Zharis |
With Jalusann up on the console, she makes a much easier target, so Zharis feels like she can step back a little. As she does, she sheathes her sword so that she will have a hand free to grab a serum of healing, since she just remembered that she got some of that on the advice of Jin.
Then she shoots at Jalusann again...

Xylian Xuuvats |
Xylian mimics Zharis' success against the ringleader, his feet nearly going out from under him on the greasy floor. His carbine pings, warning him of its low charge level and he thumbs the battery release, loading a fresh high capacity battery.

With perfect synchronicity, the two ifrits unleash the heat energies they've accumulated throughout the day into gouts of flame that wash over Hani!
Charrel and Jalusann (with her readied action) are each using their 1/day racial overheat spell-like ability.
Jin and Hani, you each get an attack of opportunity, but success or failure won't affect the spell going off (unless you drop the opponent).
Hani, you take 13 F (DC 15 Reflex for half) from Jalusann and 7 F (DC 16 Reflex for half) from Charrel).

Fresh battery loaded, Xylian manages to thread the needle through Jin's flurry of blows and hit his target.

Jin's capture pole catches Jalusann's leg, but an electrostatic field discharges energy down the shaft, shocking him! And with her subordinate shielding her, Jalusann manages to evade Zharis' and Xylian's attacks.
Jin's first attack hit Jalusann, but she has a mk 1 electrostatic field that does 4 E to him.
Zharis and Xylian each miss solely because of the soft cover provided by Charrel.
You've got Jalusann down to almost a third of her starting hp, but this could be close!

How does Jalusann have soft cover standing on the counter? I am certain there is a straight line from me to her. Sorry... not getting it. Does cover work differently in Starfinder?
GM Jhaeman |
Another volley of shots from Zharis and Xylian slam into Jalusann, nearly knocking her off the console. Hani tries to capitalise on the distraction, but can't quite manage it. With her furry legs, Cabizo clambers atop another console and opens fire again, but still can't penetrate Jalusann's armor.
Ok, I've added in the damage from Zharis' and Xylian's attacks. Hani's and Cabizo's attack missed.

Seeing that her pistol was out of ammo, she dropped it, preparing to draw another.
GM Jhaeman |
Jalusann's strategic error becomes clear, as her subordinate is devastated by Jin's capture pole and collapses to the ground, bleeding!
Jin's AoO and second regular attack hit Charrel and took her out. That's a fast turnaround!
@Zharis: Before I resolve your turn, I notice you've done two standard actions (drink a serum and make an attack)--do you have a special feature allowing both? If not, which action do you want to go with this round?
Xylian is up.

Ah, sorry... wasn't thinking... guess I was trying to shrink my potion-drinking into a move action. Darn. I want to attack, not drink the serum. I'll take my hit points back down to 8. But that leaves me with a move action then, so I'll draw my other pistol now.

Hani lands a perfect uppercut, sending Jalusann flying! She lands hard and speaks anguished words in a guttural tongue.
"How could I have been bested by such incompetents! General Khaim, forgive me!"
Suddenly, the brass collar around her neck flares with red light. A soft "pooft" sound marks her brain exploding instants before nanobots completely dissolve her flesh.
You did it! We are off Initiative.
Jin Goei |
"Good work."
Jin takes a 10 minutes break then goes check the last unexplored area:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Zharis |
Is Charrel dead, or just bleeding? If she's still alive, I'll cast stabilize on her (from a spell gem).
Zharis picks up her dropped pistol and reloads it, then searches the ash pile and the room, trying to find the controller for the death necklaces, and of course anything else of worth.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
She also checks the computers for the stolen data.
Computers: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 8 + (6) = 26
If Charrel is alive, she also might be able to help with answering some questions.
GM Jhaeman |
Jin catches his breath and then explores the rest of the chamber. Secluded behind a heavy curtain are small but comfortable quarters, complete with a bed, footlocker, and portable toilet. There's also a rough desk holding an assortment of books.
Meanwhile, in the main room, Zharis makes sure Charrel is stable and searches the fallen Brass Dragons and tries to access the computer consoles.
Zharis |
After searching Charrel, Zharis puts manacles on her so she can't attack them again.
After she gathers up the stuff, Zharis pockets one extra battery, and also takes Jalusann's armor, cleans it with a token spell, and changes into it.
(Her Regimental Dress I can go into party loot instead. It has a thermal regulator upgrade as well.)
Here's the rest of the stuff:
clearweave I
electrocelluar plasma claw with 1 battery (20 charges)
red star plasma lash with 1 battery (15 charges)
datapad (Charrel's)
red star plasma rifle with 2 high-capacity batteries (40 charges each)
yellow star solar brand with 1 high-capacity battery (20 charges)
cryo grenade I (x1)
brass collar
Gold circlet
Yellow vial
Cloudy vial
holographic sashimono (Brass Dragons insignia)
gold hoop earrings (x4, worth 25 credits each)
credstick (600 credits)
keys
I wonder if these are the car keys. she says, tossing the keys to Xylian.
I don't see the controller for the collars here, and, frustratingly, I can't find what we need on the computers... can someone else take a look and see if I am missing it?
Jin, did you find anything that looks like it controls the collars in there? Or wait...
She has another thought and then also throws the brass collar over to Xylian.
See if one of those keys opens up the collars. I thought it was some sort of wireless thing they could trigger, but maybe... it is just a key? Worth a try anyway.
Zharis will take a ten minute rest while other people try to figure out the computer stuff. It had to be there! Hopefully she just wasn't skilled enough to find it.
Credited the 10 minute rest in my tagline already, but let me know if something happens before I can complete it and I will retcon. :)

Looks like we destroyed everyone - Jin will take 20 to search the boss area

When the other one wakes up, maybe we can get her to tell us where the data is. I'll try to sweet talk her into it, and if that doesn't work, then you can be bad cop, Jin... are you good at intimidating people?

"Torture is a matter left to the military of the Gideron Authority. I work in the security industry, but as a private contractor - that has the sort of freedom that allowed me to join this scientific endeavor." Jin explains. "I do not have the necessary training. But dealing with criminals is a common practice in my field. We can threaten, negotiate, and if outside of a civilized society, bribe them. Personally, I would prefer to lock any survivors in the cursed pool chamber we found above - I do not doubt they have done the same with their enemies and victims."
Jin has a +0 on all charisma skills

Hani takes a look at the computers while Jin searches the chambers for anything hidden.
Charrel is going to need some healing if she's going to be awakened.
Jin Goei |
Jin examines the out of place trinket for hidden compartments or the like.
Zharis |
Zharis asks Cabizo if he still has a healing spell he can use, to bring the woman to consciousness.
If not, she will use a healing serum on her.
We can go with the previous roll for that if it is needed... if so, does 5 HP wake her up?
GM Jhaeman |
Cabizo replies, "Good idea! Physical rehabilitation and criminal rehabilitation go hand in hand--in hand in hand in hand in hand."
It takes a solid ten minutes, but then Charrel suddenly regains consciousness. She looks around and groans. "Oh . . . it's you. I can't believe we lost. Jalusann never loses!"

Of course this is very unlike Hani, but he is weary and ready to find a nice meal of fish and greens and then end up in a warm bed.

Zharis is happy that Hani is playing into the "good cop/bad cop" idea. She smiles at Charrel and says
Oh, I'm glad you are okay. It was touch and go there for a bit. I stabilized you, but was worried when you weren't waking up. Don't mind Hani. We're all a little frustrated with how this job has been going.
That's something you can help us with, actually, if you are willing. You aren't wearing one of those death collars, so I'm hoping you aren't quite as fanatical as some of the others we've run into. We just came to retrieve the data that was stolen from the DCI, and we could use your help in doing that.
If you help us retrieve it, I'd be happy to let you walk before the cops come. But you understand, we need that data back. No data, no going free. Do you think we can work together with that understanding?
