After returning to the library, Niu darts across before the wasps get too angry and opens the southern door.


The wasps remain in the nest but begin to show movement.


This study has several tall wingback chairs, a small writing desk, and a peculiar iron statue of nine bearded snails climbing a rocky waterfall. One sliding double door leads north, while another leads east, and a wide glass door opens onto a small semicircular balcony to the south.

The writing desk contains a few sheets of blank paper and writing implements. A gaudy fire opal sits on the writing desk as a paperweight. There are no markings on the statue.

Looking back over his shoulder through the library, Niu wonders what everyone else is doing.

"I notice that there are nine snails on this statue. I wonder if this has something to do with the puzzle we are solving.

Regardless, other than this opal, there doesn't seem to be anything worthwhile here. It's time to check out this next door."

A cabinet with a large, shattered terrarium occupies the north wall of this room. The south wall has a spiral staircase leading upward with a thick purple curtain that obscures the space beneath the stairs. A sliding double door exits to the west.

Donovan looks again at the wasps, remembering the feel of them crawling and biting at him under his armor, he shudders and turns to follow the rest of his friends.

He then stabs out at the creature from distance.

Etgar knows this to be an assassin bug. They can deliver their poison through bites, claws, and spitting a stream of it. The are immune to mind affecting effects. He successfully spears it.
