@GM -- Looks like Atay/Atae(?) may have dropped out. If so, might I be able to take her place? I'm the same level 1 as she is, so no change to Challenge Points. :) I'll include my info here. But if Atay plays or if you already had another on the WaitList, I of course understand.

When you have a moment, can each of you fill out this sheet so it will be easier for me to roll initiative and make secret checks.

![]() |

Thanks for letting me in. Filled out your google docs sheet. Will make a proper 1st post into Gameplay this evening (swamped at work today, but will normally check the boards several times a day ... sorry for the delay, and thanks again!)

So gang what are we thinking in terms of items. I've got a tiny list built up of things that Jei needs to buy for himself(he's gonna give Reeta back her furs).
Comealong
Compass(for jei)
puptent(for jei)
Lots of rope
Climbing kit
Lots of food
Winter clothes(for Jei)
Bedroll
And maybe oil to make lighting stuff easy. Oh and animal fat incase we need to risk diving into water, acts as a great barrier for the less clothed.

![]() |

Good idea about organizing items. I agree we should all get Winter Clothes (Apollo already has some from Bounty #1). Climbing Kit definitely sounds useful. If we all have an Adventurer's Pack (cost 1.5 gp), we're probably good with rope, bedroll, rations, and the basics.
A fire-breathing kobold. Nice! Apollo is a Flames Oracle. He has the Produce Flame cantrip, so he can help Jei start fires. BTW, he'll typically cast Incendiary Aura within range of enemies. If they catch fire, they suffer persistent fire damage.

Silence the Owl |

Meadow shrugs.
"To be totally fair he can be very quiet when he wants to even when flying. Owls have special feathers that let them fly silently,"
Fun Owl Fact: Owls are known as silent predators of the night, capable of flying just inches from their prey without being detected. The quietness of their flight is owed to their specialized feathers. When air rushes over an ordinary wing, it typically creates a “gushing” noise as large areas of air turbulence build up. But the owl has a few ways to alter this turbulence and reduce its noise.
First, the leading edge of the owl’s wing has feathers covered in small structures that project out from the wing. One hypothesis is that these serrations break up the flowing air into smaller flows that are more stable along the wing. Furthermore, this change in airflow patterns also appears to reduce the noise of the flowing air. The wing’s serrated leading edge appears to be most effective at reducing noise when the wing is at a steep angle—which would happen when the owl is close to its prey and coming in for a strike.
These smaller airflows then roll along the owl’s wing toward the trailing edge, which is comprised of a flexible fringe. This fringe breaks up the air further as it flows off the trailing edge, resulting in a large reduction in aerodynamic noise. Then, any remaining noise that would be detectable by the owl’s prey is absorbed by velvety down feathers on the owl’s wings and legs. These soft feathers absorb high frequency sounds that most prey, as well as humans, are sensitive to. All together, these feather features enable owls to remain undetected when they fly.

There are six of us, so we'll need 3 pup tents. Nal already has one. Looks like Jei plans to grab another. Who's carrying the third?

![]() |

The VC said that each day we race to a checkpoint. Do we know if the officials provide camping gear at these checkpoints, or are we on our own?
As far as carrying extra gear, Apollo tries to flex his halfling oracle arms, but all you see is swinging flab. He votes for someone else to do any heavy lifting.

Seven of us. Silence is as big as a halfling. Meadow is purchasing her own tent for her and Silence. I'm sure it will be useful later in her career.

Looking back I noticed Apollo and Jei'Balt making intimidation checks in their social interactions with the other teams. Should I have made some sort of check too? I usually don't make checks unless the GM asks unless it's super obvious that a check is necessary.

![]() |

Oh, I just did it for fun. Since Apollo was glaring back, I just figured what the heck. If it was a bad roll, the GM could have had some fun with it. Either way, it was just for a little flavor, if the GM wanted to include it.

![]() |

Yeah naw, I also did it mainly to just see how intimidating jei would be. He will go off like a rabid attack chihuahua if people insult his size. I didn't expect any mechanical effect from it except maybe to show the others we can't mince words as well.

![]() |

So before I post in gameplay I'll check first. I've had GMs severely limit animal companions and some that were more permissive since the rules are pretty open in PF2. If I command Silence to 'fetch' the egg will that be allowed?
I have posts in mind either way and I'll post once I know which will be most appropriate.

![]() |

Let's look at the rules:
Animal Companion
You gain the service of a young animal companion that travels with you on your adventures and obeys any simple commands you give it to the best of its abilities. See Animal Companions for more information.
Animal Companions
An animal companion is a loyal comrade who follows your orders. Your animal companion has the minion trait, and it gains 2 actions during your turn if you use the Command an Animal action to command it; this is in place of the usual effects of Command an Animal, and you don’t need to attempt a Nature check.
Command an animal
Most animals know the Drop Prone, Leap, Seek, Stand, Stride, and Strike basic actions. If an animal knows an activity, such as a horse's Gallop, you can Command the Animal to perform the activity, but you must spend as many actions on Command an Animal as the activity's number of actions.
Issuing commands to an animal doesn’t always go smoothly. An animal is an independent creature with limited intelligence. Most animals understand only the simplest instructions, so you might be able to instruct your animal to move to a certain square but not dictate a specific path to get there, or command it to attack a certain creature but not to make its attack nonlethal. The GM decides the specifics of the action your animal uses.
So here is my opinion.
In this case since the owl doesn't specifically have the grab ability and interact or grapple isn't one of the basic actions most animals are familiar with performing. It does use its talons to pick up prey when hunting, but isn't really careful about not hurting it. The attempt would be resolved as a strike and the 1d4+2 damage is going to be more than enough to crush the egg, which is against the rules.

Oh I should point out that Meadow has the boon from quest #3 Grehunde's Gorget. It's supposed to have some sort of benefit in this scenario. Sorry about the late notice. Feel free to ignore it if it will cause a disruption at this point.

![]() |

Huh. I have that one, too. Totally forgot to check my boons. I'm too used to them not applying.

![]() |

@GM Mike Hallet: Regarding the sabotage of our gear: is this just the scenario gear, or does this apply to the gear we purchased with our own money? How damaged is it, exactly (salvageable or destroyed)?
And while we're on that note...
Whoa. The unwanted newcomers are in the lead? That makes things...extra dangerous. "All right guys, we gotta watch our backs now. There are all sorts of ways for the other contestants to harm with us that aren't against the rules. Everyone use the buddy system, and don't leave any of your stuff unattended."
Since Nal was already expecting trouble, I would think she would've followed her own advice and urged everyone else to as well. I realize this setback is probably part of the game as written, but to what extent could Nal's stubbornness on this affect how much (and which) stuff was sabotaged?
I'm not trying to be a nitpicker; I just want to understand the scope of the situation.

![]() |

Scenario gear. The scenario assumes that not everyone is kitted out for several days in harsh tundra. So it is assumed you have extra gear you would not normally be carrying as part of a pack that you would carry and drop off at each checkpoint for inspection.
One of the sabotages is [redacted] bribes an official to mess with your gear or hold up your inspection. A check (which you succeeded) is needed to prevent a delay.

Out of curiosity, which check did we make that succeeded? Maybe not important, but it would be nice to know what's working. Was it the Diplo checks by Jei and Apollo? (Since Apollo's been so useless at the challenges, maybe his communication skills have been useful.)
Also, Apollo has asked a couple direct questions that haven't been answered. He asked if these officials are Brand and Freya. Sounds like they are. So no worries there. But to be clear, he's interested in finding out more about this fake/bribed official (his name, etc.) or at least he'd be satisfied knowing Brand and Freya are taking the accusations seriously that one of their own is involved.

Good luck!

![]() |

Just repeat to yourself: Sleep is overrated. Sleep is overrated. :) As Nal said, good luck!

Everyone starts with 1. GM glyphs let you give out extras to other players. The GM can award them during play. You can have a maximum of 3 at one time.
One hero point lets you reroll a d20 roll. (You can only use 1 on any given roll though). You have to take the second roll even if it is worse than the first. But you don't have to spend one until you know you've failed. So if you roll low, you can use one as a contingency and I will let you know if you needed to spend it.
If you would ever go to dying 4, you can spend all your hero points to stabilize instead.
