[dice=perception]1d20+3 Altoid Ant will find them.
You're all a little on the "bumbling" side right now.
That said, Norbert is able to put on an act that makes Vanecrys believe they haven't been spotted. As they bolt, Norbert is back on their tail, with the rest of you soon joining.
Vanecarsys passes through a door and locks it behind them.
Unlocking the door requires a
successful Engineering or Sleight of Hand check, or a
successful Athletics check to force the door open.
This is the last one. It's looking good for all of you. There still a couple of opportunities for role-playing following this.
Korth Kothar |
"Thiss will not deter uss." Korth gets out his Custom Rig and starts working on picking the door.
Norbert Smallfoot1 |
I'll see if I can slip my hand in and manipulate the mechanism.
I can't Aid Engineering, so might as well try a Sleight of Hand Check
Sleight of Hand on the door: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
T'Krunch the Famished |
"I think that is an access panel, should you want to bypass the electronic lock," T'Krunch points.
Engineering to Aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
GM Quirk |
Korth makes creative use of leverage to get the door open. Vanecrys is there.
They surrender.
Vanecarsys surrenders, raising their hands and adopting their
natural form. “Before you take me in, I need to see my adoptive
mother. She’s in the hospital, and if she doesn’t get an expensive
radiation treatment, she’ll die. I can afford it now—that’s why I did
all this in the first place. After, I’ll make restitution to everyone I’ve
wronged. But please, let me pay for the treatment first.”
Slide three has a picture of their natural form.
T'Krunch the Famished |
"And manner of morsel are you?" T'Krunch inquires upon seeing Vanecarsys' natural form.
Norbert Smallfoot1 |
I am inclined to take you back to the bartender who hired us, and let them decide about visiting this "adopted mother."
Norbert is not inclined to believe a word this creature says.
Korth Kothar |
He's not very good at it but Korth tries to see if Vanecarsys is lying about the adoptive mother and the treatment.
He believes the excuse. "Perhapss we sshould esscort them to the hosspital."
T'Krunch the Famished |
Noticing the tension between his allies, T'Krunch tries to assess Vanecarsys' truthfulness.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

T'Krunch the Famished |
"Her story seems sincere and certainly plausible," notes T'Krunch. "The barkeep didn't give us a deadline to bring her back, as I recall. I joined the Starfinder Society to help give my brood a leg up when they hatch. I have no trouble accommodating this 'astrazoan' as she cares for one of her family. After all, mothers usually have a few good recipes."

Vanecarsys is beyond grateful. You escort them to a clinic where, sure enough, a loved one is ready to receive a serious medical procedure. Vanecarsys hugs this woman, tells her there is nothing to worry about, and then proceeds with all of you to accounting where they pay for the procedure.
Following this, you escort Vanecarsys to Trazhi. While there, they make arrangements to make restitution to all of the scammed investors using the casino winnings.
Trazhi offers Vanecarsys a choice: turn away from their life of
crime or be turned over to the Stewards. After years
of circumventing the law, Vanecarsys is unsure how to
find legitimate work, so Trazhi offers them a position
at Electric Prism, running their soon-to-be-installed
gaming tables.
I owe all of chronicle sheets! I have a bit of a crazy weekend coming up (I am part of a charity gaming event for a local homeless shelter). With that in mind, I hope early next week will be okay for me to send those out.

Hiya! I'm back from my trip and it looks like I had just missed the ending!
"Well, at least it seems all has ended well. Assuming Vanecarsys doesn't fall back onto their old ways, that is..."
