"That was indeed one of the companies the hacker targeted," Idir adds, taking a sip of the tea. "Are you an employee or contractor for them? I'd assume something to that effect given the frankly beautiful greenery you've managed to raise in Absalom Station's relatively sterile environment. If you aren't working for them they'd probably be eager to hire you!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

SD DM |

"Probably not. I think I might be the hacker. I used to pull stunts like that, but haven't in many years. I have a brain disease. Cybernetic implants keep me functioning, but I still suffer large periods of lost memory. There are a few files I don't recognize stored in the implants."
She stands up, paces nervously three steps in each direction, the kitchen walls won't allow more.
"You said you could help. What have you got?"

![]() |

"As was mentioned, we're here on behalf of the Starfinder Society. Specifically, we're here at the request of the Dataphiles group who were very interested in the hack you pulled off. The hack you pulled off was quite impressive and the Society would love to have someone with your talents on board. It's possible someone there could help with your malfunctioning implants as well."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

![]() |

"Surprise and confusion!" Idir exclaims, his eyes widening atop their short stalks. "That sounds serious, Ms. Ceren. We'd be happy to bring you to speak with our superior, Historia-7. She was looking to meet with...whoever conducted such a frankly daring hack before Station security apprehended them. If anyone had information that could aid in treating your condition, it'd be her, and of course, she'd extend both you and Jubair the Society's protection from any forthcoming legal or financial entanglements. We, of course, will happily escort you to the Lorespire, whenever you are ready, but the sooner the better, no?"

![]() |

Thundergun's voice can be heared from outside
I could gather data from this chip. And maybe repear it, depends on malfunctioning. But I do not know what to expect from corporate interests.

SD DM |

Ceren thinks before speaking, "I remember how bad a hack can go wrong. I need some help. So here's the deal. If you want the data, and need me for a job, you're going to fake my death. It's the only thing that will get the corps off my trail for good. I'm going to go hide out with Jubair. Give me a comm code, I'll call you every couple hours to see how you're making out. When you're ready I'll tell you where to meet. "

![]() |

Tenry, whom is an accomplished doctor in his own mind, considers the possibilities. Too fake her death, they will need a corpse. They could use hers, and bring her back, but she might not go for that. They could burn the house to cinders, but that could risk substantial collateral damage. She could just disappear. But they would still look for her… the possibilities… he loses himself in these thoughts and gains a blank expression.

![]() |

"Surprise and horror!" Idir exclaims. "Are you certain there's no other way?! True, the Society's resources are stretched a bit thin, but their legal team is largely intact, and I have utmost faith in their ability to shield you from Station security and lawsuits!"
Just showing some of Idir's naivete here.

![]() |

so, she is not so easy and naive. Interesting hacker.
Thundergun returns to infostructure after searching for proper dociments form. Maybe that's fine to use such knowledge and wireframes to make Ceren and her boy a proper documents with other names.
Technomancer will also check how medical and death protocols could be altered if such manipulation become necessary. Teeth, DNA, medicine history and so on...

![]() |

"So to fake a death we would, One, need a body. Two, get in to the computers to move your ID to the corpse that we are using. And Three, do it all without anyone knowing about it. So for the body, we could go to the morgue and find someone with out ID and swap your's and their ID's. I offer this choice for your consideration." Nic Nack offer up to the group.

SD DM |

Seems like you're accepting her terms. Nic nack laid out your tasks pretty succinctly. From the scenario: "To successfully fake Ceren’s death, the PCs need to manipulate data to convince the station systems that Ceren is dead. They also need to provide a new identity for Ceren to take over. "
Mechanically you're looking at a series of skill checks. Couching them in good RP or description may win you bonuses on rolls.
Once someone gives her a comm code, Ceren moves to the bedroom where she and Jubair begin hurriedly packing small bags with their most valuable things.

- Let's burn this place.
Kuozar puffs angrily at his cigar. His eyes sparkle with passion.
- We'll mix up some combustible materials and burn this place to the ground. It would be much better to pass her off as a dead woman. Not even a body was left in the fire. So we won't have to fake the morgue reports - just the fire department's inspection report. It's simple.
Kuozar begins to walk around the apartment and look at all the available oils, cleaning products, and so on, collecting them in one bucket.
Engineering to 'properly arm and disarm explosives' (c): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

"Yes, a new position. I agree with Tenry that with your talents, I imagine the Dataphiles would love to take you on. I mean that was quite the hack you pulled off."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
"Now, about the body.. Can anyone hack into the mortuary computer systems and re-ID one of the bodies to match Mrs. Ceren? If not, I guess a trip to the mortuary would be in order."

![]() |

Idir gives out a low moan at Kuozar's suggestion.
"Please let us not add arson, property damage and reckless endangerment of a minor to the list of charges we're dealing with here!"

![]() |

Thundergun makes a request to base and a morgue maybe as Nic-nack suggested. He sures that Starfinders are heavily armed usually and its not seldom to leave a trail of dead bodies. Almost every mission cause casulties. So maybe the guild could provide similar bodies / corpses quickly. Elder female and yonger male humans - are proper option in general. Thundergun sends request with some detailes he is able to gather and understand.
Life Science: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
The technomancer also continues to look through infostructure to find opportunity to alter or make false persona as Tenry said.
Computers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Xikko, I'll try. , - says Thundergun into window from outside.

SD DM |

Tenry and Xikko continue to chat up Ceren and seal the deal. When it's apparent she's committed meeting Historia, provided you can fake the death and provide a new identity of course, Xikko turns to the problems in implementation.
Meanwhile Kuozar explores a direct approach while nick nac and Idir counsel against it.
Thundergun traces a few potential corpses through his Starfinder contacts. He realizes that they may need alteration to adequately match Ceren. The izaalgunn's attempts to research new identity creation are less fruitful, although there might a be a way, if...
I'm assuming Xikko's last check was against Ceren to get her on board. She is.
I'll rule on Kuozar's engineering roll if you all adopt that plan. I can guarantee his roll is good enough to start a fire.
You can get a body or two. See the discussion thread for some hints from the book on disguise. Thundergun's computers check isn't good enough to secure a new identity, but would be good enough to aid someone else.

![]() |

"Ok, so we need a backstory for you. Your new persona needs to fit the Dataphiles mold so as not to raise suspicion. We don't want anyone to question why you were hired. So we'll need some past employment, probably need some classes from the Arcanamirium......
Xikkos voice trails off as he begins to devise a new life.
Culture: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

"Much as it sickens me to suggest it, I can falsify the paperwork for Ms. Ceren's hypothetical passing. Given the distressingly above-average percentage of Starfinders who get in over their heads on missions, even prior to recent events, I've had to fill out those kinds of forms on the Society's behalf quite a few times," Idir says.
He pulls up the infosphere on his comm unit and begins filling out the relevant digital forms.
Computers: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (6) = 15
"Hmm...no...not quite convincing enough. Mr. Thundergun? Could I prevail on your technical expertise, please?
A successful Aid Another ought to get us over the DC in the Discussion thread.

![]() |

Mr.? Is is sort of status? I prefer to be named by name without unproper additions. At least until I become chief Thundergun. Anyway, here what I found. Use it.
Anyway we get result of 17 which is still not enough mechnically.
Maybe Kuozar will come with some additions to complete proper new identity...

![]() |

Yes it is, the DC for faking the death certificate is 16.
"Well...it's a general term of respect that applies to any who identify as male. I was only trying to be polite."

SD DM |

Even working together, Thundergun and Idir have trouble hacking into Absalom Station's identity files to alter Ceren's identifying bio-characteristics file to more closely match the corpse in the Starfinder morgue.
Body procured. After re-reading the scenario rules, I don't think aid another is appropriate. Certification of death is still a problem.
Xikko lays out a plan of attack for creating Ceren's new identity, personal, professional, and educational details that will be needed to round out her new bona fides.
One of three checks needed to establish new identity completed.
Let's look at a new round of actions.

Just trying to wrap my head around where we're at:
Does that all sound right?

SD DM |

Just trying to wrap my head around where we're at:
Body - Procured
Certificate of Death - Failed Computers Check. So what's left? Do we need to find a shady mortician now to complete the records?
We need 2 more people to make Dimplomacy, Culture or Bluff checks to complete the new identity.
Does that all sound right?
Lots of potions:
Death certificate:
- Computers are still an option
- Disguise or Medicine check to alter the corpse to match Ceren’s records;
- PCs can also use a DC 15 Bluff check to convince the morticians they are grieving relatives and falsely identify an unclaimed body as Ceren’s;
- PCs can simply bribe a mortician to file a fake death report for 100 credits;
- A PC who happens to have Profession ranks in a funerary, medical, or security field can file a false report on her own with a successful DC 12 Profession check.
New Identity: Ceren needs a new identity if she wants to survive her false death.
- PCs can help set up a solid new alias for Ceren with a successful DC 15 Bluff, Culture, or Disguise check.
- Diplomacy check to provide Ceren with allies and contacts in her new life;
- Profession check in any field can pull strings to get Ceren a new job, though she refuses degrading or dangerous employment.
- PCs with the Computers skill can attempt a DC 18 check to forge Ceren different identification papers.

I think take 10 is ususlly an option. ANd I'd love to for the sake of smooth narration? So, I'd do this for Computers now (total result is 20) and often in general...
If there is no haste, Thundergun use more time to finalize death certificate after familirizing with provided body's parameters. He sees documents as redundant thing. But in a burecracy world with high order adn law.... well, he will get over this.
After finishing proper death certificate izalguun will make another documents - new identity. He looks inside the house couple of times and ask Ceren questions such as...
Officially you will become an IT engeneer on a longer vacation due to helth troubles. With name Vrena Largus. Agree? As for the boy - he will become Osh, your nephew. I will continue if you won't come with edits.

Btw Thundergun point makes a lot of sense.

"So apparently, they didn't believe me when I told them that the humanoid body they have was actually related to me."
Did someone try a Medicine check to alter the corpse?

![]() |

Due to lack of medic in our group I just asked for a proper already-dead bodies which might be similar to these still-alive humans. Expecting them to be delivered. Than we may burn this place as Kuozar suggested. This will cover some missleads. But maybe I profiled everything right and it is not necessary.

"I'll give it a try," Idir replies to Xikko-Gimry. "Obviously I can't pass myself off as a relative, but a legal representative? Acting as an executor for her will in touch with her next-of-kin looking to confirm her passing? THAT I can do."
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

SD DM |

Got a hot free second. I'll still get you another post later.
It seems Thundergun is born for this. While the others work on their tasks and ideas, the izalguun finally breaches station security to massage Ceren's ID files, completes Seren's new life documentation, and alters the corpse (delivered by head-shaking dataphiles) slightly to match Ceren's description more closely.
Kuozar and Xikko unsuccessfully engage a funeral home to take the body and register a death certificate. Idir steps in, acting as Ceren's family lawyer, and convinces the sceptical funeral home to accept the body.
Ceren pronounces herself satisfied with your preparations. You may escort her to Historia 7.

![]() |

"Happy days and jubiliation!" Idir comments once the preparations are finished. "I imagine our time is short now. Let's bring the 'late' Ms. Ceren to the Lorespire before the local AbStatSec gets wind of the unusual goings on in the neighborhood."

SD DM |

You vacate the premises. The trip back to Lorespire goes smoothly. Ceren tells Jubair about the possiblity of a better new life, and thanks you for your help. Crossing the green wooded space of Jetembe Park, mere blocks from headquarters, Jubair breaks away to run onto a bridge. A suddenly spry Ceren trots after him, and they look down into the water. She steps away from the rail and looks back, waiting for you.
From the far side of the bridge, three men begin to cross. When the first steps unto the bridge the move with direct purpose. They are garbed in flightsuits, batons, and cheap 'casters at their hip. Two have dark glasses obscuring their eyes, and the third looks weary. The closest man reaches out to grab Ceren's arm.
Please arrange your selves anywhere on the right side of the bridge. Slide 2. Anyone who beats their initiative may act.

No link-access. I requested one via email, but maybe more convenient would be to negate restriction and give edit access because we need to upload and move tokens somehow...

The man at Ceren's elbow addresses the approaching izalguun in a slow quiet voice. "Please stay out of this. This woman is a dangerous hacker. What she's done just isn't right, and we're taking her in."
Thundergun's shove catches him offguard, but the man is only pushed against the railing of the bridge. He reaches for his baton. His two companions begin to draw their pulsecasters.
The nuar, Kuozar, tries a much more direct, and lethal, approach. His laser lances into the lead thug. The man screams with pain.
