"Hmp. My normal gathering places were picked over, but at least I found some. Here." The herbs Itka provides are moderately adequate.

Itka is a witch who loathes her patron, Zon Kuthon. This causes a complicated relationship with her black rat familiar, Akti. He normally is kept in her pocket and rarely reveals his presence.

I have three potential characters.

1. Aktuh (forensic investigator 6, archaeologist archetype): looking for a long-lost love, ranged striker in combat

2. Emdi Emmay (archer champion 5, bard archetype): party boy, deserter from the Nidalese military, ranged striker in combat but stays close to the front line

3. Potipher Perkins THAT'S MRS. PERKINS TO YOU (Baba Yaga witch 4): just wants some peace and quiet to quilt, healer in combat

I don't have a strong preference mechanically, and none of them have strong ties to Cheliax so narratively all of them are a little awkward.

I think I'd prefer to play with Jayma. She's my favorite PC and originally from Cheliax, though having left there under a cloud, she'll be keeping a very low profile if she returns. Hey folks, thanks for answering the call. 5 out of 6 of you played at my 2-19 table at Gameday. Warah I think you know all of the other players. Welcome aboard! I will run 3-07 right after this one is over, it is supposed to be released mid-December and I don't expect us to be finished with this game before that ;)

I will leave it up to you to decide. But let me state it this way, this (3-04) seems like a well-rounded scenario with many different parts to it. When I read reviews of it, some people said that fights could be challenging. I just want to throw it out there ;)

We seem to have 5 players at the moment, Sedoriku will join soon with his Symeon (lvl 3 investigator). Currently the line up is:

Hornbori lvl 4 fighter with Medic dedication
Jayma lvl 4 Sorcerer
Arfsnarf lvl 3 Sorcerer
Itka lvl 3 Witch
Symeon lvl 3 Investigator

I am in the process of herding Sedoriku in here, at the same time I need 1 more day to read the scenario to the end, I should be able to post the initial post tomorrow. We will get going properly on Monday.

- You all played with me, so you know what to expect. I should be aware of all of the upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, etc.), and even if I will post during some of them I will not bot you, letting you catch up.

- Beyond all, I want this to be a fun game. Fun for you and fun for me ;) For now I still more enjoy playing than GM'ing but I try to GM scenarios that seem fun. And I try to find enjoyment in trying to find 'my way' of running them.

- Any signs of bullying or any sign of disrespect towards other players or myself will not be tolerated. But you know all that ;)

- This will be a two scenario combo but if anyone of you decides that they don't want to continue I will not get offended.

- As you all know, English is not my native language, if you feel something is off, the description is not accurate etc. Don't hesitate to ask more questions, on top of language errors there are piled cultural differences, cultural references etc.

- I am still a beginning GM, please raise issues with my interpretation of rules. I don't have a problem acknowledging my mistakes, and changing what I ruled before.

I think that would be it!

GM Farol wrote:

Is it two? Why did I think it was three scenarios?

GM Farol wrote:

I did know that, but only because you told me. I wouldn't have known otherwise, so don't worry about your English. It's excellent.

So what is your native language?

Some of the arcs in season 3 are 4 scenarios long (I think). But this series is only 2 scenarios, without seeing 3-07 it seems that the stories are entangled like in Season 1 The Perennial Crown Part (1-16 and 1-17). So very much aligned, but we will experience it.

Tarondor wrote:

That is nice for you to say. And don't get me wrong, I am not apologizing for my English not being perfect. I just know that at times I make errors. And due to that, the precision of descriptions could be off. My native language is Polish which is a bit different from english. To give you some examples:

- In polish we use double negatives and it does not feel awkward: Don't you think that you are not missing that +1 rune on your weapon? - is a perfectly valid phrase ;) I try to avoid
- As Warah (and few others) discovered doors only exist in plural in Polish (just like trousers, scissors etc.) => in my descriptions there are frequently doors in the corridor (even if there is only 1 door ;))
- and the list goes on ;)

Ok, Slides are up and I made an initial post. In this scenario, there is no 'briefing' so if you want to make some purchases do them now. Otherwise, we would have to RP it during the scenario (if possible).

Your English is great, it's better than many Americans'. :D

Doors are always plural. That's fascinating. I guess it's thinking of both sides of the object, like the Roman god Janus.

I was told that the Irish language has no word for "no.". If asked "are you going to the store", you need to say something like "I am not going to the store."

One of the more interesting splits between American English and British English is the use of articles. A Brit will say "I was in hospital," which sounds weird to an American, who would say "I was in the hospital." Similarly, a British speaker might say "We need to stop him going," whereas an American would say "We need to stop him from going." I'm not sure how that difference arose.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And how people in America say "I like your car" and people from Britain will say "Drive on the left, wanker."

As an Australian who immigrated to the US as a 16 year old some 40 years ago, I still find myself occasionally using British idioms, both in speech and in writing.

The following is my standard you have been warned spiel for Jayma.

Jayma is trained in Gossip Lore, which allows her to make trained +9 Recall Knowledge rolls on any topic. Even if she fails, she gets the effects of the Dubious Knowledge feat.

Jayma has a white ermine familiar named Twyl who might post separately from time to time. Same goes for any creatures she summons along the way.

She has the Empathetic Plea reaction which she will use whenever someone tries to attack her (and toward whom she has yet to act hostile).

Her bonus consumable will be Healing Potion (Minor) x2.

@Jayma - got it, I will try to keep Dubious Knowledge in mind.

@All - I decided to do the secret checks the good old way (asking you for a modifier and doing the roll myself). I like the macro sheet, but I don't like the 'flow' of using it. It strips you from the ability to RP the investigating/recalling part which I don't like.

- Could you please share who and how many Glyphs do you have? I know that WaterySoup had at least 2, but in the meantime, things could have changed. When you arrive in town you will get 1 HP each (as that would be the 'end' of briefing).

- Please keep your exploration activity in your tagline (whenever I will need it I will be searching for it there).

- Please select your school item

- @Emdi I am still waiting for your chronicle info :) (I have most of it, but downtime probably would be useful)

Eh, Symeon has healed himself before and he can heal himself again.

Also sorry everyone about the late time getting a starting post in. I had a busy weekend on my end, and it lead me to only updating the games I'm GMing.

Also @GM Farol, quick question about Symeon and secret checks. Anytime the halfling takes a Devise a Stratagem action he gets a free Recall Knowledge check. I have a dice expression in my profile that puts a d20 roll in a spoiler with possible relevant modifiers, but if you'd prefer, I can just leave the modifiers when I post... this is assuming we get into a fight of course.

Nah that is fine, during fight it will happen every round so let us stick with that.

====================

CP = we have 3 lvl 3, 1 lvl 4 and 2 lvl 5 => (3 x 2) + (1 x 3) + (2 x 4) = 17 CP

That means low-tier for a group of six.

I made a slide to have your avatars (if you want to use a different than Paizo one go to slide 4 and change them, but please make them round). You all start with 1 HP beside Arfsnard and Itka that has 2. The next hero point shall be given around the 1st of December.

@Symeon no issues with weekends, I don't expect players to post during weekends. At times I can do that so I will if it still allows players to post retrospectively.

@Emdi - with regards to being a paladin: all clear. My warpriest of Torag is in similar situations a lot of times ;) So not answering a question is her line of handling with things.

Just for as an FYI: Ther is a guidance around edits and anathema in society play. I don't think this scenario will ask you to lie, but you do work undercover ;)

Hey @All - Happy thanksgiving. I wish you a calm and happy holiday spent with your loved ones!

I will treat the next two days just like the weekend, if you all post I shall as well, otherwise we will wait till Monday.

Does one have to be trained in a particular listed skill to use it in a research attempt? For example, Jayma's INT gives her a +3 to any Lore skill in which she is untrained, same with Crafting.

Given the range of DCs in the example found in the Gamemastery Guide, there is at least a 4 point difference in the lowest to highest DCs for each division in the library, it would probably be better for her to give Scribing Lore +3 a shot vs the lowest DC rather than use her Perception +7 vs the highest DC.

Unless told otherwise, I'll assume that training is not needed to make an attempt.

One more question: Can Jayma's familiar Twyl make research attempts? According to the familiar rules, Its Perception, Acrobatics, and Stealth modifiers are equal to your level plus your spellcasting ability modifier (Charisma if you don't have one, unless otherwise specified). It can't make Strikes, but it can use trained skill actions for skills for which it adds your spellcasting ability modifier.

So his Perception of +8 is actually slightly better than Jayma's, and he's +4 with all skills other than Acrobatics and Stealth (which are at +8), which also beats out Jayma in many cases.

I would say:

- Yes you can go with untrained skills in Research (I couldn't find any ruling on that topic)
- You can use your familiar but it would be familiar instead of you, as the system is not built for 7 players doing research
- There is also another aspect, you can argue the usage of other Lore/skills instead of the ones provided, if you can argue them. Given that your target left some hints among his items you can be pretty creative in those.

Hero Point time, there was very little heroic in the research, but here we are ;) I shall nominate the following for the HP:

Emdi - for having no hero point :( And really bad rolls, so a hero point to make him better
Hornbori - for bringing wurst that spread to other people posts like a virus ;)
Jayma - for nice posts of researching even if the rolls were not always the highest
Itka - for leaving greasy marks on Count's maps. I am sure he will love to discover it, if he is alive ;)
Symeon - for good use of your Clue in!
Arfsnarf - for a diplomatic approach to the woflhound!

1-Emdi, 2-Hornbori, 3-Jayma, 4-Itka, 5-Symeon, 6-Arfsnarf: 1d6 ⇒ 5

The gods have spoken. Hero point goes to Symeon

I'd skip the tanglefoot bags and thunderstones; I have yet to find any use for such things in all the adventures I've played. Healing potions are another matter though; I've made extensive use of those. I say we take all the healing potions and distribute them as per Jayma's suggestion in Gameplay.

I love it! She'd probably despise Mrs. Crinkle. Too much chaos!

Hornbori cringes at the idea of adventuring with them both!

For a moment there I thought you might've been referring to the game of Enter the Pallid Peak that my character, Mrs. Crinkle, is playing now, but obviously not.( Her "dress", if it can be called that, is more of a glorified afghan, not a quilt. Among other things.) Is this a reference to another game, part of the scenario, or something you made up? Either way, I like it!

I am glad that you liked it! Actually, it is a reference to enter the pallid peak game. I had more direct scenario references but realized that you are playing it as we speak, so I removed them, to not spoil anything. Out of the team Hornbori, Arfsnarf and Symeon were there with those PC, Palandri had Mandoo and WaterySoup brought Mrs. Perkins.

Playing with the same players allow me to make such references ;)

That's great! I love it.

As Mrs. Crinkle is level 1, it's unlikely that she'd get into a game with Mrs. Perkins. If she ever catches up, however, that would certainly be an entertaining mix!

Or grab a mentor boon and have Mrs. Perkins 'mentor' Mrs. Crinkle.
