Guess? walks over to the down but stable hobgoblin and points his rifle at Shenk, point blank and says, "Yes we did. And the plan is to NOT let these two witnesses survive since we can't be seen by the GA to be taking the Marixah Republic side of the war - even though we actually have picked a side, as evidenced by this little Firstday (aka Sunday) afternoon drive of ours..."

Unless someone says something otherwise to convince Guess? not to, Guess? will stick to the plan previously discussed and shoot Shenk next round. I didn't want to this round without giving everyone a chance to stop Guess? from doing so.

Now that you can get a look at her (and the player has a new keyboard that ISNT spamming random letters and sparking because I spilled coffee on it) You can see that Melissa is slightly short for a Ysoki, coming in around three foot four, but with a rather broad build. Or maybe thats a lot of fur. Bright blue eyes are large enough to see even around some sort of powered lenses flipped down from a EJ industrial hardened ballcap. She's cut slots in the cap so her pink rimmed ears can both slip through with room to swivel and fold, feature she's showing off in spades at the moment.

She has Light gray fur along her back and head. The Rat's belly fur is probably white but at the moment is barely lighter than her back due to an entire lifetime* of pulverized rock an entire week of basic training didn't manage to wash out. The heart shaped patch of ivory fur around her face on the other hand is nearly pristine, save for a few doughnut sprinkles she'd fallen asleep with.

Even for a Ysoki she's gone out of her way to minimize the amount of space the outfit occupies. The bulk of it is a blue vest with "EJ Delivery take: it to the Ede !" embroidered on it, the Company logo repeated twice as the slogan and department are clearly in different fonts. Hematite bracelets, anklets, and tail ring extend the armors force field and protection away from the center. Three undone zip ties and a duct taped USB cable dangle from the back right, waiting another armor upgrade.

Incongruously, there's a bright pink bow tied onto her tail. the purple embroidery reads "Because those that care are bad at telling" in ysoki.

sense motive higher than that:
Level 62 is a small, but legitimate resistance unit. She is a member of the resistance. Not exactly an enthusiastic one. That is in fact the plan, and she thinks this is some sort of inter agency miscommunication. However the box she was hiding in was filled with food, water, and two rocks for weight. None of it is military issue (except the rocks)

sleight of handtail: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

perception higher than that:
The label from the box she was trying to hide indicates it was supposed to get shipped off planet. The box is filled with food, water, and two rocks for weight. None of it is military issue (except the rocks)

While those in the back of the truck wrestle through an ethical dilemma (ha, perhaps "we're no heroes" is fitting after all?) and get to know Melissa, Jaraduk and Del are dealing with more pressing issues in the cab. Del uses her battleglove to put several softball-sized holes in the dashboard before Jaraduk's doshko opens a very large artery in the hobgoblin's chest. Those rolls really RP'd the whole distracted driver thing. The soldier, Private Glaka, falls unconscious instantly and slumps against the front of the cab. From the rapidly expanding pool of blood, she'll be dead in seconds.

COMBAT OVER!

Del looks at the map and calls out over the coms, "twenty, maybe forty seconds until they catch up!" 4 rounds remaining, Del can attempt two more piloting checks to extend that to 6 rounds. Please feel free to take actions for all 4 (5? 6?) rounds now, if you want to do anything.

The planetary comm unit survived Del's fevered punches, and it gleams invitingly. Nobody has called back to the other truck yet, I seem to remember interest in that before. The window in the back of the cab is just big enough that a person smaller than Akh and Del could squeeze through it. That way y'all aren't stuck in your respective spots. The com is in the cab.

Jaraduk looks slightly shocked at the body in front of him for a moment. Then shakes it off and remembers why.

Right. This resistance business is messy. Damn oppressors...

He stows his doshko back over his shoulder, fixing it on his back, and begins to heft the hobgoblin body for ejection out of the cab.

If you're doing it for the three rounds the hobgoblin is dying, it would be a Reposition. After that, just a standard action to pick up or drag without a check.

Jaraduk's intense, serious expression breaks and turns to confusion for only an instant before he turns to Guess? for confirmation.

He frowns slightly, adding It's really starting to seem we're in the wrong line of work and that our professional decisions are at odds with our collective nature. Welcome to the starving philanthropists.

Akh looks back and forth between the ysoki, Guess as a dwarf, and Jaraduk. Precious seconds tick away before he nods "You were going to pretend to be us and get us in trouble! That's very opportunistic of you. How about you never do that in the future. Please."

After a moment more of looking at the hobgoblin, he adds "The problem we have now is not the bodies. The problem is that we need to get this truck to the rebels without the other truck following." Akh nods "One suggestion - we all pretend to be corpses - the more obviously charred and beaten the better. One of us is the 'survivor' and they call the other truck. Guess, they trust you, yes? The survivor whispers something similar to 'There's rebels, they've taken the truck, killed everyone. They have bombs and are planning to take your truck next while you're still unaware. You need to run away, there's too many.' That's a good trick, isn't it?" Akh gets ready to drop to the deck of the truck. "Who wants to shoot me to make it more convincing?"

"Akh, Melissa: let's take up positions and fire on the second truck with these disguises on in case Del can't keep 'em off our tail!

"Akh, we'll go with your idea as plan B if this doesn't work, okay? Let's not beat ourselves up just yet." Guess? looks at Melissa - watching for any signs of disappointment at Guess? delaying Melissa the opportunity to shoot us all.

"Del! Think you can lose 'em for good now??"

As the party takes a hard turn towards the dark side, the following truck rounds the mountain and comes back into sight. The radio crackles to life and a hobgoblin calls back in calm Common. "Ambush? Roger. It was a matter of time." The radio hisses for a moment as the channel changes."Base, we have rebel activity on the mount. Truck 1 is under attack. I repeat, Truck 1 is under attack." A second voice responds. "Understood. Enercopters are on the way." The radio hisses back. "Little goblin, hold tight. We'll be there soon to show those dirty rat-dwarves who means business."

The following vehicle quickly closes the distance between the two of you as the seconds pass. It's nearly on you, about to ram the back of your hover truck. At Jaraduk's dwarven speech, the radio goes off again. "Base, it appears the rebels have taken over the lead cab. If we can't defend them, we'll avenge them." In the background of the call you can hear Lars quietly, and unenthusiastically, say "Yeah, get 'em! Those poor dead EJ employees... oh no..." When you drop the hobgoblin's body off the back of the truck, the second hover vehicle swerves and slows down to avoid hitting them. But the pursuers do manage to get around without completely stopping. Just as you turn around the next mountain peak you see the second hover truck accelerating once again!

Alright... reinforcements are on the way and you've pulled off the ruse so far. Given the distance from the base camp to here, you think you have at least 10 minutes till the copters get here. And thanks to your brutal creativity you've kept the second truck off your back until then.

I've got the same questions as Melissa. What happens next mechanically with the truck chase? A few rough piloting checks for Del? A series of party skill challenges?

If the second truck is in sight, then Guess? will fire at them. In this case, is it easier to shoot at the truck's driver? Or a hover truck's equivalent of tires? With the idea being to either slow them down or disable them.

While behind cover, Guess? heeds Melissa's advice to lie down prone and get ready to fire.

Yeah, where is the rebel base in relation to us right now?

Akh activates his holoskin and bunches up his exceedingly long body as best as he can, turning into the universe's 100% least convincing dwarf. He tries to mitigate this by taking up cover behind some boxes so that only his extremities are visible from the following truck. He whispers through his comms. Del continues to drive up the windy mountain, but the tough terrain and unpredictable curves seem to be slowing her down more than the following truck - who has driven this route many times before. They're a few miles behind you at the moment, though that gap is closing with every minute that passes. At you current speed, the enercopter reinforcements will arrive about a minute before the fork that should turn off towards the rebel base and the following truck will catch up around the same time. Though, you doubt the truck could do much to you when chasing you at high speeds other than harassing fire and - if their driver is good enough - colliding with your bumper to throw off Del's driving. This is an odd encounter. It's not a Vehicle Chase but you are allowed to get creative and Del can use some Vehicle Chase actions to interact with the enercopters and truck. It's pretty open, let me know if you want to do something like that and I'll adjudicate it as it comes up.

Engineering, DC 15:

You got a good glimpse of the enercopters back at the base. They did not appear to be military vehicles, too lightly armored and without any innate weaponry. They were likely civilian vehicles local to Vohxa that were commandeered by the hobgoblins. Light enercopters are simple aircraft with single pilots, cramped seating, and large openings on both sides of the vehicle. These enercopters did appear to be equipped with one piece of non-standard equipment: cable lines that allow passengers to descend to the ground when the vehicle is still aloft.

The road is narrow and exceptionally windy this high up. To one side is a calamitous drop down the mountainside; to the other is a sheer cliff wall. You thank your lucky stars that you have such an experienced driver, as it is likely to only get worse from here.

Physical Science, DC 12:

You look over the map of the route the hobgoblins provided. The next stretch of road appears rougher, with warnings about rock avalanches and rebel skirmishes. It looks like you'll go over a long stone bridge across a canyon just before the Mount Winterpeak turnoff and through a tunnel right after. Those enercopters aren't going to do well in the tunnel...

With hurried shouts and waving hands, you prevent Melissa from opening one of the crates just in time. You fill her in, that every crate (beside the one that was put on the truck by her rebel unit) is sealed with drow explosive tape. The rebels should have the time and materials to open them safely, but cracking them open now would be catastrophic to the hover truck. My bad, that was explained before you arrived.

That seems fair, given the emphasis on the map and the terrain. I'd say anyone in the cab can sacrifice a Move action to Aid Piloting if they'd like.

About 8 minutes pass, and you hear the occasional call of coordinates going back and forth between the chasing truck and the enercopter reinforcements. It seems the reinforcements are about two minutes away, in fact you feel like you might be able to see them off in the distance - over the cliff and several miles away. Meanwhile, the hover truck is closing the distance on you no matter how hard Del drives. It's a little over 2000 feet away at this point. Del's foot digs even further into the floor, trying to get anything extra the engine can offer.

The next two minutes pass slowly, as the enercopters draw closer. Eventually their forms coalesce and you can make out three of them! By the time they arrive to your truck, the following hover vehicle is about 100 feet behind. With a roar of their hover engines, the trio of enercopters skim up the cover of the sharp cliff face to fly right up next to your truck! Two of the copters pull up alongside the truck bed, ending up about 30 feet above you. The other enercopter dives in front of the hover truck, maintaining speed with you. Gideron Authority soldiers poke their heads through the open sides of the vehicles, whooping and brandishing taclashes and laser rifles.

Initiative Rolls:

Foes: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Strek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Melissa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Thankfully, you were ready for them! Everyone but Melissa manages to beat the hobgoblins to the punch. The hobgoblins have partial cover to you thanks to the enercopter. You can fire at any of the hobgoblins inside the vehicles or the vehicles themselves.

Engineering, DC 21:

These are light enercopters. They are made of metal (Hardness 5) and are not very durable [HP 35 (17)]. Light enercopters are simple aircraft with single pilots, cramped seating, and large openings on both sides of the vehicle. Although used for civilian purposes, they are also employed by military units for inexpensive reconnaissance. The pilot of a light enercopter has improved cover but can’t attack out of the vehicle. If you beat this DC by 5 or more, you get another question(s).

Including result of Jaraduk and Del's Round 1 Move action here...
Del, with Jaraduk's navigation tips, manages to round the winding path with ease. She stays ahead of the trailing truck, which ends up only gaining 10 feet on your vehicle. Nice roll, you managed to keep the second truck to 90 feet away at the end of Round 1. Both of you still get a Standard action for Round 1.
