Rough, dwarven, stone-carved flowers. His auburn locks are highlighted by these fashionable accessories ensuring none notice the Headband of Power cleverly concealed beneath, until it is too late.

Noticing the oncoming dusk-Unless someone has other ideas, we should follow the trail until the lighting is a problem for the rest of you. At that point we take a rest and pick up the trail at first light.
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Halafrin Mistweaver |

Earlier to Chack-a little sheepishly-I don't have light memorized. Always just have some oil and a fire source handy. If you think it would be useful, I'll trade out one of my existing spells for it tomorrow.
Now-I could do with a rest. My eyes will be good as long as the sky is clear tonight, but I certainly don't see as well as a dwarf.
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

DM Darkvision |

Patience Dwol.
The party continues on for maybe another hour the path becoming harder for Garric to follow as the light fades. Under the forest canopy the light is already muted while the sun is up but shortly after it sets it pretty much becomes pitch black, too dark for most of the party to proceed without a light source.
The group needs to decide whether to push on with some sort of light or to camp for the night.

Dwoldrean Brewbelly |

Let's set up camp; no fire tonight I'm afraid. That would be a troll magnet for sure. I'll keep watch for the night, but any of you are welcome to join me.

I forgot what a baby you are when you don't get to sleep on something soft Hal. Don't worry, this builds character and will make you lest tasty when the trolls start gnawing at you. Probably spit you right out!
Have a look about Garric and see if you can't pick up the trail again. I have a feeling today is going to be a busy day.
Same marching order as last (Garric up front)
perception once we get going: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

DM Darkvision |

Garric finds the tracks again, the rain is making them less distinct but they’re not difficult to follow. After traveling close to an hour, the group catches the sound of something large coming down the path towards them. Arrival sounds imminent but you can’t see more than 20’-30’ due to thick forest and the precipitation.

Dwoldrean Brewbelly |

Dwol quickly inspects his gear and moves to the front of the group-By me Chack, Garric be handy with the arrows, and Hal watch the back so you don't get eaten by surprise. Whatever is coming might be friendly and lost or it might need to kiss my axe.
He then reaches out with his detect evil as far as he can. As soon as/if he senses any evil he will activate his angelic bond for 10 rounds: acts as protect evil spell for all PCS +3 saves/AC & other stuff.

Dwol activates his angelic bond lending protection to his companions. Garric fumbles with his bow the precipitation making it too slippery for him to get any shots off. Chack slashes the troll across its left leg. Hal summons a ball of fire but the troll evades it.

Dwoldrean Brewbelly |

Taking my own advice: Dwol's AC is actually now 30 vs. the troll due to his-defensive training: +4 dodge AC vs. giant subtype-
Careful with that fire Hal; it's supposed to burn the troll not keep it warm!
Dwol keeps the giant creature squarely in front of him and hacks away.

Chack misses for once. Garric puts two arrows into the troll’s chest. Dwol takes a chunk out of it with his war axe while Hal bombards it with fire and acid felling the creature.
*no sneak attack for Hal though, would require him to move from his current position behind Dwol and Chack, unless I’m missing something?

The group can still hear growls and barking on either side of the path but can’t see anything yet.

Halafrin Mistweaver |

-You miss nothing Darkvision; never sure of my specific placement so just input my sneak damage and trust you to rule on it. I try to move when I can to set it up, but flaming sphere is a move action to direct.-
Halafrin keeps the -flaming sphere- centered in the path (3/5) ready to direct to threats at a moments notice. In the meantime he gives himself a dose of mage armor.
