Tzleztor |

Tzleztor sees Xilt disappear and decides that it is time to make for the exit. He flies up and above the crowd and takes a defensive posture.
Move and Full Defence action.
@GM Redelia - Is the door to the tavern open? If not and if you bot Vina again please have them open the door and exit.

![]() |

Vina casts a spell on Lakadee and opens the door, then instructs Lakadee to exit the bar and head towards the street.
Casting Shield Companion (AA) on Lakadee

![]() |

Lakadee follows her mistress' commands.
Double move

![]() |

Vina and Kahwen each get two rounds of action.

![]() |

Xilt and Tzleztor both make their way outside. Xilt is still invisible.

![]() |

Kahwen sees a lot of people making it so that he can't see them any more on both sides. He also sees most of his companions making their way out of the bar and follows suit.
He does keep his sword out and takes up a defensive posture, just in case the Red Manti decide to attack.
Move action to get out of the bar, standard to fight defensively.

![]() |

Anthys moves towards the exit.
There is a special rule that it isn't difficult terrain, but he just can't take a double move? If so, then he will also use a move action for Barroom Brawler to pick up Blind-Fight. If I am wrong about that, he will double move out the door.

GM Redelia |

Krelin finds darts thrown at him from behind.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
One hits him; the other passes over his shoulder.
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The enemies become visible because they attacked.
please make a fort save, Krelin
At this point, I assume the last of you leave the area.
The only remaining part of this encounter is Krelin's poison.
Luckily, you will have plenty of time before any more encounters to get the poison taken care of.
Other than Krelin's poisoning, you now need to find somewhere to spend the night. The nearest inn is called the Flying Alderman, a modest but comfortable establishment just over the border between the Docks and the Foreign Quarter.

![]() |

Xilt turns to the others.
"We can check out the inn if you like for a meal and information but I do not think it is wise to sleep in a public setting with the tournament going on. It would be far too easy for someone to sneak in and try to steal our gems in the middle of the night or even worse try to slit our throats."
"In cases like these I prefer my own pocket dimension and I am lucky that I even have a familiar that does not need to sleep that can keep a nice lookout for us all."
Rope Trick should keep us all nice and safe at night and is free as well. :)

Tzleztor |

Tzleztor shakes his head at his master.
"Paranoid? No, I think you just like showing off your pocket dimension. When are you going to be a real wizard and summon a castle or a mansion with servants so I do not need to be the guardsman and the party butler as well?"

![]() |

"Wait, Companions, we should all stay together. I'm certain other people saw us grab gems and will be coming after them. If Friend Xilt has a way for us to stay hidden overnight, we should use it," Kahwen says as the group begins to make plans for the night.

![]() |

"I understand your concerns, Kahwen. Even so, I will stay in the inn. You all do as you wish, as will I."
For a number of reasons, many OOC, I would enjoy this game more if my character did not do the Rope Trick thing. I don't see any need to get into the details. I am entirely certain that even if Anthys gets his throat slit in the night (which I would prefer to using Rope Trick), you will still succeed at this scenario.

![]() |
"You all will do a lot better in the tournament if we sleep on real bed and I doubt Xilt has any in there. Plus if we stay at the inn we can scout out the competition and make rivals out of one group, who we will end up facing in the last round of the tournament, as is tradition for martial arts tournaments."

GM Ladile |

**HOUSE GM ANNOUNCEMENT**
Without warning, loud slamming noises echo through the tavern, even over the fray of the combat within. Moments later, the front doors rupture in a shower of splinters. In full battle regalia, a contingent of Absalom’s First Guard rush into the room. Swinging heavy chains and nets, they beat into the brawlers en masse, dragging dozens to the floor. The remainder of the contestants break from their opponents, and the crowd devolves into a raging mob as all race frantically for the nearest exit to avoid arrest!
______________
Table GMs, please begin the conclusion of Act One!

![]() |

Xilt shrugs.
"There is no reason why we cannot combine both ideas. We can stay at the inn and rent a room and I will stay with my familiar in my pocket dimension in that room."
"That way Tzleztor can have a good view of the room in case someone curious tries to break in and we can keep our rubies nice and safe and you can socialise with your fellow warrior at the inn."
The wizard turns towards Tarowr.
"Since when do real warriors need to sleep in a bed anyways, especially when adventuring? Mind you my dimensional space is much more comfortable than sleeping outdoors and much cleaner than any inn."
Did I miss something in the mission brief about fighting a rival group in the last round of the tournament?
While Xilt speaks he recalls one of his spell cast (Vanish) with a pearl of power.

![]() |

"That way Tzleztor can have a good view of the room in case someone curious tries to break in and we can keep our rubies nice and safe and you can socialise with your fellow warrior at the inn."
Anthys looks like he has a great deal to say about this plan, but instead reluctantly hands over to Xilt the rubies he found. "Fine. Have it your way."

![]() |

Xilt accepts the gems from Anthys placing them in his Handy Haversack.
"You will be able to sleep in a real bed as will Tarowr tonight. So everyone will be getting their own way with this plan."
"Perhaps now we should head for the inn so we can mingle with the less than savoury characters that we will latter defeat in battle?"
It is pretty evident from his tone that Xilt does not exactly approve of this competition. He suspects that it attracts the least worthy members of their society for a less that admirable reason.

Tzleztor |

The Mephit shakes his head at the whole point of this competition.
"This competition is so weird. Usually we just beat up monsters in dungeons and take their stuff. What is the actual point of defeating people with no stuff to take. I mean why bother?"

![]() |

"You will be able to sleep in a real bed as will Tarowr tonight. So everyone will be getting their own way with this plan."
Well, it was specifically about Xilt declaring the rubies "ours" and implicitly asking for them to be handed over, but no matter. I will do as you wish.

![]() |

Kahwen is not discreet with his Wayfinder, normally but respects the innkeeper's intentions and switches his broad gesture to a much more subtle one at the last moment to expose his own Wayfinder.
He stays close to Xilt and, more importantly, the jewels. Nothing like having shiny baubles to make Kahwen jealous and paranoid and he eyes everyone in the inn with suspicion.
"May I also stay in your pocket dimension, Friend Xilt?" he asks.

![]() |

Xilt nods to Kahwen.
"Of course."

GM Redelia |

Krelin str damage from poison: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Krelin shakes off the poison after the initial explosure. He knows a goodnight's rest will heal the effects.
The innkeeper nods when you flash wayfinders, hands you a key, and tells you your meals and room have been paid for.
anything else before you sleep? Who is staying in the room, and who is hiding magically?

![]() |

Dortlin is a medium height but burly human in a chain shirt. A massive sword is on his back. He is less then handsome and smells like an animal. You may have heard some loud sounds outside a few minutes ago, If so you saw him riding up on an armored rhino
"Howdy. I heard y'all were entering some contest and your other teammate had pressing matters. Me and Rambi are happy to help out. Something about fighting a Phoenix?"

Tzleztor |

Tzleztor turns around as the pungent aroma of Dortlin circulates around the room.
"What is going on here? Master?"

![]() |

Xilt smiles.
"Welcome. I am certain that your assistance will be most helpful in the battles ahead. Allow me to help refresh you from your travels."
With the assumption that the hunter does not object Xilt begins the magical cleaning process of both man and beast.
Prestidigitation to the rescue!
@GM Redelia - The Rope Trick spell will be in the room itself. This way we will not be splitting the party and my familiar can stand watch over what is going on in the room through the 5 feet by 5 feet window in the spell.

![]() |

Yep, that's a Pathfinder.
Anthys greets the new arrival.
"A fighting tournament in honor of Hao Jin, also known as the Ruby Phoenix. At least, that is what I was able to piece together from the mission briefing. I don't in character know anything about this Hao Jin other than that they were a mage of great renown in Tian Xia, and 'nearly' immortal. I'm not entirely sure what that means.
But the reward for winning the tournament is an artifact from the collection of this Hao Jin."
@GM - do the doors to the rooms lock?

![]() |

"Thank ya for the Cleanin. Ah. An artifact from a powerful mage could be mighty handy. Me and Rambi are good at fighting. Should be fun."
Dortlin is willing to sleep on a bed or up a rope once it's demonstrated.

![]() |

Xilt turns to Anthys.
"My understanding that is that this is simply a qualifying round to enter the Ruby Phoenix Tournament at a latter date. I am not sure if any prizes will be awarded at all for participation in this event. I certainly hope so but time will tell."
"As for the Sorceress Hao Jin. Her reputation is rather impressive."
The wizard pauses and then switches topics.
"Now to more pragmatic matters. I would suggest that you move something heavy in front of the door before retiring as doors can be easily picked or forced open in the middle of the night."
Rope Trick cast at caster level 9 - 9 hours
Xilt -
Life Bubble cast at caster level 11 - 22 hours
False Life, CL 11, Extended-22 hours: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Tzleztor-
Mage Armor, CL 9, Extended-18 hours
False Life, CL 11, Extended-22 hours: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

![]() |

"Xilt, do you seriously expect an assassination attempt in the middle of the night in a proper inn in Absalom? I hate living in such paranoia, but if I must, I will prepare to defeat and capture such assassins, rather than merely block or evade them."
Anthys will pay 10 gp to have Bed of Iron cast on him before going to sleep, and will pay 40 gp for a 4th-level caster to cast Alarm on the room. He will not block the door.
Keep Watch is another option.

![]() |

Xilt nods to Anthys.
"On all my adventures I have never felt such a need for caution as tonight. I doubt that our opponents will be formidable in combat but I am certain that they lack any scruples or decency. I feel that a few simple precautions are necessary."
Xilt shakes his head in approval at the use of the Alarm spell.
As a player I have no idea what will happen but an attack in the middle of the night just makes so much sense considering the low-lives that we are dealing with. :)

Tzleztor |

The Mephit agrees with Anthys' position but he has little choice but to comply with his master's wishes.
"Xilt is paranoid and a total buzz kill that is for sure. Instead of having fun tonight he is locking down the room for Armageddon."
Tzleztor shrugs.
"Still, in the off chance that he might be right I will keep watch all night from the window in the Rope Trick spell."
Outsiders do not need to sleep.

![]() |

Dortlin shrugs.
"If you are so danged worried about intruders I better sleep by the door and one of you sleep by the window."
knowledge planes: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
"Hey Mephit, What should I call you? Wake me up if you hear anything."
Dortlin sleeps by the door.
