A Dark and Stormy Night, A Prequel Mini-Adventure. (Inactive)

Game Master Azure_Zero

Map

This will be an Mini-Adventure for those that want to get want to start making and getting into character for Mr Nevets Sunless Citadel Adventure that'll start recruitment in August.

The Prequel is an Old Free 3.5 Mini-Adventure, A dark And Stormy Night

I'm keeping the Character creation rules as OLD school as possible, like Sunless Citadel.
But I also know that it would be idea limiting, so I'm cracking it more open then Pure CRB only.

Character Creation Rules:

Stats: 20 PB, (Stats Min 10, Max 16 Pre-racial)
Traits: 3 (One Social and One Regional, Last one is either Combat, Faith, Race or Religion,
no Taking drawbacks, or rich parents)
Traits Limited to Ultimate Campaign as Listed
Social and Regional traits will help build character backstory.

Classes allowed: Core Rule Book Only
Level: 1
Archetypes sources Allowed: None
Races: Core (can use Non-core traits, but limited to 2 non-core racial traits)
Alignment: Non-Evil
Background Skills: Yes (But one has to be; profession(), perform(), or craft())
Starting Cash: Average
-> Can craft Weapons, Armour, and or alchemical items through crafting Skills to reduce equipment costs.
Starting HP: Max 1st level
Feats and Spells Allowed: CRB, Advanced Players Guide

Feat Changes: since some feat never see use now a days.
Exotic Weapon Prof and Skill feats (i.e. alertness, Stealthy, skill focus) will be BOGO (Buy One, Get One free), only once at first level.
Can take Exotic weapons from D&D 3.X's Arms and Equipment Guide (as long as there is not a PF version).

Power Attack and Combat Expertise are free if you have the requirements met,
and to make it easier to get the combat maneauver feats that are hardly taken.

Combat reflexes will augment both; Deflect arrows and Snatch arrow feats, such that you can do so each round equal to Dex mod + 1, if you have Combat Reflexes.
--------------

There will be NO Loot or EXP gained in this adventure, as this is more for getting into character for interested players for Mr Nevets Sunless Citadel Adventure.

I'll be able to take up to 7 players, for this mini-adventure and will modify it as needed.

Dot dot dot.

Am I correct in assuming that these creation parameters were worked out with Nevets, so they will reflect the parameters for Sunless Citadel? Or is it possible we may have to re-work them in-between.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I sent him my CC rules and he liked them, so these may be the exact rules and values he uses, or they could be slightly different when he starts his.

This adventure is short like 8 encounters or less, so I figure it'll be done around or before the first Week in August., if we have a good posting rate.

I'll stick with these rules, no worries. ;) They're well thought out and reasonable.

This is Dread. Ill rebuild Kilain here with these guidelines.

I think I'll clear up some things I seems to of missed or forgot to put into the OP, as there is always something that gets missed.

Equipment Sources: CRB, Advanced Players Guide, Arms and Equipment (Weapons only with no PF version existing)

Non-Core Race trait sources: Full Archive*
*Can take up to two, (one to one, many to one), or one (one to Many)

Closing Date: Sunday, July 19th 2021.

Edit:
Don't forget to add a Backstory and Description (including Height), though those can be worked on past July 19th.

Also I'll be tossing in my Fighter as a Character so I can start getting a feel for the character for the main game, but I'll still be taking up to 7 other players.

Dread - Dwarven Cleric
RHMG - Human Fighter
Ramza - Human? Bard

Hey RHMG, I know you listed the most you'd take, but would you run it with just three? Or is that two and running your own fighter through in preparation for Mr Nevets Sunless Citadel Adventure? Duh, just read your next-to-the-last post.

How long will you be leaving recruitment open for?

7 player characters + Mine is the max, the Min is 2 and myself.

The Game is more a filler and time killer until Mr Nevets Sunless Citadel Adventure starts in August while also allowing folks to get some time to get a better feel for their character.

I've already set a Closing Date of July 19th.
Though it could be sooner, if not may more post interest or characters.

Ack, sorry, so you did. I didn't do a very good job of reading that particular post. I knew you were running it as 'filler' for Sunless citadel. I had posted interest there as well.

So the group could use a wizard or rogue. But will roll with three. Good. Dread is a GM I play with and was hoping he could get in a game. It's nice when the GM's get to play as well :)

I like the idea of using "Social and Regional traits too help build character backstory." would you consider using a 'race' trait for this purpose as well?

I'll look at a few characters, need to decide if I want to put together something that would fit in Sunless Citadel as well. Since you may close early I'll let you know if I'm going to apply with something soon.

No problem, I've half read posts at times myself before going to bed.

And I do know GMs need to play as players as well at times as even GMs need a break from GMing at times.

The race traits can be used with backstory, but I'll still keep Social and Regional as required, though I do recall that is a race trait or two are for wanders, and they could replace a regional trait, and some change how the character was raised, so I'll require a case by case basis for a bypass.

And don't feel pigeon holed into a role, make what you want.

Which world is this set in?

Mr Nevets called his recruitment "PF1e Golarion-based Sunless Citadel" So I assumed Golarion. RHMG Animator is that your intent as well?

Linnea, what kind of character are you thinking?

Yep. Good old PF1 era Golarion is the setting.

So far we have a cleric, fighter, and bard. I'm thinking sorcerer, either stormborn or djinni bloodline. Pretty straightforward blaster build. Which one, and which race, depends on where in Golarion we are.

Don't feel the need to make something to fill a role, make what character you want to play.

I do want an arcane caster though! I've had terrible luck with those, any time I get into a game with a wizard or sorcerer the game dies a quick death. I want to get my lightning bolt on.

Cool, I was thinking elf wizard or druid to fill a caster roll. But with a wizard or sorcerer I'll go half elf switch hitting ranger.

I'll have a character up tomorrow morning. I will look at some traits to see if I can work in 'disable device for non-magical traps.'

Oops, djinni is from Ultimate Magic. Stormborn or starsoul, then. Still waiting to hear which region of Golarion the Sunless Citadel is in. Maybe Varisia or the River Kingdoms? Those have a similar vibe to the FR Dalelands. If you want something more like Greyhawk's Furyondy, probably Andoran or Taldor.

Definitely going with human as far as race goes. The favored class bonus is pretty great for sorcerers.

Character Ideas so Far.

Dread - Dwarven Cleric
RHMG - Human Fighter
Ramza - Human? Bard
RH - Half-Elf? Ranger
Linnea - Human? Sorcerer.

I just realized that the Cleric and Fighter might end up having an interesting dynamic.
A dwarf, and a Human with the Giant Ancestry race trait, yeah it'll be interesting.

Well it should depend, is she more giant or fey? If she looks more fey then maybe he'll just think she's a big pixie or are their giant fey?

So my half elf ranger is Iradyiel Madras I need to tweak traits, background skills and gear. But he's close.

edit:
Since skill focus is a race trait can he pick up stealthy or alertness for free?

Also is the standard crafting cost 1/3 rd?

Does the reginal trait need to be from their region in the backstory?

The Half-elf Skill focus feat, does not grant, an additional feat, only the First Level feat slot when used with an Exotic weapon or skill feat.

Crafting does reduce cost to 33% of the original price.

The Regional trait should match or mix well into another region that the character grew up in like their home town, or where they spent a good deal of time. I.e Desert Child (Desert) I would consider for any really warm regions not just a desert. Tundra Child can be used in Cold forests and Marshes, a Mountain or Highland could also have a forest. The only thing is the mix of region traits has to make sense.

Hey there, I've always loved the core rogue (against popular opinion). I'll get a halfling thief together.

Here's my halfling thief crunch. Will get backstory up soon as well.

I should correct and clear up the wording some on crafting to get reduced costs on equipment.

You can use crafting to reduce costs AS long as the crafting skill that makes the reduced cost item has 1 rank in it.
So to reduce armour cost you need a rank in Craft(Armor), to reduce weapon costs a rank in Craft (Weapon), etc.

Hey RHMG Animator, I've been trying to tweak Iradyiel's backstory to match the new set of traits. The more I try and 'fix him' the further he gets from the player I intended.

With the addition of a couple more players you certainly have enough folks to have a good game. I'm going to remove Iradyiel from the application process. I don't know if I'll have the time to build something from scratch. So for the moment take me off the list. If I get something I'm happy with before the 19th I'll drop back by.

Thanks for running the game.

Thanks for this...and i think Kilain is ready.

I've reviewed it,

The only part that is off is the BOGO feat, Scholar is found in the Adventurer's Guide.
But since it is to a degree a lesser version of Breadth of Experience from the APG, I'll allow it.

Liberty's Edge

I would like to throw my hat into the ring for this game if possible. I was looking to create an elven wizard (old school lol)

It is still open, so go for it, make what old school idea comes to mind.

Liberty's Edge

Ok...here is the crunch for my elven wizard...will work on the background next.

Tomorrow Morning, I'll be starting, you'll have until tomorrow night for a character.

I'm going to pull out of this one and concentrate elsewhere I think, thanks!

This is Linnea with my new sorcerer! Jenise has the starsoul bloodline, and is a native of Falcon's Hollow in Andoran. I haven't quite got her background done, but I have an idea of her personality. Stats are in this alias' profile.

Appearance:
Jenise is a young human woman of mixed ethnicity, like so many in Andoran. In her case, she's probably a throwback to an Ulfen ancestor. She has straight blonde hair that falls a few inches below her shoulders, blue eyes, lightly tanned skin, and a slender figure. Pretty enough, in a fresh-faced country girl kind of way. She's slightly taller than average for an Andoren woman.

Most of the time Jenise favors sturdy, utilitarian clothing in shades of blue, purple, gray and black, with no jewelry or tattooes. She carries a morningstar, dagger, and a light crossbow with a quiver of bolts.

Personality:
Shunned by many of her peers for her magical powers, Jenise turned to religion for solace. The night sky has always called to her, so it was natural to turn to Desna. Despite the oppressive atmosphere of her hometown of Falcon's Hollow, somehow Jenise has managed to retain a sunny temperament and sense of optimism. She's still as canny and sharp-eyed as any Valer, but the town hasn't managed to turn her bitter and jaded. The young sorceress made it out of the Hollow, now she's off to find adventure and fortune!

Gameplay and Discussion threads open.

So characters ready to go;
Kilain Gravendak
Ayla Titania Aiba
Adalphorius
Jenise Aldercroft
