Please fill in the Character Chronicle information in the link below as well as the Macros link.

I filled in the macros but the Initiative column is calculated and I could not see a way to get Mimi's +2 from Incredible Initiative to be included.
I see some familiar faces signed up. Mimi has played with both Evindal and Hornietelle before. I've also played with Zelphari a couple of times with different PCs. Looks like we've got a good group.

Nice to see you again too Mimi.

All good, put Incredible Init in the comment field at the end and I will add it in.

![]() |

I filled in the macro sheet as well. Evindal's default exploration activity will be Investigate (at least as long as he has a Case to be working on) but it looks like the Macro sheet is defaulting to using Perception for that, which isn't right (it would be Perception or whatever Knowledge-type skill you think is relevant).
Also, I think that Evindal will get +1 to Initiative when he is working on a Case (if the situation is relevant) and can also give a +1 as a Reaction to a comrade (Clue In) once/10 minutes. I'm not sure how best to do that for something like initiative.
I've just added the Investigator archetype, so I'm still figuring out how some of this stuff works for him.
And yes, good to adventure with you again, Mimi.
One other detail: I have one Backfire Mantle to lend to a comrade which will protect them from splash damage from my bombs. Should probably go to a frontliner. Anyone want it?

![]() |

Don't know if it will be relevant but Evindal has the Skillful Mentor boon:
"While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide vital advice to sharpen your newer colleagues’ skills. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to skill checks to 2."

![]() |

I just sent MauveAvengr a PM to check in.
Could each of you please fill in the Macro link and Chronicles link if you have not done so already. this will greatly help us get started on time as I use them to help facilitate combats and secret checks as the game goes on.

Will update Hornietelle's stats to 4th in the next couple of days.

![]() |

I'm taking my kid to the beach for a few days. Likely won't be able to post again until Thursday. Please bot me as needed. Thanks.

![]() |

Evindal is a bomber. He'll use 6 of his 7 reagents to start out with 2 moderate bombs of the six types he knows (leaving 1 reagent in reserve).
He's also just picked up a Backfire Mantle that he would like to loan to a front-liner for the duration of the scenario. Basically gives whomever is wearing it Resistance 3 to splash from his bombs. 1 Bulk and uses your Cloak slot. Anyone want it?

![]() |

We will begin this tomorrow evening at 6pm Central.
I still need the following to fill in the Chronicles link and Macros Link:
Zelphari and Arvax

![]() |

I have 1 glyph, so can hand out a hero point.
Preferably to a 3rd level frontliner, bids in...

I’m not shy. I’ll take it if it’s available.

![]() |

1 hero point to Mimi.. for her swashbuckling deeds.
Not sure that the alchemist or inventor as front liners or not...

![]() |

Evindal will slot a Hireling with Medicine and Midwifery Lore.
Evindal has the Skillful Mentor boon in case anyone is benefiting from a level bump.
Evindal offers a Backfire Mantle to one of his comrades - Arvax or Mimi? - whomever is likely to be on the frontlines. It will protect you from any splash damage from my bombs. Who would like it?

![]() |

This is low tier so no level bumps.

It's yours for the scenario. Basically just means that if two enemies are adjacent to each other I can use splash dmg without worrying whether it will also affect you if you are also adjacent.

Great, thanks!
Looks like I get a +1 bonus to Reflex saves against spells cast by my allies, and resistance 3 to splash damage from attacks made by my allies. Neat.

![]() |

As Hornietelle suggested, it would probably be best if she and Zelphari led the talks with the hobgoblins. Her Diplomacy of +11 and his of +9 are the highest of the group. Mimi's comes in third with +8, with Mindartis next at +6.

![]() |

I would be answering, but just a bit confused by the description of whose mug was tipped over and where?
Also is this really the first we have heard of this 'reminding Jolinaxus that he should continue serving as prolocutor to present the Society's position.'
I'm confused although Hornietelle would be able to take these things in her stride...

![]() |

Raike's (Leader of the Aspis) mug was tipped over just outside the Meeting Hall.
This is the time to let Drussem know who you wish to speak for your group instead. Jolinaxus will simply introduce you group.

![]() |

Was there anything of interest on the red vellum that Mimi palmed in Morgroar's hut? Incontrovertible evidence of a plot between Morgroar and the Aspis agents might come in handy soon.

![]() |

It makes no sense on what is in it currently. It looks to be a cipher for secret messages.

![]() |

@Mimi- You are not in a flanking position, do you have an ability you are using to make the creature FF?
Sorry, I should have been more clear in my post. Mimi has the Tumble Behind feat which she uses when she does a Tumble Through action. It states: When you Tumble Through successfully, the foe you Tumbled Through is flat-footed against the next attack you make before the end of your turn.

![]() |

Ah excellent, figured I was missing something as Swashbucklers have a lot of shenanigans. :P

![]() |

At the risk of unreasonably metagaming here, I'm interested in people's thoughts about how I might adapt my alchemist for the future for situations like this. There's been lots of online commentary about the weaknesses of the Alchemist class in 2e but this is the first time I've personally been in a situation where my build felt sort of futile.
Crit missing on a 14 suggests to me that these beasties have an AC of at least 25. (Of course there's always the possibility that they have some special ability vs ranged attacks, are taking cover, or some other shenanigans - let's ignore those possibilities for the moment). The AC by level chart in the GMG indicates that an AC 25 would be Extreme (i.e. toughest) for a level 5 creature. Evindal is level 3, so it would make sense that he can barely touch a creature that is at the hardest difficulty for AC for level 5, but that leaves me scratching my head a bit and wondering what other tactics I could be using here.
Any ideas?

![]() |

Based on the numbers we've seen publicly, Green has had: 24 <= AC <= 26 (a 14 crit fail means it has an AC of at least 24, not 25). It also appears to be the case that Green is a weakened version of Red, which means that we can use what we learned from Green to inform us as to Red's numbers (I'll let you do the math). Looking at the Building Creatures guidelines, based on those numbers, we're dealing with a moderate level 6 or high 5 Red, with a one level down Green.
Bottom line is that any creature 3+ levels higher than us is going to be tough, real tough. The only thing going for us is that there's (now) only one of them and thus only 3 actions to be used against us every round versus our 18 actions with the option of flanking.
So don't kick yourself for being seemingly ineffective in this encounter. Mimi and Zelphari have been getting pretty good rolls, whereas Evindal (and Mindartis) have been rolling bad to average. We all have +9 or +10 attack bonuses, so it could just as easily have turned out the other way. I guess what I'm saying is that you shouldn't throw in the towel on your build just yet.
Unfortunately, I've never played an alchemist and so am in no position to offer substantial suggestions. Just keep throwing bombs until they start hitting, but keep in mind that with an AC >= 26, we'll need to be rolling 17+ to hit if we don't catch them flat-footed.

![]() |

Indeed, you both are spot on. This is a severe encounter so most characters are going to seem a bit ineffective. I will open up a bit more once the fight is over.

Hey guys, sorry for disappearing. My mom was in a serious accident. Spent a lot of time with family and was focusing on time with them. Talked with the GM briefly, but got sick with Covid immediately afterwords. Had no energy to post!
Lemme read up on everything and will push out an update soon.

![]() |

Again sorry to hear all of that Arvax. It is a rough deal. :(

![]() |

Yikes, Arvax! Sending you and your mom good thoughts!

![]() |

Incidentally, this is the first time since playing PF2e that I'm having an appreciation of what was lost by dropping the notion of Touch AC (which I think was a very good decision overall). The notion that these enormous landsharks are impossible to hit with a bomb seems sort of odd (though, again, overall I think the multiple kinds of AC in PF1e added unnecessary complexity for beginners and also lent itself to unreasonable shenanigans - yes, gunslingers, looking at you - so getting rid of it was a good idea.

![]() |

Mimi, note that there's nothing that prevents you from trying to Tumble Through a second time if you fail the first. Since it doesn't have the Attack trait there's no MAP penalty. I've found that very useful with my swashbuckler. Though of course it would mean not getting the +2 to AC from your parry.

You're right, of course. And if Mimi does succeed at getting Panache, then she still gets half the precise damage on a failed subsequent attack with Confident Finisher (which wouldn't have been much worse than the 2 hp she just inflicted). Still, the picture of Mimi throwing herself under the beast repeatedly strikes me as a little ridiculous; too bad there isn't another way to get panache.
I'll consider it for next round, assuming Zelphari, Arvax and Mindartis don't finish the bad boy off before then.

![]() |

Yes, it's one of the things about the class that I'm noticing - since every Swashbuckler only has two ways of getting panache, when you run into something that is immune to your Style, then you are stuck just Tumbling repetitively. In theory you should be able to come up with creative other ways to get panache but I haven't found a good way to do that yet. I feel like the class overall would benefit from having some more varied ways of getting panache (maybe something like the way the Bard get dip into other muses it would be good if the Swashbuckler could dip into other Styles?).

![]() |

If no one will benefit from this, she will swap that spell out the next time she prepares for the day.
If we're talking about Magic Weapon, then it is still of use. Yes, we don't get the +1 to attack added to our already +1 weapons, but the extra die of damage from Striking is still quite useful. Once everyone has +1 Striking weapons though (hopefully when Mimi next levels up), the spell essentially becomes useless.

![]() |

All good Arvax, We kept you going. Hop on in.

![]() |

Assuming the tunnel in Greeleep's hut leads somewhere interesting, then it would be good to have the whole gang together in case we run into trouble. Not sure how to get Arvax, Hornietelle and Zelphari into the hut though.
Another option is to leave the hut and go into the bullete tunnels with everyone. I suspect that the hole in Greeleep's hut joins up with those tunnels, but if that isn't the case, then we'll need to return to this hut later.
Given all the evidence we've collected, it seems that Greeleep is probably not a halfling but is quite likely the kobold shaman mentioned in Raike's journal in disguise. The one that is able to control the bulettes and use them for mining. Given that Raike put the shaman's whole clan to the blade, Greeleep is probably working for Raike under duress. If we find him, then we might be able to turn him against the Aspis in exchange for his freedom.

![]() |

Would Hornietelle's charm person be able to send him somewhere else long enough?

![]() |

Accordingly, a PC who succeeds at a Diplomacy check to Request can convince Eloqi to agree to a trade agreement with the Pathfinders Society. A critical success is required to secure an exclusive trade agreement. Each piece of Evidence presented that casts bad light upon the Aspis lowers the DC of the check.
Is it one check for the whole group or one check per PC?
If the first, then I suggest that Hornietelle with her Diplomacy +11 be the one to make the main Request roll, with Zelphari (+9), Mimi (+8), and Mindartis (+6) attempting a DC 20 roll to Aid.

![]() |

One person speaking for the group.

![]() |

I agree with Mimi. Mindartis will hold on the aid as Zelphari has a higher chance of succeeding. But Mindaartis will present the evidence he got from Greelep's hut.
