I am undecided about the utility wild talent - I can either take one that can create cover (flimsy cover with 5 HP that blocks line of sight), or take a familiar that can later become Improved Familiar and boost Torra's attack and damage. Thoughts?
Aganhei GM |
Hm... I will say this of the AP - both will be useful, especially since the party's ranged options are relatively limited - with Teruko and Torra being the primary ranged folks. Generating cover can be quite handy.
That said, familiars are cool. xD
Torra Voliokerdam |
I will take kinetic cover for now, because I want to RP finding and bonding with the familiar.

I'll reveal the rest of the loot tomorrow, and hopefully change your minds about going to Sandpoint!
On the other hand, there are, uh, other ways...

Teruko Kaijitsu |
Quick question: Is it actually a problem for us to return to Sandpoint and then come back to the marsh tomorrow? If there’s been a hint that we need to deal with the skeletons right now I’m afraid I missed it.
You’ve definitely gotten Teruko’s attention, and the potential threat of a skeleton army is good motivation too. But, (both IC and OOC), I think it would be smarter to take Arika back to Sandpoint, confer with Ameiko, and get a good night’s sleep before proceeding with the plot.
Aganhei GM |
No, there's no real good IC reason to keep going in the Marsh, other than to, well, y'know, not bog the game down by going back to Sandpoint (which is OOC, actually). If you guys want to do that, feel free - but keep in mind that if you heal up Cyrus, he can guard Arika (and possibly escort her back to Sandpoint), while you go investigate more deeply into the Marsh.
Torra Voliokerdam |
So, uh, I'm afraid that Cyrus will have to come with us. Forever. Sorry, GM, you just did too good of a job with these Battered Shields and I am now attached.
Torra is definitely good to continue into the marsh, she doesn't have expendable resources (other than HP), and is generally curious about exploring more.
Aganhei GM |
Well, I mean, he's been considering a change in career, given that he's nearly died four times in the past four days, three of which were today... xD
Also, wow you guys have been unlucky on Appraisals.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
Should we have regained all our spent resources, (spells, channels, etc.) when we leveled? Or will we get those next time we rest?
Aganhei GM |
I'll say that you got the hp immediately, but everything else you'll have to rest for - it's a reason to stick around, at least until tomorrow morning... but you can risk the Marsh as you like. You've probably mostly cleared it of threats, right?
I've also updated the terrain map with the new information you guys discovered from the fan-map.
Aganhei GM |
By the way, did anyone want to try to appraise Koras' locket? Or do you feel like trying to sell that would be a little crass? (It would be, but you know how greed kicks in for some people.)
EDIT: Also remember to add your claimed loot to your character sheets. It helps me keep track of stuff.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
I believe Hana still has the locket, but Teruko would not be willing to appraise it. Her vote would be to give it to Cyrus.
Speaking of votes, we need to decide if we're going back to Sandpoint or not. The majority of us in-game had said we wanted to go back, but our GM has since helpfully hinted that we'll be risking random encounters if we do. (Which could be very dangerous given that several of us are still wounded and we're completely out of resources.)
Given that information Torra has stated that she's willing to continue on, while Hana's latest in-game post indicates she'd rather go back. Teruko's position hasn't changed; I still think it makes more sense IC to go back to Sandpoint today and return to the marsh tomorrow.
Yuto and Seishin, what do you think?
Aganhei GM |
Not necessarily random monsters, but encounters, more or less, yes. There may be impediments on your way to the paths.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Yuto had more than enough and clearly leans towards going back to Sandpoint.
As a player though, I think the game will have a better pace by just resting very quickly to recover from the goblins super battle, then explore that cave. I am also interested to know about Old Megus and the second shipwreck.
I can easily push Yuto in your way by working with his loyalty to his friends and the skull omens he is starting to believe have been sent by Madame Mvashti.

Oof. Forgot I even had the locket. Thanks for the reminder. Guess I've given it to Cyrus since Koras's girlfriend is also dead, right?

Deus ex possession, in the interests of breaking the stalemate and allowing us to more on.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Well done!
Teruko Kaijitsu |
GM, I confess I'm a little confused. Your response to Yuto seemed to indicate you thought we'd be moving on today (in game time). But if we're not going back to Sandpoint then we have to stay at the goblin village for about 24 hours. Seishin and Teruko won't have their spells back until tomorrow morning. Unless I'm misunderstanding something?
Aganhei GM |
I have no preference - if you want to head back to Sandpoint or head onwards, you can take whatever time you need. I just wanted to remind you all that you do have a whole day to do things, if there's anything else you'd like to do.
Torra Voliokerdam |
Torra could take 20 to search every single room while the others rest, beyond that it may be too risky to leave the goblin village with a barely alive Cyrus and a wounded Yuto.

You do not need to cross a river to get to the Licktoad Village, no. But you may need to afterwards (even if you're going back to Sandpoint, whichwill annoy me as a GM butwould be fine.

(Bolding mine)
Perhaps I've been reading too much into your posts, but it seems pretty clear to me that you do have a preference.
Teruko will respond if anyone wants to talk to her, but otherwise I'm perfectly content to fast-forward until we have some healing available and can continue without risking a TPK from a particularly feral kitten.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Yeah, despite I read some conflicting statements I also felt you wanted for us to go straight into the rest of the Marsh without heading back to Sandpoint. I have no problem with that, thus I switched Yuto's will in that direction.
From Gameplay and Discussion I feel the overall agreement is we rest: aka we do not do adventuring until our spellcasters can have fun too going forward.
If you wish us to fill the day with what the party does during that time, I can throw some RP interactions between the party and a list of basic tasks Yuto does along the day.
But unless there is some special requirement on that regard, I think we are ready to call the day and move forward to the next adventure.

Oh, I do want you to stick in the marsh. I don't mind you going back as much as I did a few days ago, but I definitely prefer you staying. The reason I posted that was to make sure that everyone knew there'd be a day's time to stick around and twiddle your thumbs waiting to get all your spells back and such.
I think that if I level you up in the middle of an adventure like this next time, I'll give you all your spells... but it's a little late for that this time, so if everyone's good with moving on to the next day, I can do so!
Sorry for the confusion, and hopefully this post relays my thoughts clearly.
Aganhei GM |
So, from what Walthus' and the goblin maps show, you have one main way to get to Megus' house and the shipwreck nearby. That is to say, directly, as the bird flies. That'd take you directly through the rivers, which would need to be swum across, as well as through the island in between you and your goals...
But see the gameplay thread for more info.
Aganhei GM |
Seishin, are you still around? It's been three days.
Hirabashi Yuto |
GM, from the sound, can Yuto try to reproduce it or explain in such a way that someone with the required skills can attempt the K. nature and arcana checks?
I went ahead and posted a Swim/Climb check to keep things moving, but if there is anything invalidating this procedure or someone comes with a better idea, I have no problem with Yuto's actions being hold back.
Aganhei GM |
Well, reproducing it is basically out of the question - it isn't a noise that humanoids can make. Describing it is... well, difficult, and would impose a fairly hefty penalty on their rolls - something along the lines of a -10.
Hana Tenko |
Ha. My bad about posting with the wrong alias with Hana. Tragically I didn't notice it in time to change it. Hope it isn't to much of an eyesore.
Aganhei GM |
Eh, these things happen from time to time. No worries.

Do we need to decide the order in which everyone crosses? If so my proposed order is Yuto - Seishin - Torra - Hana - Teruko.
Hirabashi Yuto |
It sounds fine to me!
Aganhei GM |
Good, good... steeples fingers.
More seriously, I'll move you guys on tomorrow morning. I've been feeling a bit out of it these past couple days.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Not that it will help Hana avoiding to develop rat-fobia :) but just as a reminder for if more people is later affected, bless gives a +1 vs fear effects.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Rats, why are those small rodents so much internationally hated :)
Hirabashi Yuto |
Is Torra still up or it is the ratling turn? Or we are just out of combat now and we can post in whatever order? :)
Aganhei GM |
The ratling's up, sorry, I've been out most of today.
Aganhei GM |
I hope this encounter isn't dragging/becoming frustrating. If it is, I can recommend two tactics - ignoring him and exploring the area anyways (possibly unwise), or retreating away from the house. He's defending his territory, and isn't gonna chase after you.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Aganhei, shall the casting not need two Concentration rolls, one to cast while pinned and the other to cast defensively to avoid Attacks of Opportunity?
Aganhei GM |
I don't think so? That seems unintuitive to me, honestly. But you could be right. My sense is that that's distinctly weird, though.
Hm. I don't see anything that says definitively either way, but in this game, I'd lean towards having being grappled supersede needing to cast defensively - notably, Combat Casting applies to both, though I don't think that has direct relevance to either point of view.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Well, they are two different things, one is to manage to cast while grappled and the other is to avoid an AoO.
That said the casting defensively in this instance is probably irrelevant because Yuto was grappling, which gives him the grappled condition, and you cannot AoO while grappled. And I think the other adjacent was Teruko and you cannot AoO with a crossbow :)
Still he needed to make a Concentration check DC 16 + spell level (+ maybe bless, not sure) because of the grapple.
But doesn't matter, let's just move on :)
Aganhei GM |

I did make the latter save (it's in the GM rolls spoiler, so as not to show my hand beforehand). And yes, that makes more sense - if there'd been someone else nearby, I'd say that the casting defensively would have been necessary.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Ah sorry! I try to avoid reading spoilers not directed at my character. Yeah, with that 25 result it sure was enough to beat the grapple :)
