Ale silently puzzles to himself how his thinking patterns and an eagles overlap before eyeing the dark clouds and senses what might be a common bond in their thoughts, displeasure at the weather.

He silently works to help Nevitesh put up tents and, should it start to rain, will pull his poncho from his pack and wrap himself in it.

"We should get a fire started, and build it to stave off the rain."

Sona makes sure they are setting up their tents on a clear high ground out of the flow that she thinks water will travel. Then she gets to work piling up the fire. When it is set up, she casts a Spark spell on it and it ignites. Once it is going she will look about for firewood nearby.

You find some deer, a hawk, some mice, a squirrel, and an osprey. So far, nothing is ready to come and eat you like a wolf.

Sona will change from her much cooler hot-weather outfit, with its nice flowy layers, to her cold-weather outfit, with its furs and solid protection from the cold. She then will strip down some of it when next to the fire and regulate her temperature this way. Knowing that some are out hunting, she prepares a side of the fire with a spit with their cooking kit. With any luck, they will return with some meat to dry, salt, and smoke. If it starts to rain, she will tie down some branches to bend slightly over their fire so it is protected (not right on it so as to catch fire, but above it). She will throw on some larger logs to increase the heat to counter the rain and will put on her poncho.

Chantal helps Nevitash and Ale set up the tents. Once that's done, the druid puts on her poncho, then picks up her scythe and pack. "I'll go see what I can find in the way of food." Hopefully she can find some vegetables, autumn fruits, or nuts to go with whatever game Jacen brings in.

You didn't spook them. However, firing your bow at one of them had caused them to spook and run. You hit a buck in it's haunches. Fortunately, he's not going far.

"Ale. Help me tie these canvases over the tents. They'll stop rain from bothering us." She then points to a tree. "We need to have a tie-up system for our food so random animals can't get to it. That means we'll need to throw this rope over that branch to pull up our food. We also need to build a makeshift shelter from the rain for the animals. It's pretty easy. She may not be an expert at surviving in the wild, but she has some basic knowledge of how they did things in the military. Breaking down camps and building them was one of the few things even grunts did.

and can I just finish him, or do I need to incapacitate him further?

You can just finish him.

Jacen whispers a soft prayer to Balinor, thanking him for the blessing of food for the group, and entreating the grace of the fallen for his quarry.

Jacen quickly dispatches the deer, and begins trussing it so that he can carry it back to the camp. Camp is close, or also like an hour away?

It's an hour away. Don't worry, the meat will stay fresh.

I forgot that Jacen is stronger than most of my characters. Just wanted to make sure he could handle the transport. I imagine the preparation of the venison is something he can do, but is anyone else better suited (or can help)?

First helping with the canvas and the food storage.

And will then start trying to build a shelter for the animals.
Could someone please help pull branches down? I believe my height will make me inefficient at this task?"

"That's great! You don't need more than that. Just a few across the others. Good job, Ale. Why don't you make a spit for whatever they bring back? You just need a couple of good-sized sticks in the ground with a 'Y' shape, and a cross stick going across the fire. It should let us dry, cook, or smoke some meat. I'll handle the branches." "He doesn't eat, probably, but surely he's seen a spit before, right?"

Little does she know, Jacen is bringing back a whole small-sized deer. That isn't even including what delicacies Chantal will bring back.

That's a good roll. You do manage to build an animal shelter. And it's a good one! The donkey and the mule are sheltered from the rain that is coming.

"Hello, everyone! I found us some food!" Chantal appears at the edge of camp holding her cloak, made into a makeshift bag. She walks over to where Sona and Ale are setting up a spit by the campfire and deposits her finds. Long white carrot-like roots, hazelnuts, blackberries, and small, squishy-looking round orange fruits. "These are wild carrots. You can cook them as with garden carrots, although they aren't as sweet." The druid points to the orange fruits. "These are wild persimmons, very soft and sweet. And I'm sure we all know hazelnuts and blackberries. The berries are a little tart, but still tasty."

Sitting back, she smiles at Sona. "So! I'm not a great cook, but I can manage. Are you planning to cook tonight? If so, what do you want done with the carrots? I can wash, peel, and cut them."

"I am not a great cook either. We can make a roasted carrot and persimmon puree with toasted hazelnuts on top. It might resemble baby food, but it should taste nice. Have any other ideas?" she asks as she pulls out her iron pot to set on the side of the fire to get warm.

When Jacen shows back up shortly thereafter, maybe they can make a stew.
We could also do meat-on-a-stick to begin with, just to get some food to everyone. We did buy spices and stuff.

Ale takes a moment to admire the shelter, he didn't really have any idea what he was doing, but his memories of the Druid's doing something similar were apparently good for something. Few things made him happier.
"Thank you Sona for your aid". he adds merrily as he follows along making the spits. He had seen them before, but had rarely previously involved himself with such matters.

Jacen d'Orien wrote:

Ale does the equivalent of wrinkling his nose at the carrots Chantal brings, unsure of how anyone could eat something so odd looking though does his best to otherwise keep his opinion to himself.

"You are apparently quite the hunter.
Unfortunately I cannot cook either, but I might offer assistance with this endeavor, whichever way you choose to cook the food."

Ale takes the the item being used to cook (pot or skewer) and wraps a long black thread around the length of the handle before running a finger along the thread and muttering a few words. The thread then glows faint, like the dying ember of a fire, and the edge of the thread begins to go dark, and slowly the the light fades from this first point of dimness.
"This has been infused to help with cooking. That thread will slowly dim as the magic wears off, and will go dark when the effect loses its potency."

An item you touch is enchanted to provide whomever wields or wears it a circumstance bonus to one specific type of skill check, chosen at the time of casting. This item does not change the rules concerning skill checks, thus it cannot allow a Knowledge check if you have no ranks in that Knowledge nor can it change the type of action involved. The amount of the circumstance bonus given starts at +2 and increases by 1 for every two caster levels beyond first (+3 at 3rd, +4 at 5th, +5 at 7th, etc).

"Thanks, Ale. Chantal." After a meal is settled upon, and certainly not Nevitash cooking, she will take up the spoon and will get settled in close to the fire and cooking. Yes, you can aid another with craft: cooking.

After Jacen is finished and buries the remains with another small prayer to Balinor, he comes over and asks his friend Sona how he can help with the meal.

what is the roll here, untrained, just a d20?

Well, Jacen, you could add the craft cooking skill on your next level.

I think you would get the bonus from Ale as well. It is not specific to how many people are "wielding" the item. For example, a siege weapon would give all those wielding it a bonus. So you'd have a 17, so a good assist, bringing Sona to an 18
