Lotti Qeb |
Marius, you're a spontaneous caster, right? So you don't have to decide at the start of the day how you want to allocate your spell slots.
Konstiantina Mokei |
I think it's more that the module tacitly acknowledges the existence of smuggling tunnels without wanting them explored. So: magistrate in the morning? I think we've covered all the leads?
Raesilia Talbot |
Yeah. The only one left open, i suppose, is requesting an audience with the earl in his mansion to meet the guy and potentially find more info/steal back more stolen artefacts.
...but does it make sense to go there after arresting his henchmen? Maybe we could try visiting the mansion after exposing him, depending on how things turn out for him?
GM Catullus |
I've improvised about as much as I feel comfortable where the module was lacking details, but this is an area not covered at all.
You have indeed covered all the leads. :)
Marius Erallan |
I don't think we're able (or were intended to) bring down Earl Vernisant entirely. I think the scope was probably to thwart his scheme(s) and do a solid for the Iron Gar and incidentally also the chandlery fellow. Whose name I forget.
We've not interacted with the Iron Gar at all though, is that something we should do? Maybe send him a nice note instead, I don't know.
GM Catullus |
Count Vespire's estate is not in Ridonport, but somewhere upriver (or upcanal?) of that. You could certainly send him a note though.
Konstiantina Mokei |
I say we make a bee-line for the magistrate, and catch her as quickly as possible the next morning. With the helm, the testimony of the captured pirates, and the confiscated log book, I think we have a strong case to argue.
Raesilia Talbot |
Yeah, agreed. It's time to go back and discuss everything with the magistrate, including how to best use all the evidence so as to discredit him, if he turns out to be above the law regardless of his many blatant criminal acts.
Konstiantina Mokei |
DM, can we fast forward to the magistrates office in the morning?
GM Catullus |
Will forward you tomorrow, I'm on the road now. I haven't left my house since September and it feels very strange. :)
Konstiantina Mokei |
Safe driving!
Raesilia Talbot |
Ah, just posted to move us along a bit on the exact same moment Cat's post came in. I'll remove mine.
Edit: Removed, though I don't have time to reply in depth on the investigation inquiry until tonight, somewhere. Sorry!
Raesilia Talbot |
Right - constructing post. I imagine what he just said ticks all of us in all the wrong ways, but I suppose I'll make the main check? I'm at diplomacy +16 vs him, and Rose would probably be hotblooded enough to take to the front naturally.
Marius Erallan |
Brooch of Shielding! I have a funny anecdote about one of those from an old campaign. I was playing a Warblade initiator and had been hanging onto a Brooch of Shielding for the last six levels or so since we hadn't found anything better to put into that slot.
We're rocking our way through a dungeon and I kick in a door, only to be confronted by no less than seven banelar nagas! Since I whiffed the initiative check they went first, and all of them cast Magic Missile V and the only reason my character survived 35d4+35 was because of that fully-charged brooch of shielding, which was entirely deplete by something like 120dmg.
Marius Erallan |
Hey all, I'm sure many of you are in a similar situation, but my posting rate is going to be very low from Thursday through Sunday. Should be back to normal starting on Monday though!

Happy holidays everyone! Hope you have an enjoyable end of the year.
I'll give it a couple of days before resuming posting.
Lotti Qeb |
Well, unfortunately Lotti doesn't have skills for much more than trying to Discredit Senators (Task #1). She could also try to handle the Sabotage or Removing Artifacts tasks (#4 or #5) with her Young Reformer trait, but only one of them.
Anybody else have any preferences?
Konstiantina Mokei |
Apologies, been consumed by the holidays, but am now back!
Konstiantina Mokei |
With a Sense Motive of +6, I'd be happy to tackle Pythareus, Okerra, Centimus/Pace, or the first task involving any two members of the senate. Alas that none of them involve any actual diplomacy!
(Incidentally, the Player Reference Sheet is a delight! Kudos on the hard work and how useful it is!)
Raesilia Talbot |
Great tracker, thanks!
Rose can do any desired task. I think she has a +7 check on most of them between all allowed skills. She'd be best on the bluff check as her campaign trait can get that check to +10 once.
Marius Erallan |
I think Marius is a good fit for:
1) keeping tabs on High Strategos Maxillar Pythareus (Stealth +5, Sense Motive +6, Perception +6)
2) Feeling out the loyalties of Duke Centimus and/or Countess Abrielle Pace (Sense Motive +6, Perception +6)
Young Reformer can let me try a few of the others but it's a one-time deal.
Raesilia Talbot |
Did something happen to the task sheet? It seems to be replaced again with the Ridonport mission one. At least, I can't view the task sheet any longer through the links.
Mirann Zalar |
All Mirann's like qualified for is the wine and theft missions.
GM Catullus |
The sheet has multiple tabs, I rearranged them so that the Tasks one is first. Let me know if that fixes it for you.
Raesilia Talbot |
Ah, thanks. I saw it late last night, was initially confused since opening it first led to the gala tasks but opening it later reverted to the ridonport ones. I blame initially missing it on having a huge screen and noy looking down :')
GM Catullus |
You can start claiming tasks on the sheet, or let me know if you would like more details about them. The skills listed are not set in stone, if you have a creative idea of an alternate plan you can use other skills. Or work together in pairs or larger groups to pool your talents. :)
Raesilia Talbot |
By the way, Catallus, how does Martella convey her question to Rose? Is it a whisper? Telepathy?
Konstiantina Mokei |
Are we meant to split up and run multiple simultaneous missions?
Also, the sheet is view only. I'll take on Okerra and Centimus/Pace.
GM Catullus |
Fixed the permissions on the sheet. Yes, the missions are meant to be individual, although of course you can team up for some if you run into difficulty.
Aside from the missions, almost every room in the Senate building can be influenced by performing a variety of actions (depending on the relevant skills), granting you bonuses and benefits. The skills for influencing a room are also in the sheet.
The entire event will be split into social rounds, during a round you can make a discovery check for a mission NPC (to uncover which skills you can use to influence them, or discover a weakness that would give you a bonus to the influence check), attempt to influence an NPC, or attempt to influence a room.

Only during the Gala, although your prior research may give you some hints.
Raesilia Talbot |
I think i might have messed up on the last few posts, I was under the assumption that the list handed to us also contained the tasks we were supposed to do. Apologies. In my defense, it made sense to me that the party would receive the tasks alongside the tracker with objectives we've been discussing here ooc.
GM Catullus |
Martella is careful to not have anything potentially compromising written down, but I can see how it can be confusing with the tracker. No worries, that was a good IC save!
Konstiantina Mokei |
So to be clear, these missions are not meant to be performed before the gala, but at the gala, correct? Don't know why I had it in my head that this was all prep work for the main event itself.
GM Catullus |
Yes, these are missions for at the gala.
GM Catullus |
Regarding outfits and such, I'm posting here the most relevant bits from the discussion with Rose.
You can get either a Courtier's Outfit or a Noble Outfit - mechanically there is no difference and you can afford either. Or even both, thanks to Rose being able to craft them and the associated reduced cost.
The item descriptions for both mention "jewelry", but the expectation is not for you to spend money on buying it. Instead, you can use good quality costume jewelry (15-25 gp). Although if you want to buy real jewelry to go with your outfits, there will be opportunities in the future to show that off. :)
Some other suggestions:
- Fashionable Accessories for Oppara, can be part of the Thread Rare credit
- Perfume kit (not available through Martella's credit line) - 40 gp, 10 uses, +1 to Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Handle Animal, Intimidate or Perform checks (you need to select one)
Marius Erallan |
Marius was considering a Sleeve of Many Garments if that would work? Not to put Rose out of work or anything :p
Also my laptop's battery has been acting up so I'm taking it to get replaced on Monday. I should still be able to update my games but the guy at the shop estimated anywhere from a few hours to a few days so I might be slow for a bit there. I'll keep you all updated!
Raesilia Talbot |
Well yeah, if that works i guess we could all buy one and never have to worry about outfits again. (Though why tailoring shops cathering to high society exist in a setting with those being a thing is a bit beyond me...)
GM Catullus |
That would certainly work, and would have long-term use.
Mirann Zalar |
I'd like to get Dancer's Garb if possible. I have an outfit in mind, I can PM it to Rose if she wants to write its appearance, otherwise I will gladly do so
Konstiantina Mokei |
Put me down for a Sleeve of Many Garments as well.
Marius Erallan |
(Though why tailoring shops cathering to high society exist in a setting with those being a thing is a bit beyond me...)
Conspicuous consumption, of course! ;)
Raesilia Talbot |
Rose wrote:(Though why tailoring shops cathering to high society exist in a setting with those being a thing is a bit beyond me...)Conspicuous consumption, of course! ;)
Fair point :) If they're not already selling those sleeves themselves, which is a pretty high probablity, actually!
Raesilia Talbot |
@Mirann I'm fine either way. Do you want a revealing or a conservative outfit and what sort of colour or fashion motive do you have in mind?
Shall I take the sleeves of many garments to the meeting for whoever bought them, under the assumption the Thread Rare sells them so that your lines of credit can be used?
Konstiantina Mokei |
Excellent, thank you.
