Hani snatches the sunblossom from Zharis and clutches for a moment before returning to work. He starts to look at Jin's suit, but seems distracted. Xylian is seems to be able to handle the problem.

Zharis shoots the camera to smithereens! Meanwhile, Xylian manages to replace the fried circuits in Jin's armor, and soon its built-in air conditioners are running at full power.

@Zharis: By my calculations, it takes you five rounds of ammo to destroy the camera (it has a surprising amount of hardness).

Thanks. That changes Zharis to currently 4/9 rounds in her pistol.

Zharis again lines up behind Jin at the door with both her sword and pistol ready.


Jin tries the door and finds, to his surprise, that it's not actually locked. When he opens it up and steps inside, he sees the floor in front of him is covered in grease!

Beyond that is a massive chamber wallpapered with maps, photographs, and scraps of local publications. b A massive bank of view screens mounted on the east wall and a heavy curtain showing the Brass Dragons symbol hang on the west wall.

An island of computer stations and desks separates the room into a clear operational space.

Suddenly, two figures--both ifrits--pop out of hiding behind the computers, and one of them hurls a grenade!

Because of the way the room is configured, only Jin has line of sight and a chance to spot these hiding figures. But his Perception check failed, so they get a surprise round on their own. Blue casts a spell on the Yellow, and Yellow tosses a cryo grenade.

Jin and Zharis, you're caught in the blast radius and each take 1 point of Cold damage. In addition, please roll a DC 14 Reflex save or be staggered for 1 round.

No doubt the speaker is Commander Jalusann, the figure on the cover to this chapter of the AP.

"Don't worry boss, I've got your flank covered!" shouts the ifrit spellcaster who wears a jumpsuit dangling with attachments. She steps back from Hani, utters some mystical words, and sprays more grease from her fingertips!

Blue does a guarded step and casts grease on the 2x2 area where Hani is standing. Hani, please roll a DC 16 Reflex save to avoid falling prone.

Hani will use his step up feat when the ifrit uses guarded step. This allows Hani to use his reaction to make his own guarded step. Since this uses his reaction, he won't be able to also do an attack of opportunity.

Zharis carefully steps onto the grease to attempt to move into the room to get a better shot.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Unfortunately, her actual-cat reflexes fail her utterly as she flails, trying to keep her balance, and she ends up flat on the floor, her whiskers in the grease. She is decidedly unhappy about this, and uses her remaining energy to crawl free of the grease.

Double-move to get where she is. I don't think she has enough movement to then stand up, since I think it was one movement to step and fall, then another movement to crawl... but I'm not sure if there is technically any movement left from that first step or not.


Hani and Zharis slip and fall in the grease, but Jin makes it into the room, numb from the cryo-grenade.

Hani fails the save and lands prone. Zharis, my understanding is that your first move action terminates once you fail the check and land prone. You can then use your second move action to crawl five feet. I've moved your token to where you should be.

Xylian is up.

Ah, thanks. I didn't realize that crawling was restricted to 5 feet only in Starfinder. Eventually I am going to know these rules well, but the time is not yet. :)

Xylian slips in the grease but still gets a shot off--but Jalusann ducks behind the console just in time!

Xylian falls prone, but can still attack--it would have hit, but Jalusann has cover from the consoles.


"Your poor breaching tactics will be your downfall!" shouts Jalusann. She rushes to the wall, fires a stream of plasma from her rifle, and then darts back toward the safety of the consoles.

Jalusann is using Spring Attack to move to the wall, fire a line weapon, and then move most of the way back to where she started. She is going to use her 1/day "fire affinity" to make the attack roll twice. Hani, her movement will provoke an AoO from you, but you'll have a -4 on the attack roll because you're prone.

The line attack hits Jin, Zharis, and Xylian--you each take 14 E&F.

Hani gets to his feet and makes it out of the patch of grease. Cabizo races into the room and slides through the grease like an ice skater, swerving to a perfect stop! The battle against the leader of the Brass Dragons is well and truly joined!

Botting Hani as doing a move action to stand up and then a guarded step to get out of the grease. Botting Cabizo as doing a double move to get into the room.

Cabizo's Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19


"Boss, I'm trapped!" shouts the grease-conjuring ifrit. She dances back away from Hani, draws a crackling whip from her belt, and snaps it in the telia's direction!

This ifrit does a guarded step and attacks with a red star plasma lash, using her 1/day fire affinity to roll twice and take the better.

The attack hits. Hani, you take 4 E&F.

Xylian stays where he is on the floor, his armors built in shields absorbing most of the retaliatory attack. He fires on the hostile but doesn't have much of shot whilst prone.

Jalusann takes a hand off her rifle to reveal a gauntlet fitted with a solar brand--an arrow-shaped field of plasma! A disciplined martial artist, she chops the weapon down toward Jin's neck before back up behind the consoles.

One attack against Jin, then a guarded step.

Then he approaches and slams his supercharged singing disk at Jalusann:

Not too bad - but attacking every round would've probably turned out a similar amount of damage. Probably save this for flying enemies in the future

Zharis growls, not liking the feeling of grease all over her, but she is angry enough to put off grooming.

She moves to Jalusann, setting up a flank with Hani, and swings her sword.

Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Arrgh. That was supposed to be WAY more triumphant.

Unfortunately, her discomfort and annoyance threw off her aim. "Never let your emotion interfere with your duty" she reminded herself... a good lesson from her parents... and tried a breathing exercise to calm down. Grease would come off. She was going to be okay. It felt horrible, but she wasn't on camera, and things would be fine... right after she KILLED THIS IDIOTIC GANG FREAK WHO HAD UTTERLY RUINED HER DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

... Okay, that wasn't working very well. She took in another breath to try again.

Xylian gets to his slippery feet, nearly falling and sending a shard of ice into the side of the console. He himself might be an easy target in his unsteady state, but the focus of the gang members is on his allies.

A haunting melody fills the as Jin's singing disk flies across the room and crunches hard into Jalusann's chest! Still, the Commander of the Brass Dragons has the wherewithal to dodge Zharis' and Xylian's attempts to seize the opportunity.

Jin's attack hit and did full damage, but Zharis and Xylian missed.


"You think your motley band can defeat me? Fools! You have no idea who you're dealing with!" Jalusann does a force-powered uppercut to Zharis' stomach and then steps away to put her back against a console.

Zharis gets hit and takes 13 E&F.

Pulling a custom datapad from her belt, the subordinate ifrit utters some mystical words. The datapad glows, seemingly powering more magic as yet more grease suddenly appears!
