That would be awesome Igar, I'd love to start Wulfgar from the beginning.

There are lots of folks itching for this AP. While I am coming in as a replacement, I've pretty much caught up with everything, and it's a doozy. I would suggest those who can make the commitment, resubmit if Igar does do a second table.

I'm thinking of starting to prep it myself after my WoTR game gets started.

Robert Henry, you were chosen by the players so you are in if I do a second table.

Could you head up the party makeup and selection of players? I could begin a discussion there and leave recruitment here. I would suspect the other players may want to do different builds as it is a completely different party.

Grand Lodge

I know that Geometer would love to play a kineticist, as he's starting to get back into table top again, though I don't know if he would want to change classes or not.

I would love to, could I request Farod Shamar? I played in a game with MordredofFairy years ago and would like to again.

Would you explain some of your expectations again? I know that you're playing this game straight and will not 'rescue' players from bad decisions.

Would you want to use the same 'build' rules as this game? It seemed like any race or class was ok. I'm fine with that, but if I'm selecting; any race, race traits, character traits and archetypes would need to match up with the backstory and with each other. I would base my decisions on continuity of character, posting rate and quality of the player and party needs. If your good with that, I'd be happy to give it a try.

Awesome, Mister Henry. Farod is fine unless he is chosen for the first table. That would become unfun imo. Same build rules. Anything Paizo and no third party. That is exactly how I have chosen players in the past.

I am leaning toward doing this, but it is a commitment that cannot be undone. You may have your answer in a day or two.

Never mind, I reread it, and it says clearly that the domains are changed.

(Zwordsman. changed name slightly).
It makes sense. I'm still going to finish up this character (starting gold + Eidolon. Everything else is already loaded up) as I am invested in the idea currently.
Spell Carts and Aid Another usage sounds fun. Its all the shards of his soul he uses as weapons and manifestations

I'm still interested in either version if it comes down to needing players still. In both cases I'd likely be the same character. Albiet if starting at lv 1 probably will not multiclass and get profiency etc alternately.

So, this PC of mine is in Book 2 of the AP with a great group that lost our GM a few months back. I think all the players are still around but are hesitant about posting blindly for a replacement GM. If you are really willing to run this, would you consider an existing group?

It'll be another month or so, but I'll start reading up on everything, and getting maps and whatnot set up. I don't mind running two games of the same AP at once. Just need to get the rust off my GMing gears, lol. Shoot me a DM with everyone and the link to the game so I can start reading where everyone is while I start the preparation process.

OK, possible table to so far is

Already chosen if I understand correctly:
Robert Henry/Wulfgar Bloodrager looksing to go into Oracle.
In my assessment Frontliner, likely an atleast secondary if not primary face (Bloodragers make pretty solid faces)

Mordred of Fairy/FarodShamar wizard with some rouge
Seems like peak utility, main skill monkey

--Hopefulls:

Mightypeon/ Ardran currently Fanglord Bloodrager with a spiritualist dip for a sneaky phantom.
I think I will rebuild him into Human Spell warrior/Fractured mind 1. Should be far more synergistic with the selection, and I always wanted to see if counterspelling works in practice.

Shadow fox/Ionemeh Dawnstar

Zwordsman/Malis Zell Unchained summoner

Albion the eye/Ehrien Elf Evoker

Edit: Thats fun, as far as I see, wulfgar can have his own celestial rage, and then get Ardrans raging song on top from another totem.

If this one goes forward, I would most likely change my submission, since most Arcane will probably be handled by FarodShamar ;)

And I would not go as far as saying that the group is already selected (I know Robert Henry will be thorough with it), but looking at the submitted characters I think most bases are pretty well covered for this potential second Igar table.

From my part, I might be interested in playing a healer/2nd line combatant Oradin. Hard to beat Dawnstar though. Dang! That is a strong healer :P

If there is a second table here's my submission. I still have to pick my equipment and write a backstory but the crunch is done.

Seems there is no place for a healer in these tables :(

Huh. Pact Wizard. I've never seen that one. Neat.

Surprisingly many folks want to be a healer or healer adjacent. Although that makes sense with the undead theme~

Unchained is pretty fun. A lot of play with team work feat shenanigans. I'm going to keep refining the ideas on the character even if I'm relatively unlikely to be chosen. It sounds pretty fun~

For what its worth. Neither melee or ranged are important to my character concept. Edi can rock melee, 15ft reach w/ Sarissa, or ranged. Double Ranged or Sarissa and Ranged are the two combo I like. Eidolon wasn't intending to be a meat face. Arguably it would be interesting to make a skill leaning one if need be as disposable physical skills or trapper is a funny idea~ Summoner is a class I never really looked at until I found an archetype removing the sla one

Hi.

In case a game from scratch is finally launched, I have an application here:

Uriah, Half-Orc Warpriest (Molthuni Battle Chaplain)

Background:

In Molthune, you live for the country or you don’t live at all. Coming from a disfuncional and poor family, being a half-orc and having no education, young Uriah understood his best bet was to enter the army and secure his future. He turned out to be a competent soldier and a devout believer, joining the ranks of the Battle Chaplains. Unfortunately, his faith in the tenets of Iomedae didn't quite fit the expansionist policies of his country nor their bullying methods.

He was captured during a small frontier skirmish by Last Wall troops. His officers were not too keen on bringing the prisoner back, so he had to make do with being a hostage in enemy land. Eventually, he found that Lastmen had an approach to morality closer to his than his fellow countrymen, and he got used to it enough that he felt he was no longer a prisoner. His interest in helping people soon granted him the appreciation of the local folks, and he learned about the Whispering Tyrant and got himself involved.

He participated - though marginally - in some of the events that led to the hunt of the Red Reaver in Roslar's Coffer, assigned as he was to the local militia, and has been stationed there till today. He's glad that he's being useful in improving people's lives and serving his Goddess, though he'd love to see more direct action.

Of course, he's still officially a prisoner, so he doesn't depend on himself. He feels good and loved among the Lastmen, but he's not sure about the consequences of an official defection, and doesn't want to think what would happen if war broke out between the two countries.

Uriah is a kind guy, nice but direct as most half-orcs. His mixed origin always brought him problems back in Molthune, but that's not the case here. Not even being a foreigner seems problematic. Actually, he's happy that his biggest social impediment is his physical aspect - he's quite ugly, but at least that's not based on race or morals, just a first impression. Those who get to know him find a good heart, always ready to help and put his physical prowess at the service of the community. He can be usually seen with his bow, a weapon that he's learned to appreciate and love - he actively seeks and devours all kinds of lore about the matter. To him, the arrow knows the way; you only have to show it when you release it - and yes, he learned that phrase from a Tian book on archery he read once.

The crunch is done, but I need to give it the proper formatting for the forums. I can have it ready for tomorrow, but I guess I'll wait till we know whether this is going forward.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

I was interested in this, but decided not to submit because this is one AP I want to run entirely from the start. If there is a possibility of another table, though, I'll just put a potential character out there into the world: Who doesn't love a depressed gravedigging bard?

I'll keep an eye open in case another recruitment thread gets formed when/if a second game is official and repost there, if needed.

Nice character concept.

Just a note concerning my submission (to either).
I opted out of spell cartridges and instead leaned into his character theme of fractured souls and using that. Eidolon is a shattered soul shade of Malik (Twinned Soul Bound Eidolon isn't summoned its part of the caster instead)
Leaning into Mage Hand w/ Magic Trick. Using it to provide Aid Another bonuses at a distance, and maybe down the line Dirty Tricks. Along with a sling probably. Down the line maybe a repeating hand xbow.
Eidolon will rock a Hornbow (composite) for ranged damage. Or can put it down and use Slam and Claws if it needs to gap fill melee. Ranged Aid Another can be pretty neat~ Although can't provide bonus to hit for the Eidolon's bow. Can boost the front line's AC or To Hit in general. Which is pretty neat. And has an interesting combination with combat reflexes.

Quite a bit of interest for this AP. I would make a submission but it seems it's too late for this table at least.

Oh, excellent, thanks for taking the leap into another game, Igar!

So, pitching my character a little more in detail, I can go either way with Aariq. He could be a backup melee guy, if needed, or an archer. I'm currently playing a (very different personality) archer bard in another game, so I'd kind of like to do a different job here, but I'd be open to just repeating the archer feats I've grown to know so well if the group is well-studded with beefy brawly folks. Of course, his main thing would be buffing and debuffing (and being a Dirge Bard, would be able to get some of that mind-affecting debuffing in on any undead that might cross our paths.)

Dark Archive

I am interested. I will look at what might be a good fit for the module.

Rebuilding Ardran into spell warrior/fractured mind. He will wake up confused because his phantom, and his spiritualist abilities, are not there at level 1, but I think this is totally reasonable plot wise.

What he brings to the table:

--Reasonable second line combatant, but not very sturdy hp wise, will get shield spell at level 3, so his AC will actually be pretty reasonable for 2 fights per day.
--Hands out +1 boni to other peoples, or his own, weapons, these can, if a weapon is already a +1, also be used to add weapon properties such as keen or ghost touch.
--Can actually hand out AC, kind of, by adding the defending ability to peoples weapons, and then letting them use the weapons enchancement bonus to add to ac instead, kind of niche though.
--Has relatively reasonable stealth, his phantom meanwhile has actually good stealth.
--Is a Skald, and has bardic knowledge, as well as versatile performance
--will get a rage power to hand out at character level 4, elemental or celestial blood look cool. Normally spirit totem is the strongest, but not in module full of undead.

@GM rules question concerning Skill foci and versatily performance. Adran would get skill focus Diplomacy and sense motive from his dedication phantom, if its inside him. Would these apply to diplomacy and sense motive checks using perform oratory via versatile performance?
It is not a big deal if no, i would pick a different phantom type in that case.

Fantastic another table, I've got a paladin in mind for this :)

After munchkinning a budget phantom a bit, I think I got a reasonable idea on how to use it as a reasonably dodge and damaging combatant, although its nowwhere near an Eidolon.

Looking forward to hopefully getting to play it.

Phantom optimizing:

So, I initially only want to commit one dip and a feat into it.
Here is the maximum I can manage, I think, with only my own resources, at level 3 (when I take the dip)

Veronika, hatred phantom.

Weapon finesse (free)
Piranha strike
Weapon focus (Slams)

Level 3:
3 HD
AC= 10+2(base)+2(armor improval)+2(dex) +4 (mage armor) +4 (shield spell, I can cast it on her because share spell class ability)=22
Offense: 3(bab)+2(dex)+2(hated target)+1(weapon focus slams) -1(piranha strike) +1 (enchancement from spell warrior song)=+8/+6 without hated target, damage=d6+1(hated target) +1(enchancement) +2 (piranha strike) =d6+4/+3 wihout hated target

Thanks for the opportunity to play 'Tyrant's Grasp' Igar! As someone who's not a GM, this may be more daunting than I expected. Igar's original game was by invitation, here is the original 'build description.'

Igar The Terrible wrote:

Pathfinder Adventure Path - The Dead Roads - Tyrant's Grasp

Theme: Survival Horror
The overall theme of Tyrant’s Grasp is survival horror. The player characters will often find themselves in desperate circumstances with limited resources, particularly during the first few adventures. Terrible tragedies are destined to occur as the events of Tyrant’s Grasp unfold; often, your objective isn’t to prevent these disasters, but to survive them and to display heroism and resourcefulness in their wake. Circumstances will compel the player characters to leave Roslar’s Coffer much sooner than you might expect, so characters prepared to travel across Lastwall and beyond are the best fit for this Adventure Path. This path is about survival and horror. This is about your ability to survive the module as written. Your GM will do his best to present the horror when appropriate and will not pull any punches to ensure your survival.

Seems like I read that gunslingers will have a hard time with the lack of merchants in this module. It was either in the players guide or buried in the errata of the module pdf.

I hope to stay out of character creation as much as possible as this is a critical part of the game for the players.

While building characters lets try and stick to these guidelines, if you have questions about builds, look towards the characters in the original game and see if they have/display what you're looking for. For instance, none of the original characters have background skills, we will not either. But it does seem that all pathfinder races and classes are aloud.

Let me move to my selection process. I posted earlier

Robert Henry wrote:
...if I'm selecting; any race, race traits, character traits and archetypes would need to match up with the backstory and with each other. I would base my decisions on continuity of character, posting rate and quality of the player and party needs...

I intend to stick to those ideas when selecting characters. Does your background/race traits/archetype match up with the AP trait you select, most of which note a history with the town and an event that happened years before.

Also, to be entirely transparent, I like 'covering all the bases' we will have four players/characters. Wulfgar is a Male Aasimar Bloodrager, (primalist/steelblood)with the Celestial Bloodline (I know, not the most efficient but it is what it is. I'll get him posted once I've altered his backstory to fit Roslar’s Coffer) He will be taking the 'Optimist trait." In the recruitment thread and PM's I was actively campaigning for MordredofFairy's Farod Shamar Since the players in the first game selected Damien the 'White Necromancer' as there arcanist, I will be selecting Farod, as the second member of the team. We are clearly looking for a divine caster and a fourth to add balance. I'm trying not to have too much of a preconcieved idea.

Many of us who were applying were holding off on our backstories until we learned how we would integrate with the present party. That has become irrelevant. Once backstories are done please repost your idea. I will be looking at the character build both in how it fits with Wulfgar and Farod and how well the characters crunch and fluff fit each other. I don't expect a 'long' backstory since they are first level characters just starting on their 'Hero's Journey' but I do expect a cohesive one. It probably goes without saying that the more 'exotic' the character the better the backstory should be tied to the AP. So a Nagaji Ranger (Sable Company Marine) applicant's backstory should read like a New York Times Best Seller

Lastly I'll be looking at players posting history, both the quantity and quality of posts. I believe we are looking for players who post at minimum of once a day and more would be helpful. The obvious question is 'how soon am I deciding?' The simple answer is soon, I'll read what's posted here (after I go post in games) to ask questions and make comments. I will give a '24 hr notice' in the recruitment then, then post the next two people.

MoF, Get your backstory done and post in discussion. Everyone else, as I said, I'll be reading what's posted already, please feel free to ask any questions. Again
Igar The Terrible thank you for being willing to run a second table, I hope we do not disapoint you.

Yeah... I think... I will actually go on with the one I had in mind to begin with. After all, it is what I want to play, and given your selection criteria I'm probably out or in no matter class selection.

So yeah. I'll try to give it some life that can gather your attention.

For the record: Imma do a ranged Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain. It contributes with dps and (a bit) of divine support.

Oh, thats fun, one of the campaign traits increases aid another, and it is untyped so it stacks with helpful!
Meaning Ardran can aid another for +4, pretty neat.

Revised Ardran has:
--a +4 AC Aura for people next to him, due to bodyguard
--Eventually a really good willsave, currently its mediocre, when his dip into fractured mind happens and he picks up force of personality later on
--A summon that will be a useful combatant at low levels, and a useful scout later on.
--Backup healing. He does have CLW and grease right now. He will get spell kenning
--I plot to put 1 value skill rank in all knowledge skills, effectively boosting our main lore monkey by +4 in all of his. His main skills would be spellcraft, stealth, perception and whatever face skill we are missing.

He has a reasonably complicated personality, being in game terms an excellent bodyguard serving a deity of assassination, incredibly helpfull but also very paranoid.

He and Wulfgar are both Kellids I believe? I doubt they would know each other, but some distrust is definitly to be overcome there :).

GM is VMC allowed?

I present Sobok, the non-judgmental Inquisitor as Malinor's submission.

General Background:
Twelve years ago the village of Roslar’s Coffer was destroyed by rampaging orcs. A young half-orc grew up on the outskirts of town where his parents were local farmers. When the rampaging orcs came pouring in his parents were slaughtered, but the young half-orc was recognized as having the blood of the local orcs.
Desiring to keep up their numbers, they took the young half-orc along with several others to force them to join with their forces as they grew older. They started calling the young half orc Sobok and treated him harshly if he showed any signs of the soft humans that had been around him as a child. He and the other children were put through harsh ceremonies to scare them and bring them into the tribe. Sobok had trouble recognizing himself after a while as the swirling tattoos that covered him and tied him to his new “family” altered his appearance in the dank waters around the orc settlement.

In response to the attack on Roslar’s Coffer, knights were sent to push back the orcs and prevent them from continuing their attacks. Fate favored Sobok, and while he was still a youngster forced to run beside the warriors and serve them on the road, the band was attacked and all but Sobok were slain. Seeing an unarmed youth among an obvious warband, the knights captured him instead of killing him. Sobok had trouble speaking the human tongue after spending several years among the orcs, but he managed to get out that he was enslaved at Roslar’s Coffer. One of the knights was a warpriest of Pharasma who brought Sobok back to civilization where he was put in as an orphan in one of the small shrines to Pharasma that tended to those who died along the borderlands.

Sobok learned much within the church of Pharasma and swore himself to her service. He learned much and was declared an inquisitor of the church, but unlike many he did not judge those who he sought out. He had been judged by too many for his tattoos and dark history. Sobok decided it was time to reclaim his past and returned to the rebuilt Roslar’s Coffer seeking to reclaim what was lost in the terrible orc attack and prevent the loss that he suffered from happening to others.

What does Sobok Bring?:

Sobok brings a lot of utility to the team. He has survival skills that he picked up with the orcs and will soon learn to track. He has a lot of knowledge skills and can be a big boon at identifying potential dangers the group might encounter.

He also makes a good fighter to aid the party in combat and brings spells and healing to help the party out.

His Sin Eating ability also can help by preventing corpses from rising as new undead.

ninja'd by FangDragon, was going to ask the same question
Ninja'd by Malinor. as well :)

OK, we have twelve applicants to cover two spots. Let's cut off recruitment here and work out a few things with these folks, before we make any decisions.

"In order of appearance"
Shadow_Fox: Ionemeh Aasimar Cleric: Trait: none, Background: None
Gemeter: flame Kineticist
Mightypion: Ardran Skald (spell Warrior) Trait: The Outsider -background: (dimdweller) story instead of history,

Malinor.: Sobok. Male Half Orc Inquisitor of Pharasma [Sanctified Slayer/Sin Eater] 1, Trait: The Reclaimer, Background: from Roslar’s Coffer, taken prisoner and freed.
FangDragon: paladin in mind

If I've forgotten anyone, or gotten any info wrong I apologize, please let me know and I will fix it.

Observations:
Shadow_Fox, I'd like to see what AP trait you select and how it ties into her backstory.

Mightypion, I like what you've done with Adran and Veronika, I'll confess I'm nervous about the seven in wisdom. The vignettes were nice, but they don't tell me why a Kellid from Sarloris would be a dimdweller The Blood of Shadows advertisement says: Embrace the shadows! Whether from the subterranean wilds of the Darklands or otherworldly realms of absolute shadow, heroes can rise from the darkest places. Oh, and Wulfgar was born and raised in Roslar’s Coffer, his mother was from there and his father was a mercenary from 'the Land of the Linorm Kings.' so half-Ulfen?

Zwardsman, your backstory is interesting and I could see it fitting into a 'Rlsar's Coffer' entrance, but as far as I can tell Aesocar was worshiped in ancient Azlant, not in the present.

Jereru, we need an AP trait with the crunch for Uriah

Albion, The Eye and Turing Starfall, I'd like to see a backstory.

Gemeter, and FangDragon your names are on the list, we've got a couple of day, but I'll need something soon.

Recruitment is now closed to any new applicants

So most everything currently on my character sheet would be flexible depending on final party composition and needs. Skills, particularly, are malleable at this stage. Longterm, I imagine I'd let Bardic Knowledge do most of the heavy lifting for the Knowledge skills, and just spread my actual ranks around so that I have a few points in most/all of the Knowledge subsets. Aariq could be a face character, but given how incredibly depressing he is to be around, I'm not sure that would fit thematically; again, that would depend on other party members and their ability to diplomize. I could divest myself of the physical skills I was playing around with (climb/swim) and pick up a couple useful dungeoning skills, like Disable Device. No trapfinding per se, but Aram Zey's Focus is on my spell list and I could start making use of that once I get level 2 spells. Or just get a wand of it.

Posting-wise, I guarantee that won't be a problem. I'm currently in only one other PbP and the pace is a little bit treacly, so doing daily or more posts wouldn't be a challenge. Time wise, I'm in the eastern US, but have a late schedule, so usually would be most board active between 10 PM and 2 AM.

EDIT: Oh, I suppose the question of whether VMC is acceptable or not is very relevant to me as well. If it isn't, I might just go with the Eldritch Heritage feat chain for the same effect, even if that means I have to bite the bullet on Skill Focus: Perform (oratory).

Igar The Terrible

My submission:

Here is a submission of a game I DM'd, to give examples of how I roleplay.

I would like to submit Korihor. She is a Transmuter (or another wizard of some sort, still trying to nail down the theme, but I am leaning towards a corrupted Transmuter if I can find the right Archetypes) from Galt. She despises her own country and sees LastWall as a way to enact some sense of reason onto the world's chaos and achieve renown. She is self-taught in her magic, which she is proud of. She mocks "schooled" wizards.

"Korihor's honey eyes are soft and warm and stark against her bronze skin. Her dark brown dreadlocks grace her shoulders. She has a noble posture, almost challenging. An open brand of an upside-down tree runs down her neck, spreading across her shoulders. It's actually not one tattoo or brand, but hundreds of tiny magical sigil tattoos, forming the image of a tree, red, cracking and bleeding."

"Her twin sister was taken from the orphanage they lived in at the age of 11. Korihor has always dreamed that Ceilidh is off somewhere, living the good life. This often turns dark and bitter for her."

Korihor is NE, which I roleplay like this: Laws are useless if they are in my way. If they benefit me, they are useful.

"I'm going to get mine. I won't tell you what you can and can't do, do not tell me what I can and can't do."

Being evil does not mean killing innocents or fighting the party. She will absolutely help, fight, and do all of those things. But she is motivated by self-interest more than heroism. She'll save the people because she is betting she'll get something from it. If Evil is not okay, she can be CG, without a problem.

She is a character who lacks patience when people are second-guessing, being "too safe", or quibbling about collateral damage. Break some eggs!

She can be cutting in her sarcasm, which is a defense mechanism meant to keep others at bay and keep herself from getting hurt. Her main motivation is finding safety through power and money, so that others may not harm her.

Okay, first let's give a try at the wealth roll:

5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 2, 6) = 19

Fine. I can now finish the character.

About the AP trait, I'm torn between The Lawbringer and The Reclaimer. The Lawbringer won't give any mechanic benefit, but it's easy to explain since the character has spent 12 years in the militia. I'll tell you in a pair of hours...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Added a history.

He does stack 2 good wisdom saving throw classes, and will pick up force of personality at level 5ish.
His mechanical saving throw progression is:
Level 1:0
Level 2:1
Level 3:3 (effective 7 if the phantom is inside)
Level 4:3
Level 5:10 (here I plot to pick up force of personality, an effective +6 to will saves because his CHA bonus is 6 higher then his will), so, he will go on a wonderful journey from lowest willsave in the party to probably highest.

I am not fully certain on the exact type of phantom. Either dedication or hatred would work, she will still be quite social to anyone she does not deem a target as a hatred phantom. She regards herself as a true professional after all.

history:

From: A history of the worldwound

The worldwound invasion took the defending Sarkorian forces completely by surprise, with a vast majority of their tribes being defeated in detail by Demonic shock troops employing their vast advantadge in mobility. Centers of initial resistance such as Gundron where avoided, while Deskaris host focused on crushing individual Sarkorian forces before they could assemble. This strategy sadly proved high effective, and, especially after the fatal attempt of a counter charge into the worldwound at Iz, Sarkorian command was unable to form their armies into anything akin to a coherent whole.

Using stealth rather then direct marching, a grouping of tribes in the extreme north of Sarkoris did manage to assmelbe in silence, and succesfully ambushed a Deskarite strike force by luring them to attack an "Assembly point", moving almost exclusively at night, and apparently suddenly blessed with dark vision, these troops did manage to delay and annoy the swarm considerably, forcing it to direct sizeable forces northwards and giving time for a response from other lands, which eventually resulted in the emergence of Mendev.

The Demons eventually cornered the Sarkorian Guerillias, and drove them into an entry towards the darklands. Soon, the Deskarites clashed with both retreating Kellids, and also Duergar hosts rapidly marshalled to prevent the worldwounds expansion into the darklands.
The Kellids were eventually caught between Duergar and Demon, and then they did something unusual. Interplanar diplomacy.
Having been quite well informed of Abyssal politics from interrogating captives, Kellid Leadership declared itself the "Shadowsworn tribe", and publically pronounced their allegiance to the Lady in Shadow, who formally accepted them as vasalls. Their leaders may or may not have been Nocticula cultists for a long time beforehand, but must observers agreed that the rank and file almost certain werent. The severity of the situation caused most to accept this unusual development.

Incidentally, this solved a major problem for the Duergar, as the Kellid remnants would be a usefull buffer between them and the Demons, as well as for the Demons, who by know had come to know the Duergar as extremely ruthless and exceedingly well organized adversaries. A buffer at the gate to the darklands would allow the swarm to focus on softer targets and grow.

Cut off from the rest of Sarkoris, the Shadowsworn have maintained their existence at the border between the worldwound proper and the darklands, occassionally raiding their neighbours while also hiring themselfs out as interplanar mercenaries. They still speak the same language as the rest of Sarkoris, but do so with Abyssal and undercommon loanwords.

Nocticula demands that the leadership must worship her, and outlaws worship of Qlippoths, Rovagug, Socothbenoth and Koschtschie, but otherwise her clergy is quite religiously tolerant. There is even a shrine to Saernrae in the subterran capital.

The shadowsworn did spring into action as their Lady all but allied with the 5th crusade, following events at Coliphyr, often effectively coordinating with Mendevian and mainstream Kellid troops, and wreaking sizeable havoc on their Deskarite adversaries.

Following the worldwounds defeat, relations between mainstream Kellids and the shadowsworn are strained. They are still recognicably Kellid, and have not yet engaged in acts of aggression, but many traditionalist await the inevitable betrayal.

Also, phantom now has some background things, during combat/scouting she is entirely professional, during relaxation, she is flirting, mildly mischevious, and spreading rumors that Ardran always wanted to be a Ballet dancer. Friendliest hatred Phantom you will ever find.

Ardran meanwhile is uhmm, romantically challenged.

A Campfire:

Ask Soldier Veronika asked the Roslaran soldier, named Cydric, who had drawn sentry duty with Ardran.
OK, so, exactly what are you? The soldier asked.
Clearly, I am Adrans long repressed desire to become a Ballet dancer,
driven by fury over being rejected for being too large.
She answered, utterly deadpan.
Ballet? Isnt that, high society stuff? I thought you shadowsworn lived in a cave in the arse end of Sarkoris? The soldier enquired.

Not incorrect but well, we do occassionally frequent a nearby Duergar city, and our arrangements with the Lady in Shadows award us with a degree of access to Alyushinyrra. And you better bet that they have an excellent Ballet ensemble. She spoke, smiling gently.
Alyushiwhat? th soldier enquired
Nocticula's capital in the Abyss? Population about 3 million, although there is so much f#*&ing and so much killing that nobody truely knows. Veronika answered, quite patiently
And that would be like, a business trip destination for you guys?
THe soldier kept asking
Not for Ardran, he is pretty attractive and relatively weak willed, he would get omnomnomed. Needs to grow a fair bit to plausibly survive there. She replied, utterly conversationally.
Are you pulling my leg mrs. Shadowy Lady? The soldier spoke.
Am I? She answered as she indeed pulled the soldiers legs, extending the ecoplasm around his left foot and pulling jokingly.
To the surprise of the soldier, the ectoplasm felt silky, almost pleseant.
Who knows Veronika stated with a mesmerizing but unreadable smile.

About the AP trait, I'm torn between The Lawbringer and The Reclaimer. The Lawbringer won't give any mechanic benefit, but it's easy to explain since the character has spent 12 years in the militia. I'll tell you in a pair of hours...

I understand completely, I went with 'the optimist' for Wulfgar because of his personality not because of the benefit.

As for which one, I'll try to make sure they don't overlap. So, don't have the same AP trait as Wulfgar or Farod, or the other person you think will make it in :)

Ardan, thanks for the information under history.

Hey Robert, I am withdrawing my application. Good luck with the Recruitment!

Right, so here's Nioku.

I know, it was Uriah, but then I remembered one of my favourite heroes of all time, coming from the Earthdawn RPG, and changed it all over.

Still the same - Half orc ranged Warpriest, special member of the local militia with the Lawbringer trait.

I know Warpriest don't pack much in a 4-man game - they lack skills, their divine casting is secondary and focused towards self buffs, not very tanky, not very anything. What can I say? I love the character and that was the perfect game for her. I promise with a few more levels she can deal tremendous damage, and we'll work towards balancing her weak points a bit.

About me, well, I won't say anything, because I might unintentionaly lie. I'm sure you have your methods, so you're encouraged to go check. If you don't like what you see, we'll give you your money back :)

As a note, until accepted I tend to post with my main account. You cannot delete user versions. I don't want to solidfy a slot with a character unless I'm in for the long run (or its a character I use frequently versions of)

Zwardsman, your backstory is interesting and I could see it fitting into a 'Rlsar's Coffer' entrance, but as far as I can tell Aesocar was worshiped in ancient Azlant, not in the present.

Yeah. Originally the aesocar was related to the book. but I switched stuff a bit when I was going to join it mid way. I don't play core setting Pathfinder much though so plum forgot about the Eras so to speak. Would likely just remove that reference.

malik lv 1 update info notes:

I'm adapting to a level 1 version. So dropping stuff like the Spell Cartridge and leaning into the Magic Trick Mage Hand stuff was a dabble before not a focus. Does bring up the the campaign trait being similiar to another posters. I don't actually see an issue with that msyelf as Outsider is of all campaign traits the one that makes sense for diverse backgrounds. (also not a lot of traits in general). Additionally they and Malik would be using aid another rather differently. One looks to be body guard related while Malik's is at a distance. Granted they won't aid another each other well. Which is amusing for all the bonuses.

I have two versions of the Eidolon (Shade the Sharded soul. Aka Shade or Shard he's fine with either). One uses Reach melee (Sarissa 15ft cone) the other uses Long bow or Orc Horn Bow for range attacks.
Which one depends abit on the group.

Malik combat wise, so far is either improvised weapon w/ torch and sling rocks (ammo draw speed). or could use a pellet xbow. Former being more interesting and fitting his past. Also comes with more accuracy boosters available as summoners do not have much accuracy. He's going to stay fairly far away but limited choice other than Sling or Crossbow. Although sling focus isn't a terrible idea. Will just need to figure out which is better for who Malik is.

Either case I'll switch out the info on the character profile and finalize tonight after holiday festivities.

Oh, I hadn't realized Jereru was going for something similar-ish (a divine martial with Lawbringer). At least Torrin is firmly melee orientated rather than ranged.

I also seem to have written a small novella (sorry about the length).

An excerpt from Torrin’s personal journal, dated several years ago:

I have made peace with the fact I shall never know who my parents are. I was too young to remember it but I was found on the edge of the Northern Fangwood by a group of crusaders on patrol from Vgil. The story goes that at first they thought they were dealing with a boar, snuffling in the undergrowth. Spears were called for and they cautiously approached, ready for a fight. To their great surprise they found me, all by my own, contentedly eating berries. They tried to ask if I was lost and where my parents were, but I stared at them with mute wonder. I didn’t speak a word, nor did I for many years, I was never the fastest thinker but I always got there in the end.

The leader of the patrol was Second Sword Obadiah Jenkins, an older devout follower of Iomedae. Obadiah was a man of unyielding principle yet at the same time he was incredibly patient and generous of spirit. He took my appearance as a sign of Iomadae’s favor and took me under his wing. I couldn’t say if The Inheritor’s hand was truly at play that day, but I seemed to plug a hole that was missing in Obadiah’s heart. Years before he’d had a family of his own, but they like many others had been torn to shreds and eaten by a nest of ghouls.

He raised me as if I was his own son and in every way except for birth that was true. At his feet I learned of Iomedae and of the other gods and of the crusades. He taught me about honor and virtue, and of how the hard way is often the right way. He taught me to fence and that doing the right thing is its own reward. For the next decade or more, he was my world. By this stage the now First Sword Obadiah Jenkins was getting rather old, he didn’t have the speed or the stamina that he once had. Yet he took each day as a blessing, and never once complained despite the rheumatic pain in his joints

I shall never forget the last time I saw him. I had just sworn my vows and been accepted into Iomedae’s service. He swelled up as if to bust with pride and there were tears in his eyes. I asked him what was wrong and he laughed, saying ‘Torrin nothing’s wrong, nothing at all! Enjoy your first patrol, remember what I’ve taught you. I know you’ll make us proud, Iomadae be with you.’ I saluted and set off with my comrades up the Path and then Kestrel River keeping our eyes out for bandits or people in need.

Upon my return to Vigil I was told the garrison commander, a paladin by the name of Roger Stern, wanted to see me. I must confess to being a little overawed by commander Stern, perhaps even a little frightened. I hadn’t spoken to the man in years and the last time had been a disciplinary action over a minor teenage indiscretion (I’d taken too much of a liking to the communion wine. Believe me I learnt my lesson!) I marched into his office wondering what I’d done wrong. He’d been speaking for several minutes before I realized that I hadn’t done anything, it was about Obadiah my Dad.

A day’s hard raid away near Castle Firrine there was a village. Normally an idyllic place, late one evening a drifter hammered at the door of the only inn, seeking refuge from a storm. Naturally the Innkeep took him in and paid for his charity with his and everyone else in the Inn’s life, for the drifter was a vampire. Survivors had run to Castle Firrine where Obadiah was posted. He along with a dozen volunteers rushed to the village, knowing that a vampire was likely beyond them, yet going anyway in the hopes of rescuing the rest of the village.

What ensued was a battle that stretched through the night, a game of cat and mouse where the vampire picked them off one by one. The only thing that saved them in the end was the dawn, which found the vampire cornered in the basement of burnt out remains of a church dedicated to Sarenrae. This respite gave the surviving villagers a chance to escape, but the crusaders knew that come the night the tables would be turned. Something had to be done, and Obadiah and two others volunteered to charge the vampire and drag it out into the light. That’s what they did although none of them lived to tell the tale.

I was stunned to hear this, it was as if my world had turned upside down. I remember Commander Stern’s words, he said ‘Son. I have an inkling of what you may be feeling. I too have lost loved ones in battle, it is natural to rail at the world but in the end it does no good. This is a test of faith, the first I fear of many you may face. Know this, Obadiah died honorably, his sacrifice saved the lives of many. His soul will be cherished forever by The Inheritor.’ He then handed me Obadiah’s sword, saying ‘He would have wanted you to have this, sadly his armor could not be saved’.

Torrin’s personal journal, dated six weeks before the campaign start:
So this is Rosslar’s Coffer, let's hope there’s no Orcs ruin our stay. The town’s not exactly big, but I can’t complain, the barracks are dry. Besides we’re needed, the border won’t patrol itself. I’m sure his place will seem like home in no time, besides there’s some crusader shrines I’d like to visit next time I get a day off.

Iomedae’s Paladin Code:

The paladins of Iomedae are just and strong, crusaders who live for the joy of righteous battle. Their mission is to right wrongs and eliminate evil at its root. They serve as examples to others, and their code demands they protect the weak and innocent by eliminating sources of oppression, rather than merely the symptoms. They may back down or withdraw from a fight if they are overmatched, but if their lives will buy time for others to escape, they must give them. Their tenets include the following affirmations.
*I will learn the weight of my sword. Without my heart to guide it, it is worthless—my strength is not in my sword, but in my heart. If I lose my sword, I have lost a tool. If I betray my heart, I have died.
*I will have faith in the Inheritor. I will channel her strength through my body. I will shine in her legion, and I will not tarnish her glory through base actions.
*I am the first into battle, and the last to leave it.
*I will not be taken prisoner by my free will. I will not surrender those under my command.
*I will never abandon a companion, though I will honor sacrifice freely given.
*I will guard the honor of my fellows, both in thought and deed, and I will have faith in them.
*When in doubt, I may force my enemies to surrender, but I am responsible for their lives.
*I will never refuse a challenge from an equal. I will give honor to worthy enemies, and contempt to the rest.
*I will suffer death before dishonor.
*I will be temperate in my actions and moderate in my behavior. I will strive to emulate Iomedae’s perfection.

Description and personality:
At six foot tall, with short dark hair, Torrin is the spitting image of a paladin. He has a serious yet humble demeanor and a body seemingly chiseled out of rock. He endeavors to always keep his armor and sword in immaculate condition and he proudly wears the insignia of The Inheritor.

His father’s sacrifice deeply affected him, and often there’s a hint of sadness in his eyes. Determined to make a difference, and live up to Obediah’s example, Torrin puts his all into everything he does.

Future build direction:
This really depends on what the rest of the party is like. If we lack healing then perhaps it makes sense to go down the oradin path, potentially picking up ultimate mercy (plus a bunch of status removal mercies too). Otherwise there's staples like step up, lunge, etc... Power attack is a good level 3 or 5 feat.

Well, it looks like I could do several more tables.....LOL, not.

Thanks to everyone who showed interest in this AP. May you find it again elsewhere if not chosen.

Super thanks to Robert Henry for taking up the daunting task of making a party by reducing 12 PCs to a selection of 2. Whew.

Cheers to you all!

Indeed. That is quite a flood of character concepts.
This is the Malik (Zwordsman). Level 1 version. All calc'd and finished. Although I may toy with some gear spending details until time closes as I ponder details.

As a refresher. I post morning and afternoons, prior to and after work. With some exceptions for waking up late or other oddities. I try not to post at work as I have noticed they aren't the best posts and tend to miss things as my note pad is at home not with me on my phone. So I'll hold true to that policy. Timezone is Western US generally.

I am not highly refined RP, but I am working towards that.

Malik personality Details:

Malik is a kid whose got some scars but is generall in a place he likes himself and the world. He needed time away from home given the whole affair that occured there. But old habits, and curiousity lead him to the situation here.
Malik enjoys reading, and cooking. he's not great at either but he does his best. he is quite apt to leave a soul shard to do work for him so he can knock off some time off. The shard is he and he is the shard. He calls it the Shade of his Shattered Soul, he thinks it sounds poetic. It runs mostly off his subconcious, sometimes stating desires he doesn't realize, or being something to argue off of for himself.
Because of how he views things after being shattered he has a bit of a harder time relying on others compared to relying on a shade that follows his desires.

Combat related:

Malik himself currently will use Acid Splash, or borrow a few stones for a sling. He carries a cestus and a kunai as a matter of course but he hasn't had much practice with them yet. Later levels he will use magic trick feat-which gives him the ability to use Aid Another at the range of Mage Hand** to give the front line either AC or to hit depending. Or if his Eidolon is the Sarissa reach user then probably that one. While also using a move action to add +2 competence bonus to hit for someone as well. In the future may invest in KnPlanes and the Treat Wounds conduit feat for self healing. Doing that would allow him to heal himself in battle fairly easily-which is useful when his HP is directly tied to healing the Eidolon too.

Eidolon can either be melee, or ranged at this stage. it only has simple weapons currently, next level it might gain martial. It can work towards either a Bow w/ compound for his high inante str. Or he can use a Sarissa to poke enemies and back up the front line as a middle line. Middle line being someone to stop the enemies if they bust through the front. Or to run to the back to front line an ambush. Lower AC at this level, but can be healed via Malik's hp pool.

EDIT ** A note. Magic Trick Mage Hand. Some of the options read like they're abilities given, some read that you need the spell active. The main issue is most of those are actions. Mage hand is a concetnration spell-so they require standard action to maintain. So two ways of reading this that I've seen.
One: The abiltiies that don't specifify casting the spell are just abilities you get from your mastery. I.e. aid another, dirty trick, and throw punch. They're normal actions for those you just gain the distance of the spell.
two: They're options that you can choose when you cast the spell or maintain the spell.
Either way is fine with me. Although the former is preferred as it fits the fluff far better of using his soul shards to affect the world.
I also think the text supports it. Take Throw Punch for example, "use mage hand to striike an opponent within spell's range" its the spells' range, not within range of the mage hand itself. Which has its own limited move speed and requires a move. IMO it makes more sense it exists for a moment that you attack with it in range but then is gone. Rather than the mage hand magically (no pun) teleporting from one side of the maximum range, to the opposite to hit someone, and then presumably going back to the starting point due to not actually having used movement. This applies to the aid another and the dirty trick too.
The ones that don't specify casting the spell just are cleaner if they're abilities that work under the normal action's action economy. Aid Another as a standard, Dirty trick is a standard. Melee Attack is an attack action. The other stuff specifies casting the spell or it enhances an action the spell already can take.

Additionally that means throw punch being a standard melee option works with things cleaner than it being an option. It means it can work with BAB iteratives, feats that add damage, etc. It isn't a touch attach. It will always deal D3 as its base dice, so there aren't any size explits to worry about.
It fits pretty well with his spirit shards and would be fantsatic fluff for that. And will have a heck of a fun time writing descriptions for it.

That sort of thing can be discussed if I end up being chosen. As that 'll be a GM chat. I'd love if force punch worked like any other melee attack though. As that would be my one stop combat choice, aid anothers and in general attacks. Flinging shards of the soul that hurt like glass shards.

Either way have fun follks~ I think Im likely not the best character fit given the spread of choices. But I didn't really want to build directly for the AP and instead just wanted to bring to life one of my characters I've had in the back burner.
So no worries if I don't make a cut. just be sure to enjoy!

I'll take the average wealth.

Now I look at my submission in the morning I'd probably change Torrins archetype to Undead Scourge if selected. I'd forgotten there was two anti undead archetypes.

Ok, not ready to call it yet, waiting on a few PM’s.

@Robert Henry - nope! I am not applying for this game. I just stopped by to snag an interested GM for our stalled Tyrant's Grasp game, and Michael_Hopkins graciously offered to step in.

@Robert Henry: Yeah, I started years ago was the rookiest of rookies, and look at me now!

I'm still a rookie! XD

I hope the times we've crossed paths you regard as good times.

Finished my equipment. Still working on that backstory
