Kunala |
Very cool Rizz! Hey everyone, I noticed a lot of familiar faces from previous WoT games!
I'm still working out Kunala's backstory but never fear it will be done soon. Just trying to cross T's and dot I's.
While I'm at it, does anyone know the proper form for using 'Lord' or 'Lady' in WoT. There's a lot of 'Lord of this' or 'Lord of that'. But when they refer to someone as Lord 'such and such', do they use the first Name or the Family name?
To simplify, would it officially be Lord Perrin or Lord Aybara?

Ceirn |

Howdy and thanks for the invite!
I think its usually Lord (first name) in the books. But that may just be kingdom specific.

Niketsu Sedai |

Every country in the real world tends to have their own rules, but the books never seem to observe any, probably an effect of being written by someone from a country that never had any lords.
In the UK and parts of Europe, a sitting monarch is Your Majesty, and a member of the royal family is Your Highness. Lord's are supposed to be addressed by their title only, such as Lord of the Two Rivers, which may be neither first or last name. However, in the books, Cairn is right; they always seem to just use Lord Firstname.
I always thought it odd that in the entire series, Elayne is never referred to as a Princess, not even in passing, or in someone's internal monologue. It is always just Daughter Heir.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

"We all walk in the Light and the Light shines from us that the Dark may find no place to rest."
--------------------------------
@Kunala - no idea! I'm interested to know too, although Luce is used to calling everyone 'Child X' so this whole Lord/Lady thing will be tricky!
@Niketsu - is 'Princess' actually a recognised term in Andor? I though the term was 'Daughter Heir' and any other daughters are just members of the appropriate family.

Adroushan |

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose around 7 new Hunters. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
Sweet! And, thank you! Hello All!
Adroushan will be your Doctor. I am basing him off of Matt Smith's Doctor....lol. Although, he does have an addiction to alcohol, which makes him a bit more like Matt Cuthon who can channel...lol.
EDIT: I've seen it!

Janus Dagolin |

Janus was a skinny youth, looked down upon by most boarder landers He came south escorting Niketsu as more of a groom then an armsman. It was Hammar that first saw potential in him. Hammar saw th eboys potential and offered him training as Gaidin.
Janus feels he is not worthy of the title of warder, or of Niketsu Sedai's bond, but he is too stubborn to ever admit that.

Kunala |
Oh, I thought maybe you were talking about the amazon show... I was going to say, sadly I've seen it too. And worse, my wife and daughter are watching it so they think This is what I was all excited about all those years. I spend more time explaining what they got wrong than anything else.
I mean how hard could it be? They ignored the fact that the group met back up in Caemlyn, how can you write out going to Caemlyn in the first book?

Morel |

Rizzen, do you have a way you want me to handle prices and weight for Ogier sized items? Was looking in the book for it, but if it's there I'm blind.
Also, it doesn't appear they've added much in the way of Ogier appropriate profile pics since I was here last. lol

RIZZENMAGNUS |

@morel: Just apply 1.5x the price to get Ogier sized prices.
Yeah, ive seen the...thing being displayed upon the amazon streaming service. It's what prompted this whole campaign in the first place.
Also, i posted a prologue on the gameplay thread. As many of you who have played with me in the past, especially WOT games, i like to start the adventure off similar to the books, with a prologue, and at random times when i feel the wheel turning in my head, a random short story about elsewheres in the world. It's a fun way to flex my creative writing muscles. Just read the prologue, but dont respond to it on the gameplay thread.
I'll set the starting point, and you guys will be able to get the *ahem* Wheel turning.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

I created a discord channel for our group to chat in outside of paizo, if you feel inclined to. I did this because a few years ago, Paizo had a website failure where people couldnt sign in for a few days. I know I, along with some players, were rather annoyed with this. By having the discord server set up, it provides us not only a place to continue to play the game should paizo crash again, but also a chance for us to BS with each other. It also provides us with an easy, quick opportunity to alert the group if something IRL is happening and he/she cannot play for a while.
If you dont like discord, and dont want to be a part of the server, that is fine. No worries.
I dont want people to think that this is a requirement to play in the game. it is just a value add that I rather enjoy.
The link is valid for one day. Once youre on there, please change your nickname to that of your characters so we all know who each person is.
Fancy link to the Discord server
Hope to see you there!

Adroushan |

Ok! That Prologue and intro post just blew my mind! I was totally back in memory of my initial reading of the Books!
I will need to reread and digest and refocus on a initial post....
I am speechless. Thank you, Rizzenmagnus for the tidal wave of fun and enjoyable memories, and this platform to revive them!

Can I have a wooden practice knife or just a stick that can be used with weapon finesse? Technically, there is no rules for the wooden practice knife, but they should exist.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

Luce has 7 cha so I'm explaining that a couple of ways, all of which blame the Whitecloaks.
First of all she's neat but not exactly attractive. A few old scars and the buzz-cut doesn't make her exactly a beacon of femininity. She's also not good at social interactions outside of an armed camp so she'll mess up manners, be accidentally (or maybe deliberately) rude a fair bit and generally should not be the one introducing the party anywhere!

i dont see why not. size small, dmg 1d2. heck, you could just have your character whittle one out of a piece of wood found on the side of the road.

Ceirn |

The main purpose of it is to use with the Wand of Fire weave. Cool. It is on my sheet.

Ceirn |

@Rizzenmagnus I thought when I built the character that Eliminate Block was just innate to guys so I didn't state my block. Since I didn't state it I thought I would let you pick which you thought would make the most sense.
I was thinking I could bypass the Block either when I was hyped up on adrenaline or when the opposite was true and I was serene. If you think something else makes more sense we can go with that.
Or I can switch out the last feat for the Eliminate Block if that is easier.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

Probably. 'Lord' tends to be a generic title for nobility without any particular connotations.
It would depend on his parents and whether they stand to inherit though. Non-inheriting grandchildren don't usually get titles via their grandparents.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

He'd have lost the Lord title then. His father would be a lord by courtesy, but he'd be a plain 'Mr'.

You can play with the block still in place, and only when the surge of combat is upon you can you channel? thats very valid. would make for some intersting RP opportunities.
or you can remove a feat and take eliminate block. thats fine too

Ceirn |

Adrenaline Rush it is. I have listed that on my character sheet.
What action is it for me to veil up before a combat? Move, Swift, Free? Hopefully, not standard. :P

Luce, Light's Shadow |

Niketsu hasn't outed herself as an Aes Sedai yet has she? Or did I miss it?

Ceirn |

Yeah, its just in her name. I edited my post.

Niketsu Sedai |

I have not. It is in the name because it is a recycled Alias from an old game. Likely no one would suspect it was likely, or even possible for her to be Aes Sedai, as she probably looks about 16-17, though she is actually in her mid twenties.
She'll likely not reveal it until necessary, even if she has to reveal her Channeling at an earlier date.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

How long has she had her GS ring? Luce is trained to look at every other woman as a possible Aes Sedai so stuff like a band of pale skin on the usual ring finger would make her paranoid. :D

Niketsu Sedai |

She would have had it as an accepted, which one assumes was a period of 4-5 years. She would have gained the right to wear it on ant finger just recently, say about a month. That would be enough time for the old tan line to fade, but whether she had a new one based on where she was wearing it recently is debatable. I think since she is trying to go incognito, she would have taken it off right after leaving the tower, and been traveling in the sun without it, so any tan line is probably unlikely, but not impossible.

Niketsu Sedai |

I have a few thoughts and questions, but most concern only Rizzen, and Janus, as my warder. I'll spoiler the questions, but I don't mind if people read them, as long as they can keep player and character knowledge separate.
A Shambayan (if you didn't already know) is basically a chief of staff, or head retainer for a lord (or lady, I suppose). It would be his responsibility to manage all her other staff (if she had any). The wellbeing of the lord or lady is their chief concern, so the title seemed at least somewhat applicable. Fialle appoints Master Gill her Shambayan in a later book, meaning they must be used in more than just Shienar, as since Arafel lies between Shienar and Saldaea, use of the term probably does too.
I thought I would check in with Janus in regards to the specifics of their relationship. What made him willing to bind his fate, life or death, to a slip of a girl he has seen all his life, but probably not talked to that often? What was their relationship like? I always thought it odd that the relationships are not more often depicted as romantic, as well as practical; a Warder is for all intents and purposes married to his Aes Sedai. Aes Sedai are too busy to have a marriage outside their tasks, so whether they bonded their husband or married their Warder, the effect would be the sake. I sounds like there is an obvious class divide between the two, that might make them decline to even consider the idea, as she is a noble, and he is 'help.'
Third, I need help picking an Ajah. All have an extra bonus, as lister in Dragon Banner. I wanted to consider good story reasons first. Green makes sense because of her family history, obsession with sword fighting, and the blight. However, Green feels too stereotypical. Blue works well, as what amounts to the intelligence wing of the Aes Sedai, dedicated to being out and among the people, and getting involved in their causes. Yellow is always straightforward; I healer needs no other motivation to practice her skill. The last I was considering was Brown. Not all forgotten knowledge is to be found in dusty old libraries and books. Some small minority of the Browns choose to explore the world and finding ancient places, and exploring the secrets they hold first hand. The big advantage of that is that it grants Gleeman's Lore, basically a bardic lore skill that is likely to be frequently handy.
Forth, Rizzen, I rolled a positive for an Unknown-Ter'angeal, so I wanted to check to see what you might have in mind. My first thoughts would be to have an Angreal, but alternatively, an heirloon Power-Forged sword might be pretty cool to have too, and make me competative enough with the men at arms in the group that I am able to hold my own with them, and maintain the ruse longer.
I have more thoughts to discuss, but it's late and I should sleep.

Kunala |
So if you folks hadn't figured it out, Rizz gave me the hook with the book. Said since I offered to 'finance' the thing in recruitment that he'd tie it together with an idea he had. So trying to get it going.
Niketsu, Kunala answered your question with what he feels is a logical answer, of course he has a wisdom of 7 so take it as you see fit. Do you have any other questions?
I don't want to be a curmudgeon, but PBP games are a thing of momentum, your posting here, but not addressing the situation in game. I'd rather not take your opinions or actions for granted.
Again, not trying to be a jerk, but even a small post acknowledging your ready to move on helps.
Janus, you too, you don't get to hide behind her. If there is something we can do to make it easier please let us know. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just want to keep a reasonable pace so no one looses interest.

Janus Dagolin |

Sorry for the lack of post, work went a little sideways as the hardware we where waiting on finally arrived so I had to spend a-lot of time deploying.
I think it would be interesting for him to begin to see you as a person as time goes on, Not the obligation to your dead brother or even the holder of his bond.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

THe cloak, in game terms, is a ter'angreal cold weather cloak. when a person wears it, it grants them immunity to all cold weather conditions that would require a fort save.

Niketsu Sedai |

Basically it would be the equivalent of a pathfinder Endure Elements (level 1 spell).

Niketsu Sedai |

Canadians melt in the heat; everyone knows that.
Sorry about messing up the time/distance estimates. I had just recently reread the first few books (so I could compare notes when I thought the series might actually be based on something more than the barest impression of them), and book 3 has Moiraine and company travel from Arad Doman to Tear in about a month, so I was immediately kinda shocked at a 3 month estimate. In Book 4 Elayne and Nyneave sail from Tear to Tanchico in 3 weeks, which was said to have been probably twice as fast as it would have taken if they weren't on a raker. In book 2, when Rand transports them via portal stone from Cairhein to Tomon Head, they appear three months later, which Veren says is longer than it would have taken them to ride the same distance.
The travel times are not always consistent between books, and the measurements are not the same as ours either, which tends to mess things up. A mile in WoT is 1000 spans, of which each is 2 strides, so we get a distance of about 2000 yards, which is a bit longer than an imperial mile. A league (very often the unit of measure used for long distances in the books) is usually 3 miles in English speaking countries, but is different in just about every other country, sometimes more, sometimes less. In WoT, I think a league is mentioned as 4 miles, but I could be misremembering that. A few commentaries I've read complain a bit that distances and travel times are inconsistent across the whole series, and seemed to function more like distances in Star Trek, where the time required always equals the time required by the plot, and never any relation to actual distances.

Luce, Light's Shadow |

Well who cares about stuff like standardised measurement when you can have DRAMA instead? ;)

RIZZENMAGNUS |

Hello everyone! it is I, the bestest of DMs out there. lol
It is that time of year, where Christmas happens. And, as the majority of us know, this is the time of year where practically everyone takes vacation. This results in the usual christmas and new years time lag for posting.
I recognize that everyone has plans during this time of year, and posting on this website is a far distant thought. Therefore, Starting tomorrow, and lasting until Jan 3rd, 2022, It will be assumed that everyone is on vacation/away from keyboard, is doing IRL things.
I will keep an eye upon this game, and if a majority of people continue to post and respond, the game will progress a bit more. If not, thats fine as well.
As usual, i will be on discord visiting various servers, so if youre feeling up for a chat about anything and everything, feel free to hit me up.
