Ignaci's friend Pacula can be heard moving slowly away through the forest as well, on her hurt leg. As you thought she won't get far.
Chimwemwe |
Chimwemwe calls upon his training to stabilize the unconscious assassin, "ជាប់ជីវិត!"
He walks over to them to shackle their wrists while saying, "I don't think she'll talk, but the Chime-Ringers should know about an assassin working in the region. They can take care of banishing them."
He then starts searching them for clues. "Maybe Ignaci has an idea why someone hired an assassin to kill him."
GM Doug H |
Ignaci stands up, busying his shaking hands by tidying his fashionable clothes. His voice seethes with hatred and anger. Not directed at you, but at his own family, and the ghosts of his past.
"I suppose I owe you again. My dear family — a such a very well-connected group of Chelaxian parasites — was on the wrong side of the Vidric Revolution. I disagreed rather… vehemently. So much so, they abandoned me when things kicked off."
"I was much younger then, in my early teens. I did what I had to do to survive, alone and in the middle of a violent revolution. I won't ever tell you what those things were. They're frankly none of your business."
"Suffice it to say that certain powerful families in Cheliax might allege that one "Ignacio Canterells" was a talented — some might say genius young spy and cryptographer who cracked several Chelaxian military codes. Some of which led to the assassination or execution of key military figures in the region, greatly helping the revolution." He smiles. "Allegedly."
He turns to the assassin. "Enough about me, or what people think I did. Let's interrogate them, then kill them. The Chime Ringers can't be trusted — really… who can ever trust the police!? And where did Pacula get off to? She can't have gotten far. We need all the answers we can get. Even the most daring assassin wouldn't hit a Magaambyan… not here in Nantambu. That would cause an international incident." He rubs his chin. "Something is very rotten here."
Alrinkiri |
Alrinkiri nods slightly at Ignaci's mention of Pacula and quickly disappears into the trees, silently following the wounded woman's trail.
Intention is to find her and bring her back.
Chimwemwe |
"Isn't that, hmm, the reason to involve the Chime-Ringers and inform the city council?" Chimwemwe says. "Someone did send an assassin to Nantambu to kill a Magaambyan. It, hmm, it should cause an international incident. Otherwise we're, hmm, we're covering up the crime for the villain."
GM Doug H |
Ignaci shakes his head. "You're missing my point. I may have been too subtle. I conjecture they had permission to operate here."
______
Alrinkiri easily finds Pacula and brings her back, limping on her wounded leg. She starts crying. "Please don't hurt me!" Ignaci sneers at her. "They probably won't, Pacula. Most of them at least. We're each of us lucky and unlucky they're here."
Soomdevi |
Soomdevi is so confused he doesn't know what to say.
"Let's talk to this assassin and find out who sent them. I still don't understand what's going on enough to make any decisions."
GM Doug H |
Ignaci seems disappointed in Soomdevi. I thought out of everyone you would be the first to put it all together. You seem more in tune with this kind of "underworld" thing. I allegedly participated in the Vidric revolution and got people killed. Some people in Cheliax don't like me because of these alleged activities and want me dead. I conjecture one of these Chelaxian families put a hit on me, and someone in the government here sanctioned it."
Soomdevi |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Now Soomdevi is mad!
"You could have just flat out said that instead of trying to act like you're such a genius, allegedly. Also, I'm not going to kill someone, especially someone who may give us information, simply because you don't trust the Chime Ringers. Yeah, they could all be demons in disguise for all we know, but I need some proof first. Also, again, stop trying to be such a genius when we've had to come save you twice now. What kind of genius has to get rescued like that? Not even alleged ones!"
