Sorry for the silence but yesterday I was flying from the US to Spain. Next Wednesday/Thursday I will lose another day flying from Spain to Australia.
Kka ponders Fuìn's question. "I don't know if Morlibint is the best guy to talk to about the ruby. This seems more up Wrin's alley. We should talk to her first."

GM Kwinten |

I was also under the impression it was the same day. Sorry!
Nah, seems like I didn't do a good job at conveying it's the next day. That's on me.
---
Lough goes roaming throughout town asking for the Motley Man, or someone completely cloaked in clothing. No one has seen anyone fitting that description in Otari, but one regular at the Crook's Nook says, "You've been hanging around the lighthouse a lot lately, right? Stories are already circulating around town about what you've found down there. Seems like that Motley Man wouldn't be out of place among the weird things out there."
---
Do people want to have a day of downtime, to do some personal stuff and see what happens with Fuìn before going down, or wanna continue straight away?

Kvit the Ruin Delver |

Kvit approaches whoever is gathered at the Crook's Nook, which is turning out to be the groups defacto meeting place.
"I think we should continue down to the next floor." He glances over at Fuìn meaningfully. "Whatever is going to happen with this denizen, it won't happen in one day. Though I would like to stop by Wrin's and see if she has any better insight. Plus she would probably like an update on our progress anyway."
I'm good with heading back down immediately, for the reasons above. Plus if Lough thinks the Motley Man might be in the lighthouse, we might as well start there.

![]() |

Lough heads over to the Crook's Nook after gathering his intel.
"Motley Man is in the Vault. Let's go get him!"
You would swear that his eyebrows grew twice their own length overnight...

Drosil "Fuìn" Arimsyn |

Fuin slaps his forehead. "Why didn't I think of Wrin? Of course she's the person to ask. I swear, she knows a little about everything."
At Lough's outburst, he shakes his head, then does a double-take. "Did your--?" He stumbles on the words, then coughs. "Never mind. Must be my imagination. Anyway. Kka and Kvit are right. No harm stopping in and asking Wring about the ruby first, but then I agree we should hit the tower again. I wouldn't mind doing a quick check of the floors that have already been cleared; wouldn't surprise me if some nasties have taken up residence in the empty halls. Nature, vacuums, et cetera."

Kka Magwi |

Having gathered at the Crook's Nook, and after hearing what everyone had figured out, Kka sits back in her chair. "So the baad guy messing with the mayor's girl is in the Vaults somewhere? How convenient. It means we'll run into Mr Motley eventuaally, assuming we live thaat long <Ark!, ark!>"
Her face turns dark as she verbalizes her stream of thought. "Thaat's a long way from here though. He's using the ruby to chaannel his power, so maybe all we need to do is destroy the ruby to break the connection? Thaat might hurt the girl though. And why this paarticular girl? Whaat's so special about her that would interest this denizen of Leng? Is it because of her latent psychic powers? Clearly he's making use of them to contaact her. Is there some way we can strengthen the girl's mental defenses to help her resist the denizen? How do we do thaat? Maybe Wrin knows something. But whaatever caan be done on this end, the final solution is to traack down this Motley Maan in the vaults and finish him off before it's too late for the girl."

Drosil "Fuìn" Arimsyn |

Fuin blanches at the realization that breaking the ruby could hurt Dorianna. "Didn't even think of that. I mean, there's probably things somebody could teach her to help her resist this creature, but you're gonna have to convince the kid first. She seems pretty adamant that this Motley Man is her friend." He shakes his head. "All this crap is way beyond me. I say we talk to Wrin, see if she has any ideas. If not... " He glances down at the bundle. "Well, then I guess we just have to hope taking the ruby away from her is enough for now, and head back into the Gauntlight."
He doesn't say it, but the fact that this 'Motley Man' is in the Gauntlight ruins is actually a huge relief to him. He'd been starting to think the only way to find this douchebag and rearrange its face would be to hunt it in dreams. The fact that it probably has a corporeal form and he can smash it repeatedly with his meteor hammer for assaulting a child is a load off his shoulders.
Of course, that still doesn't necessarily make Dorianna any safer in the interim. He scratches the bridge of his nose, wishing he was smarter. Dad was smart. Or at least clever. Fuin is well aware he has several fine qualities; it's just that cleverness was never one of them.

GM Kwinten |

It's been slow the past few weeks. Are you done here? Want to fast-forward to the next level of the dungeon, or want to play this out a little more?

You finish your business with Mayor Menhemes, saying that you don't have any immediate remedies, but you'll look into things to help Dorianna. Kka fixes Fuìn a nice bed at the Crook's Nook, where she can keep an eye on him while he keeps the ruby in his possession.
You make some final preparations, then head to the lighthouse once more. You descend the spiral staircase until you're about halfway, where the next level of this seemingly endless complex awaits you.
The wide spiral staircase continues downward, leveling out long enough to pass by a single door leading east and a hallway leading west to a double door. The space between them has a rounded, cloudy window overlooking a large pool in a natural cavern. A dim orange glow emanates from far below and, with it, a sulfurous stench.
The window is cloudy and you can't make out details, but you see an enormous shape lying half in, half out of the water.
There are doors to the east and west, and the staircase continues down even more.
Hero Point for everyone for reaching level 6, and one more Hero Point for Fuìn for a cool character moment and accepting the Leng ruby.

Kka Magwi |

Kka looks through the cloudy window to see if she can make out what the creature might be. She gives up. "<Sigh!> I caan't make out what's in there. But whaatever it is, it's big." She then turns to the two doors heading west. "I guess this is as good a way to go as any." She checks the doors before Lough does his usual job of leading them in.

Nothing jumps out at Kka to attack her as she crosses the room. She looks around for valuables, traps, or hidden treasure, but finds nothing of the sort. Similarly, the room to the west seems like it's completely fine.
The mossy walls of this pebble-strewn cavern extend upward to a ceiling 30 feet high.
It looks like this cave connects to the room you saw through the window. You hear heavy breaths of several large creatures echoing throughout the cavern.

Kvit the Ruin Delver |

Kvit tries to examine the scene through the cloudy window. "Sneakers, you stay here for now, watch that, let me know if it moves."

"Aye aye boss! I'll just stay here and away from any danger, don't you worry."

Kka follows the curve of the cave just enough to confirm that it leads to the larger cave they saw earlier through the cloudy window. "Looks like it joins up to the cave with the big critter we saw earlier. In fact, it sounds like there are several of them there. We feel like dealing with them now? I'm guessing thaat they aren't going to be too friendly."

Kvit the Ruin Delver |

Kvit shakes his head, "I don't see a reason to go down there and find out yet. I have sneakers posted at the window just to see if they even move. Maybe they're dead down here after all this time."
He walks back to the junction. "Let's keep moving forward now."

Cherry Berry |

"Kka, I'd ask if anything has really been friendly down here?"

Kka Magwi |

At Kvits's remark, Kka shrugs. "Pretty sure I heard several laarge creatures breathing in that cave, so I'm guessing they're probably not dead... or not dead dead, if you know whaat I mean."
Kka laughs at Cherry's comment. "<Ark, ark!> You've got me there Cherry. We've talked our way out of a few fights, but yeah, friendly is a bit of a stretch."
"Anyway, while you guys decide, I'm going to check the next set of doors." She works her way down the hallway and examines the next set of doors.

Kka examines the door. The door is unremarkable and does not seem trapped, but she can hear wet squelching noises, as if someone's walking through mud on the other side.

Kka returns to the group. indicating the doors she just checked down the corridor, she says, "There's definitely something wet and moving around behind those doors there. I'm guessing thaat it's also not going to be friendly. Shaall we check it out?"

Lough opens the door "Alright, everyone warmed up? Let's get this Motley Mud Man!" presuming that, having fixated upon his foe, he is the one on the other side of the door breathing heavy and sloshing around!

GM Kwinten |

Lough opens the door.
Metal shelves and operating tables hint at this room’s original purpose. Clean bones and bits of rusted metal lie in piles throughout the rest of the room.
The reason for the sloshing is immediately apparent. Two giant blobs of slime roam around mindlessly, sucking up any detritus and spitting out what they can't digest. When they notice the door opening, they quiver in anticipation of new food.

Kvit recognises these blobs as ochre jellies. Like most oozes, they're acidic slimes brought to some semblance of life. They're not particularly fast and they typically attack by grabbing hold of you and squeezing the life out of you. The most important thing to know is that if you attack them with piercing, bludgeoning, or electricity, they split, creating an additional ooze, each with half the HP of the original.

Kvit the Ruin Delver |

Kvit eyes the various weaponry on everyone and barks a warning "We need to smash these, no slashing or piercing weapons or they'll multiply! Blunt force only!" He points over the Cherry, "And no electricity!"

If my memory serves, Jellies and similar tend to be proof against precision damage, so Kka's Sneak Attack is likely to be useless. This means that the best Kka can hope for with a successful punch (her only bludgeoning attack) is to inflict 1d4 damage, and maybe crit it to double that and possibly make it Slowed 1 until the end of her next turn.
Just to confirm her suspicions, she darts into the room and up to the jelly that Fuìn just attacked; delivers a single punch to it with her handwrapped fist; and leaves the room.
