Hani Makoa |
Jin in entranced, perhaps even in love, with the "battlestaff multi-tool." He looks at you all bashfully. "Can I...uhhh...can I have it?
He'll follow Jin down the new hall, carefully exploring as he does.

Sure Hani, why not?
Zharis takes a look at the console

Jin Goei |
"It seems the creatures had free access to both floors through this gravel mound. But perhaps we killed all of them already."
Jin goes look inside the north tunnel:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Same roll
Xylian Xuuvats |
"It is a good thing we destroyed the fire worms before they could escape into the highway tunnels."
Zharis |
This is strange... this console is actually a holographic projector, looks like it is being used for target practice or something... and this stool is a toilet that burns waste to ash.
What a strange place.
Jin Goei |
Is there a passageway or something next to Hani on the southeast side of the room? The wall looks broken
Jin Goei |
Jin waits for the party to regroup around the likely trapped bottleneck of a tunnel and strides forward, looking for trouble:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Finally some improvement
Zharis |
Zharis gets ready behind Jin, holding both her pistol and her sword.
GM Jhaeman |
With Jin and Zharis in the lead, the science team make their way down the thoqqua-melted tunnel. About halfway down, there's a sudden flash of bright energy and then a loud alarm begins ringing! Voices and shouting can be heard just beyond where the tunnel opens up into a barracks where several ifrits and sulis are reaching for weapons!
A trap in the tunnel has been triggered, and I need everyone to roll a Reflex save.

Jin Goei |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
"Typical." Jin comments, as his armor fries up.
Zharis |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Cat-like, Zharis jumps out of the way of the trap and moves forward towards an opponent. Trying to fry them with a trap meant she could skip over the Diplomacy step, which was good because she was getting annoyed.
Hello,
she says as she begins to swing her sword,
we'd like the freaking DCI data back, and I sure hope you have it, because all of the runaround has been SUPER ANNOYING!
... Cabizo would be proud of me for expressing my feelings honestly like that, she thought.
Attack (Tactical Dueling Sword): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 (weapon specialization)
Probably a miss, but rolled damage just in case the opponent counts as flat-footed.
... Somehow the speech without a really good hit didn't make the kind of emphatic point she had been going for. She'd have to work on the entrance for next time.
GM Jhaeman |
Zharis's tumbling attack connects! The suli grunts in pain and almost growls in heavily-accented Common: "Fools! We knew you were coming. We saw you on the cameras! You're lucky Commander Jalusann wants one of you alive for questioning. But only one!" With that, she and her companion draw longswords and attack the pahtra!
Both attacks hit. Zharis, you take 6 S and 5 S.
longsword # 1 vs Zharis KAC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
longsword # 2 vs Zharis KAC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

"Get the polearm master--he's the real threat!" shouts one of the sulis. The ifrits comply, moving into position where they can fire a volley of lasers.
Three attacks on Jin; each is using their 1/day "fire affinity" special ability to roll twice and take the better.
All three hit, though funnily enough, all of their "fire affinity" rolls were lower than the first wave. Jin, you take 6 F, 2 F, and 8 F.
laser # 1 vs Jin EAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Jin Goei |
"Master? My instructor would be pleased to hear you say so, but it is hardly fitting of my skills." Jin talks down the criminals.
Once the first shot lands, Jin's last adaptive serum kicks in, granting him energy resistance 5 to fire - reducing the damage taken to 1, 0 and 3.
He then moves up to blue and starts his work:
Enforcement-class capture pole vs. Blue's KAC: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Piercing damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Very shoddy work, though
Hani Makoa |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Hani moves into the room, brandishing his new staff. "I get a new staff, and suddenly I'm a 'polearm master'?"
Hani obviously misunderstood the Suli.
He activates his energy shield and prepares for the onslaught to come.
Zharis |
This is my round 2 move... figured I would make it early since I am going to be out a lot this weekend. No enemies go before my move, so I think it is safe from having to be retconned.
Zharis looks at black in between swings.
That's Jalusann? Why am I hitting you when I could be hitting the PERSON WHO STARTED ALL OF THIS?!
She turns to yellow with a sinister hiss, taking a guarded step sideways to center herself in front of Jalusann, then swings with all of her power...
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
... she roars in triumph at actually being able to damage her true enemy.
Honestly, a poor tactical move, but she's an actress. She's going for the emotional impact. :)
Xylian Xuuvats |
"If you wished to overpower us, there were multiple locations within the building that would have been tactically superior to this one." Xylian informs the data thieves' in his usual disinterested tone, locking on to one of the aggressors from the relative safety of the tunnel. "Sending small groups against us, instead of working together, has not improved your chances."

GM Jhaeman |
Jin lives up to the fears of the defenders, as he drops one of the ifrits with a single squeeze of his capture pole! Xylian adds to the momentum by almost knocking down another defender with an icy projectile. Cabizo tries to help too, but almost drops his pistol because his fingers are mysteriously covered in paint.
The dice were with Jin, as he got *exactly* what he needed to hit and did *exactly* the damage needed to drop Blue. Xylian's attack hit and White is badly hurt. Cabizo's attack missed with a nat 1.
Cabizo's skipshot pistol (w/ coordinated shot) vs White: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Posted my round two action above. Sorry for skipping ahead.
GM Jhaeman |
Zharis' blade cuts deep into the other suli, who looks at her in confusion. "I'm not Jalusann, you furry freak! You won't meet her until you're in chains or in a body bag!" Together, the two sulis try to make their promises come true, but the nimble actor/envoy/swordmaster tumbles out of the way!
Meanwhile, the two remaining ifrits realise their rifles aren't of much use against Jin and shift to longswords as well.
At about the worst possible time, a comlink message comes in from Nib: "Hiya, folks, just checking in. Any luck finding that stolen data? Folks back here at the DCI are really gettin' anxious!"
Zharis' attack hit Yellow.
The two sulis attack Zharis with longswords, but both miss.
The two ifrits attack Jin with longswords. One hits. Jin, you take 5 S.

Though momentarily startled at the revelation that her conclusions were way off, Zharis is incensed at being mocked and called a furry freak.
And what race are you? Let's see... pale, mostly hairless, and stinky. Grimaldi fire worms?
Hani Makoa |
Hani wades into melee with the "Grimaldi fire works."
Attacking black. Zharis and I may have flanking vs. black.
Hani first brandishes his new staff, but then surprises the sulis with an uppercut to the jaw with his battleglove.

Doesn't red need to move to hit Jin? Fishing for an AoO
Jin decides to focus on the more fresh looking red ifrit this turn:
Enforcement-class capture pole vs. Red's KAC: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Piercing damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
GM Jhaeman |
Hani wades into the battle, but hasn't quite figured out his new configurable battlestaff, as a socket wrench pops out and gets in the way of his attack!
But Jin whirls around and slams his capture pole into the side of another defender, knocking him across the room.
Cabizo comes into the room. "Some posters would really liven this place up. Did you know colour is tied to mood?" The projectile from his skipshot pistol reappears right in front of the last ifrit and knocks him out cold!
Hani missed. Jin takes out Red. (Yes, Red would have had to move to attack last round (my bad), but would have done a guarded step while drawing the longsword so there wouldn't have been an AoO).
Cabizo attacks White, and takes him out.
Xylian is up.

Jin goes around and stops in front of Cabizo, so he can threaten both sulis and not obstruct ranged attacks.
He attacks black:

Piercing damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

An expression of utter horror appears on the face of one of the sulis when she sees what Jin's capture pole has done to her fellow soldier. It comes as something of a mercy when Hani knocks her out cold.
Jin's crit would have killed about three of those sulis! And Hani's attack is enough to drop Yellow. We are off Initiative.

Jin will try to take a short rest before they breach the last room, to recover stamina and his frenzied fighting bonus.
Jin could finally use a break - his serum did its work

Jin catches his breath after the furious fighting, but with his armor's environmental protections fried, the heat down here starts to get to him.
Meanwhile, Zharis looks around for anything of interest. She assembles a pile of gear from the dead and unconscious Brass Dragons, and then proceeds to empty out several footlockers. One of the things she finds is a sunblossom!

The serum runs out with the stamina break, and it didn't protect against environment hazards, unfortunately
Jin draws his singing disk in preparation for the last battle. He examines the door for traps while the loot is collected:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
GM Jhaeman |
The camera on the wall swivels to follow Jin as the kanabo takes a look at the southern steel door. It features a prominent physical lock.
If anyone else wants to spend RP to get back stamina, now's the time as you get 10 minutes of uninterrupted rest.
Zharis |
Zharis sorts out all the loot and carried a load back to their new car since Cabizo is having a hard time juggling it all.
When she gets back, she notices the camera on the wall, and uses it for target practice.

She reloads and starts again...
Kill Camera: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
But she stops when Cabizo tells her that it doesn't seem like a very "restful" activity and that Jin is trying to rest.
Or, if it is low enough to reach with her sword, she just bashes it (same rolls, but with +2 damage)
Was beginning to feel like a stormtrooper there, but hopefully that took it out? If not, I can shoot it more.
When the camera is out, she sits quietly, waiting for Jin to be ready and for her chance to face Jalusann.
