OK, I've got three dice to resist!
resist insight: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) = 8
I'll get a post up shortly.

Lolo Aeolo |

Casia marks the two figures without looking at them directly. "Do we distract them or remove them?" she asks.
This seems like a good opportunity for Lolo to post up on a nearby rooftop. In case anything goes awry she can shoot or suppress the park folks.
As for how to proceed, maybe continue with a distraction of some sort? I'm a little hesitant to break out the ultraviolence just quite yet :)

Jonah Torrson |

Some ideas on how we could proceed. Jonah (or someone) could maybe flashback to have info gathered the password or security protocols for the day. A couple of ways to do that.
1. Sway - to bribe one of the red sashes.
2. Buy a gambling debt of one of the red sashes. (This would cost Coin) If he gives us the password or entry, we forgive his debt. Not sure what action this would be.
3. Attune to Compel a spirit to lurk and listen for it and bring it back to us.
4. Prowl, Survey or Study the house ahead of time in order to overhear the password or how entry is normally secured by those making deliveries or pick ups.
OR We just stick with the original cover story of being flunkies ordered by Mylara to use the casket as an easy means to pickup and ship the goods past the Bluecoats. All very last minute to take advantage of the young nobles sudden demise per our paperwork and cover story with the Bluecoats. This is probably a Sway. I could offer an assist if needed.
Agreed, that it might be good for Lolo to slip to a good vantage point to cover the rest of us getting in and possibly getting back out.

Finraeth |

I think we've established that Lolo is in the cart. As I said in gameplay, we're kind of conspicuous so I think trying to creep out the cart and up onto a rooftop is going to be problematic unless we create a distraction - which could cause its own problems.
I like the idea of a flashback, though. Maybe Lolo could use Hunt and we could say she spent several hours earlier today watching the house from a safe distance? That way she might also hear any passwords they're using.

Lolo Aeolo |

I assumed that the cart holds the coffin (and Casia) and not much else. Probably one of us pulling it, and the rest of us walking alongside and behind it.
I agree that the only way Lolo gets to the roof is with a distraction. I did forget that we were just going to bluff a way in though - I went to default "lurk" mode :)
Flashback sounds good.

Sarah the GM |

WEll, you're goig to be spending several hours crouched down in the mud and wet of the park watching the house. Let's say you can get +1d but some of your balck powder gets damp. Every time you fire a gun on this score, roll a separte d6 Fortune dice. On a 1-3, the shot fails and you will have to clear the weapon before you can try again.

July 4th weekend is hell for me as it royally f+~&s with me sleep with people firing fireworks at all times of night right nearby. Worst part of living in a city. I just woke up from a nap since it’s the first quiet time I’m had.
I saw Lolo mention me talking to people to get inside over in gameplay, but I was waiting for you to tell me what I needed to roll for it. Apologies if I missed that.

Lolo Aeolo |

I saw Lolo mention me talking to people to get inside over in gameplay
Sorry, I thought this was something you were attempting. Didn't intend to put it in your court if that was the intention.
I'm swamped at work and will be through tomorrow.

Sarah the GM |

I'm sorry to hear that, thanks for chekcing in to keep us posted.
Honestly this game is really opene eneded: you tell me what you want to do and what gear you want to use to try and do it, we decide together what Action that sounds like and then you roll and I tell you what happens. Right now I'm waiting to hear what you want to do :)

Casia Spinther |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

You may disagree, but my thinking is that we have already established that we are not the normal people doing this run. I figured it would be more reasonable to acknowledge that they will probably have questions about this fact than to try to gloss over it. I know if I was doing guard duty at a criminal enterprise and some rando showed up with the password of the day, I sure as hell would have questions.
Nope. I don't disagree at all. It makes perfect sense to me.
Casia, on the other hand, is a little full of herself and always thinks that she knows best in these sort of situations.
Spoiler: She doesn't. XD

Sarah the GM |

So your position was Risky, and your failure manes things are now Desperate. You can try another Sway, but if things go wrong this time it will be really bad. In addition I'm making another alert clock atd ticking it twice. You had the pasword but they weren't expecitng you and something is "off"
Still, you haent taken any Harm. Yet.

Lolo Aeolo |

Lolo has one dot in sway as well. She can assist, though if someone with less stress wants to, that's OK with me!

Finraeth |

You don't need dots in an action to be able to assist; although sadly, Dareia is the one with least stress and she's the one who needs the assist!
@GM Sarah, would it still be a Desperate position if we just said "screw it" at this point and opted for violence? Or would we be able to use the element of surprise? (I realise they're suspicious, but hopefully not that suspicious - yet!)

Lolo Aeolo |

^ Oh that's right, thank you. I'm still getting the who does what confused with this system.
Since Lolo and Dareia both have one dot in Sway, maybe Lolo takes the assist from Dareia?

Jonah Torrson |

I've also got a dot in sway, and I've one less stress than Lolo so I could Assist.
But I'm a bit confused as to what the Flashback for the password actually got us? I thought it was so we had the password and could move past the guards to the next challenge. Did that happen? I think I may be a bit lost as to what the actual challenge is or the timing of something within the narrative. Is this a new challenge around convincing them to give us the goods and that's where the 1 happens?

Dareia Aristedel Elpis |

@Jonah that was my confusion before, too, but then I wrote it off because I was so tired last weekend. I thought that Lolo’s flashback was to get past the challenge of the guards and I was waiting for GM Sarah to present the next challenge. The flashback got us the general process to get through here and the password but it didn’t actually complete the challenge afaik?
Since nobody is particularly better off and there’s talk of just going to violence anyways, I’ll just give the sway a go and see what happens. Will also keep us moving. I just wanted to make sure I checked in first since it’s a roll that would potentially derail the whole mission.
Sway: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Sarah the GM |

So.Many.Peiople.
But thanks, it was fun! :)

Yes, let's do a quick recap, fro my benfit as much as anyone elses!
You spotted the guards outside the house, and decided to try and persade them to let you pass (aka the reverse Gandlalf), instead of fighting them. The flashback got you the password, without that you have practicly zero cahnce of succeeding. Imagine it from their point of view, a bunch of people turn up with a cart claiming that they need the stash, you weren't expecting them, what would you do? Be very supicious is my guess.
You're still unexpected, but at least you have the password. Dary's latest success moves you back to Risky from Depsperate, and gives you 1 tick in the clock I'm now making which is "persuade them you belong".
3 ticks still need to be filled, you can use an appropriate action and anyone cn have a go. Just let me know what you're doing :)

Lolo Aeolo |

This is helpful, thank you GM! I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed.
Bluff, something along the lines of, look, we can call our guy to get this sorted, but he's gonna be pissed to waste his time on this - that sort of thing?

Jonah Torrson |

How about a brief flashback, or maybe it is just a setup, to get some kids to start raising a ruckus just outside the house? There's got to be plenty of loitering, bored teenagers about. Have them fake a fight or argument or some other thing to help distract and draw the guards attention to deal with clearing them out? I guess that would be either Sway or Consort to get them to do it.

Jonah Torrson |

Another option, might be to use Wreck to have started a fire at the house next door using some lantern oil. Jonah could have run ahead of the wagon to arrive early and get it started. Then met back up with everyone. Of course, I don't have a dot in Wreck, maybe I use Prowl instead to avoid being seen which could be the more challenging part?

Finraeth |

Genuine LOL at "reverse Gandalf" - every good con needs a suitable name!
Those flashbacks could work, but so could a bit of browbeating, like "come on, you really think Herself (which I'm assuming is Mylera Klev) bothered to write stuff down for us?"
Command: 1d6 ⇒ 3
OK, decent idea, poor execution :(

Sarah the GM |

Yes, that's a fail. But at least you rolled :)
@Everyone - don't be afriad to experiment and try things out. If you rll badly, well that adds to the story as well. This is Doskvol, nothing goes to plan - but you're Scoundrels, you'll cope.
So let's see, that was a fail at Risky so you go back to Desperate and I'm adding another tick to the Alert clock, whichis now at 3/4 full. Things are lookind down for the Dusk Mites, what have they got in their pocketses er I mean up their sleeves?

Lolo Aeolo |

Ok, going to go with a flashback using Jonah's idea to set up a distraction/fight with some local kids. Lolo will then use that as an excuse to usher everyone inside.
sway: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Sarah the GM |

That could work - you were in the area earlier, anyway so this sounds like a zero stress flashback for you cos you already "paid" if you see what I mean.
That sounds like a good distraction, what do you want to achieve with it? I'm not sure it exactly works to get you thruough the doors, but maybe it could "unwind" the Alert clock? Let me know what effect you want.
as for consequences, you were seen in the area with a local gang and the Bluecoats are paying attention (this is a nice neighbourhood, did I mention that?). I'm adding a tick to the "Bluecoats on Alert" clock, it's now at 2/4.
I'll let you write up the post :)

Lolo Aeolo |

OK, done. I'm hoping that the ruckus - and the resultant threat of the Bluecoats coming, along with the fact that they've already drawn the Bluecoats' attention, is enough to convince Pauch that they need to move inside to clear things up.
If we get inside, Lolo can offer to run back to Herself and get something in writing. This would be a clue to the others that she's going to set up on a nearby rooftop to cover them if needed, and buy everyone else time to figure out what to do next.

Finraeth |

Hi all, just to let you know that Sarah's been in hospital: it's not Covid, she had an accident. The good news is she's OK; she's keen to get back to posting (genuine quote: "I'm bored out my f***ing skull here, tell me a story!") but struggling with pain management and other dull RL things.
So, if you're open to hanging around then this game will probably carry on after a slight delay.

Lolo Aeolo |

Oh no! Sarah, I'm glad you weren't (more seriously?) hurt, and I hope you're feeling better soon.
Thanks for the update, Finraeth. I'm open to hanging around and hope that this game can pick back up. I've enjoyed playing with y'all.

Finraeth |

I'm glad this (and you!) are back up and running...
Based on this new complication, I think the main thing is to stop the other guard from raising the alarm and then to see what the new arrivals are up to.
I'm going to have Finraeth use a Skirmish action on the guard, trying to take her down non-lethally with as little noise as possible (no guns). If this goes well she will be knocked out, leaving the rest of you free to face the new arrivals.
Skirmish: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
