Strek nods, UNstretches his arm, and hands the datapad back to the Lashunta, "Good ol' fashion ransomware setup right thur. Someone wants yer data, and they want ya to pay a whole heap a money for it. But we got yer back, on account of us bein' business partners. We gotta pick up some parts in town to tackle it. Shouldn't cost more than 20 creds. If you can part with that, good chance we can fix it for ya. I ain't sayin' a hunnerd percent. But good chance."

At Jaraduk's surprise, Del heads outside to see the berry shipment.
"Whoa!" Del exclaims. After a moment of assessment she puts her hands on her hips and announces, "Nothing a little effort and some hard work can't handle, Jaraduk. We've got this!" She pats him on the shoulder. "I'll swing the ship around."

To clarify, you're working with the cargo rig (read: semi-truck cab with an inflatable cargo hold) not the ship.
Strek and Lars get to work on the goblin code, but are unable to decipher the cryptic problem. Thankfully, they have plenty of time! There's no lockout or serious countermeasure, so I think you can just Take 20 on this bad boy. After about a minute of struggling, the pair crack it! As Strek stretttttches to hand the datapad back to Guess, the store owner gets off the phone with a frown. "Bad news, I don't get paid until these arrive safely on Akiton." He looks like he might break out into tears. "I suppose y'all better go fast. Please." He gladly accepts the pad back and forces a smile. "Hold up. Just a minute!" He rushes out of the office and into the store, returning with two crates of yaro berries! "Slid these off the shelves, don't tell Needa." He smiles again, a little more real this time. "Ship rations can get pretty stale on a long Drift run,” he hands one to Strek and Lars gratefully. He then passes the other to Guess?. “And hopefully this will serve as a payment on that insurance plan. Courtesy of Prat’s Produce.” Your expert eyes, trained from either years of trading across the stars - or from reading the Evgeniya-Jaimisson manifest - estimate that you could sell each of these crates for 500 credits at your destination. Those Diplomacy checks combined with the Engineering and Computers checks did the magic!
With your personal crates stowed and Runo having (finally) shifted the ownership paperwork of the berries over to you, the whole crew joins together in the warehouse. It takes 8 hours, tiring many of you, but you'll survive. I mean, you better, since you'll have to drive the rig back to the starport and spend another 8 hours unloading it. (It's about to be a very long day. Too bad EJ doesn't pay overtime.) As you load up, Runo meets you briefly outside the warehouse doors before you depart. “Siski will give you a fair price for this shipment,” he tells them. “She runs Ka Imports in Hivemarket. You tell her I sent you! We go way back.” A longtime salesman, whose retirement is relying on this sale, and his good friend and purchaser. What could possibly go wrong?!
You get back in the cab and head back to the starport. The city is a constant buzz. Spacecraft hum in nearby docking facilities and zoom overhead while merchants and crowds of tourists chatter; the rumbling engine of the cargo rig below merges seamlessly into the urban symphony. As the spaceport comes back into view, up ahead, an old woman pushing a cart across the street yelps in alarm as her cart tips over and rusty tanks of petrol tumble out, scattering in every direction. Traffic stops and drivers in nearby vehicles shout, but the old woman ignores them. Instead, she walks slowly to one of the rolling tanks, picks it up, and carefully cradles it in her arms as she returns to the fallen cart.
Check 1
That's not an old woman! That's a robot! Worse, it's a robot made of junk welded together! I mean, look at it! It's barely functioning!
Check 2
Whoa! Five space goblins have piloted their junkcycles to the back of the hover trailer! While your cab is stopped in the traffic created by the old woman's mess, they have begun unloading crates of Yaro berries from the open back! You're being robbed!
Slide 1 shows the current map. I haven't populated it yet, but I will tomorrow. The goblins are at the back of the transport, stealing from you. You're around the cab. If you passed this check, you get a surprise round against them.
Sorry for the lack of consistent post timing this week! This was a rough week, work wise. It will get better.

Guess? is too busy examining his teeth in a mirror to notice anything else going on around him.
"Say, anyone ever notice one of my teeth is about a quarter millimeter shorter than it's equivalent on the other side of my mouth? I mean, they're both nice and spiky and exhibit a healthy yellow hue in natural light as all REAL teeth should. But I've got just a slight bit of asymmetry here. Lemme see if I can fix that..."
Until someone draws his attention to something else, he concentrates on using his morphic skin to try and adjust his teeth length... which is apparently kind of tricky....

Guess? then points towards Akh Xi, Del and Jaraduk and whispers, "Try to look badass.." but completely ignores Strek and Lars. Guess? then continues yelling menacingly...

Jaraduk squints and frowns as conversation flows to... asymmetrical teeth. He then opens the camera on his datapad to use as a sort of mirror and begins self-consciously checking the symmetry of his horns...
Then the yelling begins. Robbing us?!
Dropping the datapad on top of the cab, Jaraduk hops off the back and in the same swift motion draws his subzero hailcannon. He tries to strike a menacing stance as he towers over the goblins. His aim darts between goblins as he begins to yell threats.
Stop. Right. There. If any of you continues moving I'm going to make self-microwaving frozen goblin sticks out of ALL of you!

Lars and Strek catch sight of the five goblins who have just opened up the back of the hover trailer and are grabbing crates of berries! Map on Slide 1 is updated! Pictures on Slide 2 are updated! The pair alerts the rest of the crew but they seize the initiative. Lars and Strek beat the Perception DC so they get a Surprise round. In addition...

As Guess? sticks his head out the cab window and yells at the goblin crew in an intimidating voice, they all freeze like villains in a cartoon. Then the moment is shattered as one of them yells at the top of his lungs. CHEEEEEEF! This fearful call is quickly echoed by the other four goblins. "CHEEEEEEEEEEF!" The first goblin waves the others towards the cab frantically. "Khiav! Nws yog Cheeeef! Lob thiab mus! Lob thiab mus!"
"Run! It's the Cheeeef! Grab and go! Grab and go!"
Two of the goblins (yellow and blue) drop the crates of berries in their hands and grab at their pistols. The other three hold onto their crates for dear life and run back to their junky motorcycles! No actual actions being taken here, as they lost initiative, but I wanted to show their intentions.
You get a good view of the cramped and busy street around you. The goblins appear to be attempting to ferry crates from your trailer to their junkcycles, which can carry a few boxes. Those junkcycles are going to get in everyone's way (and provide cover). In front of you the junkbot decoy "old woman" is surrounded by cans of petrol that have rolled across the street from her "fall". Those cans are the little red boxes on the map. The hover trailer is in your way, though if you can find a way to scale the 15 foot tall walls it would make a sturdy place to stand. As if the situation wasn't difficult enough, you can see onlookers starting to close in with their phone cameras lit up!
Those cans of petrol are likely quite explosive! They look old and fragile and would probably explode at the first touch of an energy attack, and maybe even a kinetic one. They're small so they'll only explode in the close vicinity but they have the potential to really hurt.
Lars and Strek get a Surprise Round. Jaraduk, Akh, Lars, and Strek get to act in Round 1 before the goblins. Everyone in Bold is up!

Pre-combat:
Akh had been taking casually long leaps through the air for quite some time before the shouts of his recent partners had drawn his attention. He lands next to the cargo-rig and draws himself up to his full towering height and flexes his claws. His scales glitter in the light and he intentionally looms over the goblins.
He slowly lowers his head down and booms "Oh. Yes. They're stealing some berries. That is a problem."
----
In combat:
Akh lifts off from his spot near the cargo-hauler, arcing through the air with a sudden swiftness. Spending 1 EP to get +10 fly speed. He draws his taclash as he goes, swinging it around in menacing fashion just before landing. "Gently place the berries on the ground, then assume the party escort position." Belatedly he adds "Or else."
Since Akh double moved, he regains 1 EP. Keep in mind that he threatens 15ft. If something goblinish provokes, here's an AoO.

"More! More!"
Del and Guess? are a little slower getting out of the cab so both see the robot disguised as an old woman slowly stretch up to it's full height and turn towards them! The robot shuffles slowly around the side of the cab, sidestepping loose petrol cans as it goes. It pulls up next to the open driver-side door and you get a closer look. It mumbles something in a vaguely humanoid voice, but you can't pick up any words. Hooded clothing is draped over it's metal frame and a cheap wig serves to give it a passing appearance of a humanoid. (Though Guess? hasn't seen a wig that bad in years.) The droid doesn't appear to be doing anything at the moment, but there is not doubt it is up to something. Meanwhile, the bystanders edge closer to the action - either to get a better look, an improved clarity on their datapad recording, or to see if they could take advantage of the situation in some way.

At the back of the truck things are less dangerous but definitely more chaotic. One goblin just starts screaming, staring upwards at Akh. His hands are not so frozen however, grabbing a crate of yaro berries from one junkcycle and placing it on the other. A second goblin yells out, in Common this time, "BAD DRAGON! NO EAT LEFTFOOT! LEFTFOOT NOT TASTY!" The goblin runs back towards the hover truck, earning a stiff lashing from Akh. A third goblin follows behind, each grabbing another crate of berries from the trailer. Strek recognizes the creature as a goblin junkbot! This appears to be a particularly powerful one, as most junkbots are less powerful than their creators. Junkbots are creations with a very limited lifespan - put together with hot glue, tape, and love - and tend to ruin the components they are made out of. One common weakness of junkbots is that they are very unstable. Damaging it's weak point, the petrol tank, (Critical Hit) would likely result in a catastrophic and explosive failure. Which puts us in an awkward position, given your next roll... I'll let you swap targets, if you want. You shouldn't be punished for an artifact of the PbP system. Of course, it is still a gamble since you're using Fire damage. :)

Jaraduk changes targets and lets off a tight shot around the bed of the truck. His blast hits the goblin in the side, the force propelling the goblin to the ground - where he stays.
Reflex, DC 15: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
At the front of the truck Del continues her fiery duel with the machine. Her fiery blast burns away the robot's wig, leaving a horrifying melted plastic face. The robot, who hadn't attempted to dodge at all, slowly looks over at Del. It's body shakes, but stays standing! The robot's arms reach up, pull off the melting façade to reveal a pair of plastic tubes and an igniter! A splash of petrol ejects from the robot's "mouths", turning into flame in mid-air! The fire pours over Del's thin frame, threatening to overcome her!
Breath Weapon: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 8) = 13 Reflex DC 10 for half damage!
At the back of the truck, the lone goblin looks around frantically. He throws up his hands in the air and screams "I SHOULDA STAYED ON STATION!" He then runs full speed towards the semi-loaded bike at the rear, abandoning his fallen crate. Unfortunately for him, Akh was ready. The taclash wraps around the small goblin, knocking him unconscious. The bystander by Strek turns in place to record the fight between the robot and Del, whispering, "Uh... is that supposed to happen?"

"Guess so!" yells Guess?
Guess? then moves towards the bot and yells, "Your breath is so bad, it's got Del all fired up!"

Akh is anything but medically knowledgeable, but the goblins scattered around behind the truck look like they won't be getting up soon. Or maybe they're napping. It's sometimes difficult to tell. He sets down the crate he retrieved and draws his pistol. He sights the junkbot and tries for a shot to take it out before it does Del in.

"Goblin thieves are all quieted down. Berries both safe and still juicy."

Uh, that was funny Guess? but I think Del is really hurt! The nuar seems genuinely concerned as he moves back towards the front of the struct.

"Uh... is that supposed to happen?"
"Do I look like I'm from this crazy rock?"
I... Don't know what Strek should do. He probably can't hurt that robot... Is there anything he can do in the back to start taking care of those berries?
Guess? |
Perhaps run action towards Del and prepare to administer first aid in case she fails the reflex save and goes unconscious?
"Agreed, Jaraduk! Just trying to distract that bot and find an opening - but it seems the sights on my rifle are misaligned!
"Strek, do you have med training? Del's looking pretty hurt!"
Lars Pith |
Seeing and hearing the goblins are down but the junkbot is still attacking, Lars runs down and around the end of the truck, hoping to assist as best he can when he gets there.
double move, I'll need to move my icon later today

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Del's at 3/9 HP.
Del manages to twist out of the way of most of the flames again, leaving her heavily burned but still standing. Seeing her crew arrive on the scene she grins and staggers back a bit.
"Held her off for you," she mutters as she pulls out a healing potion from her pocket.
Move and pull out a potion.
Strek Armstrom |
"I ain't medic trained. I can regrow my limbs."
But he does have a fire extinguisher. Can someone double move Strek towards the action? I'm driving for a bit.

As Guess?'s shot ricochets off the pavement, Akh squeezes off a lucky shot with his pistol! The bullet goes through the hip of the robot, throwing it off balance. The rest of the team rushes to the scene as Del backs off.
The robot woman shifts her attention, shuffling slowly towards the grouping of Guess?, Strek, and a bystander! A wheezing sound comes from the dual pipes where her mouth should be and she manages to get within arms reach of Guess? and the frightened onlooker!

Guess? opens his mouth as though about to breath fire upon the bot, then yells, "PSYCHE!!!" Guess? backs off a bit (which will provoke) and fires a shot at the bot!
