Lars pretty much always wears his second skin, but he wouldn't have his pistol
"I have some magic that help, but not enough for all of them." Lars adds as he eyes the motes warily.
I'm not sure if there's a roll needed to answer Jaraduk's plan
Guess? |
Guess? doesn't own any armor, yet. He'll probably not have his rifle but potentially have his pistol and dogslicer on him.
In the world of Starfinder, is it dangerous to shoot some types of weapons on a ship? Laser weapons are, I suppose, harmlessly absorbed by the walls. But would projectile weapons like the autopistols risk causing hull breaches and decompression? This will determine what Guess? is carrying.
Strek Armstrom |
I believe it's written somewhere that Starship weapons deal x100 damage to non-Starship targets, so if you can get your pistol to deal 100d6 damage, then we can start worrying about damaging the bulkheads ;-)
Strek wears heavy armor but he's not a frontliner so he can just grab his rifle if everyone else wants to get a jump on them.
Del Reisora |
Del would also have her armor on all the time, just in case of decompression or something.
"Well, don't just sit there!" Del remarks. "BD won't be very good at keeping us safe if we let them suck her dry!"
Del hurries to the power core in the engineering room, suspecting the motes will be most attracted to the core.
Stand up and move.
Akh Xi |
I guess regardless of what we learn about their punchability and the preferred strategy for dealing with them...
Not wanting to waste time in case the motes will act fast, Akh sinuously floats his way through the galley and into the cargo hold where two of the motes are currently hard at work sucking the ship's circuits dry. He shouts out to the rest of the crew "Yes, two here. Del, do we smash them?" His claws begin to buzz with dissolving energy.
Guess? |
Ha! 100d6 pistol! Yummy!! Thanks for the info AND the fleeting, yet fun, thought of over-powered-ness!
Upon hearing that the strange lights are actually invasive creatures to be expelled from the ship, Guess?, says, "Say whaaaaat?? In that case, I'm NOT heading to the lavatory alone. Right behind ya, Akh Xi!" Guess? draws his pistol and follows behind Akh Xi into the cargo hold.
If allowed, Guess? will hold onto a fire extinguisher in his off-hand as he's still worried about potential shipboard fires.
Del Reisora |
Del calls back to Akh, "I don't know! But we've gotta do something!"
She doesn't know anything about their defences or abilities.
Strek Armstrom |
Believing that they won't harm him until the guns start blazing, Strek whistles innocently, walks past the two in Engineering, and shoulders his heavy artillery rifle.
Lars Pith |
Lars follows along with the group, spells on his mind.
Jaraduk Cometrunner |
Yeah, I suppose it would be too convenient if an electrical phenomena could just be found in the drift to shake them off :)

After realizing that there are no juicier targets for the motes, and that you’re trapped within the ship with them, the group scrambles to combat the Drift Motes that are threatening your systems. You’re not quite sure what will or won’t hurt the Drift beings, but you’ve got to try! Some of the crew, their smaller weapons always at the ready, run towards the Motes and keep an eye on them. If you have a smaller weapon that would usually be on your character (like a pistol), choose a room with a Mote in it and place your character prior to the fight. The remainder of the crew run to their bunks to grab their guns! If you have a larger weapon, place your character by your bunk. (In either dorm, or the engineering bay for Strek From your position, you’re able to see the hazy purple energy creatures flit from wire to wire, occasionally floating through the starship walls. They seem to ignore your presence, eager to feed. On the team comm, Guess? counts down from 6 and then you attack! Alright, y’all get a surprise round on the Motes, after you have moved into place. Place your character and call out your targets.
It is the Surprise Round. Everyone is up!

Reflex Save, DC 14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
In the engine room, the mote lifts from the drift conduit, ice cream melting from it's form. It dances in place briefly, apparently angry. Then, it unleashes a cascade of electricity that rushes along the ground and into Del! Pass a DC 11 Reflex save for half damage! On the other side of the room, Strek lines up his shot but the mote hovers just off the wire and lobs a small blob of electricity at Del! Thankfully this one dissipates mid-air.

Just then the wounded mote spins in place - in a very cute way - then barfs electricity over both the dragon and the goblin! Pass a DC 11 Reflex save for half damage! The second mote hovers closer to the dragon and emits a small purple bolt of electricity which splashes harmlessly against Akh's armor. Both are supernatural attacks, no AoO.

What a round of dice rolls! Yikes. In good news, I remembered that there is art for this fight! See Slide 2 for a lovely tableau.
Strek, Jaraduk, and Guess? all paint new scoring scars on the ship’s interior walls. Good thing EJ doesn’t perform wellness checks on their ship until you leave the company or they upgrade the ship. (Like that would ever happen!) Akh has similar problems in the cargo hold, swiping at the air as the motes dodge and weave in random patterns. Are they dodging? Or are they just oblivious to the danger? Back in the engine room, Del takes the brunt of the electrical attack, her armor flashing warning signs as her skin burns from the shock. The tall Sarcesian stands her ground, however, the battle glove colliding with the mote and evaporating some energy whisps. Between her and Strek, Lars’ spell sends a technological tsunami at the other Drift Mote. The purple being makes a soft pop sound and disappears.
In the portside quarters, Jaraduk grinds his molars in frustration as the mote he fired on seems to melt into the environmental control unit above one of the beds, disappearing through the wall. Back in the Drift Engine room, the mote floats around the corner of the engine to shoot a small blast of lightning that flies over Lars' shoulder. Triggering an AoO from Del!

In the starboard cargo hold, things aren't going so well. The motes slowly float through the air, very focused on Akh. A small jolt of electricity zaps into the android, blowing a small, but key, capacitor. The second Drift being turns a bright white for a moment before releasing a wave of energy! Guess? thanks his lucky stars as the electrical storm peters out just before reaching him.

A creak comes from the engine room, echoing throughout the loud ship. Strek and Lars diagnose the problem right away. A key power conduit's voltage has dropped below optimum, leading to uneven power levels within the Drift Engine. It's not a problem, if the duo can fix it before it gets worse...
