Sadly, I was looking at the damage the queen was doing and thought I had another round before I needed to heal. I wasn't expecting the dragon...I've been regularly forgetting about Robustness and the bleed damage. I'm going to go back to the beginning of combat and see where my HP should be. Because if my math is right now, Usawoti is - 20 HP.
His skin cracking and blood flowing from his entire body, Usawoti begins to fall to the ground.
With your permission YBD, after redoing the math, he's at - 15 HP. Serithtial can cast cure moderate wounds (2d8+10hp) do I have your permission to 'play' the sentient sword, or would you like to?

Realizing he'd keep consciousness, he decided not to press his luck, commanding the ring to expend his blessing. Dodging the dragons tail, Usawoti still gets bit. Smilng through the discomfort, he knew the dragon should have focused on the stone dwarf. Torsten had turned himself into a killing machine and was much more dangerous that he. As Torsten tears the dragon in half, Usawoti wipes the blood from his face, watching for the queen to appear. "She has no idea what's coming does she." It hadn't been a question.
When she does materialize Usawoti studies her for a second, he had something planned for her and wanted it to be perfect. Lifting the bone ring he commands "എനർവേഷൻ" Sending a draining ghost strike to Enervate her.

With the queen completely focused on Usawoti, Torsten managed to slosh his way through the pool of blow and get behind her. Pulling his arm back and activating his glove so that it danced with electrical energy, he delivered a devastating punch directly into her back. If he was taller, he would have gone for the head. Given the whirlwind that was her rapier, he hoped that his attack would be enough to give Usawoti the opening that he needed. Given that her wounds kept healing whatever damage he caused, he knew that their only hope lay in Usawoti's swordsmanship.

@Usawoti: Due to Expert Feint, she's flat-footed until your next turn begins. As such, I'd recommend waiting to post your next actions until after Torsten's gone. ;-)
Your flanking attack is quite effective, and while the queen's able to avoid a few of the strikes and parry others, you both manage to inflict heavy damage. Usawoti's attacks miss, but the queen is so distracted avoiding Serithtial that she practically walks directly into Torsten's grasp. And as you both know, that's a deadly place to be. As the dwarf bludgeons Ileosa, the Crown of Fangs starts to glow. Rising off of the queen's head, it hovers above the pool of blood - which begins to shudder and shake. An immense skeletal wing briefly lances out from one side of the pool, a draconic talon from another. The entire room begins to tremble and heave, and a growing roar fills the air, quickly rising to deafening levels. Lightning crackles, and iron chains writhe and snap around the room as a massive form slowly starts to form inside the pool.

Surprise! Defeating the queen isn't quite the end. You have two options: fight a reborn Kazavon (mythic great wyrm blue dragon) OR stop him before he finishes regenerating. You have up to ten rounds to decide. ;-)

Torsten grit his teeth as he pummeled the queen into a fine paste. Her defenses broken, his fist went into her chest and came out from her back. Ripping his hand out, his mouth dropped as he saw Kazavaon itself begin to rise. Using the Queen's body as a shield, he held the corpse up and used it to block whatever came his way which he could not dodge.
Is there any upside besides the challenge in fighting a reborn Kazavon, such as killing him for good?

Breathing a sigh of relief as Torsten finishes the queen, Usawoti's eyes widen as the crown begins to levitate. As the room begins to tremble and heave, the deafening roar begins to affect him, Usawoti blinks as the events alter his mental faculties. Shaking the sensation of mental fatigue, he also releases the klar and shakes it off his hand. Believing they only have seconds to respond, he studies the crown for split second and lifts the sentient blade in both hands and begins chopping repeatedly at the crown.

Yes, Improved Evasion applies. :-)
As Serithtial strikes the Crown of Fangs, there's a flash of light, and the pool explodes in a blast of gore that is just as quickly consumed by the blinding radiance. When your vision returns, the pool is empty - except for the shattered remains of the crown.
Nice work! All that remains is to clear up the last of Ileosa's allies: a tribe of boggard barbarians (bottom level of the pyramid), a Gargantuan devilfish (water around the pyramid base), and a belier devil (Castle Korvosa). This can be handwaved. The rebellion will successfully conclude shortly after you return to the city. The only thing left to do from a mechanical standpoint is deciding whether or not to draw harrow cards. :-)

Lifting his arm, covering his eyes from the light, Usawoti blinks several times waiting to see if something jumps up at them. After several seconds he breaths a sigh, and sheathes the sword. Smiling at his friend, "I believe we did it."
First, picking up his klar and returning it to its frog, he removes his rucksack. Setting it on the ground, he begins to collect the pieces of the crown and placing them in the pack. As he works he points out, "I have two potions of Gaseous form, Shall we return the way we came, or do we want to wipe out any of her allies before we leave?"
Just some fluff while we decide how to end it :)
| Torsten Runeforger |
Torsten raised a hand to run it through his hair but stopped when he found that he unable to do so, given his new form. He contented himself with a deep sigh as he looked around at the empty pool and the ruined form of the queen. ”Aye, we did it.” He said, watching Usawoti gather the shards. ”We can do a once over of the temple. Make sure there be no danger left. Then it be time to return. And make sure that this crown can’t be used again.”

Clearing the rest of the pyramid is a thoroughly unpleasant experience. The second level is partially flooded, and even the dry areas are clammy and damp. The first floor of the pyramid is completely underwater. Despite this unpleasantness, you manage to defeat the rest of Ileosa's minions: a dozen boggards, a Gargantuan devilfish that tries to eat Usawoti, and an enormous blood ooze that guards a soul-trapping gemstone. During your exploration, you discover an interesting object: a fifteen-foot-diameter crystal globe hanging between two square pillars, connected to them by thousands of glittering crystalline filaments. Inside the sphere is a staggering amount of treasure: coins, gems, art objects, rolled-up tapestries, bars of precious metal, and more. Based on the heraldry and sigils on a few of the items, it's clear that Ieosa thoroughly looted Korvosa's treasury before coming here to begin her vile ritual.
This chamber is on the underwater level, but if you use gaseous form or some other method to get inside the crystal sphere without breaking it, you can gather up all the treasure without causing water damage.

Having continued lower and lower into the swamp infested pyramid, Usawoti joins Torsten in eraticating all of the queens followers therein. Having stripped the queen of her wealth, Usawoti is suprised to find the submerged crystal globe. Gesturing towards the crystal, he laments, "Truly a dragons hoard, a pity we should return it to it's rightful people, the city of Korvosa."
As they find their way into the crystal and start carefully loading the wealth, he lifs the scabbard of keen edges, Drawing Serithtial from the scabbard he'd purchase he sheaths it in the magical scabbard, smiling, "Seems only fitting that the sword gets a reward." Tucking the sword back into his pack, he continues loading the items so they could be transported.
The soul trapping gemstone, can we tell if it is empty or not? Oh, would we be able to tell the 'caster' level on the boots of teleportation? Looks like a good way to get home.
| Torsten Runeforger |
"Aye, ye be right." Torsten said, looking at the hoard before them. He knew that in the past he would have been sorely tempted to take from it, for the sheer amount of wealth was staggering. But it seemed hollow, somehow. As if though it did not matter.
"Take the boots and head back to the city. Show the shards of the crown, as well as this original, as proof of the Queen's demise and tell them about the treasury which she stole. I will stay here and guard it." He did not say it, but he reasoned that he could use the time until Usawoti returned to meditate on all that had happened and what was yet to come.
Usawoti
|
Shaking his head, Usawoti gestures towards the boots, "It's a good idea, but it's your city. You've been with the rebellion since the beginning. They know you, you've earned the right to tell them." He looks around the room, and shrugs, Teleport to town, inform them. Spend a little money for a scroll or something and come back and we'll return together." He smiles at his friend, "Or don't, I know how to get to the Storval Plateau from here."
You started this game, you're not getting out of the ending that easy :)
| Torsten Runeforger |
Torsten took a deep breath. "Fine." He said, with reluctance. "Ye'd be the more heroic face, to be sure. But wait here. I'll be back for ye as soon as I can. If I don't return within two days, then I will find ye back at yer home. I gave me word to inscribe that tattoo on ye, aye? And I a'int one to break me word." He smiled as he gathered up the shards, enough coin to purchase a scroll, as well as the original crown, and then Torsten put the boots on. Finally, he slapped Usawoti's shoulder, and teleported back to the city...
...once there, he made his way directly to Blackjack's hideout. With single minded purpose, he was there to state that the Queen was dead, Usawoti was guarding the stolen treasury of the city, and that a scroll was required to bring him back for the upcoming rebellion.
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
@Usawoti: If you still have a gaseous form potion, it's a perfect way to enter the sphere. Once inside, everything will fit inside the portable hole. Could be a good way to occupy your time while Torsten's gone. ;-)
@Torsten: Once you inform Blackjack, Cressida, and the others, they move quickly. The rebellion has begun! Riots and battle fill the streets as the rebels begin taking back neighborhoods from remaining Ileosan loyalists, Gray Maidens, and other holdouts. With Castle Korvosa standing mostly empty, it should be a quick and mostly bloodless undertaking - especially as you're brought proof that the queen is dead. Of more immediate importance, you're able to take advantage of the initial chaos to return to Castle Korvosa. There were several mages present when you were there last, after all. This hunch pays off, as you're able to find the bloatmage's chambers - and the spellbooks he kept there. Among them is a scroll of greater teleport.
Usawoti
|
chuckling at his friends seemingly reluctance Usawoti adds as they depart. They don't need a heroic face, they need a Korvosan. See you in a couple of days, I'll gather the wealth here so we can return it to the people of the city. They will need it to rebuild." As Torsten teleports away, Usawoti returns to the entrance of the submerged level, drinking one of his potions.
As he moves in gaseous form to the crystal he considers if he might keep an item or two. Entering the crystal he returns to normal form. Sorting items he eventually finds the portable hole, realizing it was the method the queen had used to move everything here in the first place. As he literally shoved riches into the thing, he set aside the items he thought interesting.
Along with keeping the scabbard for the sword, He decided to keep the crystal ball to give to his mentor. Also, he found the pipes of sounding interesting, and decided he may learn to play them for the cold lonely nights out on Plateau. Having placed everything else back in the 'hole' he folds it up and places it in his pocket. Deciding to save his other potion, he takes a deep breath, and using his hammer, breaks the crystal to escape and swim back to upper levels to await Torsten's return.
| Torsten Runeforger |
Rebellion. That is what was echoed through Castle Korvosa. Freedom. That was what rang on the street corners. Mercy. Hatred. Screams of pain. All of it mixed together. Usawoti said that the people did not need a heroic face, that they needed a Korvosan. There was truth in that, as war was never something to be celebrated. After returning to bring Usawoti, and the lost treasury, back, all that was left to do was to join in for the fighting. After all they had been through, Usawoti and Torsten were a force multiplier that any army would want.
Despite Torsten's runes which constantly cleaned him, his hands still were stained red with blood more often than not. The Queen's last loyalists were nowhere near the same stature that she was, nor that of her fallen commanders. Usawoti and Torsten had seen to that, and now there wasn't much left that could stand against them. Not with so much of the city fighting alongside them. Torsten did not smile as he went about his duty. He had, afterall, turned himself into a weapon. He reasoned that it was necessary. It was his life's work. It was what he had sworn to do. It was what had been needed to end the Queen. And what was the purpose of a weapon? It was not to defend. It was not to amass glory. The purpose of a weapon was to kill, and as he stalked through the halls of the castle, and the streets of his home, he engaged himself in exactly that, knowing that he would not stop until the war was over.
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
The rebellion ends only a few days after it begins. Castle Korvosa stands more or less empty. Any surviving Red Mantis assassins retreat to their mysterious island headquarters. The Gray Maidens officially disband as an organization. Cressida Kroft mobilizes the remnants of the Korvosan Guard to reestablish order. Neolandus has his hands full as he takes on the administrative duties necessary to keep the city running. Marcus Endrin begins training new soldiers in preparation for creating a new Sable Company. Sabina Merrin remains in the shadows, working to rehabilitate the women rescued from Deathhead Vault - and any others who seek to turn their lives around. Blackjack is kept busy keeping the criminal underworld from taking advantage of the power vacuum. There is much left to do, but for the first time in a long while, Korvosa is filled with hope.
Usawoti
|
Having taken the time to destroy the 'soul trapping gemstone' with his earthbreaker, Usawoti is ready to return to Korvosa when Torsten arrives with the scroll of greater teleport. Staying near his friend in the final days of the rebellion, Usawoti offered surrender to those who would listen, staying out of the way of Torsten for those who didn't. Fortunately, not as many died as might have.
When the smoke and violence cleared, Uswoti was glad to see some of the folks from the city we're stepping up to lead. Making sure the wealth of the city was placed in safe hands. He also returned most of the magical items but keeping a few for his future endeavors. Hoping the city would continue being ruled by a group of peers instead of a monarchy, Usawoti waited until things settled to speak with his friend.
Gesturing towards the city, "I believe we have achieved what my mentor hoped we would, when he sent me." He pauses, lifting his chin. "It's been the first time in a long time that I've felt of value." He releases a deep breath. "I believe the events that led to the sword Serithtial coming into my hands was not by chance." Resting his hand casually on the swords hilt. "though it views the world very differently than I, I think we together can find and destroy the other six Kazavon's relics scattered across the world. I intend to leave to do that."
He smiles, "Right after you finish the tattoo you promised, and we draw from Zellara Harrow deck." He nods towards where Torsten had stored it, "I'll draw first."
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
Once Usawoti's tattoo is finished (I'll leave the design and placement to you and Torsten), you draw your first card: The Trumpet. As you do, the door to Torsten's shop opens, and an elegantly-armored woman with glowing eyes walks in. She bows courteously before kneeling before you. "Usawoti of the Skoan-Quah, I am Taherah, sent from the halls of Elysium to serve as your squire as you put an end to Kazavon's threat. Through life and death, I will serve faithfully."
Mechanically, you can summon a Ghaele Azata once per day. When summoned, Taherah will follow your commands for up to 17 rounds before returning to Elysium.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you can respond, you notice another card on the floor beside Taherah: The Unicorn. As you stare at it, your mind is filled with thoughts of your wife and son, and how their deaths fall on your shoulders. If you only hadn't left them alone that morning, they would still be alive. Then you realize that you could have stayed with them all those years ago. If you had, how different would your life be now?
Mechanically, you can undo one single decision you made in your past. The fabric of reality is unraveled and respun, potentially restoring creatures to life or altering the course of history, depending on how you acted and how you wish you would have acted. I determine how reality changes to reflect that act. The change primarily affects you, affecting others as little as possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking down, you stare at a card in your hand: The Hidden Truth. Your world just became much more complicated, and while knowing how to proceed would be helpful, you know well that knowledge can be both a gift and a curse.
Mechanically, you can ask the GM to completely answer any one question in-game. Depending on the question, my answer may or may not be helpful, but it's guaranteed to be completely accurate.
Usawoti
|
Torsten, it's your design, what and where is up to you.
Looking from the card as the shop door opens, Usawoti is surprised to see a celestial walk in the shop. About to ask what sort of tattoo she'd be requiring from his friend, the woman speaks. Raising an eyebrow, he pauses, taking a deep breath. "I am honored Taherah, I accept your fealty, I will not abuse it."
Looking from the bright eyed woman, he see's 'The Unicorn' on the floor. His mind flashing to what was and what could have been. As he considers picking up the second card, he looks to the card in his hand realizing it had changed. It was now 'The Hidden Truth' Without pause, not considering his other options, he inquired of the card. "If I bring my wife and son back to life would I still have been sent by Thousand Bones and be standing here in this moment?"

A vision flashes through your head of another path your life may have taken. You decide not to go hunting that day, meaning you're present when the outlaws attack. You defeat them easily but take a wound to your leg that never fully heals. Even Thousand Bones is unable to cure it, explaining that this means it's something called a 'fated injury.' These are caused by the gods in order to awaken a latent power deep inside you. As the wound prevents you from traveling easily, you make a home close to the rest of the Skoan-Quah, and you and your family have a good life - eventually having another child. Your life isn't perfect, though, as your inability to wander the plains for long leaves you feeling somewhat resentful of the other warriors. Thousand Bones trains you to control this anger and only let it out in times of great need. He also tries to teach you shamanism, but it doesn't come naturally for you. Your talents lie in other directions, and you gradually grow into the Quah's greatest warrior. When a tattooed dwarf arrives at your camp, you think it's a great opportunity to test your strength, and when the sparring session ends in a draw, an unlikely friendship begins to form. You assist him as he undergoes various trials to prove himself to the Shoanti and learn their history. When he returns from Castle Scarwall, he stops by your home to tell you of the adventure. A few weeks later, he comes again to ask you to travel with him to an ancient pyramid to fight an enemy that he fears is beyond his ability to defeat alone. While reluctant to leave your family, you know it's only for a short time. You work together to defeat this 'Queen Ileosa' before returning home. What's happening in the tshamek city is troubling, but despite your friendship with Torsten, the fate of Korvosa doesn't affect you, and your family is a higher priority.
Mechanically, your Soul Weaver levels would be replaced with Rage Prophet Barbarian (lame curse; focus on the Enhancement, Protection, and Fate spheres). From a story standpoint, you'd essentially take on the role of Krojun, with an extra 'cameo' or two during Books Five and Six of the campaign.

Next time I make someone with a curse I am going to steal that 'fate injury.'
...prior to drawing the cards, Torsten had inscribed the tattoo upon Usawoti. While he had seen his transformation as being the culmination of his life's work, this too, matched the criteria. For this was proof that his craft could be replicated, and that it did not necessarily have to die with him. The tattoo, when it was finished, covered Usawoti's back. It was not a simple process. Planning it took the best part of a night. It was well known among scholars that ley lines were imperceptible, nearly stationary conduits of raw magical energy. It was said that they could stretch for thousands of miles and were full of ambient magical energy, causing magical effects, thoughts, and phenomena to reality along their paths. The concept of ley lines was central to the tattoo, for Torsten had realized that every living creature had something similar. The use of magic was, after all, a science. What mattered was finding these ley lines within the person. And if they were powerful enough, harnessing them. He knew that a single mistake could prove fatal. To even be allowed to attempt it was evidence of trust which was humbling.
Craft Tattoos on magical tattoo: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (16) + 36 = 52
Tempting fate, second craft tattoos on the mundane one as well: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (15) + 36 = 51
When he was done, the work was nothing short of a masterpiece. It was the kind of artisanship that one could spend a lifetime seeking out. And it had to be, for that was what was required for it to work. The central basis for it were dwarven runes, for that was what he was trained in, and he was not willing to experiment with his friend's life. But when he was done, he went about adding mundane tattoos to it, using the shoanti tattoo on his hand as a basis for it, so that the style of Usawoti's people was merged into it, creating a unifying whole. Only then was he satisfied.

Realizing in an instant how different his life would be if he accepted the 'gift' of 'The Unicorn' card Usawoti considered his choice. Years ago, his people had forgotten and turned their back on guarding the 'Bone crown.' Now he had the choice of doing the same. Returning to a life where he had no knowledge of that responsibility nor the other cursed items. Or finishing the task he'd been given with the sword Serithtial. He longed to see his family again, even the vision of such had almost set him to tears. But he had taken up the mantle of the Skoan-Quah Bone Caster, he must finish what he started, whatever the cost.
Not trusting himself, he turned to Torsten, pointing to the card on the ground. "Friend Torsten, would you pick up that card and return it to the deck for me?" Then he wiped the single tear from his eye.

When Torsten picks up the card, he notices that it's changed to a new one: The Foreign Trader. The peddler on the card animates, stares appraisingly at you, and shouts, "Worthless!" before vanishing in a puff of yellow smoke. The card has transformed into The Fiend. The devil on the card's face shifts into a titanic, armored figure. It points an immense axe at you and roars in fury before vanishing.
Mechanically, the Foreign Trader lets you purchase magic items by trading years of your life. Because you're immortal, you instead redraw. The new card signifies that you've attracted the notice of a Thanatotic Titan - who is now creating plans to destroy you. Interestingly, titan's blood is one of the necessary components for destroying the blood pool.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you return the card to the deck, you see another card sitting beside it: The Keep. This feels appropriate, as you've spent your life turning your body into a bastion of strength. Now that you've perfected your transformation, the natural next step is to do the same to a world.
Mechanically, you gain a personal demiplane that can be molded and shaped according to your desires (as a permanent create demiplane spell). You can enter and leave at will.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you pick up the new card, it transforms as well, becoming The Vision. Images flash through your mind at blinding speed - almost too quickly to process. Two stand out, though.
The first is a brief scene of you sitting at the large table in Zellara's Mark, your parents in the chairs on either side of you. All three of you are focused on some papers on the table: designs and plans for something - although you can't make out what. As far as you can tell, there's no awkwardness between you and them; all seem comfortable in each other's presence - but intensely focused on the task at hand.
The second vision is of yourself in a crypt surrounded by shattered bones. The air doesn't smell like the air on Golarion: you're on another Plane. Your rocky skin is cracked, and one of your eyes is missing. Your angelic helmet has been crushed. A corpse lies at your feet; it's been pulverized as to be unrecognizable. You feel satisfied - but also sad. Your task is finally done, but you have nobody left to tell.
Mechanically, one of these visions is true; the other is false. I'm the only one who knows - or will know.

Three cards turned. Usawoti had drawn one card, and a divine power swore to support his cause. Torsten drew one, and an infernal monster vowed to oppose him. There was balance there. It did not worry him, for he expected their path to be perilous and for great powers to oppose them. And knowing that he would not be alone in this gave him comfort. Together they had overcome much, and this would be no different.
A second card had been drawn. Usawoti had been given the power to shape reality in his image by changing the past. He had turned it down, for he was a Bone Caster. Torsten had been given the power to shape reality in his image by creating his own demiplane. And this power he accepted without a second thought, for he was no shaman, he was no priest, and he was certainly no Bone Caster. He was a craftsman and a practitioner of the arcane. He had broken tradition and gone against his own blood in the pursuit of pushing his knowledge and his ability beyond what any other had done, and this had led to him changing something fundamental about himself. Restraint was not one of his virtues. In time he would shape it and mold it into his image. And he would insist that a way be found for Usawoti to travel to it as well, so that it might be of use in their quest to come.
And finally, just like with Usawoti, he had a vision. His friend had been forced to grapple with a choice that would break most mortal men, and it seemed to have wounded him in a way that Torsten did not have the experience to truly understand. But for the dwarf? He had been given two visions. One was true, and the other was false. The first was a 'happy ending.' It was what he had wanted. It was what he had yearned for. Such family acceptance, working together, feeling harmony? For all of his power, it felt further away than anything he could imagine. He could not see how it was possible. Seeing it left him with a feeling of sadness inside. It was as if his rocky chest led to a well, with the water within being as cold as that of a glacier. He pushed it aside.
But the other vision? That one...oddly enough it was comforting. For already he feared that he would lose himself. That for the moment he had a good friend by his side, and a quest that would take many a year to complete. But after that? How long until the dwarf that was Torsten no longer existed. How long until he went to his demiplane and stayed there, an immortal being, obsessed with the pursuit of perfection? Permanently divorced from Golarion because it would no longer hold any meaning to him? That vision was one of an ending. One where all of his power had been put to a good cause. One that succeeded. He assumed that the vision was that of his death. It was bittersweet, but it was fulfilling. He could live with such a death.
Quietly he picked up Usawoti's card and put it away. He put a hand on the man's shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. "Come." He said. Words felt cheap, at that moment.
