Honestly, if you look at the gameplay tab, most of the posts are done by Torsten and Ril. My contribution hasn't been strong enough.

Torsten Runeforger |

So, should we begin looking for a third? Or is this doable with two?

Yhrrilka |

I'd be happy to pick up a third if we think we can get someone. A duo can work, god knows I think we can both bring it, but I feel like we'd be better as a trio. Just a hunch, nothing I can elaborate right now. (Also because we're about to take my wife out for her birthday, so more later.)

Your Benevolent Dictator |

Keeping it as a duo campaign is possible. You two have a great dynamic, after all, and I don't remember combats being particularly difficult thus far.
On the other hand, the complete lack of divine casting will be problematic if you ever fail a save against status effects/ability damage/etc. This is also a point in the campaign where it would be easy to bring in a new PC.
I have no preference, so I'll leave it up to the two of you to decide. XD

Torsten Runeforger |

I’d be alright bringing in someone if it’s by invite. There are a lot of house rules to get caught up here. Otherwise we can do 2 given that this is gestalt. It’ll be harder but doable

Yhrrilka |

I've mulled the possibility of trying to rebuild Ril, replacing Sorcerer with Fire domain Cleric (possibly with the Warpriest archetype). Both were ideas I toyed with when we started last fall, but I'm not sure she'd still be Ril after that, if it makes sense.

Your Benevolent Dictator |

Alternate possibility: Flames Oracle (foretold curse). That would require significantly less rebuilding.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Invite-only recruitment's a possibility, but I don't know anyone off the top of my head. As long as you have a plan for healing/condition removal (a small Life dip, perhaps), we should be fine with two players.

Torsten Runeforger |

I wouldn’t do that. We’re at the point where our characters are who they are. Plus you can pick up healing and the like through spheres. So no need to do a huge class change.

You and your sensibility! :P
Let me see if I can rejigger my Magic Talent choices enough to get even just one or two Life Sphere picks on the table. (cracks knuckles, opens spreadsheet)

Yhrrilka |

Here's what I've got so far:
Under this plan, I'd change the Talent I just acquired at level 5 to be pickup of base Life Sphere ~~(it had been the Deathless Aegis)~~ with the Limited Restoration (Cure) drawback, so no Temp HP for us. The Drawback would be used to pick up Restore Health (so we can deal with poison/disease). If I can scrape up any further Talents down the line, they'll be used for probably Deeper Healing and Break Enchantment.
(I strongly considered Unnatural Healing, but it might be too much.)
To cover the cost, I might take Arcane Strike off the table, and use my feat choice at L7 to get Extra Magic Talent. Otherwise, I'll just bump eeeeeeverything back a level.
Thoughts?
On a related note, would Torsten be amenable to buying off the Regenerate Drawback at some point, so there's at least a fallback position available if I'm KO'ed?
EDIT: wait, Deathless wasn't picked up via level, that was from putting the Limited Protection drawback back onto Protection Sphere. My actual Talent pickup was my Enhance Craft talent, which YOU CANNOT HAVE BACK DAMMIT. :) Instead I'll rejigger things such that what I lose is the base Nature Sphere for Fire Control, and I'll pick that back up in the next level or two.

Torsten Runeforger |

I could...but it would mean abandoning the character concept of purely being tattoo focused magic. It's what separates him from being a wizard or a cleric in a classical sense.
How about this: Torsten will replace Sense Motive with Heal. And he'll carry a healer's kit around. It isn't a stretch to imagine that he'd know first aid. And he'll start putting skill points into Knowledge Planes.
Then I'll do this:
Lvl 6: Inscribe Magic Tattoo
Lvl 8: Healer's Hands Conduit (You can use the Heal skill to treat deadly wounds as a full-round action. You do not take a penalty for not using a healer’s kit when treating deadly wounds this way, and you can do so on a given creature more than once per day. When treating deadly wounds this way, if your result exceeds the DC by 10 or more, add your ranks in Knowledge (planes) to the damage healed. These benefits do not apply to creatures that are not healed by positive energy. You can use this feat’s benefit a number of times per day equal to your ranks in Knowledge (planes).)
Lvl 10: Signature Skill Heal (Skill Unlock. 5 Ranks: When you treat deadly wounds, the target recovers hit points and ability damage as if it had rested for a full day. 10 Ranks: When you treat deadly wounds, the target recovers hit points as if it had rested for a full day with long-term care. 15 Ranks: When you treat deadly wounds, the creature recovers hit point and ability damage as if it had rested for 3 days. 20 Ranks: When you treat deadly wounds, the target recovers hit point and ability damage as if it had rested for 3 days with long-term care.)
Lvl 12: Incredible Healer (When you use the Heal skill to treat deadly wounds, the target heals a number of hit points equal to either the result of your Heal check or the normal amount, whichever is higher. A creature can still benefit from having deadly wounds treated no more than once per day.)
Lvl 14: Skill Focus Craft Tattoos
Lvl 16: Skill Focus Heal
Lvl 18: Skill Focus Athletics
Lvl 20: One Eye Open (The DCs of your Perception checks don’t increase when you are asleep. If you succeed at a Perception check to notice something dangerous while asleep, you can wake up to confront the danger.)
---------------
At the moment, if Ril is KO'd then Torsten will be able to revive her. And from there, she'll be able to use her own magic to heal herself. Starting at lvl 8, his heal skill will be good enough for him to be considered a healer by trade, if that is what he so wanted. Which would come from his intense study of how magic flows within the living body.
That sound good?

Yhrrilka |

I think that works. Yeah, I don't want either of us to get too "stretched out of shape" by this, I just was hoping we could find a way to make sure that all the figurative healing eggs weren't in my basket.
Maybe don't totally bail on ranks in Sense Motive, though. I have no Wisdom and SM isn't a class skill for either end of my gestalt. Ril stands a high chance of thinking, "I should totally get in the back of that van, I mean, he's got candy!" :D
Or, alternately, "Jeez Torsten, just because you walked in on Vencarlo wearing a Blackjack mask, you jump to all kinds of conclusions!" :)
GM: if you're okay with the changes as presented above, LMK and I'll update Ril's sheet as appropriate.

Torsten Runeforger |

Skills (4/lvl, +1 from cunning)
* 5x Influence: +11 (extra +2 Diplomacy)
* 4x Athletics: +11
* 5x Spellcraft: +8
* 5x Craft Tattoos: +10
* 1x Sense Motive: +10
* 5x Heal: +12
Bought a healer's kit for 50 gold.
Still have sense motive that is plenty good enough. I'll probably go off/on with influence and sense motive to keep the two skills more or less in line. I have another character who has +10 sense motive and +28 bluff. He's great at lying, but average in telling a lie...won't make the same mistake again. :P
edit: And yay, an out of combat healer!

@GM: sure, that'll be great when it's an option. Just have to remember it.
@Torsten: my god, that list of skills is so compact and neat and focused and mine is none of those things. :-O I will take this time to note that I would literally need ten ranks in Sense Motive to match you there.

It helps that Pathfinder gave dwarves the option to just be amazing.
* Iron Citizen: Dwarves with this racial trait gain a +2 bonus on Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks, and Diplomacy is a class skill for such dwarves. This replaces stability.
* 1 skill point (+4) Wis 18 (+4) Iron Citizen (+2) = +10
And thanks to incanter he has the conversion inquisition, letting him use his Wisdom in place of charisma for influence. A fun combination for being useful out of combat.
Most knowledge skills can be handled by his pet rock (which is funnily enough much smarter than him!)

Yhrrilka |

I don't help my case with my tendency to throw a rank or two at damn near any skill that catches my eye with a thought of, "Well it beats having to try doing that untrained!"

Yhrrilka |

On Knowledge skills, I at least have my Arcane Endowment that lets me use them with Charisma. Ril just wills the truth into her heart. The only one that's a problem is divine, because it's not class for her.
The sum of Ril's knowledge of religion: "Sarenrae f@##ing rules! WHOOOOOOO!"

Yhrrilka |

OK, the changes I mentioned earlier are in. If Torsten's good, now that I'm armed with more than 2 ranks in Heal and a plucky attitude, I'm ready to get to Dawnflower House.
Can I throw in the purchase of a healer's kit, or is that too little too late?

Yhrrilka |

So be it! Thanks.

Torsten Runeforger |

I'm ready to go! Moved around my progression plan, but kept Torsten as he is the same. Was tempted to drop protection sphere and return to my previous plan of focusing on life sphere, but decided that if I can make him work without changing him then I will do so. :)

Yhrrilka |

Sounds good hoss! As far as future-state, IDK if you need to implement the entire package you outlined last night (unless, again, that was already part of the plan), I'd say "enough to get Ril back on her feet in an emergency" is the necessary and sufficient amount.
Now if you'll pardon me, today is my first day physically back in the office in almost year and a half, so I'm gonna go have a good cry under my desk. :D

Torsten Runeforger |

At the moment Torsten has the heal skill and a healer's kit. If Ril gets taken down to negatives, he can get her back on her feet. It'll be awhile until he can really be a healer, but it doesn't make sense to me for him to suddenly be great a healing other people. Given that we both have the life sphere, I think that we'll be just fine when it comes to not dying.

Yhrrilka |

It looks like there are magic items (Implements?) that can grant additional talents for a given sphere, bit it also looks like they are stupid expensive. We'll see how things shake out.
GM, when those implements say they give an enhancement bonus to CL,that can take it over your character level, right?

Yhrrilka |

Okay, great. Really just trying to figure if it's feasible to "offload" any functionality to items. (Looked expensive from what the rules go by.)
One of the guys I know just got back to me earlier today, he's maybe interested in our third spot (this guy, in Zoh's initial appearance, was shaping up to be the Butch to my Sundance). Tom did ask me, GM, if you use Discord any, thought it might be faster turnaround than going by forum PMs.

Torsten Runeforger |

Welcome! It looks like our trip to the Temple of Adabar is going to be more productive than I first imagined.

Yhrrilka |

(waves at Hurley)
Whoooooo!

Yhrrilka |

Torsten, I was just going through some old posts, you mentioned wanting to use the Zodiac Tattoos feat to replicate the Mind-Buttressing Armor ability.
This ability can be applied only to medium or heavy armor.
:(

Torsten Runeforger |

While sad, there are plenty of very expensive tattoos to save for. So a good catch, but I think it’ll still work out :)

Yhrrilka |

I have no doubt of that! First thing I have in mind is at least light fortification, I'll have to just take it from there.

Torsten Runeforger |

Damn, that is a good idea! I should do that...if I get critted then I lose spell points. Some protection against that would be wise.

The woman who did Ril's art plays a 5e swashbuckler rogue. When I told her I was probably going to be getting an ability that would let me negate sneak attacks, her first reaction was, "How rude!" :D

Torsten Runeforger |

YBD, hope you’re enjoying the scene. :)
And Hurley, what kind of character are you thinking of? Knowing the outline would help in the opening scene.

Yhrrilka |

I look forward to the opportunity to do some of this, but it'll have to wait until some time tomorrow, probably evening.

Yhrrilka |

GM, you should know that in my interpretation of the Burning Sun tribe, I've changed some stuff, nothing huge. Mainly the timeline; I had the tribe's conversion to Sarenrae happen about a century ago. They're not quite "five minutes from annihilation" as the Belkzen sourcebook seems to imply, but the other tribes are definitely at the point of a collective raised eyebrow about them. I know that in some of the 2e lore, the orcs as a whole have kind of told the Whispering Way to F!@# off (I know I've read that but can't recall where). Can't help but think that maybe by the time of 4719-20, maybe a certain bunch of Sarenite hicks start getting through to their brethren? :)

Your Benevolent Dictator |

What's the plan for the next in-game day? Hurley's in the middle of moving, so it'll be a little bit before we can introduce the new character. I know going back to the orphanage was mentioned as an option, as was visiting the Temple of Abadar to try to procure additional aid. Alternately, I can advance the plot.

Yhrrilka |

Ril would want to head back to Dawnflower House; if there's time after that, going to the Temple of Abadar is fine with me. Torsten, got any input on this?

Yhrrilka |

Test for echo. Torsten, work catch you in the gears again?

Torsten Runeforger |

Was getting caught up in other matters. Sorry. I think that it would be best for us to move the scene to the Temple of Abadar.

Yhrrilka |

Fair 'nuff, long as you're okay.
On to the Temple of Abadar!

Yhrrilka |

The link describing the guy doesn't load anything.
