am not all that familiar with the character creation specifics for 2nd edition (And would have to rush to get up to speed by this afternoon, obviously).

Would you allow me to use one of the iconic characters with some fluff changes? Say, Kyra, the human cleric, just done as a male character with modifications necessary to fit this game?

If not, no harm, no foul. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Folks, I must apologize. I was sincerely looking forward to this, but on Wednesday my father had the first of three strokes and died in the hospital later that night. I am numb, and more than a bit overwhelmed as my family and I are making arrangements and dealing with this tragedy.

I am afraid that I have to withdraw from this game at this point. I simply don't have the drive to play right now. I hope to return to play at some point in the future, but right now...I don't know.

I'm sorry.

Garrett uses the opportunity to poke around under the tarp as Tarrow did, albiet, in the other wagon. The result, however, is much the same. Other than the meager rations Silas mentioned, a few blankets and a small keg of reasonably fresh water, there is simply a wagonload of salt blocks. The individual blocks are divided by small pieces of parchment or waxed paper, but there seems little beyond this to be seen.

Wandering Creatures: 1d20 ⇒ 8

Braggi heads out into the forest in search of prey, and after almost half an hour, finds that much like Tarrow's gatherings, the area has been used to camp often enough that it is less than ideal. The barbarian's efforts are rewarded only with finding a group of squirrels at play.

Perfectly fine to take shots at them, if you wish. 3 of them, AC18.

@Braggi: It's roughly 5 o'clock in the evening, so there's at least an hour, possibly more, to hunt if you'd like.

@Tarrow: (Combining this role with your other roll) Harfoot finds a bit of everything that he's looking for, though, not in large ammounts. It's pretty obvious to him that the area has been picked over before. Not very recently, but no more than a week or so ago.)

"Ahhh, fair Absalom! City at the center of the World!" Silas calls out, "I spent a good deal of time there, once upon a time...". The rotund man grins and shakes his head, lost in thought, before returning to Garrett's question: "Sadly, my good fellow, just more of the same. Potatoes, some jerky. Mayhaps a few carrots, still. Some dried apples, I'm sure. Beyond that..?"

Silas gestures out towards the woods, "Perhaps one of you could supply anything more substantial, if necessary."

For the rest:

Braggi steps aside as Avogadro openly winces when his feet are shocked by the ice-cold brooke. Sadly, it's neither long nor deep, but the sorcerer does find the short stretch refreshing.

Tarrow's efforts with the switch over the stream yield little of use. From the reaction his y-shaped rod, the halfling is sure that the stream dives back underground, and continues on it's journey rather than collecting in a cave somewhere nearby. He is rewarded, however, with the apparent purity of the water, and is pretty sure it would make for a fine brew.

Svala is sure that she spots a shadow overhead...maybe a hawk above the trees...maybe more. Not threatening necessarily as of yet, but...

Meanwhile, Muradin stands guard.

Sorry for delay. Today was crazy busy with some family drama.
Posting tomorrow. Apologies.

And so it goes, with little to no trouble, the two wagons are driven off-road into the clearing, and "parked" so as to leave a large space between them that will allow the vehicles to provide some cover from the weather, if needed.

Stretching and protesting the way his bones and joints creak and pop, Silas climbs down from the wagon bed and sighs, before ambling over to the edge of the clearing.

"Aye, this will work." With that, he sits down heavily, leaning his back against a tree and closes his eyes. "What's for dinner?"

Survival DC/10:
You're able to easily gather both kindling and firewood to make a fire. It's also not lost on you that this site has obviously been used for a stop over before...probably numerous times.

Survival DC/15:
About 30 yards downhill into the woods to the North, there runs a very small stream in a tiny "crevise" only about six inches deep. It starts at the base of a large rock, and only runs visibly across the surface for about a dozen feet before it cuts back down, underground. The water here is clean and surprisingly cold.

Perception DC/10:
Birds and insects sing their songs freely, and other than a gentle breeze rustling through the trees, there's little that seems to be a threat.

The Raven sees little more than forest going on and on for quite a long time. Far to the Southeast, (a day or two, by wagon) there's a river of some sort, but nothing seriously of note near the campsite.

Gumbling, the large man rolls onto his side, and sits up with a groan. "My turn at the reigns, eh? Well, then..." the bald merchant pauses to squint up where the sun was filtering through the forest canopy. "Then by the gawds, it must definitely be time for food!"

This last he delivers with a good-natured laugh, and he gets up to his knees, looking out at the forest. "Damned but if it doesn't all look the same. Just goes on and on, eh?"

Muradin:
Muradin isn't sure, as he's never taken this particular road before, but best guess? Another three and a half days, give or take a few hours. Still, the town of Belhaim does sit only about a day or so away. Also, he spots a reasonable clearing only thirty yards ahead, if the group wishes to stop.

Despite Silas's snoring, perhaps she's dozing on the other wagon.
Thanks for the heads up. Get some rest, Bertrade. We'll be here.

The conversation continues casually enough, but it's momentarily interrupted by a small * WhUmP * as the second wagon hits a small rutt with one of it's wheels. The disturbance would be hardly noteworthy under most circumstances.

However, the bump is enough to jolt Silas Gibb from his slumber, rocking him over to his side. A surprised snort, followed by a few moments of coughing, before the merchant groggily calls out, "Where ARE we? Still in this blasted forest??"

10 pts for the Flippin' Raven, for amusing the GM. I'm good with welsh...so long as you don't expect ME to have to write dialogue in it. ;)

As the others pass the time as they will, Garrett's actions aren't noticed at all as the inquisitive halfling works at the edge of the secured tarp. So secured, in fact, that for a moment, the roguish fellow thinks he might have to abandon his task until some later time.

Still, perseverence and experience often pay off, and Garrett is soon rewarded by an absolutely clear view of...

Spoiler:
...blocks of salt. High grade, probably, though in truth, the halfling isn't really sure. They are an odd color, at least from the rogue's experience, a dull green in color, but beyond that? Who knows. But the fact remains, at least at the front of the wagon, the wall of the wagon bed is packed with bricks of salt, roughly four inches wide and eight inches long. Each is about four inches thick in height.

You can. The tarp is remarkably well-secured. Almost as if Silas was used to having to keep things out of sight. If you want your peeking to go unnoticed by the others, you'll need to roll a slight of hand check.

Meanwhile, Silas snores. The road through the woods seems clear and the forest on each side is deep, green, and without anything particularly noteworthy in sight.

1st Wagon: Muradin (Walking nearby), Bertrade (Rear of wagon), Braggi (Rear of wagon)
2nd Wagon: Harrow (Driving), Avogadro (Next to Harrow), Svala (Walking nearby), Silas (Sleeping in rear of wagon)

So, we still need a driver for wagon #1. Garrett, you up for it?
When he's awake, Silas can drive either wagon, btw.

The first prologue post is up!

;)

Silas Gibb, the rotund and frankly, unattractive man that hired you all to help him deliver two salt wagons from the port city of Cassomil, through the heart of the Verduran Forest, to the gnomish town of Wispil, snores loudly in the rear of the lead wagon, oblivious to the journey.

And while definitely annoying, the rumbling of the pale man’s snores mean that at least he’s not complaining instead. The salt merchant had admitted right away that he was an urban creature, and unused to traveling, but circumstances called for him to make an unusual rush delivery to Wispil, and his usual drivers and wagons were already elsewhere, making deliveries of their own.

So, like it or not, Silas had put out word that he was seeking wagoneers and guards for a five or six day trip to Wispil, the so-called Lumber Capitol of Taldor. The offered pay was decent (10 gp/day each), and for your own reasons, each of you signed on...

The day is warm, but not too hot, and the canopy of leaves above does much to block out a good deal of the sun. The road through the Verduran Forest has thus far been clear and uneventful, and there has been little to do…

There are two wagons, each drawn by two horses. Each wagon needs a driver, and there is a bench for them and one other at the front of the wagons. The cargo on each is covered with tarp that has been lashed down so as to be secure. There is space for three (or four if you don’t mind it “cozy”) in the back of each wagon.

Kindly position yourselves, story-wise, on the wagons (or even walking), and feel free to Roleplay. Consider this the Prologue…

GAME ON!

@GM, would you consider opening Gameplay for us to rp until the adventure starts?

Absolutely. I didn't think folks would respond so quickly. That's awesome!

I'll post something tomorrow to get the caravan rolling.

After a great deal of thought and consideration, I have decided to take (7) characters for this game. Will the following adventurers please make their way to the Discussion Thread?

Avogadro the Astounding - Male Human Sorcerer

Svala Two-Swords - Female Human Fighter

Braggi Wrongeye - Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)

Muradin - Male Dwarf Monk (Zen Archer)

Bertrade Kristna - Female Cleric (Merciful Healer)

Garrett Goodbarrell - Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper)

Tarrow Harfoot - Male Halfling Alchemist (Vivisectionist)

*****

Finally, for anyone who didn't make the cut, believe me when I say that it wasn't for lack of quality or effort on your part. I just couldn't take everyone. Maybe next time?

Good fortune and safe travels!

Welcome, everyone!

After a good deal of thought (and time, sorry 'bout that) I have decided to treat this game the way I would if I were running it for tabletop. That is, I'm going to take more players than I had originally planned, because the submissions and their potential interactions were just too good to pass on.

So, what does this mean for you guys?

With this many of you, the game will, right out of the box, likely be a bit rougher than it's written, but that just makes it more unique and (hopefully) fun for everyone! Besides, who runs modules As-Is, anyway? ;) While there definitely is a linear story here, I've always been a fan of games that more of a sandbox kind-of-feel, anyways.

With seven of you, I'm hoping that:
a) the game will take on an almost epic-type feel... (i.e. Dragonlance or LotR)
b) we shouldn't have to worry about player/character dropout and re-recruitment as much as a 4 player game.

For right now, I'd like to have everyone check in, say Hi, and give a brief description of your character and some basics that would become apparent to the rest of the characters after a few days of traveling together by wagon.

From the "Player's Guide":
Silas is recruiting adventurers and mercenaries in the Taldan port city of Cassomir. You have been recruited as protection for what Silas described as a very delicate cargo that needs to be delivered on quite a tight schedule to Wispil, the Lumber capital of Taldor. However, your travels are interrupted when you arrive at the small town of Belhaim...

The actual game will start sometime this weekend, or on Monday(for anyone who can't post on Saturdays and Sundays). The characters will not quite have reached Belhaim, and will have a day or two of travel in which to interact.

In any event, Welcome, and thanks for your interest in what I hope will be an amazing campaign.

Is it weird I'm checking this thread hourly?

Slightly weird, but in the best of ways.

Apologies. The delay has been unavoidable due to some unforeseen real life drama. That said, the party roster will be posted br Noon EST, tomorrow.

So, Update:

Life is busy for the next two days, AND, more importantly, I'm having a helluva time narrowing the party down.

So, sorry for the delay, but I'll be announcing the characters chosen on Saturday. I appreciate all the effort you guys put into this and want to be fair to everyone.

What's the plan for hosting maps? Google slides, roll20, etc?

At the moment, Google slides, though I'm strongly considering a subscription with rolld20. Not sure yet.

Hi!

Are archetypes allowed? Any restriction on feats?

Tenk iu, tenk iu.

Archetypes allowed.

Without 'Elephant in the Room', there's no Feat restrictions for now, (Though I reserve the right to reject any surprises that seem broken.)

Zephyrrr wrote:

WOW - I had no clue there was a Player's Guide either!

I love this adventure too.

Skald & Witch are base classes, correct?

Witch is Base though Skald, however, is a Hybrid class.

Avogadro the Astounding wrote:

Evening GM. Thank you for running this!

How important is it that the characters are guards on the caravan? Could Avogadro be a passenger instead? I'm not sure he's the wagon guarding type.

I'll be taking the "you're fleeing the law" trait, Avogadro has outstayed his welcome in Cassomir.

A

You don't HAVE to be guards. Being a passener could reasonably work.

Who wants to fight a Dragon?!

Founded by a famous dragonslayer, the small town of Belhaim has become a sleepy rural community just off the beaten path, a settlement where everyone knows everyone and strangers are the talk of the town.

But when Belhaim's peace and quiet is shattered by the sudden collapse of the last standing tower of its founder's castle, things quickly bloom out of control. Why were there bodies of kobolds amid the rubble? What's the sinister secret behind the strange sounds of flapping wings in the night? And what's happened to local wizard Balthus Hunclay, who's not answering knocks on his door? The collapsed tower had long been an eyesore to the cantankerous old man—could he have had something to do with its destruction? And what of the rumors of strange stirrings in nearby Dragonfen?

Has Belhaim's ancient draconic nemesis returned?

The Dragon's Demand, a dungeon and wilderness adventure for 1st-level characters written by Mike Shel, was released in July 2013. This adventure marked a relaunch of the Pathfinder Modules line, offering an increased page count and a two-sided color poster map, and shifting to a quarterly release schedule.

At least One post every other day, Minimum 4 posts a week.
(Would love more, but I am realistic and am also busy in real life, too.)
If for some reason you can’t post, communicate with me. I’m willing to bot characters if necessary.

Will be taking 5 or 6 characters. Keep in mind that I’ll be looking for a balanced party make-up as this game nearly requires it.

This recruitment will remain open until Wednesday, July 20th.

Crisischild wrote:

There was a Dragon's Demand recruitment that got quite a lot of interest two or three months ago, so you can probably count on many applications.

I know you said no third party, but there's a 3rd party "Player's Guide" for this module floating around, if it's something you might be interested in. Link.

Wow. That's rather cool. I'll have to look it over, but maybe I'll use it. Thanks.

Recently got my hands on this adventure, and I'm wondering if there'd be any interest since a quick search of Recruitments has shown me that it's been run on the boards before.

No need to build a full character, just an elevator pitch of the type of PC you would like to play so I can get an idea of what type of group might come together to take on this task.

These are the general guidelines I'd be running with:

1) Paizo only. No third party materials.

2) 20 point buy. Core Classes and Races, all accepted. Base classes possible, but on a case by case basis. Give me a good reason to allow them, in character.

3) No Evil. All other alignments allowed, but with the understanding that the party needs to function, and it'll be up to the characters to have a reason to be working with the group without actively trying to sabotage it.

4) Supposedly the game will to take characters from level 1 to 7. My intention is to follow through, all the way, and hope to enlist players who think likewise. To prevent burnout, I'll only require 4 posts a week. Obviously I'd hope for more, like the usual 1/day, but life happens. Communication is key.

5) New comers to Pathfinder & PbP are welcome.

For now, this isn't a recruitment, just a check...but if there's enough interest, that will change. So what do you say, folks?
