Thyrik Kraggsnev |

Thyrik has a hand weapon already & armor 1 for just body. He'd take the second jack if one is available but is more interested in a buckler.
Thyrik rummages around in the available equipment, glad to have some additional tack on hand.

Gottfried Daimler |

Rush it, says the street thug turned wannabe honest citizen. Its always worked for me.
He explains that the group should stealthy approach the building in question, check the door then rush in with overwhelming force.

Thyrik Kraggsnev |

I didn't hear any objections, so Thyrik will take one of the bucklers. With the way shields work, he'll typically just use the shield for the Defensive quality to avoid the -20 offhand penalty on defensive tests.
"If we know where our enemies are, that's good enough for me. Let's not waste more time."

DM Lil" Eschie |

Night has fallen across the land, and only Morrslieb rises above the mountains and forests, casting a chill light, causing the winds of magic to blow strong and the dead to stir. It’s as if the viridian light could snuff out the town’s candles, and lamps.
The doors to homes are shut fast, and locals wrap themselves tightly in bed, fearful of what evil stalks the land. There is no light coming from the small houses. No one alive roams the few streets. Hallt is as silent and as dark as a tomb.
You open the gate of the town, and the sight sends shivers down your spine: outside of the walls, the snow falls and the layer of whiteness, which is considered as pure and innocent, is stained by the tainted light of the green moon.
Soon, the wolfs howl. You cannot see them, but you can hear them. Are they far enough?
In the distance, the pale light coming from the old windmill, standing up the hill and silhouetted by Morrslieb, calls you.
You won't have to find your way to the windmill, the general direction is obvious enough. You can either try to be discreet (Stealth rolls with 10 bonus), and take longer to walk to the windmill, risking an encounter, or charge the way through

Gottfried Daimler |

The youth walks quickly, clearly trying to put on a brave face and what he thinks is a 'ard expression but one that makes him look fiercely constipated.
Lets get in there... no mucking' bout.

Thyrik Kraggsnev |

Thyrik admired the human's boldness, but attempted to stick to the shadows while keeping up. Mixing the two approaches proved overly difficult however.
Stealth (Rural) - Agility 24 +10: 1d100 ⇒ 70

DM Lil" Eschie |

The bunch of adventurers walks at a brisk pace in the snow, hoping to reach the windmill before... what? They don't know, but they feel something will happen. And of course, it won't be something good.
Meanwhile, Thyrik follows them, more discreetly, or at last he hopes so. The fact that, being a dwarf, he already walks slower than the humans doesnt help.
He hears the wolves, which seem much closer that he'd like to.

DM Lil" Eschie |

you trod in the snow, Thyrik way behind you.
The windmill seems closer, guided by Hans, who seems to have to knack to retain his bearings despite the snowy winds.
Unfortunatly, the howls of the wolves are closer too.
You tries to walk quicker, and Brunhilde and Felver calls for the dwarf, hoping, maybe, for his short legs to stretch.
Perception roll (visual)-10: 1d100 ⇒ 33
Perception roll (audible)-10: 1d100 ⇒ 37
Imrik is the only one to spot two very different things: one seems to be a tall and burly man, not too far away between you and the windmill. The other is an horseman, coming from the wilderness, in the distance.
There seem to be three or four different howls, for the moment... But more will come, surely.

Gottfried Daimler |

The youth hurries in the direction of the man... is he the ally they need or the cause of the appearance of the horseman? Who can tell but he's pretty sure that Bugger is important.
Oi, you there!, he calls out, subconsciously lapsing into the speech of a watchman, so often used against him in his checkered past, Whats' all this about and what are you doing mucking about here?

DM Lil" Eschie |

whoever the man facing you in the falling snow bellows back, while showing off a massive two handed axe
You are the ones in the bad place. Get off, and maybe you will live longer. Maybe even a few hours more.
You can't recongnise the voice, and the man's face is too far. But his intentions are clear. The fact that he faces your whole group without fear is quite unsettling
He's maybe 30 feet from you, and the windmill is still a hundred feet farther. Snow will bring a small malus to ranged attack

Gottfried Daimler |

Well... I'm for wearing the rude sods guts for garters but let's try sweet talk first eh?, he replies to Hans.
The youth yells back to the figure.
Look here Bruv, if yer here to put paid to any re-appearing headless horseman then we're in the market to help. If'n yer here to do something sodding Eldritch we'd jus as have it you'd sod off an' leave the place alone. We don't care about it that much being newcomers and all buuuut a jobs a job.

Gottfried Daimler |

Bow 30: 1d100 ⇒ 23
Gonna use the horseman's sword on this git now... anyone want this bow?

Gottfried Daimler |

I mean I will hand it over after I shoot with it in case someone wants to shoot into melee

DM Lil" Eschie |

There was only one bow in the arsenal (July 11 post, only a few posts higher on this page. I'm glad I checked the rulebook, I supposed the range of bows was in feet, when it's in yards. So a short bow with medium range of 20 can shoot up to 60 feet. The foe is at 30 feet, so short range (half medium range), giving +20 to hit, while the snow gives a small malus (-5). Gottfried succeed with (30+20-5-23=22) SL2. Arrows get a base +2 damage. He hits the right arm
Base dmg, SL, armor, Tough: 1d10 + 2 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 - 4 = 9
Despite the snow, the arrow flies true, and buries itself deep in the big man's arm. He screams in incredulous pain, which changes to a scream of pure fury and hate as he charges at Gottfried, axe raised high
Neither Gottfried, who acted, or Thyrrik, who is too far, can act this round. The NPC will act after the PC
foe Initiative: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Konrad Initiative: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Hans Initiative: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Fortunatly, both Konrad and Hans can act before the axe-wielding maniac, and maybe protect Gottfried

Gottfried Daimler |

Can I use my turn to knock the axeman off-balance using my shield to open him up to my allies' counterattack?
Really cool idea

DM Lil" Eschie |

Sure, I'll allow a shield charge, with a Weapon Skill check (it's a buckler, not a very big shield, so there's not much impact. Would be a Difficult check normally, but the foe (and the GM) didn't expect that) , Then You'll get a Strenght check (with a +10 bonus for the charge, and the SL from the previous test) vs his Dexterity check. If you fail the test, he will have a attack against you, Hans. Remember you can use a Fortune point to either re roll a test or get a +1 SL to the test

DM Lil" Eschie |

With BS -5, thats a big failure (WS 31)
Hans nearly lose his footing in the treacherous snow, and put himself in a very dangerous situation, as the big man facing him aim at his body with his massive axe.
Only Konrad can help him now... The axeman is focused on Hans, sensing he's an easy target, and he will probably put all his weight and power in the attack: out of balance, he should be less able to defend himself.
Konrad has better initiative.. and he better land a strike
Foe attack (63): 1d100 ⇒ 6 SL +5
foe defense (63): 1d100 ⇒ 66 SL 0
Critical failure on the defense; Opps table: 1d100 ⇒ 67 stumble and lose next move (so maybe no attack)

DM Lil" Eschie |

Botting Konrad
Attack 53: 1d100 ⇒ 96 SL -4
defense 53: 1d100 ⇒ 1 SL 5
In a comedy of errors and mistakes, Hans, rushing to the rescue, lose his footing on the slippery snow.
By instict, he tries to break his fall by reaching, with his hand, on the closest thing: the madman's already wounded arm.
As Konrad's hand catches the arrow embedded in the arm, the burly man screams in pain and nearly loses his own grip on the handle, and the blade never strikes his intended target: Hans's head
He curses his bad luck, while Konrad manages to regain his balance, ready to parry any future attack.
Meanwhile, Imrik and the others try to help the dwarf, who strugles in the snow. In the distance, the horseman comes closer, his mount on full gallop. The wolves call, and run, trying to surround the lonely horseman
New round! Everyone can act!
Gottfried Initiative: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Thyrik Initiative: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
NPC Initiative: 1d10 ⇒ 6
Order of Action: Hans/ Gottfried/ Konrad/NPC / Foe/ Thyrik

DM Lil" Eschie |

Will give informations in Discussion thread. Could you roll for Defense too, using your WS, Hans?
Attack (63): 1d100 ⇒ 22 SL+4 with Critical attack, Localisation Left arm
Defense (63): 1d100 ⇒ 39 SL +3
So, taking your rolls, and as shown in the discussion thread: Hans rolled 25, and his WS is 31. So his total SL is +1 (3-2, you only use the ten number.) His Opponent rolled better, 39 vs a WS of 63, so his SL is 6-3=3. Any double is a Critical, either Critical success if you rolled under your score, or Critical Failure when you rolled above. Here, in two rounds, we had both, first a Critical failure on Defense from the foe, now a Critical Success on Attack. Not very good news for Hans, but his allies will act before the foe can attack, fortunately. So Hans, with his handaxe (normal weapon, no bonus to damage), will do 1d10+SB+SL damage (here 9+3+1=10), hitting the Body (25 inversed give 52, you hit body between 45 to 79). The foe managed to parry some of the blow ,but he has no armor. He will substract his Toughness Bonus (4) and his own Defense SL (3), total 7, thus reducing the damage from 10 to 3 (10-7).
Hans strike makes a cut in the man's belly, but its not a very deep wound, and the foe is still standing, if barely, nearly enraged at the peasant. But one or more wound and he's down.Wounds remaining 4

Gottfried Daimler |

The lad uses the headsmans sword to attack after dropping the bow.
WS50: 1d100 ⇒ 5
If this sword is WS basic then it's 50. If the sword is some sort of heavy blade etc then it's basic WS of 40

Thyrik Kraggsnev |

It looks likely that Gottfried is going to take down the axeman. If so, Thyrik will move over to...help?...the horseman. Or see if they are a friend/foe. Maybe fight some wolves if they come out...hard to say for sure.

DM Lil" Eschie |

@Gottfried: it's an axe, not a sword, but considered as a basic weapon with Impact (only when you are on higher ground than your target). So your base WS is 50,+20 for being 2 against one, so total SL +7
Weapons clang feverishly in the dark, as Gottfried and the foe exchanges strikes and parries.
Finally, Gottfried manages to land another blow in the man's gut, widening the wound made by Hans.
Still, the foe is, amazingly, standing into the bloodied snow, maybe not realising how bad he's hurt.
Soon, reality comes knocking to his brain, and the foe kneels in the foe, blood gushing from his wounds, before falling face down on the ground.
Hit location 50, body dmg, Gott SL, Gott SB, - Foe SL, - Foe TB: 1d10 + 7 + 4 - 3 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 - 3 - 4 = 5, entering negative wounds so Critical -1:Body critical: 1d100 ⇒ 8, Bleeding 1
Thyrik moves back toward the horseman, nearly surrounded by wolves. He might have spurred his mount, as the horse gains speed, with the wolves following him, still howling into the wind.
The dwarf understand that he will soon be passed by the horseman, and will have to face the wolves himself. He hears the shouts of the elf, screaming him to coming back.
The woman-Brunhilde, wasn't it? A tavern wench or something like that- shouts again, saying that the wolves will have enough to eat tonight, with their bleeding foe, unless Thyrik wants to be on the menu too...

Gottfried Daimler |

S#!*! The wolves! Into the windmill!

DM Lil" Eschie |

Athletics+10(46): 1d100 ⇒ 61
You all start to run, some of you being slower than the others, lacking in athletic prowess or being simply short legged.
Still, fuelled by fear, you do your best. Imrik is the first to reach the door of the windmill, followed by most of your group. Only Udo and Thyrik close the ranks, Udo being a little short of breath.
You glances behind you, and see that Brunhilde's grim promise has been fulfilled: the wolves indeed feast on your fallen and bleeding foe. But you are sure they will seek more meat.
But your fear gains in intensity as you watch the horseman reaching the windmill not too far from you...
It's none other than the Dullahan!
Felver and Konrad already reaches for their weapons, as Brunhilde covers in fear behind Udo.
Imrik, the elf, realises that the door is locked and closed, and sturdy.
Whatever you do must be done quick!
I'll let the players decide of the actions of the NPC. The door lock must be picked, but its a good lock (Lockpicking skill needed, or a spell), the door can be kicked/smashed/ cut to pieces; the Dullahan, so far, hasn't attacked you.

DM Lil" Eschie |

@Thyrik: a Challenging (+o ) STR check if you just kick the door or ram your shoulder in it. You'd get a bonus for using a weapon (+5 for a dagger, +10 for a sword or hand axe, +20 for an axe or any large 2 handed weapon), but the door would be unusable afterward
@Hans, I checked: there are some windows, but they are closed and chained

Gottfried Daimler |

Aaaand now back. Thanks everyone for their patience
Dammit, I thought that guy was the Dullahan... doing wizard s+##e

Thyrik Kraggsnev |

Well, this could be embarrassing or not...
Seeing that none of his companions had ideas to finesse the situation, Thyrik opted for a more direct approach. "Out of the way!" he shouted as he lowered his shoulder and charged at the door.
Going to ask for a bonus from charging, but I won't apply it on the roll here.
That isn't great. I might choose to use Fortune on it but will wait to hear if I get any modifiers like a charge bonus first.
