GM Nefreet |
Greetings, everyone!
Whether you're a former bounty hunter looking for more stable employment, or the starry-eyed adventurer type seeking the thrills of exploration, the Pathfinder Society wants YOU!
We'll be starting off this shindig with #1-01: The Absalom Initiation, followed by Intro #1: The Second Confirmation, and then Intro #2: United in Purpose.
After that, I'm either amenable to GMing Repeatables to get you all to Level 4/5ish, or continuing on with the Season 3 Metaplot, depending on what everyone has played by then. Or some mix of those options.
I am obligated to share with you that I am on the cusp of new employment (a hiring process that has thus far taken 4 months...). I will hopefully be transitioning from an on-call, overnight job to a full-time, 9-5 career that I can eventually retire from.
I'll keep you all up-to-date as/if things transition. That's why I don't want to set too far of a schedule in advance. But otherwise I should be good to post at least 1-2 times per day, minus the occasional busy holiday or natural disaster.
Looking forward to GMing for you!
Quetzhal |
Hello,
I hope you find the right job for you.
Quetzahl is ready to go for these adventures.
After the three first ones we could play the 1-4 scenarios of season 3 and some repeatables if there are no season 3 in tier to play anymore.
What do you think about this?

Hello, everyone! Thanks for the invite, Nefreet, I'm so excited to join all of you! I'm bringing in my Level 1 Paladin, who should be able to soak up a lot of damage and hopefully do some of the social skills. Full disclosure, this is my first 2nd edition character! I've played, and GM'd, lots of edition 1 and Starfinder but this is my first foray into the new edition. Please let me know when I make any mistakes, I'm happy and excited to learn!
First learning opportunity: I'm not exactly a stealthy character, with a +1. Is Scout a reasonable Exploration activity? I feel like Kiroh could survive being caught on his own occasionally and the +1 could be a helpful addition. What are the normal exploration activities for brute type characters?
And congrats on the possible job opportunity! Hopefully it works out.
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Welcome!!!
Raise Shield if you have a shield. I have a fighter tank that uses that a ton.
Scout is excellent, someone usually needs to do it. Search is pretty common.
Kiroh Batu |
Thank you! I'll stick with Scout then.
Kiroh doesn't have a shield, unfortunately. I'm building him to be a two handed Reach protector who can use his reaction to punish enemies who attack the team. His weapons will also give him a chance to Disarm and Trip if possible. Kiroh is still Level 1, so there are opportunities to rebuild him if this doesn't work out.
GM Nefreet |
My favorite PC is my Champion-9 with a Reach Weapon and Ranged Reprisal.
I think you'll have fun =D
Kiroh Batu |
It looks like a pretty fun and dynamic combo! I'm also quite curious to see how my Charisma score and Diplomacy vs Intimidation work out in the first few games.
Trig O'Nomehtri |
I'm excited Kiroh, your build should really fit in well. Trig should be able to buff up your weapon regularly, letting you take even more advantage of your combat stuff.
On a note to the GM, THANK YOU for posting all the NPC images and such. I am loving the art as well as getting an image of each person as we deal with them.
GM Nefreet |
Totally. I tried to do the same for the Bounties but there was usually just one NPC included in the adventure.
There's more art in Scenarios, plus a lot of recurring NPCs that I can pull from other Scenarios that I already own.
GM Nefreet |
And actually you can encounter like half a dozen others if you play this again, like Zarta Dralneen and Aaqir al Hakam.
But for your first playthrough I wanted to introduce Urwal and Valais at least, and then Ambrus and Gloriana have different skills for a variety of options.
GM Nefreet |
Leaving for PacifiCon in 10 minutes! Posting will be spotty through Monday.
Kiroh Batu |
Dang, combat one and the paladin goes down! Looking at the rolls, it's not like the enemies got lucky to-hit rolls, I probably would have been hit in most situations. Their damage was big, but that happens sometimes.
Is there something I should have done differently? Or a build problem?

Nope, that’s just pfs2 honestly. High consistent damage incoming from all enemies. It’s why healers (any type) are quite important. A chunk of fights drop at least one PC.
GM Nefreet |
For the next Scenario, you might want to try out using a Shield and a one-handed weapon so you can test out Shield Block. I admit I'm biased, because that's what my Champion uses, but blocking 5 damage at low levels can make the difference between standing and going down.
It's not glorious. My character has never been known as a damage dealer. But it's hard to kill a high level Champion with Expert Proficiency in their Full Plate, a Sturdy Shield as their Divine Ally, and two Shield Block reactions.
GM Nefreet |
Apologies for the sparse posts these last couple weeks. I've hit a nice work/gym/sleep/personal life routine but it's left less time for forum posting.
And in about 32 hours I will be flying out for a 3-day family vacation. I probably won't be able to post, unless there's a layover lull. But we should finish up this next part by next week and can start on The Second Confirmation.
If you've already played it, PM me with the encounters you had and I'll try to draft up a different set of creatures for you, since it can have a lot of variation.

Chronicles uploaded and session reported!
It just occurred to me that this will be the first time any of you have earned Downtime.
Feel free to roll whatever you need to here; I'll let you handle it on your sheets.
Will post Intro#1 tomorrow.
And an update on the job front... I'M HIRED! Orientation is on the 16th. My shifts will start 7am, and I doubt I'll have the freedom to post throughout the day, so my posts might be relegated to later afternoon/evening on a more regular basis.
Kiroh Batu |
Congrats on the job!
Day Job: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Alright, I need to look up what this means later. lol
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Lore - Nethys (E) Earn Income Task Level 0 DC 14 for 1:01: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
So that is a crit over 8 days equals 16 silver, yay!
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Congratulations on the job, by the way!
Trig has been updated with a few purchases made. Ready to go whenever.

Alright, I need to look up what this means later. lol
In a nutshell, HERE is the pertinent chart (up to Level 12).
By default, everyone has 2 Days of Downtime per XP gained (so 8 per Scenario), and Earn Income is rolled once per 8 Days (if you are Field Commissioned, you instead have 12 Days of Downtime, and roll once for the first 8 Days, then again for the next 4 Days).
The Default Task Level you're aiming for on the Chart is Character Level minus 2, minimum 0.
(So right now, whether you're Level 1 or Level 2, the Task Level is 0)
Horizon Hunter PCs eventually get a Boon that sets the Default Task Level equal to their Character Level.
You rolled a 6 versus a DC of 14. That is a failure, so you Earn 8cp (8 Days x 1cp/Day)
Trig rolled a Critical Success, and the benefit of that is you increase the Income Earned by 1 Task Level. As an Expert, that's 2sp/Day for Trig, for a total of 1gp, 6sp.
A Critical Failure means you're fired, and you Earn nothing.
The Default Skills you can use to Earn Income are Crafting, Lore and Performance, but some Feats allow you to use other Skills, and there are other options for using your Downtime such as Retraining Feats, Swapping Spells Known, etc.
Kiroh Batu |
Thank you, that was a great explanation! Excellent. I'm going to give the Reach build another try. Then try the Shield one on the third scenario and decide on the build before Level 2.
GM Nefreet |
Apologies, the last couple days have gotten away from me in preparation for this job tomorrow (and then I'm attending a buddy's going away party after that).
Let's take the weekend off and I will endeavor to pick back up on Monday.
Now my challenge is seeing if I can actually fall sleep during the nighttime!
Kiroh Batu |
Right, it's the 16th! Take your time, real life comes first! Congrats, again, new jobs are exciting and tough.
GM Nefreet |
Yeah this weekend was just orientation, and this week will be classroom training, and then next week will be hands on training, and then the week after I get tossed to the wolves.
It sounds like I will be very busy.
Kiroh Batu |
I've sketched out the shield-focused Redeemer Paladin Kiroh's going to transform into for his final Level 1 scenario. I wasn't expecting to be excited for it (since I always wanted to play a Reach character) but... I am! It looks a lot more dynamic, with the third action for Raising a Shield and the option to negate damage with Shield Block. The Glimpse of Redemption offers similar protection (2+level within 15 feet) but gives debuffs instead of an extra attack. That's not a bad trade, especially if it keeps Kiroh on his feet more. Since I'll be closer to Full Plate by level 2 I'm also going to shift my Dex into Int. I'll also be able to use Deception when I leave Paladin behind.
We'll see which playstyle I enjoy more after the next scenario. But either way I'll be changing my diety, since it has little mechanical effect on this current build and the Mother of the Forest is a bit lackluster.
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Sounds fun! It's always nice to play around with builds a bit. I'm really liking Trig, from multiple sides.
RP he is just fun. And the build has a ton of healing going for it, plus a smattering of other spells and abilities to keep him from getting bored.
Kiroh Batu |
Ha, I'm glad you got it! The picture reminded me of the show so much, and I couldn't think of a way to shoehorn it into the dialogue.
GM Nefreet |
Chronicles uploaded and session reported!
As a reminder, you can use the Society Connections Boon you earned on your last Chronicle for Downtime. Higher chance of failure, but some pretty sweet earnings if you roll well.
Plus, you all should be able to download the Confirmation Wayfinder Boon from your Boons tab. You're all *official* Pathfinders, now!
Should have Intro#2 up by tomorrow: delving into the mysteries of this ancient Azlanti settlement ^_^
Trig O'Nomehtri |
I will be trying that boon out.
I'll post the roll in an hour once this post is locked in to avoid the possibility of shenanigans.
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Lore - Nethys (E) Earn Income Task Level 4 DC 19 for Intro 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
So that is a success on a level 4 task over 8 days equals 56 silver, super yay!
Trig O'Nomehtri |

Holy cannoli!
That dusty rose prism aeon stone is incredible (for Trig at least). And I can JUST BARELY afford it with my success above.
And now I have a really solid third action a round.
GM Nefreet |
So that is a success on a level 4 task over 8 days equals 56 silver, super yay!
You're Expert, so it's actually 64 silver ^_^
Trig O'Nomehtri |
Oh sweet! Updated.
Hey, will Kiroh ever get a level bump?
GM Nefreet |
Not with this group. Level Bumps only apply to:
Level 1s when playing subtier 3-4 in a tier 1-4
Level 3s when playing subtier 5-6 in a tier 3-6
Level 5s when playing subtier 7-8 in a tier 5-8
etc
He'll always be 1 level lower than the rest of you, so by the time your group qualifies for a higher subtier, he'll be too high level to benefit.
Trig O'Nomehtri |
That's what I thought, good. I don't have to buy a mentor boon.
I did buy like three boons though. Hireling Expert, Rugged Wayfinder and the one that allows me to roll earn income at my level. Huzzah getting to 20 reputation!

So Society connection boon (I've not used it for each of my character who got it) :(
Crafting, expert, earn income, DC 19: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Success! So 64 silver!
Kiroh Batu |
Kiroh isn't so good at Day jobs, I'll do the normal one. Task Level 0, DC 14
Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
That's a crit, so I get Task Level 1 money. 2 SP x 8 days = 16 SP.
Right?
