Shel saw a need to protect Imara and the gray field came into being again surrounding the Rogue
Rory went on the attack with his wolves. Storm bit into the spider to his front, While Thistle missed, feeling wobbly because of the venom. Rory successfully stabbed the spider however,
The two spiders stayed on the offensive hungrily with both wolves attacked again. Thistle got Bit again but shrugged the overall effects oif the venom off with a shake of her head growling.

It is against his better judgment yet Ovril steps forward and strikes at one of the two remaining spider foes. Every instinct is yelling get out! at him, but surely it won't affect his ability to hit the darn many-legged thing?

Current AC: 15

Imara grins at Rory as if to say "here goes nothing!" and them moves to dash between the two spiders in an attempt to get behind the one that Rory is attacking. She slashes out at it and gets a decent hit.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Shortsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (3) = 7
If I understand the rules correctly, failing the acrobatics roll makes her vulnerable to an attack of opportunity, but she still gets to finish her movement if they don't hit her. So, if she gets missed twice, she'll end up behind the spider Rory is on and get sneak attack damage. Otherwise, I know her movement gets stopped, but I am not sure if she stays where she is or if she is now between the two spiders.

Rydell ,oved in a circuitous route around Storm to come up at the base of the stairs, swinging his Elven Curve Blade at the dog sized spider that had been attacking Storm. His blade keenly slicing into the arachnid, ending its existence.

Ovril moved up next to the spider in front of Rory and snapped his bladed scarf out, missing the foe.
Imara however attempted to roll past the spider, ran afoul of the bladed scarf and it kept her from tumbling past without alerting the arachnid, who reached out with mandibles and sliced her leg, venom pooling up on the floor beneath her. she came up on her feet opposite Rory and stabbed out severely injuring the spider.

With the spider focusing on someone other than Ovril, the Varisian opts for a daring attack that leaves him completely exposed.
Std action: attack

Ovril's bladed scarf drops the spider in front of her. Imara looks at Ovril with respect. Nice work. That thing is boss. You'll have to teach me to use it sometime.
Her sword and dagger drip goo onto the ground and Imara glances around, looking for something to wipe them on. Everyone alright?
I think the spider that got an attack of opportunity on her when she moved needed to roll twice for protective luck?
Shel
"This place is a death trap!" Shel shouts. "It's a miracle no curious children have been killed exploring it!"
Phoenix screams victory from Rydell's head.
Ovril Necul Havayselvay
Imara's praise is met by a rather sheepish smile and a shrug. Unlike Imara, Ovril didn't feel like he did that good a job, but perhaps appearances can be deceiving? It is the Varisian way, after all. "Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure, however, if my grandma and folk would appreciate me sharing Varisian secrets with outsiders ... but ... who knows, maybe one day?"
As the rush of battle fades and reality settles back in, Ovril wraps the innocent-looking scarf around his neck and torso, exchanging the bladed threads for an ordinary playing card. "Are we good to go? It seems we've only managed to explore the very entrance of this place, and already we're knee-deep in danger."
Rory Cornelius
Seeing the last spider fall, Rory quickly dismounts from Thistle, checking her front paws and legs. turning to Storm he tells the younger wolf, "Storm Guard."
Looking up to OVril, "Let's not open any more doors or go to the basement yet, Thistles injured."
Then turns looking at Thistles legs again, Looking up to Shel he asks her, "Shel, didn't you say you provide healing for animals? Could you take a look at Thistles legs?"
Rory added CLW for his second round spell, but we han't rested yet...
Imara Novoron
The elf shrugs good-naturedly at Ovril's polite decline of teaching the Way of the Bladed Scarf. She smiles back at him. Maybe someday.
Hearing Rory's comment about Thistle's leg, Imara nods, looking down at her various injuries. I am not in great shape either...I could use some healing as well.
Imara's stat block is still showing a 12 for her max HP. She is actually at 14.

Once everyone has gathered around, Shel closes her eyes begins to chant in orcish. Moments later, a wave of healing energy cascades over the party. She continues to chant and another wave follows the first.

Seeing Thistles wounds mend and heal, Rory nods politely to Shel, "Thank you Shel, we really appreciate it." He scratches Thistle behind the ears. "Don't we girl."
As he mounts onto his wolf, he turns her slightly pointing to the remaining door. Turning to Imara he asks, "Shall we check that one while were here?"
Imara Novoron
sorry. Thought Id fixed that.
I thought you did too! It must have a mind of its own!
Imara Novoron
Imara breathes a sigh of relief as the pain and stiffness eases out of her body. Much better! Thank you, Shel!
We still have the items from the hallway to grab. I don't think I can carry anything more - I already have just about more than I can handle.
Once the items are distributed, Imara will check the door for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 +1 for magical traps
Rory Cornelius
Which door? If its the door to the hall that you looked in before, youd know it wasnt trapped. Ovril walked about 10 feet down that hall, cutting sections of the portraits in there off for a new harrow deck as well
I was speaking of the door we are near pointing 'north' we were checking doors before we followed them too far.
GMMichael
1 person marked this as a favorite.
The door on the north side of the room? next to the boulder?
Imara moves to stand before the door to the north, and looks over the door. She can see how the door is bound up against the door jams and its pressing inward in places. She pauses and gives it some thoiught and realizes its the door that theyd seen from the outside that she realized theyd have to move a lot of rubble to open.
Rory Cornelius
Thanks GMMichael
Near enough to the door to also see the buckling door jams, Rory turns Thistle away from it. "Looks like were not exploring there soon." He gestures to the door to the right in the main hallway. "Shall we explore that hallway to the west, before we head to the basement?"
Turning toward Storm, he points to where Storm is sitting licking his paws. "Storm stay, Storm Guard!" Hearing his name the young wolf jumps to his feet ready to run. But as the command to 'stay' is given, he drops his ears, giving a small whine and sitting back down.
Phoenix the Magnificent
Phoenix spends some time bent over one of the spiders, doing something with his beak. After a while, he leaves the spider and hops over to Imara. Imara. Look. Look Imara. Imara. Imara. Look. He raises his head to look up at the elf, revealing a fang he had extracted from one of the spiders held in his beak. I’m a spider, Imara.
When Rory suggests the western hallway, he drops his fang and hops off to the unexplored passage, keen chicken eyes alert for trouble.
Chicken Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Rory Cornelius
Having left Storm to guard the main room, Rory turns Thistle towards the western room, following Shel and the chicken. As the chicken heads past the stairs, Rory notices Thistle sniffing at the chicken, ears perked and tail wagging. Stopping the wolf by the stairs, he leans forward telling her, "Leave the bird alone, it's not a play toy or lunch." Thistle turns her head, looking at her rider, dropping her ears a little and giving a huff, but stays near the stairs, acting like she's ignoring the exploring chicken.
I assume the stairs go down?
Ovril Necul Havayselvay
Ovril touches Rory's shoulder and blesses him with a sliver of luck. "Desna knows all of us can use a bit of luck. With all that we've encountered down here, imagine what we can expect to be up there."
'Guidance' on Rory. You can add a +1 to any one d20 roll made in the next minute ^_^
Rory Cornelius
Realizing they'd found stairs going up and stairs going down, Rory Rides Thistle back out to the large room, asking. "Why don't we check the upstairs first, then the basement."
Calling Storm over to the door, he tales the wolf, "Storm Stay, Storm guard." Waiting for everyone to follow, he turns Thistle and rides her up the stairs. Leaving Storm behind, looking dejected.
GMMichael
Rory rides Thistle up the first short flight of stairs and turns and theres a few more steps up to what looks to be a loft. A portion of the ceiling has collapsed and there is mounds of debris and soot in the loft. This would have been a section that you might pause in before continuing upstairs, but the upper floors are gone.
Rory Cornelius
Realizing the upper floors are gone, Rory shrugs, "Looks like nothing, but let's make sure." Touching Thistles sides, the wolf turns and looks at him giving a huff, but she moves on up the stairs so the halfling can take a look around.
He will ride around the room at half speed looking, taking 10 (21) on perception, how closely are the others following behind?
GMMichael
Around the corner in a small alcove is a large soot covered statue of The Goddess Iomedae stands, longsword upraised pointing to the charred beams above her head. A Kite Shield is held in the other hand. The statue stands precariously in a and alcove that the walls are charred and seem unsafe. A good solid push might send the statue over into the stairs or to fall upon someone on the first floor.
Phoenix the Magnificent
Phoenix patters up the stairs behind Rory. Taking wing, he alights on the tip of the statues' upraised sword. This statue is a reasonable likeness of myself. My worshipers count many great craftsmen among their numbers.
Shel follows after Phoenix, casting detect magic to make sure nothing magical is hiding from them.
Ovril Necul Havayselvay
Ovril will fall in behind, Rory. I can imagine Rydell, being an archer, wants to be behind or near the front.
Ovril observes Phoenix as the chicken performs some rather strange movements. Strange for a chicken, anyway. Strange for Phoenix? Hrm, perhaps. "Why are you flapping your wings in an altogether funny way, Phoenix?"
Rory Cornelius
I keep forgetting that Rory has spells :)
Verifying what he suspects by Phoenix's antics Rory turns to Ovril. "I think he detects the magic on the statue." Dismounting Thistle, Rory tells her. "Thistle Stay."
As she drops her ears and tucks here tail slightly, Rory turns to the others, "you all stay put, I don't want your weight bring the thing down." He then attempts to tiptoe to the statue to see if he can loose the shield or sword without causing the floor to collapse.
GMMichael, what kind of roll do you want?
Rory Cornelius
Turning to his friend, Rory shrugs. "It's solid. I don't know what the magic is, or what it will do, or how to get it down stairs." Retuning to his mount. "When this is all settled, I guess we could toss a rope on it and tip it over nocking it through the floor. Then drag it home." Mounting on Thistle, the wolf wags her tail.
Gesturing back at the statue, "But I don't think we should try it now." Using his legs to guide Thistle back to the steps. "Unless someone has another idea, let's head to the basement and finish searching this building before the sun sets."
He turns back to the statue "Iomedae I know I don't talk to you much, but if you can help us solve this mystery, it would be appreciated." After throwing up the quick prayer, he looks at Shel and shrugs, "Can't hurt, right"
Phoenix the Magnificent
In answer to Rory’s plea, Phoenix bestows a blessing of courage on the halfling, even if he pronounced Phoenix’s name wrong. Phoenix is a loving water spirit.
”If she could tell us why her followers are painting swords all over the town, that would be very useful.” Shel grumbles. ”I am surprised the statue hasn’t been reclaimed... Maybe there’s more to it?” With giant creepy-crawlies around every bend, the statue mystery would have to wait for another time.
Rory Cornelius
'well, that was curious.' Feeling the blessing of Iomedae Rory shrugs at Shel's observations. "Yeah, I'm not sure why it's still hear either. If nothing else, I'm glad it still is because I fell better."
Nudging Thistle to turn. "We can tell the priestess about it later. But It wasn't her Iomedae's servants painting the swords. It was the blasted orcs that messed up the room at the inn." Realizing his choice of words he gives Shel a sheepish smile. "Um, no offence."
Imara Novoron
A warm glow envelops Rory. Magic! Imara responds to Shel and Rory, but her eyes are locked on the statue itself. It's hard to transport, I suppose... She approaches the statue reverently and reaches out, placing her palm against that stone. I have been so off balance since we were ambushed...maybe Iomadae can help with that. Imara bows and speaks softly, Please, Iomedae, return my agility to me so that I may protect Trunau from attack. And not feel like such an idiot. She freezes in anticipation of the response.
After the prayer and the response (if any)
The statue is kind of precarious up here. If anyone managed to sneak up here and we were below...well...that could end badly. We'll need to make sure we don't set ourselves up to fall into that trap.
Rory Cornelius
Noding in aggreement with Imara's observation, Rory begins to ride Thistle back down the stairs. "Fortunatly the steps to the basement is on the other side of the building. I doubt if it will fall through the lower floor as well."
As he gets to the the first floor he dismounts, streaching his bowed legs. Rechecking where Thistles wounds were, and then scrathing her behind the ears. Turning he checks on Storm, giving the adolecent wolf a once over to make sure he was not injured. Remembering the antelope horn he had put in Thistles saddle bags, he took it out gving it to the Male. Storm, excited about the horn wagging his tail took the chew toy gently on his mouth and flopping on the ground started to chew. While Thistle gave Rory a look of disgust and a loud huff. Rolling his eyes he pats her on the head. "Don't worry girl, There is another one in the kitchen at the longhouse. Mounting his wolf, Rory tells, Imara, [b]"We'll keep a rear guard, you and Rydell scout the front."
As the others move to the basement, Rory illuminates the tip of his rapier, bringing up the rear, he calls back, "Storm come!" The happy wolf picks up the antler horn and follows along, wagging his tail.
Ovril Necul Havayselvay
Uncertain about offering prayer to a strict and demanding goddess, Ovril is the odd one out by not offering lip-service to the statue. "Lead the way, Rory. Whatever future lies ahead of us, we can take it head-on with card, bow, and blade."
And, after realizing he ought to include the halfling's two companions, he hastily adds, "... and bite."
Imara Novoron
Nodding at Rory, Imara moves toward the basement stairs. She smiles at Ovril's comment. We've cleared this floor and the second floor is gone. If they are still here, they'll be in the basement. I suggest we proceed with all stealth moving forward. I'd like to make use of that darkvision potion we found so that I can scout ahead without the aid of a torch. Does anyone object?
If everyone is alright with this plan, she will move ahead of the party to scout. Her goal is to get just far enough ahead that she can do a visual check of the area before the torch light becomes visible. She doesn't want to go so far ahead that she is stranded by herself, though.
GM Michael - do you need multiple stealth rolls or just one? If it's just one, I'll probably use a hero point to boost it.
