Pai Shecks |
No shield here. Pai likes to keep both hands free so she can Gather Power.
Igor Ivantoe |
I have to say that I am pretty pleased with the Earth Elemental's combat ability for level 5 play. It is not at the level of an animal companion but it is reasonable and with good AC and all of its immunities it can sit confidently on the front lines against most opponents.
Igor Ivantoe |
I love Pai's optimism. As if she can parley with the crazed guards or lunatics. :)
Pai Shecks |
She's trying so hard not to be a murder hobo, but this whole mission is the very definition of dysfunctional for her. The hard part is trying to figure out what thought process she could use to justify doing everything that has to be done. It's not just killing five super-evil bad guys so the huge, destructive, murderer slug they summoned doesn't get too strong to defeat anymore. It's killing perhaps dozens of people (the Keepers' victims) because we don't have the time or resources to humanely secure them. That's hard for her. She wants so much for there to be a non-murdery solution, despite the fact that she knows it's not going to happen.
Pai Shecks |
She can't deal nonlethal damage with her kinetic blasts, unfortunately. There is an infusion associated with the wood element that allows for that, but she doesn't have access to it right now.
Igor Ivantoe |
Easier said then done when the opponent has 5 hit points and you are a big cat or throw lightning bolts for a living. :)
Edit-Caught in a cross-post with Pai who got there first. :)
Borax Bulan |
As i understand the rules, you just need someone to do non-lethal damage at some before the creature goes zero. The rest can be lethal so long as the Lethal alone isn't enough to hit 0.
Igor Ivantoe |
^Sure what you are saying is true if you are facing a tough single opponent. However against waves of low-powered goons it is not really a practical suggestion.
GM Fuzzfoot |
The solution is too not kill them. You all are dominating every opponent, so to take some penalties or not use every resource is probably a viable option.
Still, regardless of whom everyone of these opponents was certainly intent on killing you. So I don’t expect your characters should feel guilty, This is more like Arkham than it is a place for people to actually recover.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Sooo...your "background music" link leads to a video that doesn't work. It says it's "private", which I don't even recall seeing before on YouTube.
Igor Ivantoe |
These people are obviously here for the creepy flavor and not for any sort of combat challenge. I suspect that will change as we advance through the building. :)
GM Fuzzfoot |
Yah, I am even trying to increase the challenge by piling them on, but this is pretty much not a threat to a decent group.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Yah, I am even trying to increase the challenge by piling them on....
*flashes back to that one scene from The Matrix*
Hmm, I've already got my coat, should my next implement be a pair of opaque shades (that would be a Divination Implement, too, so perhaps I could "download" knowledge of kung-fu)...?
Pai Shecks |
@GM Fuzzfoot: How's it going? Busy week?
Igor Ivantoe |
Suggestion is such a good spell but not good at all in a wand. A limited charge wand of Haste or Sleet Storm would be so much better.
However considering what we just fought it is more than good enough. :)
Pai Shecks |
Hi folks. Busy week?
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sorry - yes. 80 hrs work this week and 80 hrs last as well. It's been rough.
Igor Ivantoe |
Holy molly! What are you doing that is so many hours a week?
GM Fuzzfoot |
Software - developing virtual conferences for a travel restricted pandemic world...
Pai Shecks |
Bleh. Hopefully it winds down for you soon. My husband is a software engineer too. That "40 hour workweek"-thing is a myth.
Igor Ivantoe |
@GM Fuzzfoot - The player playing Nectanebo is absent in another of the games I am playing. Perhaps putting his character on delay might be a good idea now that we have started combat? This player has a tendency to simply ghost out at times.
Igor Ivantoe |
Does Pai have line of effect to the Keeper? It would be a shame to waste all that electrical energy. :)
GM Fuzzfoot |
Yah, I think so. He is peeking from behind a curtain, so we'll call that partial conceilment.
Igor Ivantoe |
Crispy Keeper then. :)
Is that enough damage to take him down?
Igor Ivantoe |
@GM Fuzzfoot - Tiny Pebble's tremor sense should be able to pick up any creature standing on the walkway within 60' of his position. Can we assume that the large red square is an invisible monster?
Igor Ivantoe |
I am really glad that I have Tiny Pebble around in case anyone gets buried in this building. Although I am hoping that it will not come to that.
Pai Shecks |
Ooh! Yeah, that would suck. Your familiar is quite awesome.
Igor Ivantoe |
Thanks. What is a wizard without minions?
It is a shame that no one else speaks Terran but still Pai and Tiny Pebble have bonded despite the language barrier. :)
Nectanebo the Vulture |
I am terribly, terribly sorry.
In addition to this site slowly pushing me away from it on some level, I just went about a week without my most effective medication (such as that even is).
Pai Shecks |
Yikes! So sorry that happened to you. I hope things look up for you soon.
Igor Ivantoe |
Nice monster. He has some style crashing through the wall and threatening to bring down the place. I am sure that he will be a lot scarier in action than the pathetic Keepers we have been trashing lately. :)
Igor Ivantoe |
I have been thinking this over and I think our best plan of action is to run at this point. The only character that can do effective damage against it is Pai and she will have to overcome its Spell Resistance of 20 which is very high at our level. Clearly we need to weaken it as much as possible by doing all we can before facing it in a final battle.
We can always come back a bit latter and have Tiny Pebble dig around for treasure but right now we should concern ourselves with a possible TPK.
Granted I do not know what other events may happen in game but right now that seems like the best plan of action considering all we know about this creature.
Borax Bulan |
Sorry. I was hoping o know what we were facing. A couple of thoughts
@GM - Thank you. Thank you for not being afraid to post the stat block given success of the rolls. I can't tell you how forward-thinking I believe this to be, though I know some won't agree.
@Igor - Uh...yeah. I kind of think we need to at least get out of the bulding.
@GM - Is it obvious to the PCs if they leave the building, they could still attack the creature from the outside?
Pai Shecks |
Run and memorize a bunch of spells that are more likely to affect this creature? And maybe try to buy magical ranged weapons?
There's a part of me that wants to analyse all the possible outcomes here, but that might lead to metagaming. Pai doesn't think things through like that.
GM Fuzzfoot |
So in answer to the question, yes - leaving the building seems key, but there is absolutely nothing to indicate you will be able to do much to the creature from outside.
Igor Ivantoe |
This monster is as bad as I thought. We have to see if we can get Pai out of the grapple and then maybe throw Nectanebo's skeleton into the mix to buy us a round to get out of here. There is no way we can win this fight straight up.
@GM Fuzzfoot - I am wondering if the monster was stuck in the Aqueous Orb if that would break the grapple on Pai?
@Raynard - I see that you have Grease prepared. Perhaps if you cast it on Pai it would help her escape the grapple.
GM Fuzzfoot |
No, I see no reason why it would break the grapple. Even though the space doesn't allow for a large and a medium creature, I think it is more likely to also engulf Pai unless she can be freed first.
Igor Ivantoe |
I really hope that Pai is able to escape from the grapple. I do not have any spells to help her at this point. This creature moved surprisingly fast especially considering the difficult terrain in the building.
Pai making the escape roll is crucial at this point and I would recommend that she use her shirt/folio re-roll if the dice gods are not on her side.
Pai Shecks |
No re-rolls for Pai. I really gotta buy a shirt or folio one of these days. Welp, here goes!
Igor Ivantoe |
I would have offered mine up but 16 on the die is a good roll. Hopefully it will be enough.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Okay, just to be clear: Are we, or are we not, going to try to make it face us outside the s@+*-brickhouse of damnation? This is important to my course of action.
Myself, I face a dillemma: On one hand, I have THE SWORD and know how to use it.
On the other hand...Elves haven't got much blood to spare to begin with. *takes wistful sidelong glance at that ring Igor and I had been arguing a bit over earlier*
I will listen to suggestions.
Borax Bulan |
Most of us are trying to flee the building. Pai is caught. If she can escape, she said she'd try and flee.
I don't know that we can reasonably defeat this creature outside. Maybe. but it looks like it does a ton of damage per round and we don't appear to have much in the way of combat healing.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Ha! John Wick doesn’t take pet death lightly!
